Who Is Sangonomiya Kokomi in Genshin Impact?
Sangonomiya Kokomi is a 5-star Hydro Catalyst character in Genshin Impact, released in Version 2.1. She is the Divine Priestess of Watatsumi Island and the leader of the Watatsumi Army — the resistance force that opposed the Shogun’s Vision Hunt Decree during the Inazuma Archon Quest storyline.
In lore, Kokomi is one of the most capable strategists in all of Teyvat. She is a meticulous planner who has studied countless military treatises, and her calm, composed demeanor hides the enormous weight of responsibility she carries as the leader of her people. She is also deeply considerate — she insists on calculating every possible outcome before acting, not because she is indecisive, but because she refuses to waste a single life unnecessarily.
Her relationship with her Vision is personal. She says she received it not from ambition, but simply because she could not bear the thought of letting Watatsumi Island fall. Despite her power and intellect, she often jokes about wishing she could take a break and enjoy the simpler things in life.
In combat, Kokomi is the most reliable healer in the game. Her Bake-Kurage jellyfish provides consistent off-field Hydro application and healing. Her Elemental Burst puts her in the Ceremonial Garment state, boosting her Normal Attack damage and allowing her to heal all party members every time she hits an enemy. She heals from the front lines with grace — and she never stops applying Hydro while doing it.
You can play Genshin Impact on Android, iOS, PlayStation, Epic Games, and Xbox.

Understanding Kokomi’s -100% CRIT Rate Passive
Before building Kokomi, there is one critical thing every player must understand: Kokomi has a built-in passive that reduces her CRIT Rate by 100%. This means she literally cannot land Critical Hits under normal circumstances.
This is not a flaw to work around — it is a design decision. Kokomi compensates by having higher base HP, a 25% Healing Bonus baked into her kit, and damage multipliers that scale with her Max HP instead of CRIT. Her healing and damage are still excellent; they just scale differently from almost every other character in the game.
The practical implication is simple: never put CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG artifacts on Kokomi. Every CRIT stat on her is entirely wasted. Instead, stack HP%, Healing Bonus, and Energy Recharge for healer builds, or Elemental Mastery for Bloom builds.
Kokomi’s Role and Playstyle
Kokomi can fill two distinct roles depending on your team and build:
- Pure Healer / Hydro Applicator – This is her primary role. She deploys her Bake-Kurage jellyfish off-field for consistent Hydro application and healing, then uses her Burst to go on-field briefly for powerful burst healing while attacking enemies. She fits into virtually any team that needs a reliable healer and Hydro source.
- Bloom Driver – In Hyperbloom and Bloom teams, Kokomi stays on-field and applies consistent Hydro through her Normal Attacks during Burst state. The Hydro reacts with Dendro from Nahida to create Bloom seeds, which are then detonated by an Electro character for Hyperbloom. For this role she is built with Elemental Mastery to increase the Bloom reaction damage.
Her biggest strengths are the reliability and consistency of her kit. She has no difficult conditions to meet, no complex rotation requirements, and her healing is strong enough that most teams never need a second healer. She also provides some of the most consistent off-field Hydro application in the game, making her the go-to choice for Freeze and reaction-based teams.
Kokomi’s Abilities and Talents
Normal Attack – The Shape of Water
Kokomi performs up to three consecutive attacks in the form of swimming fish, dealing Hydro DMG. Her Charged Attack deals AoE Hydro DMG. Her Plunging Attack drops for AoE Hydro damage on impact. During her Elemental Burst (Ceremonial Garment), her Normal Attacks are significantly boosted and also heal all nearby party members on hit. Normal Attack is her lowest talent priority in most builds.
Elemental Skill – Kurage’s Oath
Kokomi summons a Bake-Kurage — a jellyfish made of water — at her location. The Bake-Kurage has the following properties:
- Deals Hydro DMG to nearby enemies every 2 seconds.
- Heals all nearby party members at regular intervals, with healing scaled on Kokomi’s Max HP.
- Applying the Wet status to Kokomi herself when placed (this does not apply Wet to enemies).
- Lasts 12 seconds and has a fairly long cooldown. With her Burst, the Bake-Kurage’s duration is refreshed when she returns to the field, effectively extending its uptime.
This is her most important talent for both off-field Hydro application and healing. Level this first.
