King Gil Snapper is one of the most rewarding enemies in Final Fantasy Resonance โ but also one of the trickier ones to deal with. It hits hard, soaks up magic damage, counters your physical moves, and will run away if you take too long. This guide covers everything you need to beat it cleanly and farm it for gil.
King Gil Snapper Location in Final Fantasy Resonance
King Gil Snapper is found on the Kingdom of Pharm world map. It starts appearing from Chapter 7 onward. You will run into it as a random encounter while exploring the Pharm overworld.
The best spot to farm King Gil Snapper is the small island you unlock after completing the optional Dragon’s Maw dungeon. One specific zone on this island โ between Dragon’s Maw to the west and Tartarosaurus Cave to the east โ cycles between Gigantaur, Metal Gigantuar, and King Gil Snapper. Roughly one in three fights will give you a King Gil Snapper. This is the most efficient farming location in the entire game.
You can also fight it in the Kingdom of Pharm overworld near the Malboro Menace Cave and Abandoned Cabin area during Chapter 7, but the island past Dragon’s Maw is far more reliable once unlocked.

King Gil Snapper Stats and Weaknesses
Here is a quick breakdown of what you are dealing with before you enter the fight:
- Level: 49
- HP (Normal): 60,000 | Casual: 36,000 | Expert: 96,000
- EXP: 1,000
- Gil: 28,000
- MRP: 182โ254 per battle
- Stagger Gauge: 1,200 (Normal)
- Weakness: Ice
- Immune: Light
- Absorbs: Fire, Wind, Earth, Lightning, Water
- Type: Aquatic
- Magic Defense: Very high
- Item Drops: Phoenix Pinion
- Steal: Small Golden Shell (common) / Large Golden Shell (rare)
This is a very specific enemy to fight. Out of all elements, only Ice works. Everything else either does nothing, gets reduced, or straight-up heals King Gil Snapper. Plan your party accordingly before entering the fight.

King Gil Snapper Attacks and Abilities
Knowing what King Gil Snapper can do helps you stay alive and fight smart. Here are the moves it uses:
- Bash โ A physical attack targeting one character. Power 12. Basic move.
- Carapace โ Another physical hit on one target. Power 18. Hits harder than Bash.
- Stonega โ Earth-type magic that hits all party members 3 times. Power 24 per hit. This one hurts everyone at once.
- Escape โ King Gil Snapper will flee the battle after a certain number of actions if you have not staggered or killed it fast enough.
- Physical Counter โ If you use a physical attack on King Gil Snapper, it will automatically counterattack you. This is one of its passive skills and it makes physical fighters almost useless here.
The Stonega attack is worth watching. It targets your whole party with three hits, so if your healers or low-HP characters are not protected, it can wipe out your back row quickly. Have Rain use Multi-Cover or keep Fina ready to heal after each Stonega cast.

How to Beat King Gil Snapper in Final Fantasy Resonance
Step 1: Only Use Ice Attacks
This is the main rule. King Gil Snapper absorbs five elements and has no weakness to anything else. Only Ice attacks deal increased damage. Using any other element will either miss the point or actively restore King Gil Snapper’s HP. Do not use Fire, Lightning, Water, Earth, or Wind skills โ ever โ in this fight.
The go-to skill here is Absolving Hailstorm, which deals Ice physical damage to all enemies. Lasswell has strong Ice attacks and can stagger the King Gil Snapper quickly. Equip Ice-based skills on as many characters as possible before entering the fight.
Step 2: Avoid Physical Attacks Completely
King Gil Snapper has a passive ability that automatically counters any physical attack. Every time you hit it with a physical move, it hits you back. This drains your HP fast and wastes turns on recovery. Stick to magic-based Ice skills only. The only exception is if you are using Rain as a tanky physical attacker with Multi-Cover to absorb counterattacks intentionally โ but even then, it is risky.
Step 3: Buff Your Magic Before Casting
King Gil Snapper has very high magic defense. Plain Ice spells will not hit as hard as you need them to. Before casting, use Faith to boost your magic attack power. This makes a big difference, especially against a 60,000 HP target with strong magic resistance.
Nichol’s Formations are also very useful here. He can buff the whole party’s offensive and defensive stats, making your Ice attacks hit harder while keeping the group alive through Stonega damage.
Step 4: Stagger It As Fast As Possible
King Gil Snapper has a stagger gauge of 1,200 on Normal difficulty. Ice attacks hit the gauge hard since they exploit its weakness. Focus all your stagger power onto King Gil Snapper as early as possible. Once it is staggered, it cannot escape, cannot counterattack, and takes increased damage.
Use Nichol’s Assail to raise the whole party’s stagger power. Lasswell can fill his stagger-related abilities to push the gauge down fast. If you want a step-by-step look at how stagger works with each character, check out the Final Fantasy Resonance Best Character Builds guide.
Step 5: Go for the Overkill Bonus
After you defeat all enemies, a bonus phase activates. Attack the fallen King Gil Snapper again in this phase to trigger the Overkill Bonus. This multiplies your Gil reward by 1.3x. On Casual Mode with lower enemy HP, this is very easy to trigger. It turns your 28,000 Gil into over 36,000 Gil per kill, which stacks up fast during farming runs.
Step 6: Steal From It During the Fight
Do not forget to steal from King Gil Snapper before finishing it off. It carries Small Golden Shells as a common steal and Large Golden Shells as a rare steal. Both items sell for good Gil on top of the battle reward. A thief-type skill or character with steal ability is worth having in your farming party just for this purpose.
Best Party Setup to Beat King Gil Snapper
You want a party that deals Ice damage fast, survives Stonega, and keeps the stagger loop going without wasting turns on physical moves or wrong elements. Here is the best setup:
Lasswell (Breaker / Main Damage Dealer)
Lasswell is your primary attacker here. He has strong Ice-based skills, a high critical hit rate, and can build stagger fast. His Ice Splitter and other Ice attacks make him almost purpose-built for King Gil Snapper. Keep him focused entirely on Ice damage and stagger skills. For a full breakdown, check the Lasswell Character Guide.
Rain (Tank / Cover Support)
Rain’s job is to soak up damage. Use Multi-Cover to protect squishier party members from Bash, Carapace, and Stonega hits. If you choose to use some controlled physical attacks, Rain can be the one to eat the counterattacks rather than your healers or mages. See the Rain Character Guide for build details.
Fina (Healer)
Fina keeps the party healthy after Stonega hits all three members. She is essential for long fights and farming runs where you need to go through many battles without restocking items. The Fina Character Guide has her best ability setup for support builds.
Nichol (Support / Buff Provider)
Nichol’s Formations boost party damage and defensive stats. His Assail ability raises stagger power for everyone, which is critical when you are trying to knock down a 1,200 stagger gauge quickly. He pairs perfectly with Lasswell’s damage output.

