Does Control Resonant Have New Game Plus?
Yes. Control Resonant launched with a full New Game Plus mode on September 24, 2026. It is unlocked the moment you finish the main story — no grind required, no hidden unlock condition. You go straight from credits to NG+ if you want to.
The idea behind NG+ is that your first run was about learning Dylan’s build. Your second run is about pushing it further. You bring your full combat progression into a harder, more evolved version of the game, with new options that were not available during your first playthrough.
How to Start New Game Plus in Control Resonant
After the credits roll, enter the Gap by pressing Down on the D-pad on controller (or G on keyboard). The Board will comment on Jesse’s condition, and a notification will tell you new Talent nodes are now available. This is your signal that NG+ is ready.
While facing the Hedron illustration on the mural wall, hold L1 to activate it. The New Game Plus prompt will appear. Select yes and the game writes a new NG+ save to a free separate slot, clearly labeled so you always know which run you are loading.
Your original completed save is not touched. You can switch between your first-run save and the NG+ save freely at any time.
Before you start: Finish any quests, World Feats, Tasks, or SHUM arcade challenges you still want to complete on your current save. Quest progress resets in NG+, so anything incomplete there needs to be done before you hit the mural.
What Carries Over Into New Game Plus
Almost everything tied to your combat build and character power comes with you. Here is the full list:
- Aberrant forms and upgrades — All six weapon forms and every upgrade node you unlocked carry over.
- Talent tree progress — Every talent point spent, plus any unspent points, transfers to NG+.
- Combat Abilities — All abilities earned from defeating Resonants carry over, including any unspent Resonant Tokens.
- Artifacts — Every Artifact you found, crafted, and equipped is available in NG+.
- Max Health and Max Power improvements — All stat upgrades carry over.
- Zone levels and rewards — Zone progression is retained.
- Source and crafting materials — Resources carry over in full.
- Outfits and cosmetics — All unlocked skins and outfits are available from the start.
- Archives and SHUM III scores — Collectible progress and arcade scores carry over.
- The mysterious dog pet — Only carries over if you completed the Every Dog Has Her Day objective before finishing your first-run campaign.

What Resets in New Game Plus
A short but important list of things that do not come with you:
- Traversal abilities — Shift, Reach, and the other movement powers are removed entirely and must be unlocked again through story progression. This is deliberate: keeping traversal abilities would let you skip story gates and break quest triggers.
- Quest progress — All main and side quests reset. You play through the story again from the beginning.
- Key items — Quest-specific key items are removed.
- Side quest completion status — Though any rewards you already earned remain with you.
- Completed secrets — Their rewards carry over, but the secrets themselves show as uncollected.
- Map progress — The map resets.
The most important reset to remember is traversal abilities. Even though your full combat kit is intact from the start, you will not be able to use Shift or Reach until you unlock them through the story again. Our West Incursion Zone Resonant guide covers how to get Shift back quickly via the Incursion Fault.
What Is New in New Game Plus
NG+ is not just a harder replay with your old build. Several things are genuinely new and only available on a second run.
Fourth Artifact Slot
The base game lets Dylan equip three Artifacts at once. New Game Plus unlocks a fourth slot immediately, opening up build combinations that were not possible before. This is one of the biggest reasons to play NG+ — certain Artifact sets only reach full effect with four pieces.
Important rule: Artifacts from the same family cannot be equipped together. Plan your four-slot setup before jumping in to avoid conflicts. Our Power Upgrade Chest Locations guide can help you gather any resources you still need for crafting.
New Talent Nodes
NG+ expands the Talent tree with additional nodes that were not available during the first run. These go deeper into ability pairings and Aberrant attack interactions — letting you fully develop a playstyle that was only partially realised before. If you were building around the Dominance execution loop, the new nodes push it further than the base game allows.
Alternate Resonant Boss Ability Rewards
This is the biggest gameplay change. In your first run, each Resonant boss gave you a choice between two Combat Abilities and you could only pick one. In NG+, you can fight the same bosses again and select the ability you skipped the first time. This means you can build loadouts that mix abilities from the same Resonant — something the first run deliberately prevents.
It also means choices you agonised over on your first run are no longer permanent. You can finally experiment with full cross-Resonant synergies. For a refresher on every boss and what abilities they offer, see our Control Resonant All Bosses Guide.
