What Is the Hellion Aspect in Destiny 2?

Hellion is a Solar Aspect exclusive to the Warlock class in Destiny 2. It was introduced alongside The Final Shape expansion and is available for both Solar Dawnblade and Prismatic Warlock subclasses.

When you activate your class ability, Hellion summons a floating Solar companion — a small mortar-like portal that follows you around and automatically launches explosive fireballs at nearby enemies. Each projectile applies Scorch stacks, and enough Scorch buildup on a target triggers an Ignition, which is a large burst of Solar damage. The companion lasts around 20 seconds and its damage scales with your Grenade stat.

Think of it like the Arc Soul Aspect, but Solar. It fires on its own, works while you do other things, and lets you build around constant ability uptime rather than relying on airborne mechanics. This has made it a very popular pick for Solar Warlocks who want an aggressive, ability-driven style without staying in the air.

Requirements to Get the Hellion Aspect

Before you go looking for this Aspect, make sure you meet the requirements:

Own The Final Shape expansion — Hellion is locked behind this DLC. You cannot get it on the base game.
Play as a Warlock — this Aspect is class-specific. Titans and Hunters cannot use it.
Progress through The Final Shape campaign — specifically to the fourth main mission, called Requiem.

How to Get the Hellion Aspect in Destiny 2

Hellion is found inside a Prismatic Chest during the Requiem mission, which is the fourth main story mission in The Final Shape campaign. The chest sits directly on the main path, so you will encounter it naturally during normal campaign progression.

Step 1 – Start the Requiem Mission

Play through The Final Shape campaign in order. Once you complete the first three missions, Requiem becomes available. Launch it from the Pale Heart of the Traveler destination.

Step 2 – Reach the Fallen Cave Encounter

Continue through the mission until you enter a large cave filled with Fallen enemies. This is a major encounter where you need to defeat enemies called Warders and then step on the correct symbols near a barrier in the middle of the cave. Matching the right symbols opens the barrier and lets you proceed.

Step 3 – Kill the Tormentor

After clearing the Fallen and activating the correct symbols, a Tormentor will spawn and tripwire mines will fill the cave. You need to kill this Tormentor to unlock the path forward. It goes down fast with high-precision damage weapons — Linear Fusion Rifles, Machine Guns, and similar options work well here.

Step 4 – Open the Prismatic Chest

Once the Tormentor is dead, the way forward opens. The Prismatic Chest containing the Hellion Aspect is directly ahead, sitting on the path in the area called The Seclusion. It is in the middle of the route leading to the mission’s final area. You cannot walk past it without seeing it.

Open the chest and Hellion is automatically added to your Warlock’s Aspect collection.

Step 5 – Equip Hellion

After unlocking it, go to your Character screen, select your Solar or Prismatic subclass, and navigate to the Aspect slot. Choose Hellion and confirm. From that point on, using your class ability will summon the Solar companion.

What If You Missed the Hellion Chest?

If you finished The Final Shape campaign and still do not have Hellion, you can replay the Requiem mission at any time. Here is how:

Open the Destinations screen and select the Pale Heart of the Traveler.
In the middle of the map, you will see Normal Campaign and Legendary Campaign nodes.
Select either one and choose the Requiem mission to replay it.
Progress through until you reach the Seclusion area and open the Prismatic Chest.

Some players who rushed through the campaign or switched characters may have missed the chest. Replaying on Normal difficulty is the fastest way to go back and get it.

Best Solar Warlock Build with Hellion

Hellion works best in builds that can trigger the class ability frequently. On Solar Warlock, Phoenix Dive has a much shorter cooldown than a standard Rift, which makes it the better class ability choice when running Hellion — you can resummon the companion more often and keep constant pressure on enemies.