Best Visions and Skills to Equip for This Fight
Choosing the right Visions gives you a big edge in this fight. Here are the most useful ones to have equipped:
- Y’shtola Vision โ Her Blizzard of the Seventh Dawn Ice spells are excellent here. She also gives Staggering Spells at MR 3, which increases stagger power on Ice casts.
- Shiva (Esper) โ Include Shiva as your summoned Esper. She is an Ice-elemental Esper that fits perfectly with this fight. Check our All Esper Locations guide to find her.
- Vaan Vision (MR 9) โ Unlocks Double Gil, which doubles your post-battle Gil earnings. This is the cornerstone ability for King Gil Snapper farming.
- Vaan Vision (MR 3) โ Gives Gil Farmer on Stagger, which triggers a mid-battle steal effect the moment an enemy is staggered. Free extra Gil every time Lasswell drops the stagger gauge.
- Victoria Vision (MR 7) โ Adds MRP Gain +50%. Stack this with Gil farming to earn Mastery Rank Points alongside your Gil haul.
See the full Final Fantasy Resonance All Visions List if you want to plan your setup further.
How to Access Dragon’s Maw (Best Farming Spot)
The best place to farm King Gil Snapper is the small island reached through Dragon’s Maw. Here is how to get there:
- Dragon’s Maw is an optional dungeon located on the southern tip of the Kingdom of Pharm continent. It becomes available during Chapter 8.
- Note that you cannot escape from battles inside Dragon’s Maw. Prepare your party fully before entering.
- Fight through the dungeon, including a dragon boss early in the cave and a Magitech Weapon boss further in.
- Defeat the optional boss Intangir (weak to Light, Earth, and Dark) along the way.
- Continue through to reach the small island on the other side.
- Once on this island, every random encounter cycles between Gigantaur, Metal Gigantuar, and King Gil Snapper. Around one in three fights is a King Gil Snapper.
You can leave Dragon’s Maw at any time to heal and restock. Come back and repeat as many times as you need. This island is widely considered the best late-game farming location in Final Fantasy Resonance for both Gil and EXP.
King Gil Snapper Rewards
Here is what you get for beating King Gil Snapper:
- Gil: 28,000 base (36,000+ with Overkill Bonus)
- EXP: 1,000
- MRP: 182โ254 per battle
- Item Drop: Phoenix Pinion
- Steal (Common): Small Golden Shell (sells for extra Gil)
- Steal (Rare): Large Golden Shell (sells for significantly more)
- Achievement: “Struck Gold” โ Awarded on your first King Gil Snapper kill
If two King Gil Snappers appear in the same fight alongside a standard Gil Snapper, the combined Gil reward reaches over 41,000 Gil in a single battle. That makes it one of the best Gil sources in the entire game.
Tips for Farming King Gil Snapper Fast
If you plan to grind this enemy repeatedly for Gil, a few small adjustments make a big difference:
- Switch to Casual Mode during farming runs. King Gil Snapper’s HP drops to 36,000 on Casual, making fights much faster. You still get the full Gil reward.
- Equip the Foe Attractor item on one character. This raises encounter rates on the Pharm world map, which means more King Gil Snapper fights per minute of play.
- Unlock Double Gil on Vaan Vision at MR 9 before you start serious farming. Doubling your Gil per fight is the single biggest multiplier you can get.
- Always go for Overkill. Hit the enemy one more time in the bonus phase after it goes down. That extra 1.3x Gil stacks with Double Gil for a massive total.
- Finish while the enemy is staggered for a Stagger Finish Bonus, which gives you 1.3x MRP on top of everything else.
- Steal before you kill. Small and Large Golden Shells from the steal slots add meaningful Gil over many farming runs, so do not skip the theft step.

What is King Gil Snapper weak to in Final Fantasy Resonance?
King Gil Snapper is only weak to Ice. It absorbs Fire, Wind, Earth, Lightning, and Water, meaning those elements will heal it rather than damage it. It is also immune to Light. Use only Ice-based spells and skills in this fight.
Does King Gil Snapper counterattack physical attacks?
Yes. King Gil Snapper has a passive ability that automatically counterattacks whenever you hit it with a physical attack. Avoid physical attacks entirely and stick to Ice magic skills to prevent taking unnecessary damage.
How much Gil does King Gil Snapper drop?
King Gil Snapper drops 28,000 Gil per kill on base. With the Overkill Bonus, that rises to over 36,000 Gil. With the Vaan Vision’s Double Gil ability equipped at MR 9, the total can exceed 72,000 Gil per fight. It is the best regular Gil-farming enemy in the game.
