Archer
EMIYA · The Hero of Justice · Path of The Hunt
S+ TIER DPS ⚡ Quantum · Free 5-StarI am the bone of my sword — Circuit Connection Unleashed
Archer (EMIYA) is a 5-star Quantum Hunt DPS from the landmark Fate/stay night × Honkai: Star Rail collaboration, released in Version 3.4. He arrives completely free for all players alongside Saber, making him one of the most generous limited offerings in the game’s history. His playstyle is unlike any other Hunt character: rather than single focused strikes, he chains multiple Skills within a single turn through his signature “Circuit Connection” mechanic—becoming progressively deadlier with each consecutive sword.
When Archer uses his Skill (Caladbolg II: Fake Spiral Sword), he enters Circuit Connection state. His turn does not end. He can continue using Skills back-to-back, with each subsequent use dealing +100% increased DMG (stackable up to 2 times) until he exhausts all available Skill Points or has used his Skill 5 times total. A single Archer turn can consume up to 5–7 Skill Points and chain together an absolutely devastating sequence of Quantum hits totaling potentially 1,800%+ of his ATK in one go.
His Talent (Guardian) launches a Follow-Up Attack by consuming Charges—which are generated by his Ultimate and his A4 Trace. His Ultimate (Unlimited Blade Works) deals Quantum DMG, reduces the target’s Quantum RES by 20%, implants Quantum Weakness, and grants him Charges for Follow-Up Attacks. His A2 Trace raises the entire team’s Skill Point cap by 2 (to 7, or 9 with Sparkle), enabling the deeper SP pools his Chain Skill demands. His A6 Trace grants +120% CRIT DMG for 1 turn whenever allies gain Skill Points and there are 4+ SP available—essentially a massive burst window buff timed to Sparkle’s SP refills or SP-positive supports’ actions.
The cost of all this firepower is extreme SP dependency—Archer is the most SP-negative character in HSR. He needs dedicated SP-battery supports to function at peak performance, and his best teams are specifically constructed around generating and hoarding Skill Points for his explosive turns. When properly supported, he delivers single-target burst damage that rivals and frequently surpasses premium limited DPS options.
Best Light Cones
The Hell Where Ideals Burn
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Signature · BIS · FreeBest-in-Slot — and obtainable for free. Grants +16% CRIT Rate and, when the Skill Point cap of allies is 6 or higher (guaranteed by Archer’s own A2 Trace), increases ATK by 40% immediately at battle start. After each Skill use, grants an additional +10% ATK stacking up to 4 times (total +40% extra ATK). This means during a full 5-Skill Chain, Archer builds to +80% total ATK bonus from this Light Cone alone. Perfectly tailored for his Circuit Connection loop—every mechanic of this cone rewards aggressive Skill chaining. Claim via the Fate collaboration event before it expires.
Baptism of Pure Thought
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Strong AltBest non-signature 5-star option. Provides CRIT DMG and DEF-ignore debuff on the target after skill attacks, stacking over multiple Skill uses. Archer’s multi-hit Skill chain naturally stacks this debuff to maximum quickly, amplifying damage on subsequent hits. A competitive alternative if you own this from another Hunt banner. Comparable to the signature in CRIT-heavy compositions.
Worrisome, Blissful
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Viable AltFeixiao’s signature — works well here too. Provides CRIT Rate and a stacking CRIT DMG buff triggered by Follow-Up Attacks. Archer’s Talent Follow-Up Attacks proc this buff during and after his Circuit Connection sequences. Requires slightly more investment to stack, but delivers strong performance if already owned.
Cruising in the Stellar Sea
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ F2P · Simulated UniverseBest F2P 5-star option — fully free. Obtainable (and upgradeable to S5) from the Simulated Universe shop. Grants CRIT Rate and a conditional ATK% boost when defeating enemies or when hitting enemies with 50% HP or less. Archer’s consistent burst damage activates the execute condition reliably. A remarkable free option that performs admirably even at S1, and becomes excellent at S5.
In the Night
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Speed-Build AltNiche option for high-SPD builds. Provides CRIT Rate and scales Skill and Ultimate DMG based on wearer’s SPD (up to a cap). Pairs specifically with the Firmament Frontline: Glamoth Planar set when Archer reaches 160 SPD via substats. Requires significant speed investment but rewards it with strong Skill amplification. Only viable if you can consistently hit the 160 SPD threshold.
