Ancient Rift Puzzle Solution in Crimson Desert

Ancient Rift puzzle solution in Crimson Desert — all three Engraved Stone locations, Blinding Flash pillar steps, hidden chest, and Abyss Cresset reward guide for 2026.

  • The Ancient Rift is a Maze challenge — one of only four in Crimson Desert. It counts toward the Maze Pathfinder achievement.
  • You need Blinding Flash — Concentrated Light unlocked before you can solve any of the three pillar puzzles here.
  • The goal is to collect three Engraved Stones from hidden caves and insert them into a stone structure at the west end of the rift.
  • Each cave is opened by using Blinding Flash on specific runestones to align the pillars and lower the door.
  • The third cave has a shortcut — drop through a hole above it and skip the pillar puzzle entirely.
  • Completing the puzzle unlocks an Abyss Cresset fast travel point and rewards one Abyss Artifact.
  • A hidden bonus chest inside the Ancient’s Heart Cave contains the Vaporwalker unique boots and a Refined Palmar Pill.

The Ancient Rift puzzle solution in Crimson Desert requires finding three Engraved Stones hidden inside caves across a large chasm and placing them into a stone structure at the western end. This is one of the four Maze challenges in the game and works differently from standard Mysterious Energy puzzles. This guide covers the exact location, every pillar step, the third cave shortcut, and the hidden chest most players miss entirely.

Ancient Rift Location in Crimson Desert

The Ancient Rift sits at the northern edge of the Hernand region, just southwest of Pailune City. On the map, it appears a little south of the letter P in Pailune. The area is a large hidden valley carved into a cliffside, with waterfalls cascading into a stream at the bottom of the chasm.

The Mysterious Energy marker on your map points to the stone structure with three slots at the west end of the rift. That is where you insert the Engraved Stones at the end. The three pillar caves are scattered at different elevations across the chasm itself. An Abyss Nexus fast travel point sits further east inside the rift — activate it first before attempting the puzzles. If you mess up a pillar sequence, fast travel to that Nexus to reset the area and start the puzzle step again.

You may also encounter Ara, one of the Shai NPCs, near this location. She is part of the Children of the Woods quest. If you need to find her, check the Ancient Rift area.

What You Need Before Starting the Ancient Rift Puzzle

You must have Blinding Flash — Concentrated Light unlocked in your skill tree. The pillars respond only to this specific ability. Normal attacks, fire, and other abilities do nothing to them. If you arrive at the Ancient Rift and cannot affect the pillars, leave and unlock Blinding Flash first before returning.

You also need Force Palm to activate the stone mechanisms inside each cave. Both of these are unlocked through normal story and skill progression. See our guide on how to use Force Palm if needed. Use Guiding Light (L1+R1 on controller) when you arrive to highlight interactive elements in the area.

Engraved Stone 1 — First Pillar Cave

From the top of the chasm, look down into the rift. You will spot the first set of glowing pillars below on a stone platform. Glide down to land on the platform.

Face the cliff wall. There are three pillars in front of you. Walk up to the third pillar — the one furthest to the right when facing the wall.

Use Blinding Flash — Concentrated Light on the orange growth on that pillar. The pillar shifts into alignment and the others follow. A doorway rumbles open in the cliff face.

Enter the cave. Use Force Palm on the stone mechanism inside. The mechanism rotates and opens, revealing the first Engraved Stone. Pick it up.

Engraved Stone 2 — Second Pillar Cave

Exit the first cave and walk to the edge of the stone platform. Look over the ledge. You will see another set of pillars further down along the waterfall path.

Glide down to the second set of pillars. This time, focus on the first pillar — the leftmost one when facing the cliff wall.

Use Blinding Flash — Concentrated Light on the first pillar once. The alignment triggers and the second cave entrance opens.

Enter the cave and use Force Palm on the mechanism to collect the second Engraved Stone.

Engraved Stone 3 — Third Pillar Cave (and the Shortcut)

The third cave is the most complex — but there is a shortcut that skips the pillar puzzle entirely. Most players do not find this.

Shortcut Method (Recommended)

Exit the second cave. Climb up the stone platform directly in front of the cave exit. Follow the pathway along the elevated section to the right of where the third pillar set is located. At the top, you will find a hole in the ground. Drop into it.

You fall directly into the hidden chamber behind the third stone pillars — no pillar alignment required. Use Force Palm on the mechanism inside and collect the third Engraved Stone. Exit back through the hole you dropped through, or interact with the door from the inside.

Standard Method (If You Want to Open the Door the Normal Way)

If you prefer to solve the third pillar puzzle properly, the steps are:

  • Use Blinding Flash — Concentrated Light on the leftmost pillar twice.
  • Use Blinding Flash — Concentrated Light on the rightmost pillar twice.
  • The pillars align and the door opens. Enter and Force Palm the mechanism for the third Engraved Stone.

If you mistime any Blinding Flash hit, fast travel to the Abyss Nexus further east in the rift to reset the puzzle. The pillar positions reset when the area reloads.

How to Complete the Ancient Rift Puzzle — Insert the Engraved Stones

With all three Engraved Stones in your inventory, travel to the west end of the Ancient Rift. This is where the Mysterious Energy marker points on your map. You will see a large weathered stone wall with three circular slots.

Approach the structure and insert each Engraved Stone one by one into the slots. After the final stone is placed, a short cutscene plays. The structure lowers and the Abyss Cresset activates, giving you a permanent fast travel point at this location. You also receive one Abyss Artifact as a reward.

To get out of the chasm afterward, use the new Abyss Cresset fast travel point or the Abyss Nexus further east. Climbing out manually from the bottom is slow.

Hidden Chest — Ancient’s Heart Cave (Vaporwalker Boots)

Before you leave the Ancient Rift, there is a hidden bonus chest that most players completely miss. It is not part of the Engraved Stone puzzle.

Look for a waterfall inside the rift. Behind the waterfall is a cave entrance called Ancient’s Heart Cave. The entrance looks like solid rock — you need to use Stab (RB+Y on Xbox / R1+Triangle on PlayStation) to pass through the wall behind the waterfall.

Inside the cave is a treasure chest. Open it to receive:

Do not skip this cave. The Vaporwalker Boots are unique loot not available anywhere else in the rift, and this chest is easy to walk past if you do not know it is there.

Ancient Rift Puzzle Rewards Summary

  • Abyss Cresset fast travel point — permanent, activated by placing all three Engraved Stones.
  • Abyss Artifact — awarded when the puzzle completes. Used to unlock abilities and boost stats.
  • Vaporwalker Boots — unique boots from the hidden chest behind the waterfall in Ancient’s Heart Cave.
  • Refined Palmar Pill — also from the hidden chest in Ancient’s Heart Cave.
  • Maze Pathfinder achievement progress — the Ancient Rift is one of four Maze challenges. Complete all four to unlock the achievement.
