Where to Start the Upton Travers Templar Hunt
Head to Nassau in the Eleuthera region. You’re looking for Vance Travers, not Upton. He’s standing outside a small wooden house toward the south of the island near the coast. Speak to him and he’ll ask you to track down his brother Upton and locate his hideout. That conversation kicks off Mission 1.
Mission 1: Oh Brother…
After speaking with Vance, head north toward the nearby market on the west side of Nassau. Once you enter the Explore area on your map, activate Eagle Vision. Upton’s men are highlighted green and walking through the streets. You have two ways to handle this:
- Tail them quietly – Stay undetected and follow them all the way to Upton’s hideout. The Explore zone on your map stays at full size.
- Kill them and loot their bodies – This works too. The Explore area shrinks after the fight, making the hideout easier to find on foot without following anyone.
Either way, head west once the dust settles. Upton Travers is standing in the center of his hideout. Wait for the guards to move, then sneak in through the grass or climb onto the rooftops for an air assassination. When you move in for the kill, a cutscene triggers. Upton stops you mid-attempt — he’s not a Templar, and he redirects the quest entirely.
Upton asks you to meet him at the bureau in Nassau. Head there and speak to him. This completes Mission 1 and leads straight into Mission 2.
Mission 2: The Other Brother
Speak to Upton at the Nassau bureau to start this one. He leads you to a vantage point outside a building. When he signals, duck into the nearby bushes and eavesdrop on the conversation between Upton and Vance. You’ll learn that Vance has gone behind Upton’s back to meet with a pirate named Jing Lang, and she’s the one pulling strings on this whole situation.
After the brothers’ conversation, follow Upton again. Midway through the escort, you’ll be tasked with eliminating Jing Lang’s men who have surrounded a nearby house. Clear them out, then investigate the house. On the right side of the building, sitting on a wooden crate, is a letter from Jing Lang. It reveals that Vance has taken his half of a treasure map to meet her.
Speak to Upton, then follow your quest marker to the tavern where Vance and Jing Lang are meeting. Eavesdrop on their conversation without being spotted. You’ll learn that Vance has hired someone to kill Upton so he and Jing Lang can steal Upton’s half of the map.
Move fast after this. Return to Upton’s hideout — he’s already under attack when you arrive. Fight off all the soldiers until the area is clear, then speak to Upton. He relocates north to the tavern, which is the starting point for Mission 3.
Mission 3: Upton’s Sorrow
This is the most chaotic mission in the chain — and arguably the most fun. Head to the tavern and speak to Upton. He’s very drunk and immediately confides in you before things go sideways. A brawl breaks out. Fight off the attackers using hand-to-hand combat, then begin escorting Upton home through Nassau.
The escort has two interruptions:
- Dancers – Upton solicits some dancers along the route. When prompted, pay them 100 Reales to send them on their way. This is mandatory to progress, so make sure you have enough coin before starting this mission.
- Guards – A pack of guards will cut off your path further along. Defeat them, then speak to Upton to complete the mission.
Don’t try to rush ahead of Upton during the escort. Stay close and deal with each interruption as it comes up. Once he’s home safe and you speak to him, Mission 3 is done.

This is the finale. Track Upton’s updated map marker to a location in the east of the island. He’s considerably more sober now. Speak to him and you’ll receive your final objective: assassinate Vance Travers to recover the Templar Key. Vance is hiding in the swamp east of Nassau.
Getting to Vance
Don’t try to wade through the swamp on foot — parkour through the trees instead. This is much faster and keeps you out of sight. As you close in on Vance’s position, you’ll run into some guards loading a boat near the water. Kill them, then activate Eagle Vision and look north. A glowing green marker near a white tent marks Vance’s exact position.
Assassinating Vance Travers
Fight through any remaining guards between you and the tent, then go for the assassination. The easiest approach is to get above Vance and use a Rope Dart to hang him. If you prefer a quieter entry, a Sleep Dart will drop him silently, and you can finish the job cleanly after. Either method works fine.
Chasing Down Jing Lang
After Vance falls, a cutscene plays and Jing Lang flees into the swamp. Chase her down. Do not waste ammo or try to shoot her while she’s running — she’s immune to damage during the chase. Wait until she stops and turns to fight. When she does, she has two guards with her. Take the guards out first, then finish off Jing Lang. One clean parry into a chain takedown works well here.
After Jing Lang is dead, you receive the third Templar Key. Before the questline closes out completely, return to Upton and tell him what happened. That final conversation wraps the entire Upton Travers Templar Hunt.
Templar Key Reward and What It Unlocks
Completing this hunt earns you the third Templar Key. There are five keys in total — four from the Templar Hunts and one awarded automatically after defeating Du Casse in the main story mission A Single Madman. Once you have all five, head back to the Manor at Great Inagua and open the suit cage to claim the Templar Armor.