Elemental Burst – Nereid’s Ascension
Kokomi summons the might of Watatsumi, dealing AoE Hydro DMG to surrounding enemies and donning the Ceremonial Garment. While in this state:
- Her Normal and Charged Attacks deal increased Hydro DMG scaled on her Max HP.
- Each Normal or Charged Attack hit heals all nearby party members based on her Max HP.
- She gains increased resistance to interruption and can move on the water’s surface.
- The Bake-Kurage’s duration is refreshed when she enters this state.
- The Ceremonial Garment lasts until she leaves the field.
This Burst transforms Kokomi into a simultaneous healer and Hydro applicator on-field. The healing per hit is significant and reliable, and the AoE Hydro application during Burst state is some of the best in the game. Her Burst is the second priority talent to level.
1st Ascension Passive – Tamanooya’s Casket
If Kokomi’s own Bake-Kurage is on the field when she uses Nereid’s Ascension, the Bake-Kurage’s duration is refreshed to its full 12 seconds. This means if you deploy your jellyfish, then activate your Burst before the jellyfish expires, you get the full benefit of both — extended off-field Hydro application plus the Burst state. This makes her rotation much more seamless.
4th Ascension Passive – Song of Pearls
While donning the Ceremonial Garment, the Normal and Charged Attack DMG bonus Kokomi gains from her Max HP receives a further increase equal to 15% of her Healing Bonus. Since Kokomi naturally has a 25% Healing Bonus from her passive and gains more from Healing Bonus artifacts, this passive pushes her on-field damage during Burst state noticeably higher without requiring any additional investment.
Utility Passive – Princess of Watatsumi
Decreases all party members’ Swimming Stamina consumption by 20%. Does not stack with similar passives. A useful exploration bonus given how much water is found around Inazuma and Fontaine, and also simply when traversing open-world environments with rivers and lakes.
Talent Priority for Kokomi
- Elemental Skill first – Kurage’s Oath (Bake-Kurage) is her primary off-field healing and Hydro application tool. Higher talent levels increase both its healing output and its Hydro DMG ticks. Level to at least 8–9.
- Elemental Burst second – Nereid’s Ascension boosts her on-field healing per hit and her personal damage during Burst state. Worth leveling to 8.
- Normal Attack last – Her Normal Attacks deal good damage during Burst state, but the scaling gains from talent levels are lower than her Skill and Burst. This is her lowest priority in most builds.
Best Weapons for Kokomi
5-Star Weapons
- Everlasting Moonglow – Her signature weapon and best-in-slot for healer builds. Provides a high base HP stat and a Healing Bonus passive, both of which scale her healing and on-field damage simultaneously. Its passive also regenerates Energy for Kokomi after her Normal Attacks hit opponents, significantly reducing her Energy Recharge requirements. One of the cleanest signature weapons in the game — everything it provides is exactly what she needs.
- A Thousand Floating Dreams – Provides Elemental Mastery and a team EM buff. Best for Bloom driver builds where stacking EM is the priority. Also a great weapon on Sucrose but works well on Kokomi in dedicated Bloom compositions.
4-Star Weapons
- Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers (3-star) – Her best free option for team-support builds. It provides no healing stats but gives a massive 48% ATK buff to the next character she swaps to (active for 10 seconds, 30-second cooldown). If Kokomi is a quick-swap healer who deploys her jellyfish, activates Burst briefly, and immediately swaps to her main DPS, this weapon effectively gives her main DPS an extra ATK main stat. The team damage gain often outweighs the benefit of a dedicated healer weapon.
- Prototype Amber (Craftable) – Provides HP% and restores Energy and HP to team members when Kokomi uses her Burst. Solves her energy needs while also providing a small team heal on Burst use. One of the best craftable options and freely available to all players.
- Sacrificial Fragments – Provides Elemental Mastery and can reset her Elemental Skill cooldown on a CRIT hit. Since Kokomi cannot CRIT, the reset passive will not trigger for her. However, the EM stat stick is excellent for Bloom builds where EM is the priority stat.
- Hakushin Ring (Craftable) – Provides Energy Recharge and buffs both Electro and Hydro DMG for the team after Kokomi triggers an Electro-related reaction. Specifically strong in Electro-Charged and Taser teams where reactions are constant. A niche but potent option in those specific setups.
