The Aqua and Seth boss fight in Deltarune Chapter 5 is not a single encounter. You run into this duo three separate times across the chapter, and each fight works differently. The first time you face Aqua alone. The second is Seth’s giant glasses bullet pattern. The third is the main dual boss battle where both fight together before Aqua goes rogue and ends things herself. This guide covers all three encounters, every attack pattern, and how to spare them on a pacifist run.
- Aqua is a light blue humanoid Darkner who fights with a swarm of spinning knives. Seth is a purple Darkner who uses a book and homing bombs.
- First encounter: Face Aqua alone as Kris only. Use all five ACTs to fill her Mercy meter and survive the Omega Attack.
- Second encounter: Seth’s Bullet Pattern — giant glasses that throws swords. Use ACT on the center, then target the handles so Ralsei grabs on, then hit the center to deal damage.
- Third encounter: The main dual boss fight triggered by the wind fan. Survive five to six turns using ACTs and healing. Aqua eventually goes rogue and leaves, then Seth calls her back to end the fight.
- Seth’s homing bombs in the third fight: stand in the corner to bait them, then dodge away at the last second.
- The fight ends on its own. You do not need to deplete their HP to win on the pacifist route.

Who Are Aqua and Seth?
Aqua and Seth are two of Asgore’s flowers, a group of Darkners that includes Flowery, Yellow, Blue, Orange, and Green. They act as recurring antagonists across the Flower Kingdom section of Chapter 5, appearing in multiple fights rather than one standalone encounter.
Aqua is a light blue humanoid Darkner with long black hair, a dress, and a heart-shaped ribbon. Her whole fighting style revolves around a large swarm of floating knives she spins around the arena. Her dialogue runs in cyan text and her personality is chaotic and playful — she frequently ignores Seth’s instructions and does whatever she feels like.
Seth is a purple Darkner with glasses and maroon hair who always carries a book. Seth is the brains of the pairing — analytical, studious, and easily frustrated by Aqua’s unpredictability. In combat, Seth backs up Aqua’s attacks with homing bombs and book-based projectiles. Their weapon of choice is information and planning rather than raw power.
First Encounter — Aqua Alone (Petal Feather Fight)
The first time you fight Aqua is right after finding her through the rock structure near the torii gate, past the second watering can in the Garden area. This fight locks you to Kris only. Susie and Ralsei are not present. You cannot rely on their combination ACTs here, so the route to victory is pure mercy.
How to Win
Open the ACT menu and use each of the five available ACTs on Aqua one at a time. The five options are Check, Spin, TakeCare, Pose, and Dance. Each one raises Aqua’s Mercy meter by 20%. Use all five in any order and her meter fills completely to 100%.
When her Mercy hits 100%, Aqua triggers an Omega Attack styled after the Patience SOUL pattern from Undertale’s Omega Flowey fight. This is the final hurdle. Stay calm, hold your position, and dodge through the pattern. Do not panic and over-correct. Small movements work better than dragging your soul across the entire box.
Survive the Omega Attack and the encounter resolves. Aqua hands over the path to the Petal Feather, which you collect from the shrine at the end of the linear path forward.
Dodging Aqua’s Knife Attacks
Aqua sends spinning knives across the arena in fan-shaped patterns. The key rule for all of her knife attacks is to move toward where the attack starts rather than away from it. Knives fan outward from a single point. If you can slip past the first blade and get to where it launched from, the rest of the fan passes around you. Avoid overreacting to any single blade. Small, deliberate movements beat large panicked ones every time.
Second Encounter — Seth’s Bullet Pattern (Giant Glasses)
After collecting the Petal Feather and using it through the Cliffs area, you eventually reach a wind geyser. Activating it with your ACT launches the entire party upward — along with Seth and Aqua — and a battle begins. This fight is specifically Seth’s Bullet Pattern, a giant pair of eyeglasses that rains swords down on the arena.
How to Beat Seth’s Glasses
Do not attack randomly. Raw damage does nothing useful here. The sequence is specific.
- Use ACT on the center of the glasses first.
- Then target one of the handles with your ACT. Ralsei will latch onto the handle, tilting the glasses toward Kris.
- With Ralsei holding the spectacles down, hit the center to deal damage.
- Repeat the same method for the other handle, then hit the center again.
- Keep cycling this pattern until the glasses break completely.
If the swords pass through the lenses of the glasses during an attack, they double in number. Avoid letting them go through the lens by staying mobile and not standing directly in the path of the beam. After the glasses shatter, Seth and Aqua explain more about their intentions. The fight ends and the path continues to the Cliffs shop and stairs.

