Sprite Mastery is a permanent account milestone. When you extract a Sprite at its maximum Level 5, the game marks it as Mastered. That status never resets — even if the Sprite drops back to Level 1 after being re-summoned or lost, the Mastery stays permanently on your account.
Mastery is not an in-match buff. It doesn’t change what the Sprite does during a match. It is a collection milestone that unlocks progression rewards in the Sprites tab of the lobby and cosmetic options for The Guardian skin.
You can view your Mastery progress under the Sprite Mastery Rewards tab in the lobby’s Sprites screen. Each new Mastery you earn advances the track and pays out the next reward.
How to Master a Sprite in Fortnite — Step by Step
- Find a Sprite during a match from a Sprite Chest, regular chest, floor loot, or by eliminating a player carrying one. Use the Sprite Chest locations guide to find them fast.
- Equip the Sprite on your back. Only an equipped Sprite earns Mastery Points. A Sprite sitting in your inventory slot gains zero XP no matter what you do.
- Earn Mastery Points through the three sources — opening containers, eliminating opponents, and extracting duplicate Sprites.
- Reach Level 5. You don’t need to do this in a single match. Extract at Level 3 to save progress, then continue leveling in the next game.
- Once at Level 5, head to an Extraction Site or use a Portable Extractor to bank it.
- The Sprite is now Mastered. A crown appears on its icon in the lobby. The Mastery track advances and your reward unlocks.
If you die before extracting a Level 5 Sprite, the Sprite resets to Level 1. Your Mastery is not lost if you had already Mastered that Sprite before — but if this is your first time reaching Level 5 on it, that progress is gone and you start the climb again.
How Sprites Level Up — Mastery Points Explained
Sprites level up by earning Mastery Points (MP) while equipped on your back. There are three sources:
- Opening containers — 75 MP per chest, ammo box, Sprite Chest, food box, or fishing barrel. This is the safest and most consistent source. It also builds your loadout at the same time.
- Eliminations — 200 MP per down or elimination while the Sprite is equipped. Higher reward per action, but carries the risk of dying mid-fight and losing the Sprite.
- Extracting duplicate Sprites — 200 MP each time you extract a Sprite you already own at the Extraction Site. Running multiple extraction runs in one match adds up fast.

Fastest Way to Master Sprites in Fortnite Runners
Use the Teleporter Tunnel Method
The most efficient farming method for containers is the teleporter tunnel network on the Shattered Coast. There are 5 underground teleporter tunnels across the map, each packed with chests, ammo boxes, and containers throughout the tunnel route.
The loop works like this: enter a tunnel, open every container inside for 75 MP each, use the teleporter at the end to jump to the next tunnel, repeat. You can chain tunnels for most of a match without ever engaging in a fight. Combined with the sheer volume of containers per tunnel, this method pushes a Sprite toward Level 5 faster than any other low-risk approach.
The tunnels also contain Unstable Element items that unlock secret vaults with Rare Chests inside — each Rare Chest you open still counts as a container for 75 MP. Players can also find enemies inside the tunnels, which adds 200 MP per elimination if you choose to engage.
Use the Two-Match Strategy
Don’t try to hit Level 5 in one sitting. The two-match approach is safer and more reliable:
- Match 1 — Land somewhere with strong chest density, not a hot drop. Loot aggressively, take safe fights, and push the Sprite to Level 3. Extract at Level 3 to bank progress and earn Sprite Dust.
- Match 2 — Re-summon the Sprite at Level 3 using Sprite Dust. Push from Level 3 to Level 5. Extract immediately at Level 5 to secure Mastery before anything can go wrong.
This removes the risk of losing a half-leveled Sprite to a bad late-game situation. Banking at Level 3 guarantees you never start from zero again on that Sprite.
Play on Mastery Monday
Every Monday at 9 AM ET, Epic activates the Mastery Monday event, which runs for 24 hours. During this window:
- All Mastery Points earned are doubled — 150 MP per container instead of 75, 400 MP per elimination instead of 200.
- Sprite Dust earnings also run at a 2x multiplier, refilling your reserves faster.
- Legendary and Mythic Sprite spawn rates are boosted in Sprite Chests, giving you better odds on Zero Point Sprites and other rare finds.

