TL;DR:
- Sariel the Endless is the last Shell unlocked in Mortal Shell 2 and the most mechanically complex alongside Smert.
- He is found in the Chamber of Becoming dungeon in the Silent Steps area of southeastern Mammon.
- The unlock is a two-stage boss encounter. You fight Sariel first on an outdoor platform, forcing him to retreat into the Chamber of Becoming. Then you fight him again inside.
- Critical: During the final fight, you must destroy all four stone tablets in the arena’s corners to stop Sariel from resurrecting. Ignoring them means the fight loops forever.
- Defeating Sariel drops the Clockwork Scythe weapon and the Caged Hystrix sidearm in addition to the Shell.
- His Exodus of Thorns ability fires tracking thorn projectiles at enemies, inflicting Curse stacks. Every use also inflicts Pain on Sariel himself.
- His passive Purge converts 50% of incoming damage into Pain instead of real health loss. At max Pain, he dodges faster. Pain is healed by attacking enemies.
- He has 12 skills across 4 Bond Tiers and 6 memories. Total Gloom cost: 3,000. Total payout: 3,250.
- The best build focuses on maximizing Pain recovery, Trauma application through Remedy, and scaling Exodus of Thorns damage with Torment’s Pain-based multiplier.
Mortal Shell 2 Sariel the Endless is the final Shell in the game and one of the hardest to both reach and understand. His mechanics run on a second health system called Pain that flips the usual damage logic – taking hits is not entirely bad, it builds Pain, and attacking lets you drain it back. His active fires tracking thorns that curse enemies, making their own melee strikes hurt them. His passive makes him partially immune to taking real damage as long as Pain is not maxed. Playing him well means staying aggressive, never going passive, and understanding when to spend Pain on Exodus of Thorns versus when to keep it full for the dodge speed and Agonize bonuses.
This guide covers his exact two-stage unlock route, the stone tablet mechanic that trips up most players, his full ability set, every skill in his tree, and how to build him around the Pain-and-Curse loop. For the previous Mammon Shell, see our Mortal Shell 2 Lazlo the Justiciar guide. The full eight-Shell collection is in our all Shell locations guide.

Where to Find Sariel the Endless
Sariel is found in the Chamber of Becoming dungeon in the Silent Steps area, located in the southeastern Ruins of Mammon, east of the Vestige of Infinity. His unlock is a multi-stage boss encounter spread across two separate locations in the same region.
Step-by-step directions to reach Sariel:
- Progress into southeastern Mammon and activate the Silent Steps Beacon. This is your base camp for the encounter. From the Abbey area, head south through the enemies and branching paths toward Silent Steps.
- From the Silent Steps Beacon, use the jump gate to reach the higher ledges and stone platforms in the area.
- Navigate southeast to the large stone platform in the open area. Sariel will be waiting there and attacks on sight. This is Phase 1.
- Deal enough damage to Sariel during this outdoor encounter. You do not need to kill him here – once his health is sufficiently depleted, a black shade will flow south along the walls and open a pathway into the Chamber of Becoming dungeon.
- Follow through the newly opened entrance into the Chamber of Becoming. Sariel retreats through the dungeon and you follow.
- Inside, you will fight Sariel again in the inner chamber. This is Phase 2 and is covered in detail below.
For navigation help in the fogged-out areas of Mammon, see our how to get a map in Mortal Shell 2 guide. Activate every Beacon you find along the way – our all Beacon locations guide ensures you don’t miss any fast travel points in the region.
How to Defeat Sariel the Endless – Boss Fight Guide
Phase 1 – Outdoor Platform at Silent Steps
Sariel wields the Clockwork Scythe and moves constantly around the platform. He is highly mobile and repositions between attacks. The key approach here:
- Sidearms are extremely effective. Sariel is very susceptible to sidearm damage. Use the Forgotten Crossbow or any other sidearm to apply ranged pressure while he moves.
- Stay mobile. He prioritizes movement and will try to flank you. Do not stand still waiting for him to come to you.
- You only need to deplete his health to a threshold – he will retreat before dying. Keep attacking until the pathway opens.
Phase 2 – Chamber of Becoming (Inner Chamber)
Inside the Chamber of Becoming, you fight Sariel again in a dedicated arena. He uses the same Clockwork Scythe moveset but is more aggressive in the enclosed space.
The Stone Tablet Mechanic – Most Important Step:
During this fight, Sariel will begin to resurrect repeatedly when his health depletes unless you destroy the resurrection mechanism first. Look around the arena and find four stone tablets, one in each corner of the room. Each has a faint yellow glow at its base. You must attack and destroy all four stone tablets during the fight to prevent Sariel from coming back. Failing to destroy them means the fight loops indefinitely with no way to finish it.
Recommended approach:
- When the fight starts, immediately locate the four glowing stone tablets in the corners.
- Prioritize destroying tablets over damaging Sariel. Each tablet takes a few hits to break.
- As Sariel revives between tablet breaks, continue attacking him to keep him occupied and prevent him from repositioning dangerously, but do not neglect the tablets.
- Once all four tablets are destroyed, finish the fight. Sariel can no longer resurrect and the encounter ends normally.
After Sariel is fully defeated, interact with his body to unlock the Shell and complete his memory sequence. You also receive the Clockwork Scythe weapon here. The Caged Hystrix sidearm is found in the last chamber of the dungeon after the memory sequence. Check our all weapon and sidearm locations guide for full details on both items.

