How to Make the Insect Gatherer’s Pack in Crimson Desert

How to make the Insect Gatherer's Pack in Crimson Desert — blueprint location, all materials, crafting steps, and how to use it. Updated 2026.

  • The Insect Gatherer’s Pack auto-captures nearby insects. You do not need to manually grab them.
  • You must craft a base Kuku Pack first. The Insect Gatherer’s Pack blueprint slot will not appear at Grimnir without it.
  • The blueprint comes from the Sanctum of Oblation, unlocked via Lyselia, the Witch of Humility.
  • You need 3x Abyss Cells, 1x Ore of Resipiscence, and 1x Crown of Shadows as key materials.
  • Craft the pack with Grimnir at the Kilden Workshop in Hernand. He becomes available after Chapter 4.
  • To use it on controller, hold both triggers. On PC, equip it to your quick slot and activate with Skill 5.
  • The pack is essential for the Tiny Citizens of Grasslands challenge, which requires all 76 insects.

The Insect Gatherer’s Pack in Crimson Desert is a modified Kuku Pack that automatically captures insects around you. It saves a huge amount of time compared to hunting them manually, especially for small or fast-moving insects you might not even notice on the ground. This guide covers every step in 2026: the blueprint, all materials, and how to use it once it’s built.

What You Need Before You Can Craft the Insect Gatherer’s Pack

There are two hard prerequisites before you can even see the Insect Gatherer’s Pack option at Grimnir’s workbench.

First, you must be in Chapter 4 or later to access Grimnir at the Kilden Workshop in Hernand. Second, and more importantly, you need the base Kuku Pack already crafted. Grimnir will not show the Insect Gatherer’s Pack blueprint slot until the base Kuku Pack exists in your inventory or has been registered. A lot of players skip straight to farming materials and end up confused at the crafting screen. Do the Kuku Pack step first.

How to Get the Insect Gatherer’s Pack Blueprint

The blueprint comes from completing the Sanctum of Oblation. To unlock it, you need to find Lyselia, the Witch of Humility.

Find Lyselia the Witch of Humility
Find Lyselia the Witch of Humility

Step 1 — Find Lyselia the Witch of Humility

Lyselia first appears as a stranger hanging off the bridge to the east of Beighen in Pailune. Speak with her to start her questline. After that, she moves to a hidden cave in Serpent Marsh in the Demeniss region.

Travel to the bridge north of Demeniss. Drop down into the cave below the marked fast travel point rather than climbing upward. That cave gives you access to the Sanctum of Oblation.

Step 2 — Complete the Sanctum of Oblation

Clear the enemies inside the sanctum and complete its trials. When you finish, the witch hands over the Insect Gatherer’s Pack Blueprint. Hold onto it. You will need it at Grimnir’s workbench along with the crafted Kuku Pack and the key materials below.

If you want a walkthrough of the sanctum itself, see our Sanctum of Oblation walkthrough.

How to Craft the Base Kuku Pack (Prerequisite)

You need the base Kuku Pack before you can build the Insect Gatherer’s Pack. This comes from a separate witch and sanctum quest.

Unlock the Witch of Wisdom and Sanctum of Penitence

Progress to Chapter 5 to unlock Elowen, the Witch of Wisdom. Her questline makes the Hernand sanctums hostile. Once active, go southeast of Hernand’s main city to the Sanctum of Penitence. Clear all the zealots inside, then go down to the basement, turn right through the spiderwebs, and grab the missing pillar piece from the small room. Take it back to the surface machine and slot it in with your Axiom Force. The cutscene plays and you receive the Kuku Pack Blueprint.

You can learn more about how to use Axiom Force in our Axiom Force guide.

Craft the Kuku Pot and Steal a Peddler’s Pack

To craft the Kuku Pack you need two things: a Kuku Pot and a Peddler’s Pack.

The Kuku Pot is crafted from 5x Iron Ore and 5x Timber. For Iron Ore locations, see our Iron Ore guide.

The Peddler’s Pack must be stolen. Any type of Pack will work — it does not have to be specifically a Peddler’s Pack. Go to Glenbright Farm, south of Hernand Highlands on the map. Southwest of that is the Totesmith Tannery, which has plenty of packs on the ground. Equip a Mask before you steal. Without a mask, you will be caught and gain a bounty. If you want to remove a bounty afterward, see our bounty removal guide.

