TL;DR
- The Unconventional Attire is an S-Rank exclusive orange prison outfit for Esper Zero — only available inside the Hethereau Detention Center.
- To unlock it permanently, you need 15 Star Weekly magazines and must trade them to an NPC called Spider.
- Trade 5 Strong Painkillers to Spider for 1 Star Weekly — you can get up to 12 this way.
- Get 2 Star Weekly from the Dawn in Detention and Detention Strikes Back achievements.
- Get 1 Star Weekly each time you complete an escape route — there are 5 methods total.
- Strong Painkillers are earned by trading Soap (to Crocodile), Playing Cards (to Gourd), or Weekly Felony magazines (to Squid Ball).
- The outfit also comes with an exclusive avatar frame — it is worth the grind.
The Unconventional Attire is easily one of the most unique cosmetics in Neverness To Everness. It is Zero’s orange prison jumpsuit — the one your character wears by default while locked up in the Hethereau Detention Center. You wear it automatically in prison, but the moment you leave, it disappears. To keep it forever, you have to earn it through the prison’s black market system. This guide covers every step, from how to get arrested to how to collect all 15 Star Weekly magazines needed to buy the outfit from Spider.
NTE is available on PC, PS5, Android, and iOS. Download it from the official NTE website, Google Play, or the PlayStation Store.
What Is the Unconventional Attire In NTE?
The Unconventional Attire is an S-Rank skin for Esper Zero. It is the bright orange detention uniform your character is forced to wear inside the Hethereau Detention Center. The item description captures it perfectly — most people never want to see this shade of orange again, but you earned it the hard way and it becomes a badge of honour you can wear anywhere in Hethereau.
Unlocking the Unconventional Attire also grants you an exclusive avatar frame to go along with it. Once purchased, you can equip and unequip the outfit at any time through Zero’s character status screen — tap the button at the bottom left. It is purely cosmetic and does not affect stats or combat.
The outfit is only available through the prison system. There is no way to buy it from the Fashion Shop in the Mall or earn it through regular gameplay. You have to go to jail to get it.

Step 1 — How To Get Arrested In NTE
To get inside the Hethereau Detention Center, you first need to raise your Warrant Value high enough to be caught by Security Officers. Your Warrant increases when you commit illegal acts — attacking NPCs or Security Officers, stealing vehicles, destroying public property, or causing general chaos.
Once your Warrant reaches 1 Star, you become wanted and Security Officers will begin chasing you. While wanted, you cannot fast travel, teleport home, or shop at stores. If one of your characters is defeated while wanted, you are arrested and sent to the Detention Center for a 6-day sentence.
The fastest way to get arrested intentionally is to commit crimes in view of Security Officers and let them catch you. Do not fight too hard — getting defeated ends the chase and sends you straight to jail. For tips on managing your Warrant level normally, see our Goodheart Crispy Mouse Cookie Guide, which covers warrant reduction in detail.
Step 2 — How To Find Spider In the Detention Center
Spider is the key NPC for unlocking the Unconventional Attire. She is a prisoner running a black market inside the Detention Center and is the only one who will sell you the outfit. Here is exactly how to find her:
- Enter your cell and rest on the bed to skip the morning.
- Skip lunch using the bed interaction.
- Skip yard time.
- From where you spawn, walk forward toward the guard.
- Turn left twice.
- Enter the first cell you come to.
- Talk to Spider inside the cell.
Spider runs a trading operation from her cell. The main exchange you want is 5 Strong Painkillers for 1 Star Weekly magazine. She can supply you with up to 12 Star Weekly magazines this way across multiple visits. She can also procure an Asahi Inori doll for you, which is used for one of the prison escape methods.
Step 3 — How To Collect All 15 Star Weekly Magazines
You need 15 Star Weekly magazines in total to buy the Unconventional Attire from Spider. Here is every source broken down so you can plan your prison stay efficiently.
Source 1 — Trade Strong Painkillers to Spider (Up to 12 Star Weekly)
The main source. Every 5 Strong Painkillers you give Spider earns you 1 Star Weekly. You can repeat this up to 12 times for 12 magazines total. This means you need to farm a lot of Strong Painkillers — and that requires trading other prison contraband with three different NPCs in the yard.
Source 2 — Achievements (2 Star Weekly)
Two achievements reward Star Weekly magazines directly:
- Dawn in Detention — 1 Star Weekly
- Detention Strikes Back — 1 Star Weekly
Make sure to claim these from your achievement log once unlocked.
Source 3 — Escape Routes (Up to 5 Star Weekly)
Every time you successfully complete one of the five prison escape methods, you earn 1 Star Weekly and 10,000 Fons. There are five escape routes in the Detention Center, meaning you can earn up to 5 magazines this way. You will need to get arrested and escape multiple times to collect them all, but it is the most efficient way to stack magazines quickly while also making progress on the achievement front.
Step 4 — How To Farm Strong Painkillers
Strong Painkillers are the currency you use with Spider. You cannot find many of them lying around — most of them come from trading other collectible contraband with three different prisoner NPCs during yard time. Here is where to find each trader and what they want.
Crocodile — 5 Soap for 1 Strong Painkiller
Crocodile is available during exercise/yard time. To find him, open the door behind the starting point of the exercise area and he will be standing immediately to your right. Soap bars are found scattered throughout the Detention Center — cells, the cafeteria, and the infirmary area. Pick up every bar you see during your daily exploration.
Gourd — 3 Playing Cards for 1 Strong Painkiller
Gourd is also available during yard time. To reach him, enter the cafeteria, move toward the guard, enter the door on the left, then take the exit door to the second part of the yard and talk to him by the fence. Playing card decks are found in prisoners’ cells and common areas. Search every corner during your free time.
Squid Ball — 2 Weekly Felony for 1 Strong Painkiller
Squid Ball is found during the daytime routine. To find him, end the morning, end yard time, then enter the first cell on the left side. He will be on the bed. Squid Ball takes 2 Weekly Felony magazines (not Star Weekly — these are a different magazine) in exchange for 1 Strong Painkiller. Weekly Felony magazines are found around the Detention Center during your daily exploration.
Important tip: Contraband items like Soap, Playing Cards, and Weekly Felony magazines respawn over time around the Detention Center. Explore every area thoroughly every day — cells, the yard, the cafeteria, and the infirmary — to collect as many as possible during your stay.

