TL;DR
- The Demeniss Royal Guard Shield is hidden underground in the Church of East Demeniss
- It’s southeast of the Golden Plains, east of the second “S” in Demeniss on your map
- Enter through a gap near the tombstones — go down the ladder
- Navigate trap-filled tunnels, pull the correct levers, and avoid the booby-trapped doors
- The shield comes pre-refined to Level 5 with two Abyss Gear bonuses already equipped
- No boss fight needed — just traps and a bit of patience
If you play any kind of defensive or shield-focused build in Crimson Desert, the Demeniss Royal Guard Shield is one of the best early-to-mid game shields you can grab. It’s already refined to Level 5 when you find it. That means no grinding, no materials, no crafting. You just go get it.
The catch? It’s buried underground inside a booby-trapped mausoleum. A few wrong moves and you’ll take some nasty hits. But there are no enemies or boss to fight — just traps to dodge and levers to pull. This guide covers exactly where to go and how to get through without taking unnecessary damage.
What Is the Demeniss Royal Guard Shield?
This is a Legendary shield with solid defensive stats and two Abyss Gear bonuses already slotted in:
Damage Reduction 1.0 — You take slightly less damage while actively blocking. Every hit you absorb becomes a bit less punishing.
Guard Stamina Cost -3.0% — Blocking costs less stamina. This means you can hold your guard longer before your stamina runs out, which is a real advantage against enemies that spam attacks.
The shield has 11 Refinement Levels and 2 sockets, so there’s room to grow it well into the late game. The Abyss Gear bonuses it comes with are not permanent — you can visit any Witch and swap them out for other gears that better fit your build if needed.

Demeniss Royal Guard Shield Location
Head to the Church of East Demeniss. On your map, it sits southeast of the Golden Plains, directly east of the second “S” in the word “Demeniss.”

Use the nearest Abyss Nexus to fast travel to the area, then walk along the dirt path toward the church. If you’re not sure how fast travel works, see our How to Fast Travel in Crimson Desert guide.
Once you reach the church, don’t go inside through the main entrance. Instead, turn west and look for the small section near the tombstones. Walk through that area and you’ll find a gap in front of a statue. That’s your entrance to the underground chambers. Use the ladder to go down, or just jump in if your health is topped up.

How to Navigate the Underground Chambers
The moment you’re inside, the rules change. This place is full of traps. Watch for flashing red lights on the walls or floor — those signal something is about to trigger. Your lantern (L1/LB) makes tripwires and pressure plates shimmer slightly, so keep it out while exploring.
Here’s how to get through cleanly, step by step:
Step 1: Handle the first trap rope. As you move forward, you’ll see a trap rope (tripwire) stretched across a doorway. You have two options — shoot it with a bow or arrow to trigger it safely from a distance, or jump over it. Don’t walk through it.
Step 2: Pull the first lever. After clearing the first trap, proceed to the gate ahead. Look for the lever on the wall to your right and pull it. This opens the gate forward. Be ready — pulling it activates wall-mounted dart traps. Don’t run down the center of the hall. Hug a wall or sprint through quickly to minimize hits.
Step 3: Continue down the main path. Keep going forward and watch your step. The floor and walls have more trap triggers along the way. Stay alert for red flashing warnings and move carefully.
Step 4: Climb the stairs and clear another trap rope. You’ll hit a set of stairs. Climb them, then deal with another trap rope at the top — again, shoot it or jump over it.
Step 5: The final room — three doors, one right choice. This is where most players either get lucky or take a beating. You’ll enter a room with three doors and three levers in front of you.
Two doors are booby-trapped. One has the shield.
Pull the lever on the RIGHT. That’s the safe one. It opens a gate revealing a small altar with the Demeniss Royal Guard Shield on it.
Do not pull the left lever. That door is rigged with spears that fire repeatedly and will hurt.
Step 6: Grab the shield. Walk up to the altar and interact with it. The Demeniss Royal Guard Shield is now in your inventory.
Once you have it, you don’t need to walk back through all the traps. Open your map and fast travel out to the nearest Abyss Nexus.

Tips for Getting Through Without Much Damage
A few things that make this run cleaner:
Use your lantern the whole time. It highlights trap ropes and pressure plates before you walk into them. This alone prevents most of the damage players accidentally take.
Bring food before you go in. If you haven’t sorted out your food and healing yet, check our How to Cook Best Healing Food in Crimson Desert guide. Even one or two healing items makes a difference when darts are flying.
Hold your guard up in unfamiliar corridors. If you’re not sure what’s ahead, walk with your shield raised. It won’t stop spike traps but it absorbs dart hits, which is exactly what this dungeon throws at you.
Don’t rush. The traps in here are timed and positioned. Moving slowly and watching for red lights is much better than sprinting and taking full hits.
What to Do With the Shield After You Get It
The Demeniss Royal Guard Shield is yours to use immediately. It’s already at Refinement Level 5, so it’s ready for most mid-game content right away.
The two Abyss Gear bonuses it comes with — Damage Reduction 1.0 and Guard Stamina Cost -3.0% — are solid defaults for a blocking build. But they’re not locked in. Visit any Witch in the game and select the Craft Abyss Gear option to extract those gears and replace them with ones that suit your playstyle better. The Witch in The Witchwoods (southwest of Hernand) is the most accessible early on.
If you want to understand the full Abyss Gear system, our Crimson Desert Unlock Witches Abyss Gears Guide explains how extraction and slotting works in detail.
For those pushing into harder content, the shield also remains useful into the late game once you socket better Abyss Gears into it. The Guard Stamina reduction in particular stacks well with defensive builds facing bosses that deal rapid hits.