Who Is Sariel the Endless?
Sariel is a new character in Mortal Shell 2 who functions as the game’s final Shell boss and its most philosophically unique warrior. His title “the Endless” speaks directly to his mechanic as a boss – he cannot die until his resurrection anchors are destroyed. As a Shell, this translates into a kit where Sariel genuinely cannot be hurt as easily as other warriors, because incoming damage converts into Pain rather than permanent health loss, and Pain heals when he attacks.
His motto: “That path to perfection is paved with blood.”
As a Shell, Sariel is an attrition fighter who punishes passivity. He is hard to kill because Purge converts incoming damage into a secondary meter. He deals damage to enemies who attack him because Cursed enemies hurt themselves when they strike him. And he gets better at dodging when his Pain is maxed, which turns a dangerous health state into a speed advantage. The entire kit rewards staying in fights longer rather than retreating to heal.
Sariel the Endless – Abilities
Active – Exodus of Thorns
Sariel expels parasitic thorn projectiles that hunt nearby enemies and inflict Curse stacks on impact. Thorns are tracking – they pursue enemies rather than firing in a straight line, making them effective against moving targets. Each activation of Exodus of Thorns also inflicts Pain on Sariel himself.
Cursed enemies who make melee attacks against Sariel have their attack reflected back on themselves, dealing self-inflicted damage. This means enemies who attack Sariel while Cursed are actively hurting themselves, turning aggression against him into a damage source rather than a danger.
Passive – Purge
Purge is a two-state passive with different effects depending on Sariel’s current Pain level:
- When Pain is empty: 50% of any incoming damage becomes Pain instead of real health loss. The hit still registers, but half of it goes to Pain rather than your main health bar. With Frailty maxed at Tier 2, this rises to 100% conversion – every hit goes to Pain with zero real health lost.
- When Pain is at maximum: Sariel dodges faster. Max Pain is a speed state, not a vulnerable one.
Pain is represented as grey health on your health bar. Attacking enemies cures Pain – the more you attack, the faster the grey disappears. A hit while Pain is present immediately removes all grey health. This is the core tension of playing Sariel: keep attacking to drain Pain before taking another hit, or let Pain max out for the dodge speed bonus while relying on Frailty’s full damage conversion.
Sariel the Endless – Full Skill Tree
Sariel has 12 skills across 4 Bond Tiers. Deepen his Bond by spending Glimpses with Zhirelle the Shellkeeper at Marrow Keep. Shell Points from leveling up are spent on individual skills. For efficient Gloom farming to unlock Bond Tiers quickly, see our fast Gloom farming guide.

- Level 2: 35% cures Pain
- Level 3: Cursed enemies self-inflicting damage also suffer 15 Break Damage

- Level 2: Thorns deal 8 splash damage on impact
- Level 3: Sariel expels a total of 22 thorns in the burst
- Level 4: Sariel expels 25 thorns in the burst
Restoration (3 levels) – Using Mether’s Pulse cures a significant portion of Sariel’s current Pain, giving him an emergency Pain drain tool.

- Level 2: Cures 50% of Pain
- Level 3: Cures 70% of Pain
Affliction (3 levels) – Damaging any Cursed enemy also deals a percentage of that damage to all other currently Cursed enemies. This is the AoE skill that makes Sariel dominant in large enemy groups.