See You at the End
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hunt 4-StarSolid F2P 4-star alternative from the standard or Hunt banner pool. Provides ATK% and CRIT Rate with uptime-friendly conditions. Not as explosive as the signature but a functional budget bridge. Use at S3–S5 for competitive performance before obtaining a 5-star option.
🏹 Light Cone Priority
The Hell Where Ideals Burn is free — get it first. This should be every player’s starting Light Cone for Archer. The +80% ATK scaling across a full Chain Skill turn is extraordinary and purpose-built for his kit. If you already claimed it: prioritize superimposing Cruising in the Stellar Sea from the SU shop as your secondary. Baptism of Pure Thought and Worrisome, Blissful are excellent if you own them from Feixiao or other Hunt banners—but don’t pull specifically for them when the signature is free.
Best Relics & Ornaments
🥇 4-Piece: Genius of Brilliant Stars (BiS)
The uncontested Best-in-Slot relic for Archer. The constant 10% Quantum DMG bonus is always active, and the DEF ignore kicks in universally since Archer’s own Ultimate implants Quantum Weakness on enemies for 2 turns. In endgame content where most challenging enemies are Quantum-weak, this set provides near-permanent 20% DEF ignore—a multiplicative damage increase that stacks with Silver Wolf’s DEF shred for potentially 57–77% total DEF reduction. Farm this from the Cavern of Corrosion.
🥈 4-Piece: Scholar Lost in Erudition (Alt)
An excellent alternative, particularly if Archer’s Circuit Connection Skills consume his Ultimate early in his Chain Skill sequence. The 8% CRIT Rate from the 2-piece reduces stat pressure, and the flat 20% Skill DMG amplifier applies to every hit in the chain. The post-Ultimate +25% Skill bonus rewards a rotation of Ultimate → Chain Skills. Competes closely with Genius of Brilliant Stars and is the better choice when enemies are NOT Quantum-weak.
🥉 4-Piece: Wavestrider Captain (ATK Alt)
An ATK-stacking alternative for players who prefer maximizing raw attack scaling over Quantum-specific bonuses. The CRIT DMG and ATK bonuses are substantial on paper, but this set loses to Genius of Brilliant Stars in most scenarios due to the DEF-ignore advantage. Use if you have exceptional substats on these pieces and cannot farm Genius efficiently.

📊 Target Stats
| Slot | Main Stat | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Head | HP (fixed) | Focus on CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG substats |
| Hands | ATK (fixed) | ATK% and CRIT substats ideal |
| Body | CRIT Rate % | Preferred — every Skill hit must crit |
| Boots | ATK % | SPD boots only for Glamoth build (160 SPD) |
| Sphere | Quantum DMG % | ATK% acceptable if substats are superior |
| Rope | ATK % | ATK% over Energy Regen — Archer doesn’t rely on fast Ult cycling |
⚠️ Critical Stat Note: Keep SPD Low
Unlike most DPS characters, Archer wants to keep his SPD at base (~105). His Circuit Connection mechanic means he consumes all SP on his turn. If he acts too quickly relative to his supports, they won’t have time to regenerate SP before his next turn — leaving him with nothing to chain. Let supports act between his turns to bank SP. SPD boots are only for the dedicated Glamoth 160-SPD build. For all other builds: ATK boots always.
Sub-stat priority: CRIT Rate (to ~100%) → CRIT DMG → ATK% → SPD (only up to team-tuned breakpoints). Since Archer’s A6 grants +120% CRIT DMG when allies gain SP and 4+ SP are available, always prioritize reaching near-100% CRIT Rate first to guarantee every chain Skill crits.
Trace Priority
- Skill (Caladbolg II: Fake Spiral Sword) — The absolute core of Archer’s kit. Every level raises the damage multiplier of each Skill hit within the Circuit Connection chain. Since he can fire up to 5 Skills in a single turn, Skill level multiplies into every single one. Max this first and immediately.
- Ultimate (Unlimited Blade Works) — Deals substantial Quantum DMG, implants Quantum Weakness (enabling Genius of Brilliant Stars 4-piece full DEF-ignore), reduces Quantum RES by 20%, and grants Charges for Follow-Up Attacks. High multipliers at max level and the Quantum Weakness application is essential for BiS relic effectiveness.