Best Artifacts for Kokomi
Healer Build – 4-Piece Tenacity of the Millelith
Her best artifact set for team-support builds. The 4-piece bonus gives all party members a 20% ATK buff and 30% Shield Strength buff for 3 seconds whenever Kokomi’s Elemental Skill hits an enemy. Her Bake-Kurage hits every 2 seconds, meaning this buff has near-100% uptime as long as enemies are in range. The 2-piece gives 20% HP, boosting her healing. This set turns Kokomi into both a top-tier healer and a passive team damage amplifier — she provides the team ATK buff automatically without any additional effort.
Alternative – 4-Piece Ocean-Hued Clam
Her best set for maximizing her own personal damage output. The 4-piece converts overhealing into a Physical damage bubble that periodically deals AoE damage. Since Kokomi heals so much that allies are often already at full HP, excess healing generates these bubbles frequently. Provides a meaningful damage contribution alongside her healing. Best for on-field DPS Kokomi builds where she stays in Burst state and attacks actively. Less team-buffing than Tenacity but adds more individual damage.
Alternative – 4-Piece Song of Days Past
A more recent artifact set that provides Healing Bonus and converts healing output into a team DMG bonus over time. The more Kokomi heals, the higher the team DMG buff stacks. Works well in teams where Kokomi heals constantly and the DMG bonus can be fully utilized by on-field DPS characters. Worth considering for premium healer builds alongside Everlasting Moonglow.
Bloom Driver Build – 4-Piece Flower of Paradise Lost
If using Kokomi as the main Bloom driver in Hyperbloom or Bloom teams, this set significantly increases Bloom and Hyperbloom reaction damage. The 4-piece bonus provides EM and boosts Bloom-related reaction damage. Pair with full EM main stats across all three artifact pieces for maximum Bloom seed explosion damage.
Recommended Artifact Main Stats
For healer builds:
- Sands: HP% or Energy Recharge
- Goblet: HP%
- Circlet: Healing Bonus
For Bloom driver builds:
- Sands: Elemental Mastery
- Goblet: Elemental Mastery
- Circlet: Elemental Mastery
Recommended Substats
For healer: HP% > Energy Recharge (aim for 180–220%) > Healing Bonus > HP flat. For Bloom: Elemental Mastery > Energy Recharge > HP%. Never invest in CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG on any build.
Best Team Compositions for Kokomi
Kokomi Hyperbloom Team (SS Tier)
- Sangonomiya Kokomi (On-Field Hydro Driver) + Nahida (Dendro) + Raiden Shogun (Electro Hyperbloom Trigger) + Kaedehara Kazuha (Anemo Grouper / Buffer)
This is consistently ranked as one of Kokomi’s absolute best teams and one of the top reaction teams in the game. Kokomi stays on-field during her Burst state, applying consistent Hydro with her Normal Attacks. Nahida applies Dendro through her Skill to create Bloom seeds with Kokomi’s Hydro. Raiden Shogun’s off-field Electro detonates the seeds into Hyperbloom — an explosive Dendro reaction that scales with the Electro character’s EM. Kazuha groups enemies together for more consistent seed generation and applies VV shred. Kokomi heals the team through the self-damage that Hyperbloom seeds sometimes deal to players. A near self-sufficient, high-damage, high-survivability team.
Kokomi Freeze Team (Classic)
- Kamisato Ayaka (Cryo Main DPS) + Shenhe (Cryo Buffer) + Kaedehara Kazuha (Anemo Grouper) + Sangonomiya Kokomi (Healer / Hydro)
Kokomi is the definitive Hydro support for Freeze teams. Her Bake-Kurage applies Hydro off-field every 2 seconds, giving Ayaka’s Cryo attacks a constant Freeze trigger with no gaps in uptime. Kokomi heals through any damage the team takes while simultaneously keeping enemies frozen. Kazuha groups enemies, swirls Cryo for VV shred, and shares Elemental DMG Bonus. Shenhe buffs Cryo damage. A smooth, reliable, and powerful Freeze composition where Kokomi’s Hydro application is the cornerstone that holds everything together.
Kokomi Vaporize Team
- Hu Tao or Yoimiya (Pyro Main DPS) + Yelan (Hydro Sub-DPS) + Sangonomiya Kokomi (Healer / Hydro) + Kazuha or Zhongli (Support)
Kokomi’s consistent Hydro application allows Pyro DPS characters to trigger Vaporize reliably. Her healing keeps the team alive, particularly important in Hu Tao’s case where she fights at low HP. Yelan adds additional off-field Hydro damage. Kokomi acts as the team’s safety net while also contributing to the Hydro aura maintenance that makes Vaporize reactions consistent. For Hu Tao specifically, Kokomi is one of the few healers who doesn’t force Hu Tao above the HP threshold her passive requires.
