Final Fantasy Resonance How to Find and Beat Sephiroth 3
    • Sephiroth is a secret optional boss found in Whirlpool Hollow in the Kingdom of Grandshelt.
    • You need the airship from Chapter 5 to reach him.
    • Recommended party level is 50+, even though he’s listed as Level 45.
    • He has 250,000 HP and three phases — each one changes his weaknesses and attacks.
    • Beating him rewards you with the Sephiroth Vision, one of the best Visions in the game.
    • Never use Dark attacks in Phase 3 — he absorbs them and heals.

Sephiroth isn’t tied to the main story. He’s sitting in a hidden spot on the map, waiting for you to find him. Most players don’t even know he’s there until someone mentions it. And unlike most bosses in the game, you can’t just grind your way past him — this fight requires a plan.

This guide covers exactly where to find Sephiroth in Final Fantasy Resonance, when to fight him, how to get through all three phases, and what you get for winning.

Where to Find Sephiroth in Final Fantasy Resonance

Final Fantasy Resonance How to Find and Beat Sephiroth

Sephiroth is located in a hidden area called Whirlpool Hollow, found in the Kingdom of Grandshelt. You can spot it as a whirlpool in the water just north of the large bridge leading into the Grandshelt desert — near the Village of Kol.

To access it, you need to be in Chapter 5 with the Enterprise airship unlocked. Fly over Grandshelt and hover over the whirlpool. The game will prompt you to land and enter Whirlpool Hollow.

Inside, you’ll find what looks like a Vision Crystal Sanctum. Approach it and a voice will warn you — to claim this Vision, you have to beat the one inside. Agree to start the fight.

The encounter is fully optional. If your party isn’t ready, you can leave and come back later. Nothing locks you out of this fight.

    When Should You Fight Sephiroth?

The game marks Sephiroth as a Level 45 boss, but don’t let that fool you. He hits far harder than anything else at that level. Most players find him manageable around Level 50, but getting your party to Level 60 makes the fight a lot less punishing.

A good time to attempt it is during Chapter 6, once you’ve had time to build your party and gear up. Jumping in right at the start of Chapter 5 is doable, but the fight will be rough.

    Sephiroth Boss Stats

    • Level: 45
    • HP: 250,000
    • Stagger Gauge: 3,500 (drops to 1,350 when pressured)
    • Actions per turn: 2 in Phase 1, 3 in Phases 2 and 3
    • EXP: 14,500
    • Gil: 12,000
    • Drops: Magicite Cryst (unlocks Sephiroth’s third awakening)
    • Status immunities: Immune to everything — Poison, Blind, Sleep, Silence, Paralysis, Confuse, Petrify, Charm, Berserk, Instant Death

He has extremely high magic defense and no innate elemental weakness going into the fight. Status effects won’t work on him at all, so don’t waste a turn trying.

    Best Party Setup for Sephiroth

You’ll want a balanced party with elemental coverage, a healer, and someone who can add a weakness to Sephiroth during Phase 1.

    • Rain (Warrior of Light Vision) — Main tank. Absorbs hits and keeps the team alive with defensive skills.
    • Lid — Essential for this fight. Her Mechamog Scan ability forces a random elemental weakness onto Sephiroth, which is the only way to pressure him in Phase 1.
    • Fina — Healer. Use her to keep HP topped up, especially after Heartless Angel wipes everyone to 1 HP. She can also summon an Esper if the weakness lines up.
    • Lasswell or another magic attacker — Deals elemental magic damage to exploit whatever weakness Mechamog Scan adds.

Avoid stacking too many buffs — Sephiroth can strip them all at once with Nihilistic Solitude. You’ll waste turns trying to rebuff if you go all-in on that approach.

Non-elemental Espers like Odin and Bahamut are good choices here since Sephiroth changes his elemental affinities between phases. Don’t summon Carbuncle from Phase 2 onward — the buffs it applies are a prime target for Nihilistic Solitude.