- Talent (Guardian) — Governs the damage of Follow-Up Attacks triggered by Charges. Archer gains Charges from his Ultimate and his A4 Trace (starting with 1 Charge at battle start). Max talent enables powerful Follow-Up Attacks between turns that add consistent off-turn damage.
- Basic ATK (Kanshou and Bakuya) — Lowest priority. In optimal gameplay, Archer should never use his Basic ATK. His Circuit Connection rotation demands Skills exclusively. Level only if you have leftover materials after maxing the above three.
⚡ Key Bonus Abilities (Traces)
A2 — Projection Magecraft: While Archer is on the field, the entire team’s Skill Point cap increases by 2 (from 5 to 7, or up to 9 with Sparkle). This is not just a quality-of-life improvement — it’s fundamental to his playstyle. The expanded cap is what allows Archer to realistically chain 5 Skills in a single turn and what lets Sparkle’s Ultimate refill a full 6 SP without wasting any.
A4 — Rho Aias: Archer enters battle with 1 Charge, allowing him to immediately trigger a Follow-Up Attack from his Talent on the very first turn without needing his Ultimate first. Enables a strong opening burst and smooth early rotations.
A6 — Reality Marble: When allies gain Skill Points and there are currently 4 or more SP available, Archer’s CRIT DMG increases by 120% for 1 turn. This enormous CRIT DMG buff is precisely timed to activate right before Archer burns through all the SP on his turn — when Sparkle’s Ultimate refills 6 SP and Archer has 4+, his next turn gets a +120% CRIT DMG window for maximum chain damage.
Eidolons
Crossing the Boundary of Heroism
After using his Skill 3 times within a single turn, Archer recovers 2 Skill Points for allies. This is the most impactful early Eidolon — it partially self-sustains the SP drain, enabling the Circuit Connection chain to continue further. In practice this is a 15–20% DPS increase and significantly reduces pressure on SP-battery supports. Strongly recommended as a first pull for invested players.
The Price of Omnipotence
When Archer uses his Ultimate, reduces the target enemy’s Quantum RES by an additional amount and applies stronger Quantum Weakness. Increases the window and magnitude of the DEF-ignore bonus from Genius of Brilliant Stars. A meaningful offensive upgrade that improves the entire team’s Quantum damage output, not just Archer’s personal damage.
Sword of Promised Victory
Increases Ultimate DMG dealt by 150% — a dramatic multiplier on an already substantial hit. At E4, Archer’s Ultimate becomes a meaningful portion of his total damage output rather than primarily a setup tool. Also upgrades Ultimate and Talent level caps, enabling higher skill ceilings. A satisfying Eidolon for players who enjoy the Unlimited Blade Works animation as part of the damage rotation.
I Am the Bone of My Sword
Gains 1 Skill Point at the start of every turn, enabling more consistent Circuit Connection chains without depending entirely on supports. The Skill DMG stacking cap increases by 1 additional layer (from 200% to 300%), and Skill DMG ignores 20% of enemy DEF. Combined, E6 Archer has extreme self-sufficiency and a damage ceiling that few characters can match. Reserved for dedicated fans of the character or competitive endgame players.
💡 Eidolon Pull Priority
E0 is fully functional and competitive. Archer’s base kit can clear all endgame content with proper support. E1 is the most valuable Eidolon upgrade — the 2 SP recovery after 3 Skills meaningfully extends Chain turns and reduces team strain. E2 is a good power amplifier for Quantum teams. Beyond E2, the returns are incremental until E6’s dramatic self-sustaining upgrade. Pull Eidolons based on how much you enjoy the character — E0 is never a disadvantage.
Best Team Compositions
Archer’s teams share one universal goal: hoard as many Skill Points as possible for his turn, then let him detonate them all in one Chain sequence. Every teammate should either generate SP, avoid spending SP, or provide offensive amplification that compounds across his multi-hit chains.
👑 Mono-Quantum Premium
The definitive premium composition for Archer. Sparkle is Archer’s single best support: her Ultimate recovers 6 SP instantly, her Skill advances Archer’s action by 50% with a massive CRIT DMG buff, and her A2 Trace prevents her own next Skill from costing SP when an ally uses 3+ SP in one action — creating a self-reinforcing SP engine. With Archer’s A2 raising the cap to 7 SP and Sparkle’s Skill to 9 SP, Archer can realistically fire all 5 Chain Skills in a single turn.