Kokomi Taser / Electro-Charged Team
- Sangonomiya Kokomi (Hydro On-Field) + Fischl (Electro Sub-DPS) + Beidou (Electro Sub-DPS) + Kazuha (Anemo Buffer)
A classic Taser composition with Kokomi as the on-field driver applying Hydro through Normal Attacks while in Burst state. Fischl’s Oz and Beidou’s Burst apply off-field Electro for constant Electro-Charged reactions. Kazuha groups enemies and applies VV shred. Kokomi heals the team throughout. A strong budget-friendly composition that works without any 5-star supports beyond Kokomi herself.
Kokomi Pure Hydro Team
- Sangonomiya Kokomi + Yelan + Xingqiu + Kaedehara Kazuha
A triple Hydro team that leverages Hydro Resonance for an HP and healing bonus. Kokomi provides healing and on-field Hydro. Yelan and Xingqiu deal off-field Hydro damage and amplify the active character’s damage through their Bursts. Kazuha provides Anemo RES shred, grouping, and Swirl-based buffs. A versatile team for AoE content where Hydro application and sustained damage are the priority.
For building other Hydro characters who work alongside Kokomi, see our guides on Yelan, Xingqiu, and Furina.
Kokomi Constellations Guide
Kokomi is a 5-star limited character, making constellations expensive. She is fully functional and excellent at C0. Here is what each constellation provides:
- C1 – At Water’s Edge: While donning the Ceremonial Garment from Nereid’s Ascension, the final Normal Attack in Kokomi’s combo unleashes a swimming fish that deals 30% of her Max HP as Hydro DMG. This adds a bonus Hydro hit to her rotation during Burst state at no extra cost. A meaningful personal damage boost.
- C2 – The Clouds Like Waves Rippling: Kokomi gains increased Healing Bonuses for characters with 50% or less HP — both from her Bake-Kurage and her on-field Normal Attacks during Burst. This makes her emergency healing more powerful, specifically targeting low-HP party members with stronger heals when they need it most.
- C3 – Eclipse At the End of Days: Increases Nereid’s Ascension (Elemental Burst) level by 3 (max level 15). A direct damage and healing boost to her Burst state.
- C4 – Moonlit Tetra-Eel: While donning the Ceremonial Garment, Kokomi’s Normal Attack speed increases by 10% and her Normal Attacks restore 0.8 Energy every 0.2 seconds on hit. This significantly increases her hit rate and essentially solves her Energy Recharge needs — she no longer requires nearly as much ER from artifacts, freeing up substats for HP and Healing Bonus. A very strong Quality of Life constellation.
- C5 – Luminous Vasculature: Increases Kurage’s Oath (Elemental Skill) level by 3 (max level 15). Boosts the Bake-Kurage’s healing and Hydro damage ticks.
- C6 – Sango Isshin: While donning the Ceremonial Garment, Kokomi gains a 40% Hydro DMG Bonus for 4 seconds whenever her Normal or Charged Attacks heal a party member with 80% or more HP. Since the team is usually at high HP during her Burst, this buff activates frequently, substantially increasing her on-field damage output. Her strongest personal damage constellation.
Summary: C0 Kokomi is fully viable in all content. C4 is her most quality-of-life improving constellation, solving Energy Recharge needs elegantly. C6 provides a notable on-field damage boost. None of her constellations are strictly required, but each one adds something meaningful.
Kokomi Ascension Materials
To fully ascend Kokomi from Level 1 to Level 90, you need:
- Varunada Lazurite (Sliver, Fragment, Chunk, Gemstone) – Dropped by Hydro bosses including the Hydro Hypostasis, Oceanid, Coral Defenders, Hydro Tulpa, and others. Can also be crafted through alchemy.
- Dew of Repudiation – Dropped by the Hydro Hypostasis boss, located on Watatsumi Island in Inazuma. Costs 40 Original Resin per claim. You need 46 total. As Watatsumi’s boss, this is conveniently located near most of Kokomi’s other materials.
