Who Is Sakura in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Sakura is a sage from Mysidia, the floating magiapolis tied to the Ice Crystal. She appears young — almost like a child — but speaks with the wisdom of someone far older. No one in the story knows her true age, and it becomes one of the running mysteries around her character.

She is voiced by AmaLee in English and Aoi Yuki in Japanese.

In combat, Sakura is the strongest dedicated magic damage dealer in the entire game. She is rated S-tier. Her Magic stat at max level is the highest in the party, and her kit is built entirely around exploiting elemental weaknesses, buffing her own damage output, and hitting entire groups of enemies with massive AoE spells. When you need things dead fast, Sakura gets the job done.

You can find Final Fantasy Resonance on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Full game details are on the official Square Enix website.

How to Recruit Sakura in Final Fantasy Resonance

Sakura joins your party automatically during Chapter 5, in Mysidia. You cannot miss her — she is a main story party member. The game guides you to her location as part of the Chapter 5 narrative.

    Here is how it unfolds:

    • After leaving Zoldaad in Chapter 4, Rain’s party learns the next Crystal is located in Mysidia — a magiapolis that most people believe is a fairy tale.
    • Sakura appears and guides Rain to Mysidia’s hidden location above the ocean.
    • She joins the party shortly after, bringing her formidable magic power with her.
    • Later in the same chapter, Sakura uses her own magic to help the party enter Fina’s psyche.

Her substory is called Mysidia, Ever Blooming, which becomes available in Chapter 6. To trigger it, head to Mysidia, the Magiapolis, in Mysidia the Uncharted Land.

Sakura is the second-to-last party member to join. Only Archwitch Fina joins after her, also during Chapter 5.

    Sakura’s Role and Playstyle

Sakura is labeled a Commando, but do not let that mislead you. She does not fight like Rain or Lasswell. Her entire kit is built around magic damage, elemental exploitation, and self-buffing. She is a pure caster who happens to wear the Commando role badge.

She wields a Rod and wears Robes or Light Armor. Her primary elements are Lightning, Dark, and Light. With Tronn as her Vision, she also gains Fire and Ice — giving her five total elements to cover almost any enemy weakness in the game.

Her playstyle follows a clear loop:

    1. Open with Sage’s Eye to boost stagger power when hitting weaknesses.
    2. Apply Eminent Casting for extra AoE damage and stagger power on multi-target spells.
    3. Use Concentrate to double magic damage and speed for the burst window.
    4. Chain Tonitus and Blighted Gloom for AoE damage across consecutive turns.
    5. Activate Sakura’s Ultima when enemies are staggered for maximum damage.

She is very MP-hungry, especially with Eminent Casting active. Managing MP through gear and accessories is important in longer fights.

    Sakura Build

    Sakura Level 99 Stats

    • HP: 150 → 4,275
    • MP: 75 → 596
    • Strength: 18 → 349
    • Stamina: 15 → 311
    • Magic: 40 → 540 (highest in the party)
    • Spirit: 25 → 411
    • Speed: 5 → 252

Sakura has the highest Magic stat of any party member at level 99. Her HP is the lowest in the game, and her Speed is also on the slower side — which makes Concentrate’s Speed doubling especially valuable, since it actually makes her feel fast. Build entirely around Magic attack. Do not invest in Strength or Stamina. Her physical output is negligible and irrelevant to her role.

All Sakura Skills and Abilities — Full List by Level

Sakura has a large kit that covers multiple elements, AoE damage, self-buffing, and two strong Limit Bursts. Here is every ability she learns and what it does.

Level 1 — Eternal Veil (Limit Burst)

Activates a barrier on all allies that nullifies the next instance of damage taken. Costs 100% of the Limit gauge. This is a defensive Limit Burst, which is unusual for a damage dealer. It is one of the best defensive tools in the game. Use it right before a boss launches a big AoE attack to completely absorb the hit across your entire party.

    Level 1 — Sage’s Eye

When Sakura uses a magic attack that targets an enemy’s elemental weakness, her stagger power against that target increases by 50% for the next 4 turns. Costs 10 MP. This is her most important support ability and it has no downside. Use it at the start of every fight before your offensive rotation. It turns her already-strong spells into stagger-building machines. Her Wizard’s Rod+ reinforces this with a 30% bonus to elemental weakness damage as well — the two stack for devastating results.

