007 First Light Surrender Challenge: How to Talk to a Guard and Turn Yourself In

The 007 First Light Surrender Challenge requires Bond to identify himself to a Webb Security guard during Wave of the Future. Here is the full step-by-step guide.

The 007 First Light Surrender Challenge is one of the more unusual objectives in the Wave of the Future mission. Instead of sneaking, hacking, or fighting your way into the Security Office, you walk up to a Webb Security guard and turn yourself in. It sounds simple, but it only works after a specific set of steps. This guide covers exactly what to do from start to finish.

TL;DR

  • The Surrender challenge is in the Wave of the Future mission during the Security Office section
  • You must read the Security Memo first — this unlocks the “David Somerset” dialogue option
  • To reach the memo: go to the Legal Department, eavesdrop, hack the photocopier, hack the charging station, then read the memo in the cubicle
  • After reading the memo, find the Webb Security guard near the break room table
  • Talk to him and choose: “I am David Somerset”
  • He escorts you to the Security Office — no sneaking needed
  • Once inside, fight three hostiles, then use the upgrade station to complete the ID Bracelet objective

What Is the Surrender Challenge?

The Surrender challenge is one of three optional ways to reach the Security Office during the Wave of the Future mission in 007 First Light. The main objective is to upgrade Bond’s ID Bracelet so he can access the Command Centre. The Security Office is where the upgrade station is located — but it is locked, and getting inside requires some creativity.

Most players try to find a vent or sneak past guards. The Surrender challenge takes the opposite approach entirely. Bond identifies himself to a guard using a cover name — David Somerset — and lets the guard escort him straight to the Security Office. It is one of the fastest routes to the upgrade station, though it comes with a fight waiting on the other side.

The Surrender challenge sits alongside Attention to Detail and Snoop Around as the three challenge-linked Security Office entry methods in this mission. For the Snoop Around approach and its math puzzle, see the Math Puzzle and Snoop Around challenge guide. For everything else in Wave of the Future, the full Wave of the Future challenges guide has you covered.

Before You Can Surrender — Read the Security Memo First

You cannot just walk up to any guard and turn yourself in. The “David Somerset” dialogue option only becomes available after Bond reads the Security Memo hidden in the Legal Department. This is the key prerequisite. Skip this step and the surrender option will not appear in conversation.

Here is how to find and read the Security Memo.

Step 1 — Head to the Legal Department

Once your objective becomes “Upgrade the ID Bracelet in the Security Office,” take the stairs on the left down to the lower floor. Head left and you will find the Legal Department office. There is a guard standing outside it. Do not engage him — eavesdrop on the nearby conversation instead. This starts the Security Memo sub-objective and causes one of the NPCs inside the office to leave.

Step 2 — Hack the Photocopier

With one NPC gone, you can move into the Legal Department more freely. Use your Q-Watch to hack the photocopier inside the office. This creates a distraction that pulls the attention of the remaining NPC away from the area, giving you a clear path to move forward.

Step 3 — Find the Cubicle and Hack the Charging Station

Sneak through to the right side of the Legal Department and enter the cubicle area. There are two NPCs inside. Wait for them to talk to each other, then use your Q-Watch to hack the nearby charging station. Both NPCs will turn their heads toward the hacked device. With their attention diverted, move past them to the cubicle on the right.

Step 4 — Read the Security Memo

Inside the cubicle on the right, you will find the Security Memo. Interact with it to read it. This is the trigger that unlocks the Surrender dialogue. The moment Bond reads the memo, the “I am David Somerset” option becomes available when talking to a Webb Security guard.

After reading it, you have two choices for leaving the cubicle — get caught by a guard on the way out, or leave via stealth. Either works. What matters is that the memo has been read.

How to Complete the Surrender Challenge

With the Security Memo read, you are now ready to trigger the challenge.

Step 5 — Find the Webb Security Guard

After leaving the Legal Department area, look for a Webb Security guard near the break room table. This is the specific guard set up for the Surrender interaction. He is not far from where you exited the cubicle. Approach him to initiate a conversation.