Once you have the Kuku Pot and a stolen Pack, craft them together to produce the base Kuku Pack. You can read more in our Kuku Pack crafting guide.

All Materials Needed to Make the Insect Gatherer’s Pack

With the base Kuku Pack done and the blueprint in hand, you need three key materials for the Insect Gatherer’s Pack itself.

3x Abyss Cells — Farm at Drakesfall Castle

Abyss Cells drop from Abyss Creatures. The best farming spot is Drakesfall Castle in southern Pailune, just north of Drakesfall Gorge. Head to the central courtyard. You will see Bismuth Ore nodes on the ground. Attack the ore to reveal Stoneback Crabs hiding underneath. Kill them for Abyss Cell drops.

Explosive arrows work extremely well here. The explosion flips crabs onto their backs and kills them quickly. You need exactly 3x Abyss Cells total. The castle courtyard has more than enough crabs to get them in one visit. For more on Abyss Cells, see our Abyss Cells guide.

1x Ore of Resipiscence — Stone Worm Drop

The Ore of Resipiscence drops from Stone Worms. A reliable group of three Stone Worms spawns at Greenfield Highlands. Kill two and leave one alive. Then fast travel away using an Abyss Nexus point to reload the area, which respawns the other two. This lets you farm them repeatedly without waiting.

The drop is randomized. You may get the Crown of Shadows instead of the Ore on a given kill. Make a manual save before each attempt so you can reload if the wrong item drops. See our save guide if you are unsure how manual saves work.

1x Crown of Shadows — Stone Worm Drop

The Crown of Shadows also drops from Stone Worms at the same Greenfield Highlands location. Farm the same group using the same save-reload trick. Since both the Ore of Resipiscence and the Crown of Shadows come from the same enemy, you can farm them in the same runs. It may take several attempts due to the random drop table.

Some players also find Stone Worms along cliffside terrain near the Sanctum of Penitence. Either location works.

How to Craft the Insect Gatherer’s Pack at Kilden Workshop

Take everything to Grimnir at the Kilden Workshop in Hernand. He is available after Chapter 4. You need all of the following in your inventory:

  • 1x Kuku Pack (base)
  • Insect Gatherer’s Pack Blueprint
  • 3x Abyss Cells
  • 1x Ore of Resipiscence
  • 1x Crown of Shadows

Check Grimnir’s crafting menu for exact quantities. The numbers can vary slightly depending on your game patch. Once you confirm the recipe, Grimnir crafts the Kuku Insect Gatherer’s Pack. It goes directly into your inventory.

How to Use the Insect Gatherer’s Pack in Crimson Desert

Equipping and using the pack is a small step that trips people up.

Controller (PS5 and Xbox)

Open your inventory and equip the pack from the backpack tab. Then hold the Right D-Pad button to open the Functions Wheel. Use the Left Stick to highlight the bottom-right slot and press R2/RT to assign the Insect Gatherer’s Pack to that slot. Once assigned, press L2+R2 or LT+RT together to activate it. The pack opens and auto-captures all nearby insects. You can activate it while running, jumping, or in mid-air.

PC Keyboard Controls

Equip it from the backpack tab using your Quick Slot key. Hold your Skill Slot key and select the Gatherer’s Pack from the special equipment tab. Release the Skill Slot key, then press Skill 5 to activate it.

Cooldown and Activation Range

The pack has a cooldown of roughly 10 to 15 seconds after each activation. Plan your route so you move through insect-dense areas and activate the pack once the cooldown resets. The capture radius is wide, so one activation clears a large area around you.

Tips for Using the Insect Gatherer’s Pack Effectively

  • The pack captures insects, spiders, centipedes, snails, and similar small creatures automatically.
  • Pair it with the Kuku Gardening Pack in the same area. The Gardening Pack sweeps plants while the Insect Pack sweeps bugs. Running both back-to-back clears everything gatherable in one pass.
  • Some insect spawns near NPCs or private property count as theft when the pack activates. Equip a Mask before activating in those areas to avoid gaining a bounty.
  • Any gathering bonuses from your equipped gear still apply when the pack activates. Stack gathering percentage gear before a farming run to multiply your haul.
  • The pack is the fastest way to collect Palmar Beetles for the Refined Palmar Pill recipe. Without it, beetles must be picked up one by one from scattered ground spawns.
  • For the Tiny Citizens of Grasslands Challenge that requires all 76 insects, walk through dense grass areas and let the pack do the work. It captures insects you might not even see visually.