    Level 3 — Thunder

A Black Magic Lightning spell that deals Lightning magic damage to a single enemy. Costs 5 MP, stagger power 17. Her early-game single-target Lightning tool before Thundara and Thundaga come online.

    Level 6 — Rampant Elements

Deals random elemental magic damage (excluding Light and Dark) to random enemies 3 times. Costs 5 MP. The randomness makes it unreliable for targeting specific weaknesses, but it is useful in the early game when you need coverage and cannot predict what the enemy is weak to. It can also hit multiple enemies, making it situationally useful for clearing groups.

    Level 9 — Magicide

Removes all buffs from a single enemy. Costs 7 MP. Enemies that buff themselves during fights can become significantly harder to deal with. Magicide strips those buffs instantly. It is a niche ability but very powerful in specific boss encounters where the enemy’s self-buffs pose a real threat.

    Level 13 — Stygian Scythe

Deals Dark magic damage to a single enemy. Costs 13 MP, modifier 27, stagger 33. Her single-target Dark spell for exploiting Dark weaknesses. Pairs well with Sage’s Eye when you know an enemy is weak to Dark. The modifier is strong, making it a solid filler spell when Tonitus and Blighted Gloom are overkill against single targets.

    Level 16 — Thundara

A Black Magic upgrade to Thunder. Deals stronger Lightning magic damage to a single enemy. Costs 15 MP. Use this over Thunder once you have it. Better damage output for a single-target Lightning hit.

    Level 19 — Luminant Glim

Deals Light magic damage to all enemies. Power scales with Spirit stat. Costs 32 MP. Her only AoE Light spell. Luminant Glim is useful when enemies are weak to Light, and it covers the element gap between her Lightning and Dark spells. Spirit-scaling means her Spirit stat is not completely wasted, but do not build around it — Magic is still the priority.

    Level 22 — Eminent Casting

Increases Sakura’s multi-target magic attack damage and stagger power by 50% for 3 turns. The downside: MP cost of magic spells increases by 50% while active. Costs 20 MP to activate. This is her AoE power boost. When you use Tonitus, Blighted Gloom, or Luminant Glim while Eminent Casting is active, they hit 50% harder and build 50% more stagger. The MP cost increase is real — pair this with the Gold Hairpin or Omega Badge to keep it affordable. Use it right before your Tonitus or Blighted Gloom turns for the biggest damage window.

    Level 26 — Thundaga

Her strongest single-target Lightning Black Magic spell. Deals high Lightning magic damage. Use this for single-target Lightning hits in the mid and late game.

    Level 30 — Tonitus

Deals Lightning magic damage to all enemies with a chance to inflict Paralysis. Costs 65 MP, modifier 58, stagger power 30. This is Sakura’s signature ability and one of her most-used spells. It hits every enemy on the field with strong Lightning damage, and the Paralysis chance can completely lock down an enemy for a turn. Paralysed enemies cannot act, which can save your party from incoming attacks. Use it with Eminent Casting active for the maximum effect.

    Level 35 — Sakura’s Ultima (Limit Burst 2)

Deals non-elemental magic damage to all enemies. Stagger power 55. Costs 200% of the Limit gauge. This is the single strongest Limit Burst in Sakura’s kit and one of the most powerful abilities in the entire game. The stagger power of 55 is higher than almost anything else in Final Fantasy Resonance. It ignores elemental resistances entirely since it is non-elemental, so it deals full damage to any enemy regardless of their weaknesses or resistances. Fire it into a staggered enemy for catastrophic numbers.

    Level 35 — Blighted Gloom

Deals Dark magic damage to all enemies and decreases their magic defense. Costs 75 MP, modifier 65, stagger power 35. Blighted Gloom does two jobs at once. It hits hard and it lowers every enemy’s magic defense, which means all subsequent magic attacks from your entire party — not just Sakura — deal more damage. Use it early in a multi-target fight. The magic defense reduction stays on the enemies and the whole party benefits.

    Level 39 — Concentrate

Doubles Sakura’s magic attack damage and Speed for 3 turns. Costs 35 MP. This is her most important self-buff and one of the most impactful abilities in the game. A 100% increase to magic damage for three full turns is enormous. Combined with Eminent Casting, Sage’s Eye, and her naturally high Magic stat, Concentrate turns Sakura into an absolute damage machine. Always use it before your main offensive rotation in tough fights. The Speed boost also helps her act more frequently within the turn order, which compounds the damage even further.

