How Many Party Members Are in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Final Fantasy Resonance has exactly eight playable party members. You meet them in stages across the first five chapters of the story. Every single one joins automatically — there are no hidden unlock conditions, no side quests you must complete, and nothing you can permanently miss.

The catch is that you can only bring four characters into battle at a time. That makes party building an actual decision rather than just taking whoever you have. Luckily, the game is smart about one thing: all characters keep earning EXP and MRP after every fight, even the ones sitting on the bench. You will never need to grind a character up from scratch just because you ignored them for a few chapters.

All Party Members in Final Fantasy Resonance — Quick Reference Table

Here is the complete roster at a glance:

    • Rain — Sentinel — Chapter 1 — Fire — Highest Stat: Stamina
    • Lasswell — Breaker — Chapter 1 — Ice — Highest Stat: Strength
    • Fina — Medic — Chapter 1 — Light — Highest Stat: Spirit
    • Lid — Commando — Chapter 2 — Earth — Highest Stat: Stamina
    • Nichol — Synergist — Chapter 3 — Water — Highest Stat: Magic
    • Jake — Commando — Chapter 4 — Wind — Highest Stat: Strength
    • Sakura — Commando — Chapter 5 — Dark/Lightning — Highest Stat: Magic
    • Archwitch Fina — Saboteur — Chapter 5 — Dark — Highest Stat: Magic

Rain — The Party’s Tank and Front-Line Fighter

Rain is the main protagonist and one of your two starting characters. He fills the Sentinel role, which means his job is to stand at the front, absorb damage, and keep enemies focused on him rather than your healers and mages.

His highest stat is Stamina, and his main element is Fire. He wields a Greatsword and can equip both heavy and light armor, making him one of the toughest characters to take down. Beyond tanking, Rain is also a solid physical attacker in his own right — especially when buffed by Nichol’s Formations.

Rain is the only Sentinel in the entire game. There is no replacement for what he does, which makes him a near-permanent fixture in most party setups from start to finish.

For a full breakdown of his skills and best Vision, check out our Rain character guide.

Lasswell — The Best Physical Attacker and Stagger Specialist

Lasswell is Rain’s adopted brother and your second starting character. He plays the Breaker role, which is built around filling enemy Stagger gauges and creating burst windows for the rest of the party.

His Strength stat is the highest in the game among physical attackers, and he is the only character with access to Spellblade — a unique mechanic that coats his sword with elemental magic. His personal skills like Hone Senses and Placidity boost his critical rate, speed, and stagger power significantly.

On top of staggering enemies, Lasswell can also be built as a pure physical damage dealer. He hits hard, hits fast, and can easily reach the normal damage cap with the right setup. He is consistently rated as one of the strongest characters in the roster.

See our Lasswell character guide for his full skill list and best build.

Fina — The Only Dedicated Healer in the Game

Fina joins your party in Chapter 1, shortly after you leave Grandshelt. She is the Medic of the group and your primary source of healing throughout the entire game.

Her Spirit stat is the highest in the roster, which directly boosts the potency of her healing spells. She uses a Bow and can equip Robe or Light armor. Her kit includes Curaga for reliable HP recovery, Esuna for clearing status ailments, Raise for reviving fallen allies, and Reraise for proactive revival before characters go down.

What sets Fina apart beyond healing is that she is the only character who can summon Espers in battle. That alone makes her difficult to leave out of any serious party. She is the only Medic in the game, so there is genuinely no one else who does what she does.

For her complete build and abilities, read our Fina character guide.

Lid — The Flexible Physical Commando with Mechabo

Lid joins during Chapter 2 at the Dilmagia Shipyard. She plays as a Commando, which in her case means flexible physical damage with a side of mechanical chaos — she brings a robot companion called Mechabo into battle.

Her main element is Earth and her highest stat is Stamina. She wields a Hammer and can equip a range of armor types. What makes Lid interesting is that Mechabo learns and grows from monster materials, giving her abilities that evolve as you progress.

She is also a capable stagger enabler, with skills that can push enemy gauges quickly. Her move Overclock Zero provides a 300% boost to stagger power, making her one of the more potent options for breaking tough enemies. Many of her strongest skills are locked behind optional sub quests, so exploring side content is worth it if you plan to use her seriously.