- Level 2: Up to 40% of original damage
- Level 3: Up to 50% of original damage

Best Build for Sariel the Endless
The strongest Sariel build is the Trauma Break build, centered on Remedy’s Trauma shockwave triggering every time you fully drain Pain, scaling Exodus of Thorns with Torment’s Pain-amount multiplier, and keeping enemies permanently Cursed for Reversal’s Pain cure and Affliction’s AoE spread. The best weapons pair with Curse-infused Tarstones to compound Curse application on top of what Exodus of Thorns already applies.
Best Weapons for Sariel
Primary Weapon: Veteran’s Battle Axe
The Veteran’s Battle Axe is the top primary recommendation for Sariel. Its high per-hit damage means fewer hits are needed to drain Pain through the Reaper mechanic, and each heavy swing applies Break Damage that complements Torment’s Break scaling on thorns. It also works naturally with Trauma-based Tarstones. See our all weapon and sidearm locations guide to find it.
Alternatively, the Clockwork Scythe – which you earn by defeating Sariel – is thematically fitting and pairs well with his kit’s Curse and Pain synergies. Test both to see which moveset suits your rhythm.
Sidearm: Caged Hystrix
The Caged Hystrix fires a Poison cloud, which you also receive in the Chamber of Becoming after defeating Sariel. It provides consistent ranged Poison application that stacks with Accursed Stone’s Curse infusion for layered status pressure. With Reaper Level 3, ranged attacks also cure Pain – making the Caged Hystrix both a status tool and a Pain management option at the same time. Our best sidearms guide covers other options if you want alternatives.
Best Tarstones for Sariel
- Accursed Stone (Weapon Infusion) – Infuses your weapon attacks with Curse. Every melee hit applies Curse stacks on top of what Exodus of Thorns already adds. With Scourge maxed, Cursed enemies stay Cursed for 30 seconds, meaning Affliction’s AoE chain keeps firing for an extended window.
- Splitting Stone (Sidearm Infusion) – Increases the Caged Hystrix’s damage output. More Poison pressure from range while Curse is applied through melee and thorns.
- Strange Remnant (Sidearm) – Chains ranged attacks between Cursed targets. Works synergistically with Affliction – if multiple enemies are Cursed and you hit one with a ranged chain, the Affliction AoE fires on all of them simultaneously for massive group damage.
- Auspicious Stone – Increases melee Critical Hit rate. Sariel’s high-damage hits trigger more crits, which when combined with Reversal Level 4 (Riposte damage cures Pain) means Critical Ripostes drain Pain fast.
- Headsman’s Stone – Increases Critical Hit damage. Each crit that lands during combat cures more Pain through Reaper’s 50% full-cure chance, making crits doubly useful.
For a complete Tarstone overview, see our best Tarstones for beginners guide.
Priority Skills to Unlock
- Frailty (Level 1–3) – 100% of incoming damage converts to Pain at max level. This is the foundation of Sariel’s survivability. Nothing else matters until Frailty is maxed.
- Reaper (Level 1–3) – Ranged damage cures Pain and melee attacks have 50% chance to cure all Pain instantly. This makes staying aggressive viable – every hit drains the grey bar.
- Growth (Level 1–3) – 40% more thorn damage and Perforation stacks. Core Exodus of Thorns upgrade that makes every activation hit meaningfully harder.
- Remedy (Level 1–3) – 10 Trauma stacks on every full Pain cure. This is the skill that makes Sariel’s loop genuinely damaging rather than just survivable. Each time you successfully drain all Pain, enemies around you take a Trauma shockwave.
- Scourge (Level 1–3) – 30-second Curse duration. Combined with Affliction, this means a single Thornfall blast can keep a group of enemies Cursed, chaining AoE damage for half a minute.
- Torment (Level 1–3) – Thorn damage scales with Pain amount. At max Pain Torment makes Exodus of Thorns enormously powerful. Use thorns right before attacking to drain Pain for Remedy’s shockwave.
- Reversal (Level 1–4) – Cursed enemies hurting themselves also cures your Pain and deals Break Damage at Level 3. Riposte damage cures Pain at Level 4. This plus Remedy means every Riposte both drains Pain and fires a Trauma shockwave.
- Thornfall (Level 1–4) – 25 tracking thorns raining on a target at once. This is the big Tier 4 damage skill. Use it against bosses during the Pain-high state where Torment is scaling thorn damage to maximum.
Combat Loop
- Open by firing Exodus of Thorns to apply Curse stacks and begin accumulating Pain on yourself.
- Engage enemies with melee attacks. Cursed enemies who hit back are hurting themselves. Reversal’s Cursed self-inflicted damage also cures your Pain, so their attacks become a sustain source.
- Keep attacking to drain Pain through Reaper’s 50% instant-cure chance. As Pain drains to zero, Remedy triggers a Trauma shockwave automatically on each full cure.
- While Pain is high, use Exodus of Thorns again. With Torment, high Pain scales thorn damage and Stagger output to maximum – fire thorns when your Pain bar is near full for biggest thorn hits.
- Against groups, activate Thornfall to rain 25 thorns on the primary target. Affliction then deals up to 50% of that damage to every other Cursed enemy simultaneously.