Extract Often — Even If You Don’t Need To
Every extraction earns Sprite Dust and counts toward the Assemble the Guardian quest line, which unlocks additional Guardian skin color variants based on total extractions across the season. Extract every Sprite you find, even ones already in your collection. The Sprite Dust accumulates and the Guardian quest progress never stops.
The Dream Sprite Exception — Read This Before You Start
The Dream Sprite works differently from every other Sprite in the Mastery system. At each level-up, it rewards you with a random item. When it hits Level 5, it automatically explodes into a fountain of Legendary loot and is forcefully extracted — you don’t choose when to extract it.
This means the Dream Sprite handles its own Mastery automatically. You cannot hold a Level 5 Dream Sprite and wait for the perfect extraction moment. Once it hits max level, it extracts itself. Plan around this — don’t bring a Dream Sprite into a match if you need to be in a specific location for extraction, because the forced extract can happen mid-fight.
The loot explosion at Level 5 is a strong mid-match power spike, so there’s a genuine upside. Just don’t be surprised when the Sprite leaves your back on its own.
All Sprite Mastery Rewards in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3
Mastery rewards come from two places: the Sprite Mastery track (milestone rewards for hitting specific numbers of Masteries) and individual Sprite Mastery (rewards tied to each specific Sprite you master).
Individual Sprite Mastery Rewards

The Mastery track pays out additional rewards at specific milestone counts of total Masteries earned:
- 2 Sprites Mastered — 4 Portable Extractors added to your account.
- 6 Sprites Mastered — 4 more Portable Extractors.
- Cosmetic items — including the Extraction Frame Back Bling at specific milestones.
- Additional Sprite Dust and XP payouts at further milestone points on the track.

Sprite Mastery and the Guardian Skin — How It Works
The Guardian is the signature Battle Pass outfit for Chapter 7 Season 3 — a customizable Sprite-piloted mech. Its additional styles are locked entirely behind Sprite Mastery.
There are two separate unlock systems tied to The Guardian:
- Sprite Mastery styles — Each individual Sprite you Master adds that Sprite’s specific edit style to the Guardian skin. Mastering the Fire Sprite gives the Guardian a Fire Sprite companion style. Mastering the Zero Point Sprite gives it a Zero Point style. These are only available through Mastering that specific Sprite.
- Assemble the Guardian quest line — Visible in your Quests menu. Progress is based on your total extractions across the season, not Masteries specifically. The more Sprites you extract of any type, the more color variants and additional styles unlock on the Guardian. These are separate from the Mastery-specific styles above.
If you want the full Guardian skin with all styles and colorways, you need both systems: Master as many Sprites as possible AND extract every Sprite you find, even ones you already own.
What Happens If You Lose a Mastered Sprite?
If you die in a match while carrying a Mastered Sprite, the Sprite drops to the ground for another player to steal. The Sprite itself resets to Level 1. Your Mastery status is permanent — it does not reset. But the Sprite will be at Level 1 next time you equip it.
To get that Sprite back in your inventory, you need to spend Sprite Dust to summon it from your collection before the next match. Which Sprites Should You Master First?
Focus on Sprites that are easiest to find, safest to level, and most useful to run in your loadout. Here is a practical priority order for 2026:
- Fire Sprite (Rare) — easiest to find, lowest summon cost (100 Dust), useful in fights. Best first Mastery target.
- Water Sprite (Rare) and Earth Sprite (Rare) — also low cost and easy to find. Complete the Rare trio first for the 2-Sprite Extractor reward.
- Demon Sprite (Epic) — high value for aggressive players. Siphons health and shield on eliminations, meaning it naturally levels fast if you’re taking fights.
- Ghost Sprite (Epic) — cloak on reload is strong for survival. Good second Epic to push.
- Dream Sprite (Legendary) — self-extracts at Level 5, so no manual extraction required. Easy Mastery but requires you to be in a safe spot when it pops.

Sprite Mastery Tips and Common Mistakes
- Always equip your Sprite on your back. An inventory Sprite earns zero MP no matter how much you loot or how many eliminations you get.
- Don’t force Level 5 in one match. Extract at Level 3 and finish in the next game. Safer and more consistent.
- Never use a Portable Extractor on a Rare Sprite you already own unless you’re specifically pushing for a Mastery. Save Extractors for Gold, Gummy, and Galaxy variants, or rare base Sprites you’re Mastering for the first time.
- Schedule grind sessions for Mastery Monday. Doubled MP makes it the most efficient day of the week by a significant margin.
- Extract every Sprite you find, even duplicates. Each extraction builds Sprite Dust and advances the Assemble the Guardian quest, regardless of whether you’re actively working on that Sprite’s Mastery.