Silver Wolf (reworked) guarantees Quantum Weakness on any enemy, ensuring Archer’s Genius of Brilliant Stars 4-piece applies its full 20% DEF ignore on every single turn. Her Ultimate DEF shred stacks with Genius of Brilliant Stars for a combined ~57% DEF reduction. Her SP usage is minimal when using Basic ATKs, preserving SP for Archer.
Aventurine sustains the team with shields, provides a CRIT Rate buff from his Passive, and applies the Trend of the Universal Market’s burn debuff as a passive SP-cost sustain. This team consistently delivers 2–3 million damage per Chain turn window in Memory of Chaos.
⚡ Sparkle + Cipher Hypercarry
A cutting-edge composition leveraging Cipher, one of the newest Nihility debuffers, who applies Vulnerability debuffs that amplify all damage taken by the enemy — stacking multiplicatively with Archer’s ATK and CRIT scaling. Cipher’s Skill-based debuff application is SP-efficient and generates additional follow-up procs. Sparkle continues her role as the SP engine, enabling the full 5-Skill chain.
Aventurine provides shielding and CRIT support. This team is specifically strong in Apocalyptic Shadow and Memory of Chaos boss phases where concentrated burst damage matters most. The Vulnerability stacking from Cipher means Archer’s chain turns deal massively amplified damage to the target.
🌸 Sparkle + Tribbie (Universal)
An excellent well-rounded composition centered on Tribbie, who provides All-Type RES penetration — a multiplicative damage amplifier that benefits every single one of Archer’s Chain Skill hits. Tribbie also triggers additional attacks after ally Ultimates, adding off-turn damage to the composition. She is SP-neutral to SP-positive, preserving the pool for Archer.
Gallagher is the ideal free sustain — SP-positive, provides consistent healing via his Besotted effect, and contributes to team SP economy by never spending SP unnecessarily. This team is available to most players and performs reliably across all endgame content types including Pure Fiction.
🆓 F2P Accessible
A fully free-to-play viable composition requiring zero limited 5-star pulls. Remembrance Trailblazer (RMC) provides CRIT DMG buffs for Archer and summons Mem — a free Memosprite that delivers additional off-turn damage and action advancement. Hanya is specifically designed for SP generation: her Skill grants a teammate +10 Energy and action advance, and her Talent’s “Burden” mechanic restores SP to the team when Burdened enemies are attacked — effectively running her Basic Attacks only to maintain positive SP flow for Archer.
Gallagher completes the team with SP-positive healing. While this team doesn’t reach the ceiling of Sparkle compositions, it delivers surprisingly strong performance — especially with Archer’s free signature Light Cone and Cruising in the Stellar Sea from the SU shop. Genuinely recommended for new players.
🎯 Mono-Quantum with Sunday
A premium alternative for players who own Sunday but not Sparkle. Sunday provides 80%+ CRIT DMG buffs, 100% action advance, and energy restoration — but critically, does NOT generate SP himself, only advances Archer’s action. His value here is in ensuring Archer acts more frequently per cycle. Pair with Silver Wolf using Basic Attacks only (to avoid draining SP) for guaranteed Quantum Weakness and DEF shred. Fu Xuan provides both sustain and a CRIT Rate buff from her Skill, while being SP-neutral when using Basic Attacks. Note: Sunday is less optimal than Sparkle for Archer specifically because SP generation is more valuable than action advance for his Chain mechanic.
Gameplay & Rotation Guide
Circuit Connection — Turn Sequence
Archer’s turn structure is straightforward once understood, but requires discipline in SP management:
- Between Archer’s turns: All other teammates use Basic Attacks only (or SP-positive abilities) to accumulate Skill Points. Target 5–7 SP before Archer’s turn.
- Sparkle’s turn (before Archer): Use Skill on Archer (+CRIT DMG, 50% action advance). Her A2 Trace refunds her Skill for free if an ally spent 3+ SP — preserving the pool. If her Ultimate is ready, use it to instantly refill 6 SP.
- Archer’s turn begins: Use Skill → enter Circuit Connection. Continue using Skill repeatedly. The 1st additional Skill deals +100% DMG; the 2nd and beyond deal +200% DMG (stacked cap). Continue until SP is exhausted or 5 Skills are used.