See our character guides for Rain, Lasswell, Fina, and Sakura to optimize your team before the fight.

How to Beat Sephiroth: Phase-by-Phase Strategy

    Phase 1 — No Weakness (100% to 80% HP)

Sephiroth starts the fight with no elemental weakness and extremely high magic defense. He also uses a stance called Masamune in Waiting — a blue sword icon appears when it’s active. While this stance is up, he counters every physical attack with Slash. Do not use physical attacks when you see that icon.

Here’s what to do in Phase 1:

    • On your first turn, have Lid use Mechamog Scan. This adds a random elemental weakness to Sephiroth. If you get an element you can exploit easily, you’re set for the rest of the fight — the weakness sticks even when he switches phases.
    • If you don’t like the weakness it assigns, you can use Mechamog Scan again to replace it with a new random element.
    • Switch to magic attacks that match the weakness. Weakness hits pressure him, and a pressured Sephiroth has a much lower stagger gauge — 1,350 instead of 3,500.
    • Use Libra to track his current HP and status.

The goal is to chip away at his HP while getting him staggered. Don’t get greedy — keep your healer free to react if anyone drops low.

    Phase 2 — Elemental Infusion (80% to 20% HP)

When Sephiroth drops to around 200,000 HP, he becomes temporarily immune to all damage. Wait it out — once he uses One-Winged Angel, he’s vulnerable again. Use that brief window to refresh buffs or set up your next attacks.

He now acts three times per turn and enters an Elemental Infusion. He charges himself with a random element. While infused, he becomes weak to the opposite element and absorbs the element he’s infused with. The infusion wheel works like this:

    • Fire Infusion → Weak to Water
    • Ice Infusion → Weak to Fire
    • Lightning Infusion → Weak to Earth
    • Wind Infusion → Weak to Ice

The weakness from Lid’s Mechamog Scan remains active here too — so you actually have two weaknesses to exploit. Use Libra if you want to confirm the current one.

The most dangerous moment in this phase is Heartless Angel. Sephiroth drops every party member’s HP to 1 with this attack. It will almost always happen after he casts One-Winged Angel. The moment you see it, use party-wide healing immediately — Megalixirs or Mist X-Potions work well here. Don’t panic, just heal fast.

After the Infusion counter runs out, he’ll cast Heartless Angel again before switching elements. Try to push him into Phase 3 before that second Heartless Angel fires. Staying aggressive in this phase matters.

Phase 3 — Light Weakness and the Countdown (20% HP to 0)

At 50,000 HP, Sephiroth pauses and becomes invulnerable again during the transition. Then he enters his final form.

The good news: he now has a permanent weakness to Light. Switch all your elemental attackers to Light abilities and go hard.

The bad news: he absorbs Dark damage entirely in this phase. Dark attacks heal him. If anyone in your party has a Dark Resonance or Dark skills equipped, take them off before this fight — or at the very least, don’t use them in Phase 3.

He also starts his Divine Proclamation countdown. This is a 99,999 damage fixed attack that wipes your entire party if the timer hits zero. Treat it like Meteor — you need to finish him before it goes off.

Keep your healer alive above everything else. Losing your healer this close to the end is the most common way to fail. Burn every strong Light attack you have and finish the fight before the countdown ends.

    Sephiroth Weaknesses Summary

    • Phase 1: No innate weakness. Use Mechamog Scan to force one.
    • Phase 2: Weak to the element opposite to his current Infusion. Mechamog Scan weakness still applies.
    • Phase 3: Permanently weak to Light. Absorbs Dark — never use it.

    Sephiroth Vision Reward

Beat Sephiroth and you unlock him as a Vision — one of the strongest in the game. He sits in S-Tier alongside Bartz, Terra, and a handful of others.