All 5 Prison Escape Methods In NTE
Each escape route rewards 1 Star Weekly and 10,000 Fons on first completion. You need to get arrested and complete each one to collect all five. Here is a summary of every method.
Another World… (Tunnel Escape)
This is the tunnel method. Inspect the posters on the wall next to your bed and you will find a hidden hole covered in bricks. Steal spoons from the cafeteria during lunch — each spoon breaks after removing 5 bricks, and you need two spoons total, meaning at least 2 days of lunch trips. Once the hole is clear, crawl through into the sewers. Follow the path while avoiding searchlights — if caught, your sentence extends by 3 days. Stick to the walls and reach the ocean to escape.
Extreme Sports (Watchtower Rappel)
This method requires collecting 2 Bed Sheets and 2 Grimy Detention Uniforms to make a rope, plus the Watchtower Key from the office on the ground floor of the cell block. One Bed Sheet is in the Show-Off Prisoner’s cell on the third floor, another is near the locker outside the infirmary. The Grimy Uniforms are under the ground floor staircase and in a second-floor cell. Once you have everything, tell the guard you want to clean — this takes you to the watchtower roof. Approach the ledge on the outer wall and interact to rappel down and escape.
Be Like Water (Sewer Corrosion Escape)
Head to the infirmary during recreation time by telling a guard you feel unwell — only do this once or your sentence is extended for false reports. In the infirmary, distract the doctor by talking to the prisoner in the bed, then steal Concentrated Disinfectant from the medicine shelf. Take the disinfectant to the sewer grate in the exercise yard behind the cafeteria and pour it on the gate. Wait one day. The metal corrodes overnight, opening the escape route through the sewers.
Cheat Death (Fake Your Death)
Ask Spider to get you an Asahi Inori doll — she will have it ready the next day. Give the doll to Living Fossil, who is in the front cell on the right side from your starting position at night. He will give you Restinol, a paralytic drug. During the next yard/recreation time, tell a guard you feel unwell to go to the infirmary. Interact with the hospital tray and ingest the Restinol when the doctor is not looking. The staff will think you are dead. A cutscene plays — you wake up on a boat, then dive into the ocean to complete the escape.
Into the Chaos (Blackout Escape)
During yard time, steal a spoon from the cafeteria, then go to the basketball court and interact with Tornado (who is harassing another prisoner named Hermit Crab). Choose to intervene and stop the fight. You will be thrown back in your cell as punishment — which is exactly what you want. Hermit Crab will then visit your cell. Talk to him, end yard time, then visit Hermit Crab’s cell and give him the spoon. He uses it to cause a prison blackout. Use the darkness to navigate the shadows to the docks. Take the boat and escape before guards find you.
How To Equip the Unconventional Attire After Unlocking It
Once you have collected 15 Star Weekly magazines and traded them to Spider, the Unconventional Attire will be added to your inventory as an S-Rank skin item. To equip it:
- Open the character status screen for Esper Zero.
- Tap the outfit button in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Select Unconventional Attire from your available outfits.
- Confirm the selection.
You can switch between the prison outfit and Zero’s default outfit anytime from this screen. The avatar frame that comes with the outfit can be set from your profile settings.
Tips For Getting the Unconventional Attire Efficiently
- Plan to get arrested multiple times — You need all 5 escape routes completed plus multiple trading cycles with Spider. One prison stay will not be enough. Treat each arrest as a farming run.
- Pick up every item you see — Soap, Playing Cards, and Weekly Felony magazines all feed into the Strong Painkiller chain. Never walk past a glowing item on the ground.
- Do not pay the fine — Paying 30,000 Fons to leave immediately cuts short your farming time. Stay in prison and make the most of it.
- Do not fast travel out — Fast travelling out of prison still triggers the 30,000 Fons fine. If you want to leave for free, use one of the five escape methods.
- Only feign sickness once — Telling a guard you feel unwell a second time before it resets will extend your sentence by a day. If you need the infirmary again, get into a fight with Tornado instead.
- Spider also helps with escape — The Asahi Inori doll for the Cheat Death escape comes from Spider too. Plan your visit to cover both the doll request and Star Weekly trades in one session.
- Visit all three traders every yard time — Crocodile, Gourd, and Squid Ball all reset over time. Make doing the rounds a habit during every yard session.

Final Thoughts
The Unconventional Attire is one of the most satisfying cosmetics to unlock in NTE — not because it is flashy, but because of everything you have to go through to get it. Getting arrested, running the prison black market, pulling off escape routes, and doing it all multiple times makes wearing that orange jumpsuit in the streets of Hethereau feel genuinely earned. If you are planning to grind it out, start by committing to multiple arrest cycles rather than trying to do everything in one stay. The Star Weekly magazines will stack up faster than you think once you have the trading loop down.
