- The locked chest in the Nameless Ruins hides behind a three-statue riddle.
- You must touch the statues in the exact order: Broken Sword → Withered Horse → Darkness Sealed.
- The chest is found right at the entrance, near the first save point.
- You have to defeat two bosses first — Liquid Flame and Iron Giant — to reach all three statues.
- The reward is Tyr’s Armor, a heavy armor piece that grants constant Protect when your HP drops below half.
Stuck at that locked chest near the entrance of the Nameless Ruins? You’re not alone. A lot of players try to open it right away and get a cryptic riddle instead. The game doesn’t hold your hand on this one. But don’t worry — once you know what to do, it’s actually pretty satisfying to solve.
This guide covers exactly how to unlock the chest in the Nameless Ruins in Final Fantasy Resonance, including where all three statues are and what you get when the chest opens.
Where Is the Locked Chest in the Nameless Ruins?
The Nameless Ruins is a dungeon located south of Mysidia, the Magiapolis. You enter it during Chapter 5 of the main story. As soon as you step inside, a short party conversation plays out. After that, a save point appears right at the entrance.
Right next to that save point, you’ll see a statue and a chest sitting beside it. That’s the chest in question. If you try to open it straight away, it displays a riddle instead of your loot.
The riddle reads: “First, a broken sword pierced the sky, bringing light. Then, a withered horse was laid to rest, becoming the land. Finally, darkness once sealed was unleashed, cleaving day from night.”
This riddle is telling you the order in which to touch three statues scattered across the Nameless Ruins. The statue right next to the chest — called the Statue of Darkness Sealed — is actually the last one you touch.

How to Open the Locked Chest in the Nameless Ruins
There are three steps you need to follow. The order matters — if you touch the statues in the wrong sequence, nothing happens and you have to start again from the first one.
Here’s the full order:
- Interact with the chest first to activate the riddle
- Find and touch the Statue of a Broken Sword (third floor / deep in the ruins)
- Find and touch the Statue of a Withered Horse (second area from the entrance)
- Return and touch the Statue of Darkness Sealed beside the chest
When you activate the last statue correctly, the chest pops open on its own. No key needed.
Step 1 – Interact With the Chest First
Before you do anything else, walk up to the locked chest and interact with it. This is important. The statues won’t respond to you until you’ve read the riddle first. Think of it like activating the puzzle — the game won’t track your statue interactions until this step is done.
Step 2 – Find the Statue of a Broken Sword (First Statue)
This is the tricky one because it’s the furthest away. The Statue of a Broken Sword is found deep in the ruins, near the save point at the far end — sometimes described as the third floor or the top level of the dungeon.
To even reach this statue, you’ll need to defeat the two bosses on the second floor first (more on that below). Once those doors are unlocked, head upstairs and look for the save point at the back end of the ruins. The statue is nearby.
Touch it. You’ll see a light or glow effect confirming it’s been activated.

Step 3 – Find the Statue of a Withered Horse (Second Statue)
The second statue is the Statue of a Withered Horse. It’s found in the second area from the entrance, on the other side of a fallen pillar in the first floor section of the dungeon.
Head back toward the entrance and look around the second area. This one is easier to find than the first since it’s lower in the dungeon. Touch it once you spot it.

Step 4 – Touch the Statue of Darkness Sealed (Final Statue)
Now head back to where you started — the entrance area with the first save point. The Statue of Darkness Sealed is right next to the locked chest. Interact with it last.
If you did everything in the right order, the chest opens automatically and you get your reward.
If nothing happens, go back to the Statue of a Broken Sword and start the sequence again.
Defeat Liquid Flame and Iron Giant First
Here’s the thing — you can’t actually reach all three statues right when you enter the dungeon. Two of the doors on the second floor are locked behind boss fights.
You need to defeat Liquid Flame and Iron Giant — both found behind doors on the second floor — before the way to the third floor opens up. These are Level 34 bosses, so make sure your party is ready.
- Liquid Flame is a Fairy-type boss. It deals fire damage, so fire-resistant gear helps. Use ice or water attacks for best results.
- Iron Giant is a Machina-type boss with high HP and heavy physical attacks. Keep your party healthy and prioritize breaking its stagger bar.
Beat both of them and the path deeper into the ruins unlocks. Now you can go find the first statue.

Nameless Ruins Locked Chest Reward – Tyr’s Armor
Open the chest and you’ll receive Tyr’s Armor. This is a heavy armor piece, and it’s worth the extra effort to get it.
Here’s what it does:
- Raises HP by 250
- Grants constant Protect when your HP drops below half
That passive Protect effect is really useful for tankier characters. It kicks in automatically once you’re at low health, which means you’re getting a damage reduction buff right when you need it most. It’s one of the better mid-game armors you can pick up for free.
Looking for more gear in the dungeon? The Nameless Ruins also has Magi-Blaster, Impact Wand, Healing Spring x3, and Magicite in other chests. Check our Final Fantasy Resonance All Weapons List for everything worth grabbing.
Other Things to Grab in the Nameless Ruins
While you’re working through the dungeon solving the statue puzzle, don’t forget about these:
- Tablet Shard #66 — In the first room, head west to a fallen pillar. It’s the yellow sparkly spot right near it.
- Tablet Shard #67 — In the second area, go southeast of the save point, down the stairs.
Tablet Shards are easy to miss if you’re focused on the main objective. Grab them while you’re here. You can see all 99 locations in our Final Fantasy Resonance All 99 Tablet Shard Locations guide.
This dungeon is also a good time to check your Esper progress. See our Final Fantasy Resonance All Esper Locations guide if you’re collecting those.
