All Gizmos in Fortnite Runners: Portable Extractor, Lucky Locator & Booster

Fortnite Runners Gizmos explained — Portable Extractor, Lucky Locator, and Extraction Site Booster. How each works, how to get more, and when to use them.

  • There are three Extraction Gizmos in Fortnite Runners: Portable Extractor, Lucky Locator, and Extraction Site Booster.
  • The Portable Extractor lets you extract a Sprite from anywhere on the map in 5 seconds — no Extraction Site needed.
  • The Lucky Locator tracks down a buried chest guaranteed to hold a Sprite you haven’t collected yet.
  • The Extraction Site Booster spawns a crate that boosts any Sprite extracted at that site — but it draws enemy attention.
  • Gizmos live in your pickaxe slot, persist between matches all season, and cannot be dropped or lost on death.
  • Buy one Portable Extractor per day for 2,000 Sprite Dust at any Extraction Site terminal (resets 9 AM ET).
  • Completing your 4th daily quest in a single day rewards a free Portable Extractor on top of the usual XP.

Fortnite Runners Gizmos are consumable tools built around the Sprite extraction system introduced in Chapter 7 Season 3. They don’t sit in your normal inventory. Instead, they occupy the pickaxe slot — the same slot used by items like the Golden Fireworks from Community Day. You equip them when you need them, they trigger on use, and they’re consumed. Every Gizmo you earn carries over between matches and stays in your account until the season ends.

There are three Gizmos in total. Here is what each one does and how to make the most of all of them.

What Are Extraction Gizmos in Fortnite Runners?

Extraction Gizmos are the tools Epic created to give players more control over the Sprite banking process. The normal method requires you to carry a Sprite across the map to a fixed Extraction Site and survive a timer while other players can attack you. Gizmos change that equation.

They are non-tradable. You cannot hand them to a squadmate or drop them on the floor. If you’re eliminated, you don’t lose them — they persist on your account. This makes them one of the safest items to stockpile in the season.

Your full Gizmo stash expires when Chapter 7 Season 3 ends, so don’t sit on them.

Portable Extractor — How It Works in Fortnite Runners

The Portable Extractor is the most important Gizmo in Fortnite Runners. It creates a personal extraction point wherever you’re standing, letting you bank a Sprite without ever going near a public Extraction Site.

This matters because the moment another player sees you with a rare Sprite — especially a Galaxy Sprite or a Zero Point Sprite — you become a target. Walking to a public Extraction Site is asking to be ambushed. The Portable Extractor removes that risk entirely.

How to Use the Portable Extractor (All Platforms)

  • Find and equip a Sprite during your match.
  • Hold Triangle (PS5) / Y (Xbox) to equip the Portable Extractor into your pickaxe slot.
  • Make sure the Sprite you want to extract is actively equipped on your character.
  • Hold R2 (PS5) / RT (Xbox) / left-click and hold (PC) for 5 seconds.
  • Build cover around yourself before starting the channel — you are vulnerable during the 5 seconds.
  • Confirm the extraction completes and the Sprite is banked to your collection.

The Portable Extractor only works on the Sprite you are currently carrying and have equipped. You cannot use it to extract a Sprite sitting on the ground. Pick it up first, make sure it’s active, then channel.

When Should You Use a Portable Extractor?

Don’t waste Portable Extractors on common Sprites. Earth, Water, and Fire Sprites are Rare-tier and easy to find again. Save your Extractors for:

  • Any Epic, Legendary, or Mythic Sprite you haven’t yet added to your collection.
  • Any Galaxy, Gold, or Gummy variant regardless of base rarity.
  • Situations where you’re being hunted and cannot safely reach an Extraction Site.
  • Fast trades — if you’re trading Sprites and need to quickly secure a received Sprite before the match ends.

Portable Extractors stack with no hard cap. You can build up a large reserve if you’re disciplined with daily purchases and Mastery rewards.

How to Get More Portable Extractors in Fortnite

There are four ways to get Portable Extractors in Chapter 7 Season 3:

  • Sprite Dust Services terminal — Buy one per day for 2,000 Sprite Dust at any Extraction Site. Resets at 9 AM ET daily. Check the Sprite Dust guide if you need help earning Dust faster.
  • Sprite Mastery track — Extract a Sprite at Max Level 5 to push your Mastery progress. The track rewards Gizmos at milestone points. Reaching Mastery on 2 and then 6 different Sprites unlocks Extractors as rewards.
  • Quest rewards — Specific quests throughout the season hand out Portable Extractors. Check your quest log regularly. The Sprite Safari quests are one of the better sources.
  • 4th daily quest bonus — Completing four daily quests in a single day gives you a free Portable Extractor on top of the normal XP reward. This one is easy to miss.