    Level 51 — Flare

Deals powerful non-elemental magic damage to a single enemy. A classic Final Fantasy spell that ignores elemental resistances. Useful in late-game situations where enemies have elemental immunities and you need reliable single-target damage.

    Level 56 — Meteor

Deals massive non-elemental magic damage to all enemies. One of the iconic high-tier Final Fantasy spells. Like Flare, it bypasses elemental resistances, making it a strong tool against any enemy in the endgame. Costly in MP, but the damage output at this level is exceptional.

Sakura Best Build in Final Fantasy Resonance

Sakura’s build goal is simple: maximize Magic attack, cover as many elemental weaknesses as possible, and set up Concentrate and Eminent Casting before your big damage turns.

Best Vision for Sakura — Tronn

Tronn is the recommended Vision for Sakura in most situations. Sakura already handles Lightning, Dark, and Light naturally. Tronn adds Fire and Ice to the mix, which means she can cover five total elements. That covers nearly every elemental weakness in the game between her own kit and Tronn’s spells.

Tronn’s Resonance attack, Hibernal Fury, deals Ice magic damage to random enemies five times. This fits perfectly with Sakura’s magic-heavy playstyle and contributes strong stagger during the Resonance burst window.

    Alternative Vision — Terra

Terra is an excellent alternative when you want to push Sakura’s raw magic damage even higher. Terra provides access to Ultima and several passive abilities that directly increase magic damage output. If you want Sakura focused purely on offensive power rather than elemental breadth, Terra is the pick. The passive Magic Damage boosts stack with Sakura’s own Concentrate and Eminent Casting for devastating results.

    Alternative Vision — Onion Knight

Onion Knight increases both Limit Burst gauge gain and magic damage through passive skills. This is a strong pick if you want to fire Sakura’s Ultima more frequently. Faster gauge buildup means more uses of that stagger power 55 Limit Burst across a dungeon run.

    Alternative Vision — Shantotto

Shantotto provides non-elemental magic spells that sit outside Sakura’s normal Lightning, Dark, and Light range. If your party already has other characters covering elemental weaknesses and you want Sakura focused on raw non-elemental burst, Shantotto is a viable option.

    Best Abilities to Equip

These are Sakura’s must-have abilities in priority order:

    • Sage’s Eye — Always active. More stagger power on weakness hits.
    • Concentrate — Activate before every major offensive turn.
    • Tonitus — Main AoE damage and Paralysis tool.
    • Blighted Gloom — AoE Dark damage plus magic defense reduction for the whole party.
    • Eminent Casting — Use before Tonitus and Blighted Gloom for 50% more AoE damage.

For remaining slots, fill with passive abilities that boost Magic damage, increase MP recovery, or raise Stagger power.

For more on how Visions rank across the entire roster, see the Best Visions Tier List and the All Visions List.

Best Gear and Accessories for Sakura

    Best Weapon — Wizard’s Rod+

The Wizard’s Rod+ is Sakura’s best-in-slot weapon. At 227 Magic Attack, it is the highest Magic Attack rod in the game. Crucially, it also increases damage by 30% when attacking an enemy’s elemental weakness, and adds a 20% chance to evade magic attacks. It also raises the damage cap to 99,999. This weapon is a perfect match for Sage’s Eye — the weakness damage bonus stacks with her stagger boost for extraordinary burst.

    Best Accessory — Moonlight Ring

The Moonlight Ring increases all magic attack damage by 10%. It is affordable at 1,000 Gil and benefits every single spell in Sakura’s kit. A clean, passive damage boost with no trade-off.

    Alternative Accessory — Gold Hairpin

The Gold Hairpin halves Sakura’s MP cost. This is especially valuable when Eminent Casting is active, since that ability already raises magic MP costs by 50%. The Gold Hairpin effectively offsets that penalty and lets Sakura sustain her offensive output in longer fights and dungeons without burning through Ethers.

    Armor

Sakura can wear Robes and Light Armor. Prioritize Robes with high Magic Attack and Magic Defense. Her HP is the lowest in the party, so armor that boosts survivability is worth considering in harder content — especially since she is likely to draw aggro from enemies due to the high damage numbers she produces.

    Sakura’s Key Mechanics Explained

Sage’s Eye — How It Works

Sage’s Eye is one of Sakura’s most important tools and it costs almost nothing to use. Here is exactly how it works.

When you cast Sage’s Eye and then use a magic attack that hits an enemy’s elemental weakness, Sakura’s stagger power against that target increases by 50% for the next four turns. The effect applies from the very first weakness hit after activation.