Third Encounter — The Main Dual Boss Fight
The main Aqua and Seth fight happens after you enter the wind geyser room inside the plant traversal section just before the Flower Castle. Use ACT on the fan at the top of the room to activate it. The fan launches the party upward along with Seth and Aqua, and the battle begins immediately when they land.
This is the most involved of the three encounters, but it is fundamentally a survival fight. You do not need to defeat either character. The battle ends on its own after enough turns pass. Your only job is to stay alive and use ACTs on your turns.
How the Fight Progresses
After you use an ACT at the start, Seth and Aqua attack using the pattern that gave you the most trouble in the earlier Aqua encounter. For many players this is the knife fan attack, where knives are thrown into the arena and split into three separate blades firing in different directions. Seth also adds homing bombs that target your heart on top of Aqua’s knives, making the phase more hectic than the earlier fight.
On her second or third turn, Aqua unveils her secret weapon — she throws a single small rubber duck. It moves slowly. It does only 1 damage if it hits you. Seth believes this means the attack is extremely powerful and wants Aqua to keep using it. Enjoy the moment.
Every time your turn comes, use an ACT on either character. Seth throws away any Mercy built through flattery. It does not matter. Keep using ACTs anyway. After four turns of the same attacks, Aqua gets bored with fighting the same people using the same moves and goes completely rogue. She abandons the plan entirely and launches one of her own. Seth is furious and Aqua runs away on her own terms.

Seth Alone — Final Phase
With Aqua gone, Seth is left to fight alone. Their attack pattern changes. Seth’s ultimate attack rotates the heart box and fires words from his book that fly in from either side of the screen. Dodge the words by weaving between them. Seth does this twice. The rotation speed increases on the second cycle until Seth gets dizzy.
Keep using ACTs on your turns. Seth eventually realizes they cannot win and calls Aqua back — not to rejoin the fight, but to help them escape. Aqua returns, scoops Seth up, and the two leave. The battle ends.
Dodging Seth’s Homing Bombs
Seth’s bombs track your heart position and home in on wherever you are standing. The best way to handle them is to stand still in a corner of the box to bait the bomb toward you, then dash away at the last second. The bomb locks onto the corner position and you slip out just before it arrives. Do this while also keeping track of Aqua’s knives crossing the arena at the same time. Focus on one threat at a time where possible. The knife patterns are predictable if you remember the fan rule from the first fight.
Pacifist Route Tips for All Three Fights
- The third fight ends itself after five to six turns regardless of what you do. If you are struggling to survive, spend your turns healing instead of using ACTs. Staying alive is more important than building Mercy here because the fight has a built-in timer.
- FlatterX raises Seth’s Mercy by 50% in the paired encounter, but Seth grabs the notification and throws it away. Keep using it anyway on turns when you need to fill the Mercy gauge for other purposes.
- PoseX raises Aqua’s Mercy by 20% during the dual fight, though Seth will nullify it in the early turns. It still counts once Aqua goes rogue and fights separately.
- Ralsei’s healing is your main recovery tool. Do not be afraid to spend a full turn healing the party if your HP is getting low. Taking damage just lengthens the fight slightly — it never makes the fight unwinnable.
- For Seth’s glasses fight, never break the center-handle-center-handle pattern. Attacking randomly wastes turns and drags the fight out without dealing meaningful damage.
What Happens After You Beat Aqua and Seth
After the third encounter ends, the path to the Flower Castle opens. Seth and Aqua continue appearing in the chapter — they end up trapped in jail alongside the party later on, which leads to one of the funnier scenes in the chapter. Aqua befriends Susie almost immediately, and when Seth tries to leave the jail they accidentally get locked inside instead while the party escapes.
Aqua’s knives also reappear as a hazard during the platforming sections in the Cliffs area. These are not boss fights but overworld obstacles. The same movement rule applies — stay calm, move in small adjustments, and dodge toward where each pattern starts rather than away from it.
