All healing upgrade locations in Mortal Shell 2 are easy to miss because none of them are marked on the map and the game gives you no tracker to tell you how many you have found. There are 23 in total — 12 Revered Glands and 11 Synaptic Vessels — spread across every major region from Marrow Keep to the Sanguine Caverns. Revered Glands add charges to your Mether’s Pulse healing flask, while Synaptic Vessels increase how much health each charge restores. You start with 3 charges. Grabbing every upgrade in the game gives you a significantly stronger healing pool for every boss fight and long exploration run. None of these pickups are missable — you can collect them all in free roam after the final boss before entering New Game Plus. This guide lists every single one with a clear location. Before you set out, use fast travel between Beacons to reach each area efficiently, and check our Mortal Shell 2 beginner’s guide if you are still learning the game’s core systems.
TL;DR – Healing Upgrades in Mortal Shell 2 Quick Facts
- There are 23 healing upgrades total: 12 Revered Glands (add flask charges) and 11 Synaptic Vessels (increase heal amount per charge).
- Revered Glands are consumed at any Beacon to increase your Mether’s Pulse capacity — how many times you can heal before resting.
- Synaptic Vessels are consumed at any Beacon to increase Mether’s Pulse efficiency — how much HP each charge restores.
- You must spend both items at a Beacon. Carrying them in your inventory does nothing.
- None are missable — all can be collected after the final boss in free roam before entering NG+.
- There is no in-game tracker for healing upgrades. The only way to know if you missed one is to return to the location and check if the pickup is still there.
- Two early upgrades — one Revered Gland and one Synaptic Vessel — are sold by Merrick in Marrow Keep for 1,500 Gold each. Buy them as soon as his shop opens.
- Healing upgrades carry over into New Game Plus. Your Mether’s Pulse level resets in NG+ but the items respawn, so you can upgrade again.

What Are Revered Glands and Synaptic Vessels?
The Mether’s Pulse is your healing flask in Mortal Shell 2. It works like the Estus Flask in Dark Souls — it refills completely every time you rest at a Beacon, and it has a limited number of charges you burn through during combat and exploration. You start the game with 3 charges, which is enough for the early areas but starts to feel thin once bosses hit harder and runs between Beacons grow longer.
Revered Glands increase the total number of charges on your Mether’s Pulse. Each Gland you consume at a Beacon adds one more charge to your pool. The more Glands you find, the more times you can heal before needing to rest. This is the upgrade to prioritize if you keep running out of healing mid-fight or mid-exploration.
Synaptic Vessels increase how much HP each charge restores. They do not add more charges — they make the ones you already have heal for more. This is the upgrade to prioritize if you still have charges left when you die, because your current healing is too weak to outpace the damage you take.
Both items are consumed the same way. Open the Level Up or rest menu at any Beacon, navigate to the Mether’s Pulse upgrade option, and spend each item. They do not apply automatically. If you carry them in your inventory without spending them, you get no benefit at all. Spend them immediately every time you pick one up. How Many Healing Upgrades Are in Mortal Shell 2?
There are 23 healing upgrades across the entire game. Two of them — one Revered Gland and one Synaptic Vessel — are purchased from Merrick in Marrow Keep for 1,500 Gold each. The other 21 are found in the open world across six regions. The split is 12 Revered Glands and 11 Synaptic Vessels.
Collecting all 23 is not required for any Trophy or Achievement, but the difference in survivability between a fully upgraded Mether’s Pulse and a basic one is significant, especially in late-game boss fights and the Sanguine Caverns. Grab every one you can find as you naturally explore each region rather than leaving them until a cleanup run at the end.
All Healing Upgrade Locations – Marrow Keep
Two upgrades are available from the very beginning of the game at Marrow Keep. Buy both from Merrick as soon as his shop unlocks. His shop is locked on your first visit. Fast travel anywhere on the map and return to Marrow Keep to open it.
- #1 – Revered Gland: Purchased from Merrick in the southern part of Marrow Keep for 1,500 Gold. Buy this as early as possible to push your flask from 3 to 4 charges right at the start.
