When you interact with the control terminal, you call in an Extraction Crate. The crate takes roughly 30 seconds to arrive. When it lands, you have a short window — a matter of seconds — to interact with it and deposit any Sprites in your inventory. Once it seals and lifts off, those Sprites are permanently added to your collection and you receive Sprite Dust as a reward.

The catch: activating a terminal immediately broadcasts your position to every squad on the map. Your icon turns red and an audio alert fires. Anyone in range knows exactly where you are and what you’re doing. The 30-second wait is the most dangerous window in any extraction-focused match.

When Do Extraction Sites Unlock in Fortnite Runners?

Extraction Sites are locked at the start of every match. They become active after the first storm circle closes. You cannot use them during the opening drop phase, even if you land directly on top of one.

This means your early match should focus on finding a Sprite, looting, and building your loadout — not racing to the nearest site. Once the first circle forms and the sites unlock, the map shows all available sites as white icons. Any site already used by another squad in that match will appear occupied. Located south of the Lifty Lodge ski resort in the northwest snow biome. The site sits near the standalone launch pad on the slope south of the main lodge buildings. Lifty Lodge itself has 2 Sprite Chests, making this a natural combination — loot the lodge, level your Sprite with chests, then extract at the site on the slope below.

Traffic here is moderate. The northwest is a less-contested drop zone than the central and southern map, but the site’s proximity to the launch pad makes it a fast target for squads rotating from The Bus Stop island to the east.

The Battlewoods Extraction Site — North-Central

Located southeast of The Battlewoods POI. This site sits near one of the Rare Vault locations in the same area, making it a useful stop on a combined vault-extraction run. The Battlewoods has good chest density, including multiple Sprite Chest spawns around the Battlewoods sign landmark.

Lower overall traffic than central POIs. The site is well-positioned for players who prefer farming the northeast corridor before rotating inward with a Sprite already extracted and Sprite Dust in hand.

Frosted Flats Extraction Site — North

Near Frosted Flats, which sits in the northern part of the Shattered Coast. Frosted Flats contains 2 open Sprite Chests plus the Epic Sprite Vault underground, which holds 3 guaranteed Sprite Chests behind an Epic Vault Keycard. The Extraction Site near Frosted Flats is the natural exit point after clearing the vault.

Traffic varies. The Epic Vault draws dedicated players willing to fight for a keycard, but the Extraction Site itself is on the open POI level rather than inside the vault. If you clear the vault early and extract fast, you can be done before other squads arrive.

Sinister Strip Extraction Site — Central

Near Sinister Strip at the center of the Shattered Coast. This is the highest-traffic Extraction Site on the map. Sinister Strip holds the Mythic Limitless Seven Sliders, an underground prison cell, the Epic Sprite Vault beneath The Shape, and multiple boss-tier enemies. It is one of the most contested drops every match.

The Extraction Site here is dangerous because of the constant player density at Sinister Strip throughout the match. Only use this site if you have a strong loadout, squad support, or a clear read that nearby players have already rotated away. If you’re solo or under-equipped, avoid extracting here and route to a quieter site instead.

Calamari Canyon Extraction Site — West

Near Calamari Canyon on the west side of the Shattered Coast. Calamari Canyon has 3 Sprite Chest spawns and the WhaleTales building vault nearby. The Extraction Site in this area gives players who loot the canyon a clean exit point without needing to rotate far.

Medium traffic. The west coast is less central than Sinister Strip but more active than the northwest. Watch for squads rotating in from Heatwave Harbor to the south.

Cluster Coast Extraction Site — East

Near Cluster Coast on the east side of the island. Cluster Coast is the giant rubber duck building POI — a distinctive landmark that draws players for its loot density and the secret duck vault. The Extraction Site nearby is a natural endpoint for runs that start at the duck POI.

The Extraction Site here can be contested due to Cluster Coast’s popularity, but the east side of the island has fewer rotational paths than the center, making ambushes slightly less frequent once you reach the site itself.

Heatwave Harbor Extraction Site — Southwest

Near Heatwave Harbor on the southwest coast. Heatwave Harbor contains 3 Sprite Chests, the secret aquarium, and the Shady Eyes building vault. The Extraction Site is a short run from the main harbor POI.

Medium-high traffic. Heatwave Harbor is a popular drop for players targeting the Mythic Striker Pump Shotgun from the Duck Race minigame and the Shady Eyes vault. Expect other squads nearby throughout early and mid-game. The site is usable but requires awareness of who else is working the harbor.

Sunken Shores Extraction Site — South

Near Sunken Shores and the gas station northeast of the main Sunken Shores POI. Sunken Shores sits along the southern coast of the Shattered Coast and is one of the quieter areas on the map. The Wishing Fountain at Sunken Shores is a notable landmark nearby.

This site is one of the lower-risk Extraction Sites on the map. The southern coastal area tends to see less traffic than the central POIs, and the gas station vault nearby provides a quiet loot source before extraction. Good choice for solo players and anyone trying to bank a rare Sprite without a fight.

Shaken Sanctuary Extraction Site — Southeast

Near Shaken Sanctuary at the southeast section of the Shattered Coast. Shaken Sanctuary has 3 Sprite Chest spawns and a Rare Vault in the southeast corner of the area. This zone frequently sits near or inside the early storm circles given its southeastern position, which makes it a common late-game destination.

Because Shaken Sanctuary often ends up inside the circle, the Extraction Site here can be useful late in a match when you need to extract quickly before the storm closes in. However, it also means this site is active deep into games when player counts are still high. Approach with caution and have a Portable Extractor as backup if the site is occupied or too contested.

Golden Grove Extraction Site — East-Central

Near Golden Grove in the east-central section of the Shattered Coast. Golden Grove is a medium-density loot zone that doesn’t draw the same heavy traffic as Sinister Strip or Cluster Coast. The Extraction Site here is one of the more overlooked options on the map.

Low-to-medium traffic. Golden Grove is a solid intermediate stop between the northeastern POIs and the central zones. If you’re rotating from Wonkeeland inward and need to extract before pushing Sinister Strip, the Golden Grove site is a clean option.

How to Use an Extraction Site in Fortnite Runners

Here is the full step-by-step process for a successful extraction at any site:

Find a Sprite — from a Sprite Chest, regular chest, floor loot, or by eliminating a player. Equip it immediately. Only equipped Sprites earn Mastery Points.
Wait for the first storm circle — Extraction Sites unlock after the first circle closes. Don’t try to rush them at the start of a match.
Locate an unoccupied site — open your minimap and look for white beacon icons. Occupied sites appear differently. Choose one near your current position.

Extraction Site Tips and Common Mistakes

Never activate a site without cover nearby. The 30-second window is the most exposed you’ll ever be in a match. Build, use natural terrain, or abort if the area isn’t clear.
Each site is one-use per match. If another squad already used a site, it shows as occupied. Plan a backup site before you commit to a looting route.
Use a Portable Extractor for rare Sprites. A Galaxy Sprite, Zero Point Sprite, or any first-time Legendary or Mythic should be extracted with a Portable Extractor, not at a public site. The 5-second silent extraction is far safer than 30 seconds on an open platform.
Winning the match extracts everything. If you’re in the final circle with a Sprite, there’s no need to risk a site visit. Get the Victory Royale and all your Sprites bank automatically.
Check the site first, activate second. A common mistake is walking up to the terminal immediately. Always check the surrounding area for waiting squads before you trigger the 30-second alert countdown.
Deposit multiple Sprites at once. You can drop all carried Sprites into a single Extraction Crate. Don’t make multiple site visits when one deposit handles everything.
