The Stone Beasts, Like Ghouls Seated is the second quest in the On One Side a Palace, On the Other a Tomb world quest chain. It becomes available immediately after you complete the first subquest, To Gaze Upon the Dreaming Pale Crown. The questline is part of the larger effort to collect all of the Eye of Graeae’s fragments in Genshin Impact 7.0 Snezhnaya.

How to Enter the Pale Crown Palace

When you arrive at the Pale Crown Palace exterior, you will notice the front doors are completely covered in ice — you cannot go through them directly. Do not try to force your way in from the front.

Instead, follow the Eye of Graeae along the outer wall until it shows you an opening. This opening is blocked by a Prime Ice Construct, so use your Prime Ice Construct build menu to remove it. Once it is gone, head through the opening and go up the staircase. This takes you to the Frozen Royal Hall entrance. From here, you can go up and enter the palace’s main doors properly.

How to Enter the Pale Crown Palace Genshin Impact

Open the Palace Gates First

Before reaching the Royal Hall, you will come across a gate puzzle outside the palace. You will see griffin-style statues and blue pressure plates on the ground. Place Cube Prime Ice Constructs on the blue pressure plates to unlock the statues. Then push each griffin statue until it lines up with the central platform. Once both statues are in position, the palace outer gates open and you can proceed inside.

Collect the rifle ammo from the chest outside the palace entrance. You will need the rifle to deal with the flying enemies blocking the doorway. Shoot them down, then use a Basic Heat Source to melt the ice blocking the doorway, open the Exquisite Chest inside, and continue into the main hall.

Understanding the Prototype Kresnik’s Torch

The entire Royal Hall puzzle runs on one mechanic: the Prototype Kresnik’s Torch. It hangs from the ceiling. When you shoot it, it switches between two states:

• Heat State — Water flows normally. Ice melts. Platforms lower.
• Cold State — Everything freezes solid. Statues are raised up on frozen pillars. The floor turns to slick ice so statues slide when pushed.

You control how and where a statue slides by placing Cube Prime Ice Constructs as walls to stop it. A Basic Heat Source Prime Ice Construct melts nearby ice, collapsing a frozen pillar and dropping a statue or platform down. You can remove both types of construct after they have done their job.

Enter the Frozen Royal Hall and Activate the Torch

When you step into the main Royal Hall, look up at the ceiling. You will see the Prototype Kresnik’s Torch hanging there. Shoot the crystal ore on the torch to activate it and switch it to Heat State. This melts the ice in the room and also summons a group of enemies. Defeat all of them before doing anything else.

Once the enemies are cleared, approach the throne in the middle of the hall. Place the Eye of Graeae on the port near the throne. The Eye will give you instructions on how to open the sealed door at the back of the Royal Hall. While you are here, also collect the Firearm Blueprint on the giant chair — it gives you the Gunsight accessory and you do not want to miss it.

How to Find a Way to Open the Door to the Royal Hall

The door at the back of the Royal Hall is sealed. To open it, you need to push two Statues of the Cemetery Guardian onto the marked squares on the lower floor. Both statues start on upper levels, so the puzzle is all about dropping them down and steering them into place.

Go back down the stairs from the throne area and swim through the opening to the right. You will find two connected rooms — Room A and Room B — each containing one of the statues you need to move.

Room A — Moving the First Statue

In Room A, make sure the Prototype Kresnik’s Torch is in Cold State. If it is not, shoot it to switch. The cold freezes the water in the room and raises the statue up on a frozen pillar.

• Remove the four default Cube Prime Ice Constructs already in the room so they do not block the statue’s path.
• Use a Basic Heat Source to melt the ice pillar that is holding the statue up. Once it melts, remove the Basic Heat Source construct.
• Build a Cube Prime Ice Construct in the direction you want the statue to stop.
• Push the statue toward the Cube. On the frozen floor, it will slide until it hits the Cube wall you placed.
• Steer the statue to the exit hole in the floor. Push it through the hole so it drops down to the lower level.

Room B — Moving the Second Statue

Cross the bridge from Room A to Room B. In Room B you can immediately see the second statue.

• Find the ice spout that is holding a platform up. Use a Basic Heat Source to melt it, then remove the Prime Ice Construct afterward. This lowers the platform.
• Push the statue toward the bookshelf, then push it again to where the platform was.
• Shoot the Prototype Kresnik’s Torch to switch it to Heat State, which raises the statue up. Then immediately shoot it again to switch back to Cold State, which freezes it in the raised position.
• Go up the stairs to reach the statue at its new raised position.
• Push the statue to the second floor, then push it down the slope toward the exit hole.
• The statue drops through the hole to the lower level.

Place Both Statues on Their Floor Squares

Now that both statues are on the lower floor, push each one to the marked square on the floor where they belong. The Eye of Graeae marks the correct spots. Once the second statue settles into its square, a cutscene triggers showing the Traveler a memory of Aksinya talking to a mysterious creature. After the dialogue ends, the door at the back of the Royal Hall swings open.

What Happens After the Door Opens

Go through the door at the back of the Royal Hall. You will enter a magnificent hallway. As you try to cross the bridge ahead, it will collapse. Use the diamond sigils in the air to get across to the other side.

Continue through the palace. You will encounter a new puzzle involving a leaking pipe. Build a Cube Prime Ice Construct on the leaking pipe to plug it, which allows the heat to melt the ice blocking the next door. Open the door and use the lift to go higher up in the palace.

Shortly after, a cutscene triggers showing Zver — a flying boss from the memory you saw in the Royal Hall — attacking you. Prepare for a boss fight in third-person shooter mode. Shoot Zver’s Anemo Orbs to deal damage to it. Space is limited on the tower, so time your dodges carefully and fire whenever you get a clear shot.

After defeating Zver, use the Link Mechanism to travel to Hvergelmir. Inside, retrieve the part of the Eye of Graeae’s body from the top of the ruins. This completes The Stone Beasts, Like Ghouls Seated quest and the entire On One Side a Palace, On the Other a Tomb questline, rewarding you with the Pebble of Crystalline Essence.

Troubleshooting: Door Still Won’t Open

If the door to the Royal Hall stays shut after you think you have solved the puzzle, here are the most common reasons:

• A statue stopped short of its marked square. Check both squares carefully. Even a small gap counts as unsolved.
• The Prototype Kresnik’s Torch is in the wrong state. This changes whether the floor is frozen and whether statues can slide properly. Correct the state, reposition any Cube constructs, and try pushing the statue again.
• If a room floods before you are done, shoot the chandelier again to reset the water state, then rebuild your ice path and try again.
• If a statue’s position is completely wrong, you can exit the game and return to refresh the statue back to its starting position.
