Jack Frost Train Puzzle Location In Genshin Impact

jack frost train puzzle location in genshin impact

The puzzle is found in the frozen icefields between Hunter’s Cabin and Rankova Zorya station in Snezhnaya’s Everfrozen Earth zone. There are two easy ways to reach it:

    • From Hunter’s Cabin: Teleport to the waypoint north of Hunter’s Cabin, then move northeast toward the Rankova Zorya train station. You will spot a wreckage of train cars along the way. That is your destination.
    • From the Chimeric Winged Lion boss: Teleport to the Chimeric Winged Lion boss waypoint, then walk west toward the train wreckage.

Once you arrive at the wreckage, look for a Jack Frost with a dialogue prompt. This is the Separated Jack Frost — the one who calls for your help. Talk to it to learn that three of its friends panicked and ran into the wrecked train cars after a Volkodlak attack, and now they are hiding inside with the doors shut. You need to get in and calm them down.

How to Unlock the Link Mechanism

Before you can solve this puzzle, you need the Eye of Graeae and the ability to build Prime Ice Constructs. The Eye of Graeae is given to you automatically when you first arrive in Snezhnaya. Once you have it, you can access the Prime Ice Construct build menu by pressing the exploration interaction button while the gadget is equipped.

The Link Mechanism is one of nine Prime Ice Constructs available in Version 7.0. It creates a portal-style connection between two points, letting you teleport from one Link Mechanism to another instantly. This is exactly how you get inside the locked train cars — by placing one Link Mechanism outside and connecting it to the one that is already inside the train.

Make sure you have enough Kresnik Energy stored in your Eye of Graeae to place the constructs. Refill it by standing near Mini Kresnik Torches or by breaking Kresnik Kristall Ores scattered throughout Snezhnaya. If your energy is depleted, you cannot build constructs.

    The General Strategy

Each of the three Panicked Jack Frosts is hiding inside a different wrecked train car. The train doors are shut and the Jack Frosts will not open them for you from the outside. The only way in is by using the Link Mechanism to teleport through the wall into the interior of each train.

Place a Link Mechanism right in front of or against the train car. It needs to connect with the Link Mechanism that is already placed inside the car. Once the two Link Mechanisms link up, enter the portal. You will appear inside the train. Then simply exit the Link Mechanism while inside the train — this signals to the Panicked Jack Frost that it is safe outside, and it will calm down and come out.

Do Jack Frosts #1 and #2 first. Ignore the upper one on the cliff for now. The third requires a special step.

    Panicked Jack Frost #1

Approach the first wrecked train car near the Separated Jack Frost. Open your Prime Ice Construct menu and build a Link Mechanism directly in front of the train. Make sure it lines up and connects with the Link Mechanism already inside the train — you will see the connection form.

Once connected, enter the Link Mechanism to teleport inside the car. Now exit the Link Mechanism while you are inside the train. The Panicked Jack Frost will realize you are there and understand it is safe. It calms down and leaves the car. Before you go, open the Remarkable Chest that appears inside the train.

    Panicked Jack Frost #2

Move to the second wrecked train car. Repeat the same process — open the Prime Ice Construct menu, place a Link Mechanism that connects with the one inside the second car, enter the portal, and exit once you are inside. The second Panicked Jack Frost calms down.

There is a Common Chest inside the second train. Claim it before leaving.

Panicked Jack Frost #3 – The One on the Cliff

The third Panicked Jack Frost is hiding in a train car on a cliff above the other two. A standard Link Mechanism cannot reach it because it is too high up. You need an upgraded Link Mechanism powered by a Polestar Field to teleport up to the elevated train.

Here is how to get the Polestar Field:

    • Natural trigger: After you rescue the first two Panicked Jack Frosts, the Separated Jack Frost will automatically trigger a Polestar Field. Go back to it and wait for this to happen. The Polestar Field enhances your Link Mechanism so it can reach higher distances.
    • If enemies are nearby: There are enemies underneath the third train car on the cliff. You can trigger a Stellar-Conduct reaction on them to create a Polestar Field yourself. Use a Cryo character and an Electro character together to fire off the reaction. This creates the field without needing to wait for the Separated Jack Frost to do it.
    • If you already beat the enemies: Just rescue the first two Jack Frosts first, then return to the Separated Jack Frost and wait for it to trigger the Polestar Field naturally.

Once the Polestar Field is active, place the enhanced Link Mechanism so it connects with the one inside the upper train. Enter the portal and exit it once inside the elevated car. The third Panicked Jack Frost calms down. Claim the Exquisite Chest inside the car before you leave.

    Collect the Final Precious Chest

After rescuing all three Panicked Jack Frosts, go back to the middle area of the wreckage — near where the Separated Jack Frost was standing. A Precious Chest will have spawned on the ground. Interact with it to collect your final reward and complete the puzzle.