- Ultimate usage: Use Ultimate after 3 Skills (when already in peak Chain momentum) to implant Quantum Weakness for full Genius of Brilliant Stars DEF-ignore on remaining hits.
- Follow-Up Attacks: Archer’s Talent fires Follow-Up Attacks using Charges between his active turns — these trigger passively and contribute meaningful off-turn damage.
🗡️ Advanced Tips
SP management is everything: Never let supports spend SP unnecessarily. Set Silver Wolf and other supports to Basic Attack unless using their Skill is essential for debuff upkeep. Analyze the SP counter before every teammate action.
A6 activation window: Archer’s +120% CRIT DMG from his A6 Trace activates when allies gain SP and there are 4+ SP available. Time Sparkle’s Ultimate or Hanya’s SP refund to trigger this window right before Archer’s turn for maximum chain damage.
Don’t rush Archer’s SPD: Keep him at base speed (~105 SPD) for standard builds. The goal is to let 2–3 supports act between his turns to refill SP. Too-fast Archer = empty SP pool = short chains.
Technique opener: Archer’s Technique deals 200% Quantum DMG to all enemies at battle start and grants 1 Charge — ensuring a Follow-Up Attack fires on turn 1 before even using Ultimate. Always use in the overworld before entering combat.
Silver Wolf rotation tip: Have Silver Wolf use Basic Attacks every turn except when enemies reset their Weakness type. Her revised kit still applies Quantum Weakness via specific conditions — coordinate with Archer’s Ultimate Quantum Weakness for full overlap.
Archer vs Other Hunt DPS
vs Feixiao (Wind Follow-Up DPS)
🏹 Archer Advantages
- Higher single-turn burst potential
- Completely free (no pulls required)
- Quantum Weakness implant on any enemy
- Stronger in isolated boss fights
- Signature LC also free
🦅 Feixiao Advantages
- SP-positive team enabling diverse supports
- Better sustained DPS across long fights
- Excellent in Pure Fiction (FuA AoE)
- Paired with Robin for stronger buffs
- Less team-comp dependent
Verdict: Both are S+ tier. Archer excels in single-target burst windows and mono-Quantum compositions; Feixiao delivers higher sustained damage across multi-enemy and multi-turn scenarios. Team availability largely decides the winner.
vs Seele (Quantum Hunt)
Seele and Archer fill the same Quantum Hunt DPS niche but with very different mechanics. Seele’s Resurgence mechanic grants extra turns on kill, rewarding momentum in multi-target fights. Archer’s Circuit Connection mechanic front-loads massive single-turn damage even before anything dies. In the current endgame meta, Archer consistently outperforms Seele in boss-focused content due to higher raw damage potential. Seele retains value in multi-wave and multi-enemy scenarios. Veteran Mono-Quantum players will find Archer a dramatic upgrade.
Should You Build Archer?
✅ Absolutely Build Him — He’s Free:
- He requires zero Stellar Jade — the highest possible value for any character
- His signature Light Cone is also free — no Light Cone banner investment needed
- He competes with premium limited DPS in single-target scenarios
- His F2P team (RMC + Hanya + Gallagher) is viable and fully obtainable
- If you have Sparkle built, Archer becomes a top-3 DPS option immediately
- Quantum Weakness implant via Ultimate means he’s effective against any enemy
- His kit rewards learning — mastering SP timing elevates his performance dramatically
⚠️ Consider Carefully if:
- You have no SP-battery support (Sparkle, Hanya, or RMC minimum) — his kit underperforms without SP management
- You primarily focus on AoE content (Pure Fiction) — his single-target nature is a limitation there
- You dislike managing SP economy across your full team
Final Verdict: Archer is one of HSR’s most compelling free characters. As a 5-star DPS available at zero cost with a free signature Light Cone, there is virtually no reason not to claim and invest in him. His Circuit Connection mechanic delivers some of the most exciting gameplay in the game — chaining five consecutive sword strikes in a single turn is genuinely spectacular. With proper SP management and Sparkle support, he delivers S+ tier damage that competes with top limited DPS. Whether you’re a Fate fan or a competitive player, Archer is an outstanding long-term investment and one of the best gifts HoYoverse has offered players.
