Who Is Rhona Dinsmore?
Rhona Dinsmore is a Scottish Master Assassin and the leader of the Havana bureau during the early 18th century Caribbean. When Edward Kenway first encounters her, the bureau is already under assault — a direct result of sensitive information Edward sold to the Templars earlier in the game. Her target is Hilary Flint, an English Templar with a complicated personal history with Rhona, who has been funding an arms buildup in Havana using pickpockets and thieves to finance gunpowder stores intended to destroy the local Assassins for good.
How to Unlock the Rhona Dinsmore Templar Hunt
The Rhona Dinsmore Templar Hunt becomes available after you complete the main story mission This Old Cove in Sequence 4. Once that mission is done, all 4 Templar Hunts unlock simultaneously and appear in your Quest Log. You can start Rhona’s questline at any point after that.
Head to the southeastern edge of Havana and look for the Assassin’s Bureau at coordinates 216, 569. You will hear gunfire before you even see the quest marker — the bureau is already under attack the moment you arrive.
Mission 1: Bureau Under Attack
When you reach Rhona at the bureau, soldiers are already pushing in. Talk to her to trigger the combat sequence. Your job is to survive 3 waves of attacking Spaniards while keeping Rhona alive.
Before the first wave starts, you have a short window to grab red powder kegs from around the courtyard and carry them to the three entrances of the bureau. Rhona places one herself each round, so watch where she goes if you are unsure which spots to cover. When guards funnel through an entrance, shoot the keg to detonate it and clear the group in one blast. A single pistol shot can take out three or four soldiers at once this way, saving you a lot of sword work and health.
If you miss the placement window, do not worry — the mission continues regardless. You will just be fighting the waves with swords and pistols in a straight fight. Health supplies and ammo are sitting on the tables in front of the bureau, so grab them between waves if you are running low. After surviving all 3 waves, the mission ends. Rhona then relocates to the northwest part of Havana and waits for you on the roof of a small stone pergola.
Tip: Heavies appear in the later waves. They take more hits to bring down. Priority target them first so they do not soak up your sword combos while lighter soldiers chip at your health from the sides.
Mission 2: A Thief in the Market
After the bureau defense, head to the west side of Havana to meet Rhona at the next marker. She suspects the market thefts happening nearby are connected to the bureau attack — too convenient to be a coincidence. She sends you to investigate.
Go to the market and speak with two merchants who are complaining about a pickpocket. The first is near a stall with barrels and a cage. The second is close by, just in front of a shop called Harbour Master. Talking to both moves the quest forward.
Once done, find the nearby bench and use it to blend in with the crowd. After a few seconds, a pickpocket steals from someone in the market and bolts. Give chase. He is not particularly fast and the streets are wide, so do not panic. He runs up some stairs and eventually corners himself. You can tackle him, use a Rope Dart to yank him into a fight, or simply kill him outright. Loot his body to find A Pickpocketed Map — a document signed by Hilary Flint that reveals the locations of 3 gunpowder stores hidden across Havana.
Return the map to Rhona to complete the mission.
Tip: Clear your notoriety before returning to Rhona. If any guards spotted you during the chase and your wanted level is active, the mission will not register as complete until you lose the heat. Pay a town crier or tear down wanted posters to clear it fast.
Mission 3: Arms Race
Rhona now knows where Flint has hidden his gunpowder. She takes care of a few locations herself, leaving you 3 reserves to destroy in the northern area of Havana. Follow the markers on your compass to find each one.
The fastest approach for all 3 is to travel along the rooftops rather than through the streets. From a rooftop position you can tag guards with Eagle Vision, snipe snipers before dropping down, and get clean angles on the barrels themselves. Here is how each location plays out:
- Reserve 1: The barrel is tucked beneath a small wooden awning on the west side of a courtyard. One guard oversees the area. Sneak down and eliminate the guard, then ignite the barrel. You can also snipe the barrel directly from the nearby rooftop to make this trivial.
- Reserve 2: This one is a little further west and has tighter security. Two guards stand below with snipers covering from above. Take out the snipers first from the rooftop, then drop down for a double assassination on the guards, and ignite the barrel inside the hut.
- Reserve 3: The barrel is at the last marked location with guards both below and on the rooftops. From the top, you can shoot the guards below or drop down for a double assassination. Then detonate the barrel.
Tip: Step back before shooting any barrel. The explosion radius is larger than it looks. Standing too close deals serious damage. Shoot from a safe distance or sprint clear immediately after igniting.
Once all 3 reserves are destroyed, the mission completes. Destroying Flint’s stockpile forces him out into the open — he heads to the docks to move the rest of his powder offshore. That is where you finish him.
Mission 4: Flint’s End
Return to Rhona. She is waiting on a rooftop near the docks and explains that Flint has come out in the open. This is the final mission. Follow her across the rooftops toward the docks below.
Rhona jumps down and immediately draws the attention of all nearby guards around Flint, pulling them away from you. That is your window. Do not engage the guards — let Rhona handle them. Drop down, activate Eagle Vision, and scan for Hilary Flint. He will be marked automatically. There is also a hay wagon nearby you can dive into for a moment if you need to let the guards fully commit to Rhona before moving.
Flint retreats toward the pier when he spots you. He does not get far — he runs out of space at the end of the dock and turns to fight. He favors combat at range with his pistol, so close the distance fast and get into melee range. Rush him with your swords and he goes down quickly. There is also an explosive barrel sitting right next to him on the pier if you want a faster finish — one shot detonates it and the fight is over.
Once Flint is dead, hold the interaction button next to his body to confirm the assassination and collect the Templar Key. Since Rhona has all the guards occupied, you have as much time as you need to make the kill clean. Return to the Assassin’s Bureau and speak to Rhona one final time to close the hunt.
Tip: Use Eagle Vision if you lose track of Flint. With guards moving around and Rhona causing chaos, it is easy to lose sight of him. Eagle Vision marks him clearly so you can navigate straight to him without wasting time.
Templar Key and Reward
Completing Rhona Dinsmore’s Templar Hunt gives you one of the 5 Templar Keys needed to unlock the Templar Armor at your manor in Great Inagua. Use rooftops in Arms Race. Street-level approaches to the gunpowder reserves bring you into contact with more guards and alert them faster. The rooftop path gives you elevated sight lines, sniper angles, and escape routes after each detonation.
Let Rhona distract in Flint’s End. Her distraction is scripted and effective — every guard in the area follows her. Do not waste time fighting them. Use the window she creates to go straight for Flint.