All Chest Rewards From the Jack Frost Train Puzzle

Here is a full summary of every chest you can claim by completing this puzzle:

    • Remarkable Chest – inside the first Panicked Jack Frost’s train car
    • Common Chest – inside the second Panicked Jack Frost’s train car
    • Exquisite Chest – inside the third Panicked Jack Frost’s elevated train car
    • Precious Chest – spawns in the middle area after all three Jack Frosts are rescued

Chests in Snezhnaya can contain Primogems, Mora, Hero’s Wit, Mystic Enhancement Ore, and region-specific materials. The Precious Chest in particular has a chance to contain higher-value rewards including character upgrade materials.

    What Are Prime Ice Constructs?

Prime Ice Constructs are Snezhnaya’s signature exploration mechanic, introduced in Version 7.0. You build them using Kresnik Energy stored in the Eye of Graeae gadget. There are nine types of constructs total, each with a specific function. They appear in other players’ worlds and other players’ constructs can appear in yours — making them a cooperative and social exploration feature.

For the Jack Frost Train Puzzle, only one construct type matters: the Link Mechanism. Here is a quick rundown of all nine constructs for context:

    • Cube – raises objects, blocks movement, lets you reach high places
    • Basic Heat Source – provides warmth that can melt certain ice
    • Link Mechanism – connects two points for instant travel between them
    • Grappling Gun – lets you grapple to hooks to pull or destroy objects
    • Launching Platform – launches you upward to higher ground
    • Storage Device – stores or retrieves items even across players
    • Ambient Bollard – provides various exploration buffs
    • Sign: Icon – leaves a visual marker for other players
    • Sign: Text – leaves a text message for other players

You can manage, remove, or disable sharing of your constructs at any time. Open your map and press the Manage Prime Ice Constructs toggle at the bottom of the screen to remove individual constructs or mass-delete everything in the current scene.

What Is the Polestar Field and How Does It Work?

The Polestar Field is a special energy zone created by the Stellar-Conduct elemental reaction. Stellar-Conduct triggers when you combine Cryo and Electro elements on enemies — the Cryo Traveler plus an Electro character like Raiden Shogun or Fischl makes this easy to set up.

When a Polestar Field is active in the area, it enhances your Link Mechanism’s range and reach. This is what allows you to connect with the train car on the cliff that would otherwise be too far above for the standard construct to link to. The Polestar Field is one of Snezhnaya’s signature mechanics and appears in several other puzzles and world quests across the region.

Tips for Solving the Jack Frost Train Puzzle Faster

Do Panicked Jack Frosts #1 and #2 First, Always

The third Jack Frost cannot be reached until the Polestar Field is active. Attempting the upper train first wastes time. Go straight to the lower two cars, rescue those Jack Frosts, then return to the Separated Jack Frost to trigger the field or create your own with a Stellar-Conduct reaction.

    Keep Your Kresnik Energy Full

You need Kresnik Energy to build Link Mechanisms. If your Eye of Graeae is running low, stand near a Mini Kresnik Torch to refill before attempting the puzzle. You will need to build at least three Link Mechanisms, so having a full gauge helps you work through the puzzle smoothly without interruptions.

Bring a Cryo and Electro Character

If there are still enemies underneath the third train car’s cliff, you can trigger Stellar-Conduct on them to create your own Polestar Field immediately rather than waiting. A team with Kaedehara Kazuha or the Cryo Traveler plus Raiden Shogun makes this instant.

    Exit the Link Mechanism Correctly

The key step in each train car is to exit the Link Mechanism while you are standing inside the train — not just entering and leaving immediately. Make sure you are fully inside the car before you exit the construct. The Jack Frost needs to register your presence inside its hiding spot to calm down.

Check for the Precious Chest After All Three

Players sometimes miss the final Precious Chest because it spawns back in the central area after all three Jack Frosts are rescued. Do not leave the area immediately after the third one. Walk back to the middle of the wreckage site to find it.

    About the Snezhnaya Train System

Snezhnaya’s railway network is the backbone of transportation across the region. The train’s route passes through Snezhnaya’s main stations, including Sretomorozk, Svetloledkova, Rankova Zorya Station, Snezhnograd (Central Station), and Morepesok. You can ride NPC-operated trains by waiting at station pickets, or summon your own personal train using the Eye of Graeae from anywhere along the tracks.

The personal train is more than just transport. Travelers can use it to call a train and travel between cities, craft items or claim Daily Commission rewards while aboard, and create various Prime Ice Constructs to assist with exploration and adventuring. It serves as the Traveler’s mobile base of operations throughout Snezhnaya.

The Jack Frost Train Puzzle takes place at a wrecked section of the rail line — a site that tells its own little story about what can happen in Snezhnaya’s dangerous frozen wilderness when a Volkodlak attacks unprepared travelers.
