- Prerequisite: Complete the Out of Sight quest for Thorus and remove Mordrag from the Old Camp first.
- After Mordrag is gone, Fisk stops you near the Old Camp marketplace and asks you to find a replacement fence.
- Travel to the New Camp and find Sharky inside the cave settlement — he agrees to take the job after a short conversation.
- Return to Fisk in the Old Camp to finish the quest and collect 300 XP.
- Completing this quest earns Fisk’s support, which matters directly for your admission into the Shadows and the Casting Shadows quest.
- If you need an escort to the New Camp, Drax can guide you after you return his knife.
- The tavern in the New Camp charges 100 nuggets to enter — but you can skip the fee by telling the guard you are a Scraper.
A New Fence for Fisk is a short but consequential side quest in Gothic 1 Remake. It unlocks after you remove Mordrag during Out of Sight, and it sends you across the map to the New Camp to recruit a replacement contact for Fisk’s black market operation. Getting this done keeps Fisk on your side — and his vote is one you need if you want to join the Shadows.
How to Start A New Fence for Fisk in Gothic 1 Remake
You cannot trigger this quest until Mordrag has left the Old Camp. That only happens once you complete the Out of Sight quest for Thorus. Either kill Mordrag outright or convince him to escort you to the New Camp — both outcomes work.
Once Mordrag is gone, head to the marketplace in the Old Camp. Fisk is usually sitting on a bench in front of his hut, east of the castle entrance near the central firepit area. Walk close enough and the conversation triggers automatically.
Fisk is not happy. He tells you that forcing Mordrag out has cut off his supply line, and he threatens to block your admission into the Shadows unless you fix it. Choose the option “Relax, I’m sure we can fix this” to officially start the quest.

Where to Find a New Fence for Fisk — Sharky Location in the New Camp
The only lead Fisk gives you is that Mordrag came from the New Camp. That is where you need to go.
The New Camp is in the far west of the map. If you have not been there yet, see our guide on how to reach the New Camp in Gothic 1 Remake. The route passes through animal territory that can kill an underleveled character fast. Do not rush this if your gear is still weak.

Once you enter the New Camp’s cave settlement, descend to the lower path and stick left. You will pass Wedge and a bandit. Keep going a little further and you will spot Sharky sitting on a wooden bench on the right side of the path — he is hard to miss once you know where to look.

Speak with Sharky and choose the dialogue option: “Fisk, from the Old Camp, is looking for a new fence.” After a short back-and-forth, Sharky agrees to take the job.
What About Cipher in the New Camp Tavern?
Some guides send you to Cipher first. Cipher sits in the lake tavern, east of the New Camp cave. He acts as a lead-in and points you toward Sharky. You do not need to speak with Cipher to complete the quest — going straight to Sharky works fine.
If you do visit the tavern, the door guard charges 100 ore nuggets to enter. You can avoid this entirely by telling him you are a Scraper. If you need nuggets fast, check our guide on how to get money and ore nuggets fast.
How to Get an Escort to the New Camp If You Killed Mordrag
Mordrag normally offers to escort you to the New Camp. If you killed him instead, you lost that option. Drax is the alternative.
You likely met Drax near the hunting grounds when his friend Ratford stopped you on the road to the Old Camp. Drax will only escort you after you retrieve his hunting knife. The knife is near the first scavenger you encounter before the sloped path up to the Old Camp.
Escorts handle most threats along the road, but they can die. Stay close and stay alert. If you prefer to go alone, use the full route breakdown in our New Camp travel guide.
How to Return to the Old Camp Without a Map
No map? No problem. Exit through the New Camp’s front gate. Take the road immediately to your left. Cross the bridge on your right when you reach it. Follow the road straight and it brings you all the way back to the Old Camp hub.
If you have not picked up a map yet, see our guide on how to get a map in Gothic 1 Remake.
A New Fence for Fisk Rewards and What They Unlock
Once you return to Fisk and tell him Sharky is on board, the quest closes immediately.
- 300 XP
- Fisk’s support — he will no longer block your admission into the Shadows
- Fisk puts in a good word with Diego, which feeds directly into your progress on the Casting Shadows quest
That last reward is the one that matters most in 2026’s Gothic 1 Remake playthrough. Fisk is one of the key Shadows whose vote you need. Without his support, admission stalls. This quest is short and the 300 XP is worth the walk.
Does It Matter How You Removed Mordrag?
No. Whether you killed Mordrag or convinced him to leave for the New Camp, the outcome is the same for this quest. Fisk loses his fence either way, and A New Fence for Fisk becomes available regardless of which approach you took.
If you are still deciding how to handle Mordrag, see our Out of Sight quest guide for a breakdown of both options.
Tips Before You Make the Trip
- Check your gear before you leave. The road to the New Camp has enemies that hit hard at low levels.
- If you still need your first decent weapon, our guide on best early weapons in Gothic 1 Remake covers your options.
- The whole quest is a travel-and-dialogue loop. There is no combat required once you are on the road with an escort.
- Sharky will not refuse. The dialogue option succeeds every time — no stat checks, no skill requirements.
- This quest is available in Chapter 1. Do not leave it too late if you are pushing toward Old Camp admission.