Combined with the Wizard’s Rod+’s 30% weakness damage bonus, Sage’s Eye turns weakness exploitation into a stagger-building powerhouse. Against bosses weak to Lightning, for example: cast Sage’s Eye, then chain Thundaga, Tonitus, and Eminent Casting Tonitus for a string of weakness hits that builds stagger gauge extremely fast.

Concentrate — How to Use It

Concentrate doubles Sakura’s magic attack damage AND Speed for three full turns. Here is how to get the most out of it:

    • Activate it right before you plan to use Tonitus or Blighted Gloom.
    • Stack it with Eminent Casting for a turn where both buffs are active simultaneously — 100% more damage from Concentrate plus 50% more AoE damage from Eminent Casting stacks for enormous numbers.
    • The Speed boost means Sakura also gets to act sooner in the turn order during those three turns, giving her more total actions before the buff expires.
    • Do not waste it on basic single-target spells. Save Concentrate for the big AoE rotation.

Eminent Casting — The MP Trade-Off

Eminent Casting raises multi-target magic damage and stagger power by 50% for 3 turns. The trade-off is that all magic MP costs go up by 50% while it is active. Here is how to handle it:

    • Equip the Gold Hairpin to halve MP costs before using Eminent Casting. The halved cost roughly cancels out the 50% increase, letting you cast freely.
    • Only activate Eminent Casting when you know you are about to use Tonitus, Blighted Gloom, or Luminant Glim — all of which hit multiple targets and benefit from the boost.
    • Do not leave it running if you are doing single-target spells. The extra MP drain is wasteful when the ability only boosts multi-target magic.

    Best Party Setup with Sakura

Sakura deals magic damage and reduces enemy magic defense via Blighted Gloom. She shines in parties that capitalize on the defense reduction she provides.

    • Rain — A strong physical frontliner who handles stagger buildup and takes pressure off Sakura. Rain’s Limit Burst also protects the party defensively while Sakura focuses on offense.
    • Fina — The best healer to pair with Sakura. Fina keeps the party alive through Sakura’s heavy burst turns and covers revival if Sakura gets eliminated.
    • Nichol — Nichol’s Formation buffs and party-wide support dramatically amplify Sakura’s already high magic output. He is the best buffer in the game and the two work together beautifully.
    • Lasswell — In a stagger-focused party, Lasswell’s Breaker skills break the stagger gauge fast and Sakura’s Sakura’s Ultima fired into a stagger is one of the most damaging moves in the game.

Check out the other character guides for her best teammates: Fina Character Guide, Lasswell Character Guide, Rain Character Guide, Archwitch Fina Character Guide, and Jake Character Guide.

    Sakura Tips and Tricks

    • Always cast Sage’s Eye first. It costs 10 MP and lasts four turns. There is no reason not to open every fight with it before you start dealing damage.
    • Stack Concentrate and Eminent Casting before your AoE rotation. Both buffs active at the same time gives you 100% more single-target damage and 50% more AoE damage and stagger in the same three-turn window. This is Sakura’s damage ceiling and it is very high.
    • Blighted Gloom is a team buff in disguise. It deals Dark AoE damage AND reduces every enemy’s magic defense. Your entire party benefits from the reduced magic defense, not just Sakura. Use it early in fights so every magic spell that follows hits harder.
    • Eternal Veil is a clutch survival tool. Do not forget Sakura has a defensive Limit Burst. On fights where the boss has a devastating AoE, use Eternal Veil just before the hit to nullify it across your entire party.
    • Tonitus’s Paralysis chance is underrated. A Paralysed enemy skips their turn. In a difficult boss fight, even one missed enemy action can shift the tide. Cast Tonitus consistently and let the Paralysis chance do its work.
    • Use the Gold Hairpin when running Eminent Casting. Without it, Eminent Casting makes spells too expensive for sustained use. The hairpin keeps her MP economy manageable in longer dungeons.
    • Sakura’s Ultima into a stagger is the strongest burst in the game. Stagger power 55 on a non-elemental AoE Limit Burst hits every enemy hard. Time your Limit gauge so Sakura’s Ultima is ready when the stagger phase arrives.
    • Magicide is worth keeping for specific fights. Bosses that buff themselves, like raising their own attack or defense, become much easier if you strip those buffs immediately. Keep Magicide available even if you rarely use it.