- Sango Pearl – A local specialty exclusive to Watatsumi Island and the underwater area of Enkanomiya beneath it. Found along the coastlines and in the waters around Watatsumi. You need 168 total. They regrow every 2–3 days. Since almost all of Kokomi’s materials are on Watatsumi Island, farming her ascension can be done in a very concentrated area.
- Spectral drops (Spectral Husk, Spectral Heart, Spectral Nucleus) – Dropped by Specter enemies found in abundance on Watatsumi Island. These floating enemies are Kokomi’s home island’s most common mob type, making them easy to farm while collecting other materials.
Kokomi Talent Materials
To fully upgrade all three of Kokomi’s talents, you need:
- Teachings, Guide, and Philosophies of Transience – Obtained from the Violet Court domain in Inazuma on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
- Spectral drops (all three tiers) – Same drops as her ascension material. Farm Specters on Watatsumi Island.
- Hellfire Butterfly – A weekly boss drop from defeating La Signora at her trounce domain in Inazuma. You need 18 total across all talents. Unlocked by completing the relevant Archon Quest chapter in Inazuma.
- Crown of Insight – Required to max any talent to level 10. Obtained from limited-time events and special offerings.
One of the most convenient things about Kokomi is that nearly all her ascension materials — Sango Pearls, Spectral drops, the Hydro Hypostasis, and Specter enemies — are concentrated on Watatsumi Island itself. A single efficient farming route around Watatsumi covers most of what you need.
Should You Pull for Kokomi?
Kokomi is one of the most versatile and universally useful characters in Genshin Impact. She is the gold standard for dedicated healers and fits into nearly every team that needs a Hydro character.
She is an excellent pull if you:
- Need a reliable, consistent healer who also applies Hydro for free.
- Run Freeze teams and want the most stable Hydro application available.
- Play Hyperbloom or Bloom teams and want the best on-field Hydro driver.
- Want a character who can solo the healing role in virtually any composition without needing a shield or a second healer.
She is less necessary if you already have strong healers like Jean or Baizhu and don’t specifically need Hydro application. However, even then, Kokomi’s Hydro utility in Freeze and reaction teams is unique enough that many dedicated players keep both her and another healer in their roster.
Kokomi vs Furina – When to Use Each
This is a common question for players who have both. Here is a quick breakdown:
- Kokomi is a pure healer who also provides continuous Hydro application. She keeps the team alive reliably and applies Hydro both off-field and on-field. Choose Kokomi when your team needs healing and Hydro in the same slot.
- Furina is a damage amplifier who drains HP to generate Fanfare buffs. She deals off-field Hydro damage and massively boosts team damage, but she makes the team lose HP — requiring a dedicated healer like Kokomi or Xianyun alongside her. Choose Furina when you want maximum team damage amplification.
- Kokomi and Furina are not competitors for the same slot in the best teams. Furina pairs best with a healer, and Kokomi is one of the best healers to run alongside Furina. Many top-tier teams use both together.
Kokomi Quick Tips
- Never build CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG on Kokomi. Her -100% CRIT Rate passive makes these stats completely useless. Every piece of CRIT substat rolled on her artifacts is wasted potential. Reroll or replace artifacts with non-CRIT substats where possible.
- Deploy her Bake-Kurage before activating her Burst. This way, her 1st Ascension Passive refreshes the jellyfish’s duration when she enters Ceremonial Garment state, extending its uptime without needing to redeploy it mid-Burst.
- In Freeze teams, keep enemies in range of the Bake-Kurage’s AoE. If enemies move away from the jellyfish, Kokomi loses her off-field Hydro application and the team’s Freeze uptime suffers. Use grouping characters like Venti or Kazuha to keep enemies clustered near the jellyfish.
- For Hyperbloom builds, aim for 800–1000 Elemental Mastery. Kokomi herself does not trigger Hyperbloom (that is the Electro character’s job), but her EM increases the Bloom seed damage she creates when Hydro reacts with Dendro, and indirectly speeds up seed generation.
- The Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers 3-star weapon is genuinely competitive for Kokomi as a pure support. The 48% ATK buff on swap is one of the strongest team buffs in the game from a weapon passive. Don’t dismiss it just because it’s a 3-star.
- Kokomi can walk on water’s surface during her Elemental Burst. This is a unique exploration utility that makes her helpful for crossing water without needing Kaeya’s ice bridges or Mona’s Illusory Torrent sprint.