Use Mastery Monday events to level Sprites faster and unlock Mastery rewards at an accelerated pace — Sprite Dust earnings run at 2x during those windows.

Lucky Locator
Lucky Locator

Lucky Locator — How It Works in Fortnite Runners

The Lucky Locator is the second Extraction Gizmo. It tracks down a buried chest that is guaranteed to contain a Sprite you have not yet collected. This is a targeted tool for completing your full Sprite collection.

When you use a Lucky Locator, it points you toward a buried Sprite chest on the current map. That chest is guaranteed to hold something new for your collection — not a duplicate. This makes it significantly more efficient than opening random Sprite Chests and hoping for the right drop.

The Lucky Locator doesn’t increase the rarity of what you find — it just ensures the chest contains a Sprite variant you’re missing. If you need a rare Sprite you haven’t collected yet, this is the most direct path to it outside of the RNG loot pool.

Best Time to Use a Lucky Locator

  • When your collection is nearly complete and you’re hunting one or two specific Sprites.
  • When you want to avoid the RNG of normal Sprite Chests for a guaranteed-new find.
  • Pair with a Portable Extractor in the same match — locate and immediately extract safely.

The Lucky Locator is earned through Bonus Goals, Sprite Mastery milestones, and quest rewards. It’s rarer than the Portable Extractor, so save it for targeted hunts rather than casual matches.

Extraction Site Booster — How It Works in Fortnite Runners

The Extraction Site Booster is the third Gizmo. It calls in a special Extraction Crate that boosts any Sprite extracted within its zone. Based on Epic’s description, it speeds up the leveling of Sprites extracted at that site, which helps push Sprites toward Max Level faster.

There is a major trade-off. Using the Extraction Site Booster draws other players’ attention. Epic’s own patch notes flag this directly. The boosted crate is visible to nearby squads, and anyone who wants those rewards — or wants to steal your Sprite — will come running.

How to Use the Extraction Site Booster Safely

  • Only activate it when you have squad backup holding the perimeter.
  • Use it in a match where the circle has already thinned out the player count.
  • Don’t use it while carrying a rare Sprite you haven’t yet secured — get that Sprite out with a Portable Extractor first, then boost a second Sprite at the site.
  • Treat the incoming traffic as a farm opportunity if you’re playing aggressively.

The Booster is best for squads who want to level Sprites quickly and are confident fighting off anyone who shows up. Solo players should use it with extreme caution.

Fortnite Runners Gizmos — Full Comparison

  • Portable Extractor — Extract any equipped Sprite from anywhere. 5-second channel. Best daily-use tool. 2,000 Sprite Dust per day at the terminal.
  • Lucky Locator — Finds a buried chest with a guaranteed new Sprite for your collection. Best for targeted hunting near the end of the season.
  • Extraction Site Booster — Speeds up Sprite leveling at an Extraction Site. Draws enemies. Best for coordinated squads.

All three Gizmos start in your pickaxe slot when you drop from the Battle Bus. They persist all season. They expire when the season ends.

Gizmos and the Sprite Mastery System

Gizmos and Sprite leveling are linked. The fastest way to earn Gizmos is to level Sprites to Max Level 5 and extract them to push your Mastery track. The Mastery track rewards Gizmos at milestone checkpoints — specifically at 2 and 6 Sprites Mastered.

Sprites level up through three activities while they’re in your inventory: getting eliminations, opening chests, and general match play. The higher the Sprite’s level when you extract it, the better the Sprite Dust payout — and more Dust means more daily Portable Extractor purchases.

Running this loop efficiently is what separates players with a full Gizmo stock from players who are always running dry. For a full breakdown of where to find Sprites to level up, use the best loot path for Sprites guide.

Tips for Using Gizmos in Fortnite Runners

  • Check the Extraction Site terminal early every match. Even if you don’t have enough Dust yet, knowing where the terminal is saves time if you find a rare Sprite later.
  • Never use a Portable Extractor on a Rare Sprite you already own. If it’s already in your collection, losing it during a match doesn’t matter — you can re-summon it with Sprite Dust.
  • Stack your Portable Extractor reserve during quieter weeks so you’re loaded up before major events like Mastery Monday or Galaxy Hour.
  • Pair a Lucky Locator with an Extraction Site Booster in the same match only if you have squad cover. The Locator finds the Sprite; the Booster levels it fast at extraction.
  • Check your daily quest log every day. Completing four quests in one session gives you a free Extractor — this adds up over a full season.

If you’re still building your collection from scratch, start with the best starter Sprite guide before spending Gizmos on higher-rarity hunts. And if you’ve lost a Sprite mid-match, check the guide on how to recover lost Sprites before it’s gone for good.