NG+-Exclusive Artifacts
Certain activities in NG+ — including defeating Resonant bosses on the second run — reward Artifacts that do not exist in the base game. These are not available in any first-run save. If you are going for 100% completion, NG+ is required.
Tougher Enemies and Boss Changes
Every enemy in the game is harder in NG+. They start at higher baseline levels, hit harder, take more to stagger, and have more aggressive AI with greater shield resistance. The difficulty increase is manageable early on because your build is already developed — but it becomes very noticeable in the final zones.
More importantly, some Resonant bosses have entirely new attacks and behaviors in NG+. Strategies that worked cleanly on your first run may need adjusting. Our individual boss guides — including the Dancer Boss Guide, Hedron Boss Guide, and Co-Director Boss Guide — are worth revisiting before those fights.
New Game Plus vs Resonant Cycle — What Is the Difference?
These are two different systems and easy to confuse.
A Resonant Cycle is triggered by defeating a Resonant boss. It refreshes most encounters and all World Feats in the game world, increases danger, and improves drop quality — but it does not restart the story or reset quests. It happens within your current save and is a repeatable endgame loop for farming and challenge.
New Game Plus is a full story restart from the Resonant mural in the Gap. It carries your combat build forward but resets quests, the map, key items, and traversal abilities. It creates a new save slot and is a proper second playthrough of the full campaign.
If you want harder versions of specific fights and better drops without replaying the story, use Resonant Cycles. If you want the full second-run experience with NG+ content unlocked, use New Game Plus.
New Game++ — Infinite Replays (Update 1.4)
At launch, NG+ had a one-replay limit. After finishing your NG+ run, you could not start another one — your progress was stuck at the end of that save.
Remedy addressed this with Update 1.4, released October 1, 2026. The patch introduced New Game++, which removes the replay limit entirely. You can now start back-to-back NG+ runs without losing your build. Each new run adds Talent Points, deepens your build further, and scales the world up again.
The patch also fixed several key bugs, including an issue with the Co-Director boss where Perfect Dodge was nearly impossible to trigger against most of its attacks, and a rare Artifact equip glitch that removed effects when swapping items in the Loadout screen.
If you are on your original NG+ save, keep it — the October patch notes explain how completed NG+ saves enter the New Game++ cycle.

Tips Before Starting New Game Plus
Complete Side Quests and Collectibles First
Quest progress resets when you start NG+. If there are side quests, Task missions, or SHUM III arcade runs you have not finished, do them now. Rewards from completed quests carry over to NG+, but the quests themselves reset and require replaying. Check our guides for any quests you may have missed, including the Carbon Copy Questline and The Party Won’t Stop.
Plan Your Fourth Artifact Slot in Advance
The fourth slot unlocks the moment you start NG+, but Artifacts from the same family cannot be equipped together. Think through your four-Artifact setup before you begin so you are not making last-minute changes in the Gap. The slot is powerful enough that the wrong combination can actually make your build weaker.
Spend Unspent Talent Points and Tokens Before Transitioning
Any unspent Talent Points and Resonant Tokens carry into NG+. You do not need to spend them before you start — but if you have been sitting on them, NG+’s new Talent nodes are a good place to put them. Head to the Gap once your NG+ run begins and check the expanded tree before anything else.
Respec If Needed
If you want to try a completely different build in NG+, it is easier to respec before starting. See our Control Resonant Respec Guide for how to reset your Talent points. This is especially useful if you are planning to build around a Combat Ability you skipped in the first run.
Unlock Shift First
The moment you are in NG+ and traversal abilities are gone, your first priority is getting Shift back. You need it to access most of the West Incursion Zone, progress the story, and unlock further routes. Head straight to the Incursion Fault in the Parking Garage — it is fast to complete when you already know where to go and your combat build is fully developed.
Is New Game Plus Required for Trophies?
Yes, partially. Some progression is locked to NG+, including NG+-exclusive Artifacts, additional Talent nodes, and alternate Combat Abilities from Resonant bosses. If you are going for 100% completion or the Platinum trophy, at least one NG+ run is required. The Beginner Tips page has a broader overview of how progression systems feed into completion if you want to plan your runs.
Control Resonant is available now on PlayStation Store, Xbox, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
