TL;DR
- Mudridge Cabin is located southeast of Unicorn Cliffs in Pororin Forest, Hernand
- The mud surrounding the cabins drains your HP fast — avoid it entirely by climbing the wooden posts
- Defeat the bandits before attempting any puzzles
- There are two sliding tile painting puzzles — one for the upstairs strongbox, one for the lower cabin door
- Strongbox reward: Flower Petal Earring (also functions as a music box)
- Cabin door reward: Alchemy Recipe for Meliara’s Lesser Elixir (boosts max HP by 75 and attack speed for 5 minutes)
- There is also a hidden chest reachable by crouching through a narrow passageway — reward: Goblin King’s Treasure Dagger
- Equip a Mask before looting the strongbox or you cannot take the reward
Mudridge Cabin is one of those spots in Crimson Desert that looks like a simple two-cabin settlement but hides more than it lets on. Two sliding tile puzzles, a hidden chest, and a deadly mud pool that will kill you if you are not paying attention. The rewards are worth it though — especially the elixir recipe, which pays off in boss fights later in the game.
Here is everything you need to know to clear it completely.
Mudridge Cabin Location

Mudridge Cabin sits in the Pororin Forest region, southeast of Unicorn Cliffs, near the Unreachable Village. The area is made up of two small wooden cabins built on raised posts, surrounded by a wide, deep mud pool.
Do not step in the mud. It slows your movement significantly and drains your health the entire time you are in it. The only way to reach the cabins safely is to climb the wooden posts on the side of the structure. If you are playing as Kliff, you can use the Aerial Force Palm or Axiom Force skills to glide directly onto the platforms and skip the mud entirely.
Use our fast travel guide to get to the area quickly, and check our Unreachable Village quest guide if you are doing quests in this part of the map.
Before You Start: Clear the Bandits and Equip a Mask
The cabin area is guarded by bandits. Take them out first before doing anything else. They are standard enemies and should not be a problem if your gear is in reasonable shape. If you need a quick gear check, see our how to get better equipment guide.
You can shoot them from range using a bow, which is a clean way to handle them without pulling the whole group at once.
More importantly — before you open the strongbox, equip a Mask. Items inside strongboxes count as stolen goods in Crimson Desert. You can solve the puzzle without a mask, but you will not be able to take the reward. Masks drop from defeated bandits or can be bought cheaply from the Back Alley Shop in Hernand City.
Keep in mind that looting a strongbox causes a -5 Contribution penalty in the Hernand region regardless of whether anyone sees you. Stay out of sight after stealing until the suspicion timer clears. For the full breakdown on how this works, see our how to steal items guide.
Puzzle 1: Strongbox Puzzle (Upper Floor)

Location: Inside the upper section of the first cabin. Climb the wooden posts on the side of the building to reach the second floor, then head through the door. The strongbox is immediately on your left as you enter.
Puzzle type: Sliding tile. The puzzle features a fragmented painting of a tree split across a 3×3 grid. One square is always empty, and you slide the other tiles into position to complete the image.
Exact solution — move the squares in this order:
- Center Right → Down
- Center → Right
- Center Left → Right
- Bottom Left → Up
- Bottom Center → Left
- Center → Down
- Center Left → Right
- Bottom Left → Up
- Bottom Center → Left
- Bottom Right → Left
Follow that sequence and the painting completes. The strongbox pops open.
Reward: Flower Petal Earring. This is a useful early accessory and also doubles as a music box. Once equipped, press L2+R2 on PlayStation, LT+RT on Xbox, or B on keyboard to play a tune. It is a fun little item.

Puzzle 2: Cabin Door Puzzle (Lower Floor)

Location: After collecting the strongbox reward, head back out to the balcony, walk right, and climb down the wooden pole. At the bottom, you will find a locked door with another sliding tile puzzle attached to it. This one is easy to miss if you just head straight out after the strongbox — make sure to check the lower exterior.
Puzzle type: Sliding tile. This painting features a black cat with some bottles and shrubbery in the background. The mechanics work exactly the same as the strongbox puzzle — slide the square fragments into the correct positions to restore the complete image.
How to approach it: Focus on the edges and corners first. The black cat image has clear color boundaries and distinct shapes, so look for where lines and shading continue from one tile to the next. Work inward from whichever corner piece you can identify first. There is no time limit and no move limit, so take your time.
Once the image is complete, the door unlocks automatically.
Reward: Alchemy Recipe — Meliara’s Lesser Elixir. The recipe is sitting on top of a stack of books inside the room. Pick it up and learn it immediately so it gets added to your crafting system. The elixir boosts your max HP by 75 and increases attack speed by one level for five minutes. Both of those effects are genuinely useful for boss encounters. Bonus: Hidden Chest
Before you leave Mudridge Cabin entirely, check the second small cabin. There is a chest inside that looks unreachable at first. It is not locked behind a puzzle — it just requires a bit of navigation.
From the door puzzle area, turn southeast and look for a narrow platform. Climb up onto it, then crouch through the hidden passageway that runs along the side of the structure. Follow it to the other side and you will reach the chest.
Reward: Goblin King’s Treasure Dagger. This item grants a 10% chance to obtain additional hides whenever you skin animals. If you are doing any serious crafting or gear upgrading that requires leather and animal materials, this dagger is genuinely worth picking up. Having it equipped during hunts speeds up your resource gathering noticeably.

Tips for Sliding Tile Puzzles in General
If you want to tackle other sliding tile puzzles across Pywel, the same core approach applies everywhere:
Start with corners and edges. These pieces have the fewest possible positions they can sit in, so they narrow things down fast.
Follow color gradients. Paintings in Crimson Desert use clear color transitions between tiles. A sky piece will flow into another sky piece — the shading lines up across edges when a tile is in the right spot.
Do not rush. There are no penalties for wrong moves and no time pressure. Backing out and resetting is also an option if you get into a bad position.