- #2 – Synaptic Vessel: Also purchased from Merrick in Marrow Keep for 1,500 Gold. Grab this at the same time as the Gland for an immediate healing boost.
All Healing Upgrade Locations – Fainweald
The Fainweald region holds the majority of early healing upgrades. Several are placed just off the main path, so keep an eye on your surroundings as you cleanse Beacons and explore. Knowing all Beacon locations helps you navigate back to these spots quickly.
Stonebled Gate Area
- #3 – Synaptic Vessel: South of Stonebled Gate Beacon in the camp area. Look beside the campfire, next to some boxes on the ground. This is a straightforward open-world pickup that is easy to walk past.
Nocthean Gate Area
- #4 – Revered Gland: From Nocthean Gate Beacon, go north and drop down one level below. Press the switch to open a metal gate leading to the entrance of the Thieves’ Retreat Dungeon. Follow the path through the dungeon over the invisible walkways, using the floating bodies in midair to navigate between turns. The Revered Gland is inside. If you fall down, there are many enemies below but an elevator in the middle of the area can bring you back up to the upper platforms.
Mushroom Village Area
- #5 – Revered Gland: Northwest of Mushroom Village Beacon, north of the Shrine of Trials dungeon entrance. Use Mether’s Breath to clear the corruption blocking the jump pad, then access the upper level and interact with the well to enter the Holding Cells Dungeon. Continue through the upper area of the dungeon until you find a long hallway. Push the button hidden behind some boxes in that hallway to open a gate on the left. The Revered Gland is in the room behind that gate.
- #6 – Synaptic Vessel: North of the Deserted Mine Dungeon entrance. Find the stone circle area with the Trial Obelisk. The Synaptic Vessel is sitting on the east edge of that stone circle, directly on the ground beside the obelisk. You do not need to complete the trial to pick it up.
Outskirts of Nochte Area
- #7 – Synaptic Vessel: South of Outskirts of Nochte Beacon, in the upper castle area. Enter the building on the north interior side and look inside the small room there. The pickup is on the ground inside.
One-Legged Wolf Area
- #8 – Revered Gland: Northwest of One-Legged Wolf Beacon, in the valley area past the ruins. Enter the Grisha Hunting Grounds Dungeon. Progress to the end of the dungeon and defeat the Pale Grisha boss to receive this Revered Gland as a drop.
- #12 – Synaptic Vessel: East of One-Legged Wolf Beacon. Follow the path all the way east through the Bone Gate jump to reach the Temple of Vatra area. Continue further east along the path. The Synaptic Vessel is on the right side of the path before you reach the large set of stairs leading up to the temple itself. It is an open-world pickup on the ground — easy to miss if you are rushing to the temple.
Widow’s Overlook Area
- #9 – Revered Gland: South of Widow’s Overlook Beacon. Follow the path south toward the cliff edge on the west side. The Revered Gland is sitting beside a body near the west cliff edge. This is one of the earliest open-world healing upgrades you can reach and should be grabbed during your initial exploration of this area.
Citadel of Penance Area
- #10 – Revered Gland: Southeast of Citadel of Penance Beacon. Follow the path to the outer area of the castle. Go to the southwestern corner section and look for a breakable wooden wall. Hit it to break through. The Revered Gland is directly behind it. This one is very easy to miss because the breakable wall looks like a normal wall from a distance.
- #11 – Synaptic Vessel: Also in the Citadel of Penance area, near where you unlock Eredrim the Venerable. Face the opposite wall from where Eredrim’s body was and press the button there to open a gate. The Synaptic Vessel is inside that gated room.
All Healing Upgrade Locations – Ruins of Mammon
The Ruins of Mammon region holds several healing upgrades, some of which require completing dungeon sections or accessing areas that are not immediately obvious from the main path.
Sester’s Gate Area
- #13 – Synaptic Vessel: Inside the Sester’s Gate Beacon. Progress through the dungeon to the long bridge section where you need to shoot bells to create the path across. At the far back wall on the ground near some boxes, pick up this Synaptic Vessel. It is lying on the floor and does not require any puzzle or enemy defeat.