- At max Pain, take advantage of Purge’s dodge speed bonus and Agonize’s Resolve regeneration to recover ability resources before attacking back down to zero for another Remedy shockwave cycle.
- Use Mether’s Pulse with Restoration maxed for an emergency 70% Pain cure if you need to drop Pain fast without attacking – useful in situations where attacking is dangerous.
Tips for Playing Sariel the Endless
- Never be passive. Sariel’s entire kit punishes players who stop attacking. Pain heals through melee. Remedy fires on Pain cure. Reversal cures Pain when Cursed enemies attack you. Every mechanic rewards staying in the fight. The moment you back off and stop swinging, Pain sits on your health bar as a liability rather than a managed resource.
- Destroy the stone tablets during the boss fight before focusing on Sariel. This is the number one mistake players make. The tablets are in the four corners of the Chamber of Becoming arena and glow faintly yellow. They need just a few hits each. Ignore them and the fight loops forever.
- Combo Torment with Thornfall. Thornfall at full Pain with Torment maxed fires 25 thorns that each deal up to 200% damage based on Pain amount. This is one of the highest single-ability damage events in the game. Use it when your Pain is near maximum for the biggest burst.
- Scourge Level 3 makes Affliction absurdly strong in groups. A 30-second Curse duration means enemies stay Cursed through multiple exchanges. Every time you hit any of them, Affliction chains 50% of that damage to every other Cursed enemy in range. In tight corridors with multiple enemies, this compounds into enormous AoE damage from a single target hit.
- Reversal Level 4 turns Ripostes into instant Pain drains. Combined with Remedy Level 3, every successful Parry → Riposte sequence simultaneously cures all Pain and fires a 10-Trauma shockwave. Parrying well rewards Sariel far beyond any other Shell because of how many mechanics it chains together.
- Use the Caged Hystrix actively for Pain management. With Reaper Level 3, ranged damage cures Pain. The Caged Hystrix’s Poison cloud counts as ranged damage. In situations where melee is dangerous, popping a Caged Hystrix cloud drains Pain from a safe distance.
For Seal options that pair with Sariel’s Parry-focused late game, check our best Seals in Mortal Shell 2 guide. The Untarnished Seal’s Parry-to-Riposte chain works excellently with Reversal Level 4. For New Game Plus planning with Sariel, our New Game Plus guide explains how Curse duration and Affliction’s AoE chain scale with NG+ enemy density.
Is Sariel the Best Shell in Mortal Shell 2?
Sariel has S-tier damage potential and a sustain mechanic that makes him nearly unkillable once Frailty is maxed. A player who understands Pain management and keeps attacking through every dangerous moment will find Sariel extremely hard to kill and capable of enormous damage through Thornfall, Affliction, and Torment stacking.
The steep learning curve comes from understanding Pain as a resource to manage rather than a danger to avoid. New players who instinctively retreat when their health bar turns grey will struggle. Experienced players who trust the mechanic will find him one of the most rewarding Shells in the game.
He is best picked up after you are comfortable with the game’s combat fundamentals. If you are still learning, start with Tiel or Proxima first, then return to Sariel once dodge timing and Parry windows feel natural.
Unlocking Sariel earns his individual trophy/achievement and also completes the Shell Seeker trophy/achievement for collecting all eight playable Shells. Track your full collection with our Mortal Shell 2 trophy and achievement guide.
FAQs – Mortal Shell 2 Sariel the Endless
Where is Sariel the Endless in Mortal Shell 2?
Sariel is found in the Chamber of Becoming dungeon in the Silent Steps area of southeastern Mammon. Reach the Silent Steps Beacon, navigate southeast to the large stone platform, engage Sariel there to force him to retreat, then follow through the opened pathway into the Chamber of Becoming and defeat him again inside.
How do you stop Sariel from resurrecting in Mortal Shell 2?
During the fight inside the Chamber of Becoming, four stone tablets sit in the corners of the arena with a faint yellow glow at their bases. You must attack and destroy all four tablets during the fight. Until all four are destroyed, Sariel will keep resurrecting after each defeat. Once all tablets are broken, the fight ends permanently when his health depletes.
What does Purge do in Mortal Shell 2?
Purge is Sariel’s passive. When his Pain is empty, 50% of any incoming damage converts to Pain (grey health) instead of real health loss. With Frailty maxed at Tier 2, this rises to 100% – every hit goes to Pain with zero real health damage. When Pain is at maximum, Sariel dodges faster. Pain is cured by attacking enemies – the more aggressive you are, the faster grey health disappears.
What do you get for defeating Sariel the Endless?
Defeating Sariel drops three rewards. The Sariel Shell itself is claimed by interacting with his body after the fight. The Clockwork Scythe weapon – the same weapon Sariel uses as a boss – is found in the dungeon after the fight. The Caged Hystrix sidearm is found in the last chamber of the dungeon after completing Sariel’s memory sequence. Getting all eight Shells including Sariel also unlocks the Shell Seeker trophy and achievement.
