TL;DR
- Console commands in Witcher 3 are PC-only. They do not work on PlayStation or Xbox.
- You must manually enable the debug console first by editing the general.ini file before any commands work.
- Open the console in-game with the tilde key (~) or F2, type the command, then press Enter.
- Commands are case-sensitive — type them exactly as listed or they will not work.
- Key commands include god (invincibility), addmoney, additem, setlevel, addgwintcards, and teleport shortcuts.
- Console commands work in the base game plus all DLC including Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
Console commands in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt let you do things the game never officially lets you do. You can turn on god mode, max out your level instantly, add any item to your inventory, win Gwent matches automatically, teleport across the map, and a lot more.
This guide covers everything you need. How to enable the debug console, how to use it, and a full list of every command organized by category so you can find what you need fast.
Important: Console commands are only available on PC. They do not work on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch 2 versions of the game — including the Remastered edition on those platforms.
How to Enable the Console in Witcher 3
The debug console is not turned on by default. You need to edit one game file before any commands will work. Here is exactly how to do it.
Step 1 — Find Your Game Files
If you own the game through Steam, open Steam and right-click on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in your library. Select Properties, then click Local Files, then click Browse Local Files.
If you own the game through GOG or any other launcher, open Windows Explorer and navigate manually to where the game is installed on your PC.
Step 2 — Open the General.ini File
Inside the game’s main folder, navigate through the following subfolders in order: bin → config → base. Inside the base folder you will find a file called general.ini. Right-click it and open it with Notepad or any text editor.
Step 3 — Add the Debug Console Line
Scroll to the very bottom of the general.ini file. Add a new blank line and type exactly the following:
DBGConsoleOn=true
Save the file and close it.
Step 4 — Open the Console In-Game
Launch The Witcher 3. Once you are in-game, press the tilde key (~) to open the debug console. On some keyboards or regional layouts this may be F2 or the @ key instead. The console appears as a text input box on your screen.
Type any command from the lists below and press Enter to execute it. Press the tilde key again to close the console.
Key Rules to Remember
- Commands are case-sensitive. Type them exactly as written. God will not work — god will.
- Commands that require a value use parentheses. For example: addmoney(1000) adds 1000 Crowns. Do not include brackets or spaces.
- Commands that take 0 or 1 as a value use 0 to turn something off and 1 to turn it on.
- If a command does not work, check your spelling and parentheses first.
God Mode and Combat Commands
These are the most commonly used commands for making combat easier or testing things without consequences.
- god — Toggles invincibility on and off. While active, nothing can kill you. Type it again to turn it off.
- likeaboss — Toggles a mode where every hit you land deals 40% of the enemy’s maximum health as damage. Enemies die in two or three hits at most.
- healme — Instantly restores Geralt’s health to full. Use this any time you take heavy damage without wanting to reload.
- killall(distance) — Instantly kills all enemies within the specified radius. Replace distance with a number in metres. Example: killall(50) kills everything within 50 metres of Geralt.
- dismember — Dismembers the currently targeted NPC.
Character and Level Commands
Use these to change Geralt’s level, switch playable characters, or add experience without grinding.
- setlevel(number) — Sets your character level to any number. Example: setlevel(50) instantly puts you at level 50. Works on any level up to the game’s cap.
- levelup — Levels your character up by exactly one level. Useful if you just need one more level for a skill or gear requirement.
- addexp(amount) — Gives your character the specified amount of experience points. Example: addexp(50000).
- Ciri — Switches the playable character to Ciri. Note the capital C — it must be typed exactly like this.
- Geralt — Switches the playable character back to Geralt. Capital G required.
- testpause — Pauses the game entirely.
- testunpause — Resumes the game after a testpause.

