TL;DR

  • This is a Training 5 challenge tied to a Sealed Abyss Artifact near Unicorn Cliff
  • The challenge says “walk on a rope” — but any rooftop ridge, ledge, or fence works
  • Walk 10 meters in one direction without falling — back and forth does not count
  • Rewards: 1x Abyss Artifact + 1x Faded Abyss Artifact
  • Use Blinding Flash or hold up your lantern to spot the artifact on the road
  • Challenge progress only starts tracking after you pick up the artifact
  • Completing all 10 Training Challenges unlocks the Relentless Warrior trophy/achievement

The Keeping Balance on the Wind challenge in Crimson Desert sounds simple. Walk 10 meters on a rope. Done.

But the game never actually tells you that no rope is needed at all.

This is one of those challenges where the description misleads you completely. Here’s everything you need to know — including where to find the artifact, how to complete it quickly, and what you get when you do.

Where to Find the Keeping Balance on the Wind Sealed Abyss Artifact

The Sealed Abyss Artifact for this challenge is on a stone memorial along the main road of Nas Riverside, near Unicorn Cliff. It sits on the side of the road, slightly west of the Unicorn Cliff text on the map.

You can generally find Sealed Abyss Artifacts resting on rocks by roadsides. This one is easy to miss if you’re not looking. Two things help:

  • Hold up your lantern — Sealed Abyss Artifacts emit a ring of light from a distance when your lantern is raised.
  • Use Blinding Flash — press the lantern button and light attack button at the same time. Glints of light in the distance reveal nearby artifacts.

When you get close, a purple icon will appear on your minimap. That’s your signal.

Important: Challenge progress only counts after finding the associated Sealed Abyss Artifact — it doesn’t count retroactively. Pick it up before trying to complete the challenge.

Once picked up, track your progress under Journal > Challenges.

How to Complete Keeping Balance on the Wind

While walking on thin surfaces such as ropes, peaks of rooftops, or certain fences, you can balance while walking along them. Do this on any surface for 10 meters in one direction to complete this.

The actual trigger is the balancing animation. As long as Kliff enters that animation, the surface counts. Rooftop ridges are the easiest option.

Recommended method — use a rooftop:

The big manors and buildings around Hernand work well. Find one with a long enough ridge, climb up, and walk straight from one end to the other. A shed rooftop near the healer’s house — in the area tied to the Chapter 3 story quest — is a reliable and convenient option since you’ll likely be nearby anyway.

A few rules that matter:

  • You must cover 10 meters in a single straight line
  • Walking back and forth does not count
  • Moving from one ledge to another does not register either
  • You don’t need to be high up — the height doesn’t matter, only the surface type and distance

Alternative method — fallen tree:

You can also cut down a tall tree and walk along the trunk. This technically works, but finding a tree long enough to cover 10 meters takes more effort than just climbing any nearby roof.

Keeping Balance on the Wind Rewards

Completing the Keeping Balance on the Wind challenge awards both an Abyss Artifact and a Faded Abyss Artifact.

Here’s what both do:

Abyss Artifact — This is a skill point. Use it to unlock new skills or level up existing ones in your skill tree. The higher you level a skill, the more Abyss Artifacts it costs. Collect as many as you can.

Faded Abyss Artifact — This lets you respec. It resets all your current skill points so you can reallocate them. Useful if you want to try a different build or correct an early mistake.

What Are Sealed Abyss Artifacts?

Sealed Abyss Artifacts are special collectibles in Crimson Desert described in-game as fragments of the Abyss that fell from the skies. Unlike the standard Abyss Artifacts you earn by defeating enemies or solving puzzles, Sealed Abyss Artifacts are physical objects placed in the open world, and each one is tied directly to a specific Challenge.

There are 141 Sealed Abyss Artifacts in total. All Challenges are needed for trophies and achievements, so all Sealed Abyss Artifacts are needed as a prerequisite for the Platinum trophy and 1000 Gamerscore.

Combat Challenges reward you primarily with Abyss Artifacts. Some Combat Challenges also reward Faded Abyss Artifacts, which are used for skill tree resets so you can respec and try a different set of skills.

For a full breakdown of how to open these, see our Sealed Abyss Artifacts guide and our guide on how to get Abyss Cells in Crimson Desert.

Keeping Balance on the Wind and the Relentless Warrior Trophy

This challenge is part of the Training category — specifically Training 5. There are 10 Training Challenges in total, and finishing all of them unlocks the Relentless Warrior trophy and achievement.

So if you’re going for the Platinum or full 1000 Gamerscore, don’t skip this one. It’s one of the easiest Training challenges once you know what surface counts.