Gate of Infinity Area
- #14 – Synaptic Vessel: Inside the Gate of Infinity Beacon. Follow the path through the area until you reach the first spot where you can jump up onto the bookshelves. Once on top, look to the left side relative to where you entered from. The Synaptic Vessel is there on the left side of the bookshelf area.
Castigator’s Keep Area
- #15 – Synaptic Vessel: South of Castigator’s Keep Beacon. Enter the central courtyard of the castle and look in the middle of the open courtyard area. The Synaptic Vessel is sitting on the ground in the center of the courtyard. It is an open pickup with no enemy requirement, but the courtyard has patrolling enemies so clear them first.
Abbey Entrance Area
- #16 – Revered Gland: From Abbey Entrance Beacon, go south and enter the town area. Follow the path east to reach an area outside the castle wall. Find the cave in this area with enemies inside. Destroy the three glowing tombstones inside the cave to open the door at the back. The Revered Gland is through that door.
Abandoned Outpost Area
- #17 – Synaptic Vessel: From Abandoned Outpost Beacon, follow the path southwest and use the jump pad to reach the Slums area. Go to the north side of the church building on the west side of this area. The Synaptic Vessel is on the ground between a group of tombstones on the north side of that building.
High Lord’s Courtyard Area
- #18 – Revered Gland: From High Lord’s Courtyard Beacon, walk counterclockwise around the outer courtyard area. Once you reach the southern side, enter the central long building there. The Revered Gland is on the ground in front of a statue inside this building.
All Healing Upgrade Locations – Glutted Mire
The Glutted Mire is the swamp dungeon region in southeastern Fainweald. Two healing upgrades are found here, both tied to Beacon progression.
- #19 – Synaptic Vessel: Inside the Seeping Mire Beacon. After cleansing the Ova in the boss area, go to the right side of the boss room. There is a small path leading off to the right. The Synaptic Vessel is at the end of that path.
- #20 – Revered Gland: After cleansing the Sunken Village Beacon, turn around and walk back down the hill. Three enemies are standing in front of a container. Now that you have cleansed the Beacon, you can access and open that container. The Revered Gland is inside it. Cleansing the Beacon is what unlocks the container, so this is a pickup you get by revisiting an area you have already passed through.
All Healing Upgrade Locations – Prisoner’s Domain
One healing upgrade is found in the Prisoner’s Domain, a late-game area in the Ruins of Mammon. It requires a small environmental puzzle to access.
- #21 – Revered Gland: From the start of the Prisoner’s Domain area, follow the main path until you reach the dead-end room with the giant statue. Blow up the pots near the statue to cause it to topple over. This creates a ramp or ledge you can climb to reach the upper area. In the next room past all of the iron maidens, the Revered Gland is waiting on the ground. The pot-blowing mechanic is easy to miss on a first visit since the room appears to be a dead end.
All Healing Upgrade Locations – Sanguine Caverns
Two healing upgrades are in the Sanguine Caverns region. One requires breaking through a hidden obstacle, and the other is inside a Beacon dungeon.
- #22 – Synaptic Vessel: From the start of the Sanguine Caverns area, follow the path until you drop down past the first camp area into the larger section with exploding corpse enemies and spider-like baby enemies. Past this group, you will see a wall of spikes with fire visible behind it. Hit the spike wall to make it retract. The Synaptic Vessel is directly behind it.
- #23 – Revered Gland: Inside the Sanguine Shoreline Beacon. Follow the main path through the Beacon area. After the first open area, there is a cave. The Revered Gland is inside that cave, along the main path. This is a straightforward pickup that you will find naturally while progressing through the Beacon dungeon.
How to Use Revered Glands and Synaptic Vessels
Both items are used identically. Walk up to any Beacon and rest at it. In the rest menu, find the Mether’s Pulse upgrade option. If you have a Revered Gland or Synaptic Vessel in your inventory, you can spend it here to upgrade your flask. Each item upgrades it once. You cannot spend them from your inventory outside of a Beacon rest — they only work through this menu.