Skills and Ability Commands
These commands let you learn any skill, add skill points, or apply buffs without spending time in the skill menu.
- addskillpoints(amount) — Adds the specified number of ability points. Example: addskillpoints(50) gives you 50 points to spend on skills.
- learnskill(‘skill_id’) — Learns the specified skill. The skill ID must be placed inside single quotation marks. Re-entering the same command again levels the skill up further. Example: learnskill(‘sword_s1’). A full list of skill IDs is available at commands.gg/witcher3.
- addabl(‘buff_id’) — Adds a specific buff or ability to your character. Use single quotes around the buff ID.
- removeabl(‘buff_id’) — Removes the specified buff from your character.
- buffme(‘effect_type_id’, seconds) — Applies a temporary status effect for the specified duration in seconds. Effect type IDs are listed at commands.gg/witcher3/effect-types.
- Cat(1) — Activates the Cat potion effect, letting you see clearly in the dark without using a potion.
- Cat(0) — Disables the Cat night vision effect.

Money and Item Commands
These commands let you add or remove Crowns and get any item in the game instantly.

- removemoney(amount) — Removes the specified amount of Crowns. Example: removemoney(1000).
- additem(‘item_code’, amount) — Adds any item to your inventory. The item code goes inside single quotation marks. The amount value is optional — leave it out to get one copy. Example: additem(‘Gnomish Gwyhyr’, 1). A full list of item codes is available at commands.gg/witcher3/item-codes.
- removeitem(‘item_code’) — Removes the specified item from your inventory.
- addkeys — Gives Geralt every key in the game. Unlocks all doors that require a key.
- witchcraft — Adds one of every single item in the game to your inventory at once. Warning: This command loads an enormous amount of data and will likely cause your game to freeze or crash. Use it with caution and save before running it.
Specific item batch commands let you add groups of items at once without finding individual codes:
- addsteelswords — Adds a set of steel swords to your inventory
- addsilverswords — Adds a set of silver swords
- addarmor — Adds a set of armor pieces
- addboots — Adds boots to your inventory
- addgloves — Adds gloves

Do Console Commands Work in Witcher 3 Remastered?
Yes — on PC only. The Remastered version on PC uses the same debug console system as the original game. The same general.ini file edit applies and all commands listed in this guide work. The Remastered version on Nintendo Switch 2 and other consoles does not support console commands at all.
For more guides covering the Remastered version, see our Witcher 3 Remastered: Patch 5.0 All Changes Explained, our Path Tracing PC Settings guide, and our PC System Requirements guide. For the full level cap and experience system without cheats, see our Level Up and XP Sources guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do Witcher 3 console commands work on PS5 or Xbox?
No. Console commands are PC-exclusive. There is no way to access the debug console on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, or Nintendo Switch. This includes the Remastered version on those platforms.
How do I open the debug console in Witcher 3?
After editing general.ini to add DBGConsoleOn=true and saving the file, launch the game and press the tilde key (~). On some keyboards or regional layouts it may be F2 or the @ key. The console appears as a text box. Type your command and press Enter.
Why is my console command not working?
Commands are case-sensitive. Check that you typed the command exactly as listed, including correct capitalisation and proper use of parentheses. Also confirm that DBGConsoleOn=true was saved correctly in the general.ini file and that you restarted the game after making the edit.
Does the witchcraft command actually give every item?
Yes, but it attempts to load every single item in the game’s database into your inventory at once. This creates a massive spike in processing load and very frequently causes the game to freeze or crash. Always save your game before using witchcraft.
Can I add Gwent cards I missed using console commands?
Yes. The addgwintcards command adds one of every Gwent card except Vampire: Katakan. Use additem(‘gwint_card_katakan’) for that one. This is a useful backup if you missed a missable card. For legitimate collection guides, see our Witcher 3: All Missable Gwent Cards guide.
Can I use console commands to get to max level instantly?
Yes. Type setlevel(100) to jump to level 100 immediately, or whatever number you want up to the level cap. Our Level Up and XP Sources guide covers what the actual cap is and what to expect when you get there legitimately.
What is the best console command for getting money fast?
Type addmoney(9999999) for the maximum sensible Crown value. You can adjust the number down if you want something less extreme. For earning Crowns without cheats, our Crown Farming guide covers the best legitimate methods.