Here’s what the Sephiroth Vision gives you:

    • Role: Attacker (Physical)
    • Resonance Attack: True Octaslash — an 8-hit physical attack
    • Mastery Rank 3: Critical Hit Rate +20%
    • Mastery Rank 9: Dark Eater passive — absorbs Dark damage and restores HP
    • Mastery Rank 9: Spirit of Sephiroth master skill — activates all of Sephiroth’s Mastery Rank abilities at once
    • Awakening 2: Auto-Bravery passive

He also drops a Magicite Cryst, which is used to unlock his third awakening — where Meteor and One-Winged Angel become available abilities. That alone is worth grinding Mastery Rank on him.

For everything you can do with Visions, see our Final Fantasy Resonance All Visions List and the Magicite Shards Awaken Visions Guide.

    Quick Tips Before You Fight

    • Always read the chest riddle or interact with the Vision Crystal first before hunting anything — activates the fight sequence.
    • Stock up on Megalixirs and Mist X-Potions before entering. Heartless Angel will drop everyone to 1 HP — you need fast full heals.
    • Bring Lid. Mechamog Scan is not optional for Phase 1. Without it, you have no way to pressure him early.
    • Save your strongest attacks for Phase 3 when he has a permanent Light weakness.
    • Don’t over-buff. Nihilistic Solitude strips all buffs instantly and wastes your turns.
    • If you’re struggling, switch to Casual difficulty. The fight is still hard even then, but it takes the edge off.

Also worth checking before you fight: our Final Fantasy Resonance All Esper Locations guide — having Odin or Bahamut ready makes Phase 2 a lot smoother. And if you need more gear, see our All Weapons List.

The game is available on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Sephiroth in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Sephiroth is in Whirlpool Hollow, a hidden area in the Kingdom of Grandshelt. Look for the whirlpool in the water just north of the large bridge near the Village of Kol. You need the Chapter 5 airship to reach it.

When can you fight Sephiroth in Final Fantasy Resonance?

As soon as you have the airship in Chapter 5. However, the recommended time to attempt the fight is during Chapter 6 when your party is around Level 50–60.

What level should you be to beat Sephiroth?

The game says Level 45, but realistically you want to be at Level 50 at minimum. Level 60 makes the fight significantly easier and more forgiving.

What is Sephiroth weak to in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Phase 1 has no innate weakness — use Lid’s Mechamog Scan to force one. Phase 2 makes him weak to the opposite of his current Infusion element. Phase 3 gives him a permanent Light weakness. Never use Dark in Phase 3 — he absorbs it.

What does Heartless Angel do in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Heartless Angel reduces every party member’s HP to 1. It happens after One-Winged Angel in Phase 2. Use a party-wide heal immediately when it goes off. Have Megalixirs or Mist X-Potions ready specifically for this moment.

Can you get Sephiroth as a Vision?

Yes. Defeating Sephiroth rewards you with the Sephiroth Vision — an S-Tier physical attacker with an 8-hit True Octaslash Resonance, strong Mastery Rank bonuses, and One-Winged Angel as an unlockable ability.

What is Divine Proclamation in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Divine Proclamation is Sephiroth’s Phase 3 countdown attack. It deals 99,999 fixed damage to your entire party when the timer hits zero — an instant game over. You need to kill him before it triggers.

Is the Sephiroth Vision worth getting?

Absolutely. Sephiroth is one of the best Visions in the game. His Resonance attack hits 8 times, his Mastery Rank bonuses include high crit rate increases and damage passives, and Spirit of Sephiroth at Rank 9 activates all of his bonuses at once. The fight is hard, but the payoff is real.

Do I need to beat the Nameless Ruins before fighting Sephiroth?

No — Sephiroth is a completely separate optional encounter. You just need the airship to reach Whirlpool Hollow. That said, getting gear and levels from Chapter 5 dungeons like the Nameless Ruins will help you prepare. Our Nameless Ruins Locked Chest Guide covers Tyr’s Armor, which is worth grabbing before this fight.
