TL;DR
- The Vaporwalker Boots are hidden inside Ancient’s Heart Cave in the Ancient Rift area of Hernand.
- To enter, use the Stab skill to dash through a waterfall, then Force Palm to smash a boulder.
- A treasure chest inside gives you the boots plus a Refined Palmar Pill.
- The boots grant the Skipping Stones ability, letting you slide across shallow water at speed.
- No quest required. No level gate. You can grab them at any point in the game.
Most players will walk right past this one and never know it exists. The Vaporwalker Boots are one of Crimson Desert’s best-kept secrets. There is no quest pointing you toward them, no NPC hinting at their location, and nothing on the map that says “look here.”
What you get for finding them is genuinely unique. These boots let Kliff glide across the surface of shallow water like a speedboat, skipping over rivers and streams instead of wading through them. It is not game-breaking, but it is one of the most fun movement abilities in the entire game and incredibly useful during exploration.
Here is the full guide to finding and using the Vaporwalker Boots.

What Are the Vaporwalker Boots?
The Vaporwalker Boots are a unique piece of footwear that grants a special passive called Skipping Stones. When you equip them and sprint toward a shallow body of water, pressing the crouch button (L3 on controller, C on keyboard) at the water’s edge sends Kliff into a sliding glide across the surface.
In terms of raw stats, they sit slightly below heavier footwear options. They offer modest attack and defense values, and they cannot be refined further or equipped with Abyss Gear slots. These are a mobility and exploration item first, not a combat piece.
The Skipping Stones ability works best in shallow water, like rivers, streams, and the edges of lakes. In deep water, you need enough speed to carry yourself through. Entering from a shallow section and maintaining momentum is the key. The ability has three charges and you get one back every 20 seconds, so as long as you are not constantly using them back to back, you will have them ready whenever you need them.

Where Are the Vaporwalker Boots Located?
The boots are inside Ancient’s Heart Cave, a hidden cave concealed behind a waterfall in the Ancient Rift area of the Hernand region.

On your map, look north of Hernand City, past the Sage’s Peak and the Forest of Wolves. The Ancient Rift is located just south of the “P” in “Pailune” on the map and slightly northeast of The Sage’s Peak. You are looking for a cluster of rivers and waterfalls in that area.
There is also an Abyss Nexus fast travel point at the Ancient Rift. If you have already unlocked it, you can use that to get there faster.
You can reach this area at any point in the game. There is no level requirement and no story unlock needed. If you want a natural entry point without skipping too far ahead of the main story, you will pass through this area during Chapter 7, when the story takes you between Demeniss and Pailune. But you do not have to wait.
How to Get the Vaporwalker Boots: Step-by-Step

Step 1: Find the Waterfall
Once you are in the Ancient Rift area, look for a large waterfall that splits in the center, dividing into two smaller falls side by side. The cave entrance is on the right side of the waterfall when you are looking directly at it from the front.
Do not aim for the base of the waterfall. The entrance sits at a mid-point elevation, not at the bottom. If you are approaching from above and gliding down, aim for the middle section of the right-hand falls.

Step 2: Use the Stab Skill to Get Through
A normal dodge roll or walking through will not work here. You need to use the Stab skill to drive through the curtain of water.
On controller: R1/RB + Triangle/Y On keyboard: Use the assigned Stab keybind.
This move thrusts Kliff forward with enough force to push through the waterfall and land on the ledge behind it. This same technique works at every hidden waterfall entrance in the game, so remember it.
Step 3: Break the Boulder with Force Palm
Once inside, you will see a rock wall blocking the path forward. You cannot just walk through it.
Use Force Palm (R3 / RS click on controller) to smash the boulder. A Turning Slash also works if you prefer that. Either will break the wall and open the passage into the cave. Check out our guide on how to use focused Force Palm if you want to get more out of that skill.

Step 4: Open the Chest
Walk through the broken wall and into Ancient’s Heart Cave. The treasure chest is sitting right in the back of the small chamber. Open it to receive:
- Vaporwalker Boots
- Refined Palmar Pill x1
The boots go straight into your inventory. Equip them and you are good to go.

How to Use the Vaporwalker Boots
Equipping the boots is not enough on its own. You need to activate the slide at the right moment.
Get a running start toward a shallow body of water. Right as you reach the water’s edge, press L3 on controller (click the left stick) or C on keyboard to start the sliding animation. Timing matters here. Press it too early and nothing happens. Press it a moment too late and you sink into the water normally.
If you find yourself plunging in, try initiating the slide slightly earlier, right at the edge rather than a step into the water. Once you get the timing down, it becomes very natural.
The slide works best in rivers and shallow streams. For wider or deeper bodies of water, carry as much speed as possible going in and enter from a shallow part to maintain the glide through any deeper sections.
Is It Worth Getting?
Yes. For a hidden item that requires no quest and no combat, the Vaporwalker Boots offer something genuinely useful. Crossing rivers on foot or on horseback in Crimson Desert can be slow. These boots let you skip across them in seconds.
They are particularly valuable during early exploration when you are moving around Hernand and Pailune constantly. Even later in the game, they speed up traversal in areas you revisit often.
The only real limitation is that they do not work in deep water. You cannot use them to cross wide lakes or open sea. For that you will still need a different approach. But for the rivers, streams, and shallows that criss-cross Pywel, they are one of the most practical mobility items in the game.