Nichol — The Best Support Character and Party Buffer

Nichol arrives in Chapter 3 and is the only Synergist in the entire game. That means he has a total monopoly on party-wide buffs — no one else does what he does.

His unique mechanic is the Formation system. Different Formations grant the entire party different bonuses — increased stagger power, physical and magical defense, critical rate, and more depending on which Formation you activate. He can also flex into a support healer role when needed.

His highest stat is Magic, and he uses a Grimoire as his weapon. His Magic stat also makes him a threat as an offensive caster when you want him to do more than support. Nichol starts slow — his early skills are modest — but he becomes one of the most valuable party members in the game once his Formations are fully online.

He is essentially required for high-damage party setups. Most endgame team compositions include him as a cornerstone.

    Jake — The High-Risk, High-Reward Physical Commando

Jake joins in Chapter 4 after the events at the Rebel Hideout. He is a Commando with the highest raw Strength stat of any physical attacker on the roster. His main element is Wind and he wields a Gun.

The thing that makes Jake unusual is his Luck mechanic. Several of his most powerful abilities — including Coin Toss and Gamble Shot — are tied directly to his Luck level, which fluctuates based on specific conditions. When the luck is high, Jake can hit remarkably hard. When it is not, he underperforms.

He also carries Wind magic and Bravery in his base kit. Outside of his luck-dependent skills, Jake is a relatively straightforward damage dealer. He offers minimal utility for the rest of the party, so he works best alongside characters who can cover healing and defense.

Our Jake character guide has more on his skill set and the best setup to make his luck mechanics pay off.

Sakura — The Best Magic Damage Dealer in Final Fantasy Resonance

Sakura joins in Chapter 5 after you visit her home in Mysidia. She looks like a young girl but is described as a centuries-old sage. Her role is Commando, but her highest stat is Magic — making her the strongest offensive spellcaster in the entire roster.

She wields a Rod and covers both Dark and Lightning elements. Her key strength is the ability to self-buff her own elemental magic, which means she hits harder as a fight goes on rather than staying flat. Skills like Concentrate, Thundaga, and Sakura’s Ultima are among the most damaging moves in the game when used correctly.

The trade-off is that Sakura has low physical defense. She needs someone to absorb hits for her, which makes Rain an excellent partner. Like Jake, she contributes almost entirely through damage rather than support — so the rest of the party needs to fill the gaps.

Check out the full Sakura character guide for her abilities and best Vision pairing.

Archwitch Fina — The Only Debuffer and Dark Magic Specialist

Archwitch Fina is the alter ego of Fina, and she joins permanently in Chapter 5 after events at the Nameless Ruins. She is the Saboteur of the group — the only character focused on weakening enemies rather than dealing damage or healing allies.

Her highest stat is Magic and her main element is Dark. She uses a Whip and has access to powerful Dark-element spells alongside non-elemental abilities like Gravity. Her toolkit includes debuffs like Deshell (reduces magic defense) and Distress (amplifies damage taken), alongside her signature AoE spell Dystopia — which gains 10% more damage with every consecutive cast.

Her unique ability, Witching Hour, transforms her combat style but also prevents her from receiving white magic healing while it is active. That means you need Nichol’s buffs or items to keep her alive when Witching Hour is running.

When Archwitch Fina applies debuffs before a burst turn, the damage output from characters like Lasswell and Sakura increases dramatically. She is not a standalone powerhouse — but in the right setup, she makes everyone else stronger.

Read our full Archwitch Fina character guide for her complete skill list and best party synergies.

Best Party Compositions in Final Fantasy Resonance

You can only take four characters into battle, so knowing how to combine them matters. Here are the setups that work best at different points in the game.

Best Early Game Party — Rain, Lasswell, Fina, and Nichol

This is the most balanced setup and the one most players gravitate toward through the mid-game. Rain tanks and draws aggro. Lasswell builds the Stagger gauge with his Breaker skills. Fina keeps everyone alive with Curaga, Esuna, and Esper summons. Nichol buffs the entire party with Formations.