There is no maximum upgrade level displayed in-game before you reach it. You will know you have maxed out Revered Glands when the Beacon menu no longer lets you spend another one. The same applies to Synaptic Vessels. With all 23 upgrades collected and spent, your Mether’s Pulse will be fully maxed for the run.
Since healing upgrades carry into New Game Plus as usable items again, completing NG+ effectively doubles your upgrade income. However, do not rely on NG+ to compensate for missed pickups — collecting everything in your first run makes the late-game and boss fights significantly more forgiving. See our New Game Plus guide for exactly what carries over and what resets between runs.
Healing Upgrade Tips
- Buy from Merrick first. The two merchant upgrades (#1 and #2) are available from very early and give you an immediate boost from 3 to 4 charges plus better heal-per-charge before you leave Marrow Keep for real. Unlock his shop by fast travelling and returning, then buy both immediately.
- Spend upgrades the moment you find them. There is no reason to hoard them. The instant you pick up a Revered Gland or Synaptic Vessel, visit the nearest Beacon and consume it. The upgrade is only active once spent, and a flask charge you did not have could have saved a run.
- Prioritize Revered Glands if you run out of charges mid-fight. If you consistently reach zero charges and die, more charges help more than stronger ones. Prioritize Synaptic Vessels if you still have charges left when you die, meaning you need each one to do more work.
- Break every wooden wall and wall with a symbol. Several healing upgrades, especially in the Citadel of Penance and castle areas, are hidden behind breakable wooden boards or false walls with white markings. Always try hitting suspicious-looking walls in these areas.
- Clear Beacons before looting the surrounding area. The Sunken Village Revered Gland (#20) only becomes accessible after you cleanse the nearby Beacon. Some pickups are gated on Beacon completion, so clearing the dungeon first is always the right order.
- Use healing upgrades alongside strong Shells and Seals. More healing capacity synergizes directly with which Shell you are using. Some Shells are more fragile and benefit more from extra flask charges. Check our best Shells tier list and our best Seals guide to pair your healing investment with the right defensive setup.
- Healing upgrades are not tracked. Since the game shows no collection counter for these items, keep this guide open as a checklist. The only way to confirm a pickup is gone is to return to the location and check whether it is still there.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many healing upgrades are in Mortal Shell 2?
There are 23 healing upgrades in total — 12 Revered Glands and 11 Synaptic Vessels. Two of them, one of each type, are purchased from Merrick in Marrow Keep for 1,500 Gold each. The remaining 21 are found in the open world across Fainweald, the Ruins of Mammon, the Glutted Mire, the Prisoner’s Domain, and the Sanguine Caverns.
What is the difference between Revered Glands and Synaptic Vessels in Mortal Shell 2?
Revered Glands increase how many times you can use your Mether’s Pulse healing flask before needing to rest at a Beacon. Each Gland adds one charge to your pool. Synaptic Vessels increase how much health each use of the flask restores. They do not add charges — they make existing charges more powerful. Both are consumed at a Beacon rest menu and cannot be used from your inventory directly.
Are healing upgrades missable in Mortal Shell 2?
No. None of the 23 healing upgrades are permanently missable. You can collect every single one in free roam after the final boss, before choosing to start New Game Plus. The game does not track how many you have found, so returning to check each location manually is the only way to confirm you have not missed any.
Do healing upgrades carry over to New Game Plus in Mortal Shell 2?
Your Mether’s Pulse upgrade level does not directly carry over — the world resets and the upgrade items respawn in their locations. However, the upgrades you have already applied persist as your starting level going into NG+, and you can collect and spend all the respawned items again to push your flask even higher across multiple playthroughs.
Bottom Line
Collecting all 23 healing upgrades in Mortal Shell 2 is one of the most impactful things you can do for your survivability and it costs nothing beyond exploration time. Grab the two Merrick upgrades early to push your flask from 3 to 5 charges right away, then work through each region methodically as you explore. The Sanguine Caverns and Prisoner’s Domain upgrades are the ones most players miss on a first run, so pay close attention in those areas. A fully upgraded Mether’s Pulse makes every boss fight more forgiving and every long run between Beacons significantly safer.