Step 6 — Choose “I Am David Somerset”

When the dialogue options appear, select: “I am David Somerset.”

Bond calmly identifies himself using this cover name. The guard accepts it and agrees to take Bond to the Security Office. The Surrender challenge completes at this point. No fighting, no sneaking, no keypad codes. The guard simply walks Bond to the door.

What Happens Inside the Security Office

Do not relax too soon. Getting escorted to the Security Office is the easy part — the moment you step inside, the situation changes. Three hostile NPCs are waiting inside the Security Office. You will need to fight all three before you can reach the upgrade station.

Stay ready for a melee or close-quarters brawl. Use the environment to your advantage — shove enemies into furniture, use counters and grabs, and clear the room before interacting with anything. Once all three are down, approach the upgrade station and interact with it to upgrade Bond’s ID Bracelet. This completes the bracelet objective and unlocks access to the Command Centre.

While you are inside, check the desk for the M Profile Intel collectible. It is sitting right there and is easy to miss if you rush to the upgrade station and head straight back out.

Why Use the Surrender Route?

The Surrender method is arguably the most direct route to the Security Office of the three challenge options. You do not need to find a safe key, solve a math puzzle, or navigate a vent shaft. Once the Security Memo is read, it is a short walk and a single dialogue choice away.

The trade-off is the three-way fight inside. The Snoop Around vent route avoids combat entirely, making it better for stealth and pacifist runs. The Surrender route is better for players who are comfortable with the game’s melee system and want a quicker, more direct path.

Can You Do Surrender and Snoop Around in the Same Run?

No. Both challenges send Bond into the Security Office via different routes — surrendering to a guard versus entering through a hidden vent after using the Archives code. You cannot do both entry methods in a single playthrough of this section. You will need to replay the relevant checkpoint to earn the other. Use the mission replay feature to jump back to the checkpoint and try the alternate method without restarting the whole chapter.

The Three Security Office Challenge Methods — Summary

  • Surrender — Read the Security Memo, find the Webb Security guard near the break room, choose “I am David Somerset.” Fight three hostiles inside. (This guide)
  • Snoop Around — Get the Office Key from the lower floor, find the Note With Keypad Puzzle in the Locker Room, solve it to get code 1864, enter it at the Archives door, and crawl through the vent. See the Snoop Around challenge guide.
  • Attention to Detail — Get the Safe Key from the Legal Department, distract the NPCs in the Office, open the safe under the desk to find code 1864, use it at the Archives door, enter via the vent.

All three routes lead to the same upgrade station. Each one unlocks a separate challenge. Plan two separate checkpoint replays to earn all three.

Tips for the Surrender Challenge

  • Read the Security Memo before anything else. The dialogue option does not appear without it. Do not go looking for the guard until the memo is read.
  • Do not alert the guard in the Legal Department. You need to eavesdrop to start the sub-objective, not trigger a combat encounter. Stay out of his line of sight.
  • Wait for the NPC conversation before hacking the charging station. Hacking too early may not fully divert their attention. Let the two NPCs finish their exchange first.
  • Prepare for the three-way fight. Once inside the Security Office, clear the room completely before going to the upgrade station. Trying to interact with the terminal while enemies are active will get you hit.
  • Pick up the M Profile Intel. It is on the desk inside. It is a collectible and it will not appear again if you miss it here, though you can replay the checkpoint to retrieve it.
  • Use gadgets in the fight if needed. You are not unarmed inside the Security Office. If the three guards are giving you trouble, your gadgets and pistol are available. A well-timed Phone Dart or Smoke Pod can break up the fight in your favour. Check the best gadget loadout guide for recommended setups going into this section.

About Wave of the Future

Wave of the Future is Mission 16 in 007 First Light — the penultimate chapter of the campaign. It takes place inside Webb Industries’ Robotics and Operations facility and has 24 challenges in total. The Surrender challenge is one of the harder ones to find naturally because it depends on reading an easily missable document first. Most players do not discover the “David Somerset” option until a second run.

For a full breakdown of all 24 challenges in this mission, see the Wave of the Future all challenges guide.