All four roles are covered cleanly with no overlap, and there is no obvious weak link. This party handles the vast majority of encounters comfortably from Chapter 3 onward.

Best Late Game Party — Rain, Lasswell, Fina, and Sakura

Once Sakura joins in Chapter 5, she slots into the fourth spot as your magic damage dealer. Her ability to self-buff her elemental spells makes her the best source of sustained magical damage in the game. This setup keeps the core of Rain, Lasswell, and Fina intact while adding pure offensive power.

Best Burst Party — Lasswell, Jake, Sakura, and Archwitch Fina

This is a high-risk, high-reward composition with no dedicated healer or tank. Archwitch Fina debuffs the enemy, Sakura and Lasswell unleash their hardest hits, and Jake adds physical burst on top. It covers all eight elements combined — but you will need Espers, items, and high Mastery levels to survive. Save this for enemies you can stagger quickly.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Party

    • All characters earn EXP and MRP off the bench. Do not stress about swapping characters in and out. Everyone stays level with the story as long as you keep fighting.
    • Never skip optional content. Some of Lid’s best abilities are locked behind sub quests. Check our all sub quests list to make sure you are not missing anything important.
    • Invest in Visions early. Each character gets one equipped Vision that provides additional stats and skills. Getting the right one early makes a significant difference. See all available options in our all Visions list.
    • Keep Fina in the party for bosses. She is the only character who can summon Espers. Against tough bosses, that summon option can be a game changer.
    • Switch to Expert difficulty before farming Citrine Pots. You earn more MRP for the same effort. These one-time encounters are some of the best MRP opportunities in the game — see our guide on how to beat the Citrine Pot for details.
    • Use Nichol’s Formations before burst turns. Setting up the right Formation before a stagger window can dramatically increase the damage your whole party deals in that window.
    • Archwitch Fina needs a babysitter. While Witching Hour is active, she cannot receive white magic heals. Keep Nichol nearby or stock up on items before activating it.

Frequently Asked Questions — Party Members in Final Fantasy Resonance

How many party members are in Final Fantasy Resonance?

There are eight total party members: Rain, Lasswell, Fina, Lid, Nichol, Jake, Sakura, and Archwitch Fina. You can only bring four into battle at any given time.

Can you miss any party members in Final Fantasy Resonance?

No. All eight party members join automatically as you progress through the main story. None of them are tied to missable side quests or optional events.

Do bench characters still earn EXP in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Yes. Every character in your full roster earns EXP and MRP after each battle, even if they were not active in the fight. You will never need to grind a character from behind just because you benched them.

What is the best party in Final Fantasy Resonance?

The best all-around party is Rain, Lasswell, Fina, and Nichol. Rain tanks, Lasswell staggers, Fina heals and summons Espers, and Nichol buffs the entire team with Formations. For late-game content, swapping Nichol for Sakura adds strong magic damage output.

    What chapter does Sakura join?

Sakura joins in Chapter 5 after you visit her house in Mysidia. She is one of the last two characters to join, alongside Archwitch Fina.

    What is Archwitch Fina’s role?

Archwitch Fina is the game’s only Saboteur. She specializes in weakening enemies with debuffs like Deshell and Distress rather than dealing raw damage or healing. She amplifies the damage output of the rest of your party.

Is Nichol worth using in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Yes. Nichol is the only Synergist in the game, which means he is the only character with access to party-wide Formations that boost stagger power, defense, and critical rate. Most endgame party setups include him as a core member.

What role does Lid play in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Lid is a Commando with a focus on physical damage and stagger. Her unique mechanic is Mechabo, a robot companion that learns abilities from monster materials and grows stronger as the game progresses.

Who is the best character in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Fina and Nichol are considered top-tier because they fill roles no other character can replace. Sakura is the strongest offensive magic user. Lasswell is the best physical attacker and stagger dealer. The “best” character really depends on what your party needs. For a detailed ranking, check out our Visions tier list and character builds guide.

Can Fina and Archwitch Fina be in the same party?

Yes. Even though they share the same person, Fina and Archwitch Fina are treated as separate party members and can both be included in your active team of four at the same time.
