- The Ancient Generator puzzles are part of the Kiln Repair at the Kilnden Workshop quest — main mission 48 in Chapter 4.
- The generator tower has four rings. Align all four yellow triangular symbols into a straight vertical column to power it on.
- The top and bottom symbols are already correct. You only need to move the two middle rings — solvable in exactly four moves.
- Once the generator activates, three kiln repair tasks unlock: the Fuel Kiln, the Dismantled Kiln, and the Disconnected Kiln.

The quest trips players up because it bundles four separate puzzles together — the generator ring alignment first, then three different kiln repairs — each requiring different abilities. Where to Find the Ancient Generator — Kilnden Workshop Location
The Kilnden Workshop is in the Hernand region. You arrive here during Chapter 4: The Price of Knowledge, after watching the workshop explode from a distance. Head to the explosion site northeast of Howling Hill. Grimnir, the helmeted master artificer, is already waiting when you arrive. Speaking with him starts the quest formally.
Before doing anything else, activate the Abyss Nexus fast travel point near the workshop. If you scramble the generator rings or get stuck on a kiln puzzle, you can fast travel away and return to reset incomplete puzzles back to their starting positions. How to Solve the Ancient Generator Ring Puzzle
The Ancient Generator is a tall tower with four rings stacked vertically. Each ring has a glowing yellow triangular symbol. Your goal is to rotate the rings until all four symbols line up in a straight vertical column from top to bottom.
The top and bottom symbols are already aligned. You only need to move the two middle rings.
At the base of the tower you will find two controls side by side:
- Yellow-glowing switch — push left or right to select which ring you want to move. The selected ring’s symbol glows more brightly.
- Wooden lever — push left or right to rotate the currently selected ring.
You hear an audible click when a symbol snaps into the correct alignment position.
Four-Move Generator Solution (Default Starting Position)
If you have not touched the generator yet, solve it in exactly four moves:
- Move 1: Push the yellow switch all the way to the right. This selects the 2nd ring from the top.
- Move 2: Push the wooden lever to the right. The 2nd symbol aligns directly below the top symbol. Watch for the brighter glow confirming it snapped into place.
- Move 3: Push the yellow switch to the middle position. This selects the 3rd ring from the top.
- Move 4: Push the wooden lever to the left. The 3rd symbol slots into place directly above the bottom symbol.
All four yellow triangular symbols now form a straight vertical column. The generator activates, turns blue, and powers up with an audible hum. Three kiln repair objectives appear on your map in the surrounding area.
If You Already Moved the Rings
If you interacted with the generator before reading this guide and the rings are in random positions, you have two options. You can manually rotate each ring one at a time until all four symbols line up — the symbols are large and clearly visible so keep rotating until the column looks straight. Or you can reset by reloading your most recent autosave or fast traveling away from the area and returning. Incomplete puzzles reset to their default configuration when the area reloads. Completed puzzles do not reset.
Kiln Repair 1 — Fuel Kiln (Five Electric Balls)
The Fuel Kiln is the northernmost objective on your map after the generator activates. This kiln needs five blue Electric Balls inserted into round openings around its base.
All Five Electric Ball Locations
- Ball 1 and 2: Directly next to the kiln on the ground. These are the most visible — you cannot miss them.
- Ball 3: Near the kiln in a flooded area. Go through the water and into a small cave entrance heading in the direction of the generator hill. Bug warning: This ball sometimes does not spawn. If you cannot find it, fast travel away and return to reset the area spawns, then check again before looking elsewhere.
- Ball 4: On the bird statue near the kiln. This is the one most players miss. The ball sits at eye level in the statue’s eye socket. Stand in front of the statue, lock onto the eye socket, and use Axiom Force as a pull (Force Grab) rather than a push. Pushing does not work on this ball. Pull it toward you, then carry it to the kiln.
- Ball 5: In the flooded area to the left of the kiln, on the ground in the water near the base.
If an Electric Ball falls into the deeper water at any point, do not panic. Use Axiom Force to pull it up from the water surface. It is still retrievable and does not despawn.
Use Axiom Force (hold L3 on controller) to pick up each ball and carry it to the kiln. Insert each one into a round opening on the kiln’s side. The opening closes when the ball is correctly placed. Once all five are inserted, push the wooden lever near the kiln to activate it.
Kiln Repair 2 — Dismantled Kiln (Axiom Force and Aerial Force Palm)
The Dismantled Kiln is the middle objective. This kiln has been broken into pieces lying on the ground around the base. You need to stack the pieces back onto the kiln using Axiom Force, then lock them together with an Aerial Force Palm from above.
Step-by-Step Dismantled Kiln Repair
- Step 1: The first broken piece is to the right of the kiln base. It has rough, destroyed-looking edges and is the larger section. Use Axiom Force (hold L3) to lift it and place it on the main kiln body. The game assists with rough alignment — perfect placement is not required, it snaps to the correct orientation automatically.
- Step 2: The second broken piece is behind the kiln. It is the chimney section — the piece with rough edges that looks more like a vent or tube. Use Axiom Force to grab it and stack it on top of the first piece.
- Step 3: Climb on top of the kiln structure. Jump into the air and use Aerial Force Palm (look downward and activate Force Palm while descending) to slam the pieces together and fuse them. The Aerial Force Palm range is generous — you do not need to be directly above the pieces. Jumping from the kiln’s edge and pressing Force Palm while descending works reliably. The kiln reassembles and activates automatically once the Force Palm connects.
If the Force Palm does not connect on your first jump, try again from slightly further along the kiln edge. The hitbox is forgiving but the angle matters. Learn more about how to use Force Palm if this is your first time using the ability.
Kiln Repair 3 — Disconnected Kiln (Reconnect the Pipe)
The Disconnected Kiln is the southeasternmost objective and the quickest of the three. No special puzzle mechanic is required.
- Walk around to the rear of the kiln and raise your torch if visibility is low.
- Find the loose conduit or broken pipe at the back. It looks like a disconnected cable running along the ground.
- Hold the interaction button to reconnect it automatically.
- Once reconnected, push the wooden lever near the kiln to the left to activate it.
That is the entire repair. This kiln takes under a minute once you know which side the pipe is on.
After All Three Kilns — Speaking to Grimnir and the Kuku Pot
Once all three kilns are running, speak to Grimnir. He is waiting at the top of the kiln structure, identifiable by the Visione helmet he wears. This conversation ends the Kiln Repair quest.
The next main quest — The Mysterious Pot (mission 49) — begins immediately. Grimnir demonstrates a special alchemical vessel and asks you to operate a lever at a stone platform. Interact with the mechanism and the Iron Pot drops down. This becomes the Kuku Pot, added directly to your inventory as a key item.
The Kuku Pot is one of the most important items in the game. It functions as a portable storage container for Abyss-related objects — Power Cores, Abyss Cells, Fusion Reactor Cores, and other mechanical artifacts you gather throughout Pywel. You may also want to use the wait function from the pause menu after speaking to Grimnir initially — some dialogue and crafting sequences require in-game time to pass before Grimnir finishes his work. Dispatching any background comrade missions before waiting is a good idea, since time fast-forwards and advances those tasks simultaneously.
