What Is the Empty Display Stands Quest in Genshin Impact?
The Empty Display Stands quest — officially part of the Limits and Demonstrations challenge — is one of the hidden puzzles inside the House of Hesperides Mountain Mansion in Snezhnaya. It is found on the third floor of the mansion and involves a display room with three empty pedestals, each marked with a themed Sign. Your job is to figure out which Prime Ice Construct belongs at each stand and build it in the right spot.
Getting this right rewards you with an Exquisite Chest and unlocks a hidden section of the room. This is one of more than fifteen challenges tucked inside the mansion, and completing all of them reveals every Collectible Painting in the building. If you are working through all of the mansion’s puzzles, check out our full House of Hesperides Challenges Guide for a complete walkthrough of every room.
How to Unlock the House of Hesperides
Before you can reach the Empty Display Stands room, you need access to the mansion itself. The House of Hesperides is located in Fellfrost Peak, the eastern region of Snezhnaya, and it is not open by default. Here is what you need to do first:
- Complete Archon Quest Prologue: Act III – Song of the Dragon and Freedom to enter Snezhnaya and receive the Eye of Graeae gadget.
- Progress through Archon Quest Chapter VII: Act I – Everwinter Without Mercy and complete Gunfire in the Silent Lands to unlock Snezhnayan world quests.
- Start and progress through the Hesperides of Love and Hate world quest chain until you receive the Invitation to the “Ritual.”
- Use the Invitation to enter the mansion and unlock the House of Hesperides Main Floor teleport waypoint in Fellfrost Peak.
Once inside, the Empty Display Stands room is located on the third floor. You will need to pass through the Main Floor and second floor first. Use the Eye of Graeae to open the mansion’s floor map and track which floors and challenges you have completed.
If you are new to Snezhnaya’s Prime Ice Construct system, other quests in the area use the same mechanic. The Hide-and-Seek Jack Frosts Quest and the Locked Door Quest are good starting points before you tackle the third floor.
What Are Prime Ice Constructs?
Prime Ice Constructs are the core building mechanic of Snezhnaya. Using Kresnik Energy stored in your Eye of Graeae gadget, you can place physical objects anywhere in the world — or inside the mansion — to solve puzzles, reach heights, or complete challenges.
The constructs relevant to this quest are:
- Grappling Gun: Places a hook that you can fire at to pull or destroy objects nearby.
- Launching Platform: A pad that launches you upward to reach higher ground.
- Basic Heat Source: Provides warmth that can melt ice or activate cold-sensitive mechanics in the area.
Each of these must be built by opening the Prime Ice Construct menu while standing near the correct display stand. Building costs Kresnik Energy, so make sure your Eye of Graeae is charged before heading up to the third floor. Refill it from Mini Kresnik Torches or break Kresnik Kristall Ores scattered outside the mansion before entering.

How to Solve the Empty Display Stands Quest
When you reach the display room on the third floor, you will see three empty stands arranged in the space. Each one has a Sign placed nearby that describes its theme. Read the Sign at each stand, then open your Prime Ice Construct menu and build the matching gadget directly next to it.
Here is the exact solution for all three stands:
Stand 1 – Sign of Friendship
The first stand is marked with the Sign of Friendship. Build a Grappling Gun Prime Ice Construct at this stand.
The Grappling Gun represents connection and reach — the idea of pulling things closer and building bonds. Place it directly next to the Sign of Friendship’s pedestal and the stand will register it as correct.
Stand 2 – Sign of Motion
The second stand is marked with the Sign of Motion. Build a Launching Platform Prime Ice Construct at this stand.
The Launching Platform represents forward momentum and movement — perfectly matching the theme of motion. Place it next to the Sign of Motion’s empty pedestal to satisfy the requirement.
Stand 3 – Sign of Spring
The third stand is marked with the Sign of Spring. Build a Basic Heat Source Prime Ice Construct at this stand.
The Basic Heat Source represents warmth and the thawing of winter into spring. Place it next to the Sign of Spring’s pedestal to complete the final stand.

Reward: Exquisite Chest and Hidden Room
Once all three constructs are placed at the correct stands, the challenge completes. You receive an Exquisite Chest as your reward, which can contain Primogems, Intricately Patterned Buttons, and other materials.
A hidden section of the display room also opens up after the chest spawns. Explore this area to check for any additional collectibles or Collectible Paintings that may have become visible after completing the challenge.
The challenge also updates to Completed on the House of Hesperides map in your Eye of Graeae, so you can confirm your progress and move on to the remaining puzzles.
Where to Spend Your Intricately Patterned Buttons
If your Exquisite Chest drops Intricately Patterned Buttons, hold onto them. These are a special currency collected from chests across the House of Hesperides and the surrounding Snezhnayan area. They are spent at the Jack Frosts’ Goodies Shop in Jack Frost Village, which unlocks after completing the Small Jack Frost, Big Problems world quest.
Items available from the shop include:
- A Touch of Frost in Scorching Summer! — a limited weapon skin
- Construct Appearance: Jack Frost — a cosmetic for your Prime Ice Constructs
- Various Snezhnayan level-up materials and collectibles
The more mansion challenges you complete, the more buttons you collect — so it is worth clearing every room.
Tips for the Empty Display Stands Quest
- Stock up on Kresnik Energy before entering. You need enough energy to build three separate constructs. If you are running low, step outside the mansion and break Kresnik Kristall Ores or use Mini Kresnik Torches nearby to refill your Eye of Graeae before heading up to the third floor.
- Read each Sign before building. The Signs describe their themes in short phrases. Taking a second to read them helps confirm you are placing the right construct and avoids wasted energy on a wrong build.
- Build directly beside the pedestal. The game checks whether your construct is close enough to the stand to count. Place the gadget right next to the empty pedestal — not across the room or at a distance.
- The order does not matter. You can solve any of the three stands in any sequence. There is no penalty for doing them out of order, so start with whichever stand is closest to you.
- Explore the hidden room after it opens. Once the chest spawns and the hidden section unlocks, walk through the newly opened area. Some players miss extra items or Collectible Painting spots that only appear after the room opens.
- Check the Eye of Graeae map. After completing this challenge, open your map to see which other third floor challenges still show as incomplete. The Mischievious Jack Frost challenge is also on the same floor and can be cleared in the same visit.
Other House of Hesperides Challenges on the Third Floor
While you are on the third floor completing the Empty Display Stands quest, you can also tackle the Mischievious Jack Frost challenge in the same area. This Jack Frost disguises itself as a Prime Ice Construct above a table. Dismantle the decoy to expose it, then chase it and dismantle its decoy a second time to catch it and earn a Common chest. Clearing both third floor challenges in a single visit saves you the trip back.
