The Queen Bismuth Crab in Crimson Desert is a gimmick boss that rewards players who understand its mechanics and punishes anyone who tries to fight it normally. Her Defense of 700 makes ground attacks useless. The entire fight happens on her back. How to Unlock the Queen Bismuth Crab Fight
The Queen Bismuth Oreback Crab does not spawn in the Valley of Grief until you have unlocked the correct faction quest. Walking to the location before this does nothing — she will not appear.
To unlock her:
- Open your faction quest menu and go to the Sage of the Desert tab under the Crimson Desert region.
- Work through the Sage of the Desert quests until you complete War Song of the Dusk — the goblin settlement mission in this chain.
- After War Song of the Dusk is done, the quest The Oreback Crab in the Desert becomes available and marks the boss location directly.
Some players also report needing to start A Town Drowned in Sorrow alongside War Song of the Dusk before the boss quest appears. Complete as many Sage of the Desert quests as available if the quest does not trigger after War Song of the Dusk alone. The Well of Enlightenment cannot be liberated before Chapter 9 of the main story, so this boss is tied to mid-to-late game progression.
Queen Bismuth Crab Location — Valley of Grief
The Queen Bismuth Oreback Crab is in the Valley of Grief, Crimson Desert region. On the map, find the text “Forebearer’s Barrens” — she is located south of the letter F in that label, right outside the Well of Enlightenment. An Abyss Gate sits near a large Bismuth Ore deposit at the entrance to her arena.
She disguises herself as a bismuth-encrusted rock outcrop on the desert floor. She stays dormant until you get close. Once you approach, she rises and the fight begins. Be aware of smaller Bismuth Crabs hiding in the sand nearby. Accidentally aggroing them before or during the fight adds unnecessary pressure. Clear or avoid them before entering the arena. How to Beat the Queen Bismuth Crab — Full Fight Guide
The Queen Bismuth Oreback Crab has a Defense stat of 700. Standard weapon hits from the ground deal almost no meaningful damage. Do not try to fight her normally — it is a waste of stamina and healing items. Every phase of this fight happens on her back.
Phase 1 — Get on Her Back
There are two ways to mount the Queen Bismuth Crab:
- Jump and Triple Force Palm — jump toward her and chain three Force Palms in the air to climb up onto her shell directly.
- Attack her legs — hit her legs until she becomes temporarily immobilised. Use the stun window to climb up while she is down.
Once on her back, use Turning Slash (R1+R2 on PlayStation / RB+RT on Xbox) on the carapace. This creates a brief stun window that slows her bucking and gives you time to work safely. Phase 2 — Break Bismuth Formations and Pierce White Cracks
This is the core damage loop. Repeat it for each weak point on her back:
- Use Turning Slash to open a stun window.
- While she is slowed, attack the bismuth crystal formation on her carapace with standard weapon strikes. White steam shoots from the formations — this marks the ones you need to break. Keep hitting until the crystals shatter.
- Once a formation breaks, a glowing white crack appears on the carapace beneath it.
- Press L3 (Cling) to grab onto the crack.
- Press R2 (Pierce) to drive your weapon into the weak point.
- Press R2 again to pull the weapon out. This deals massive damage — roughly a third of her blue health bar per successful pierce.
After each successful pierce, she launches you high into the air. Use your glider to land safely back on her shell and immediately begin the loop again on the next formation. Stabbing while clinging also builds her yellow stagger bar — fill it fully to collapse her completely, which gives you a much longer safe window to work on the formations without being thrown.
You need to pierce three weak points to deplete her blue health bar. Once the blue bar is gone, the fight enters its final phase.
Phase 3 — Smash the Pots (Final Phase)
When her blue health bar is gone, a pile of ceramic pots and bowls appears on her back as the new target. This is the kill trigger.
She cannot die until you smash these pots. The Queen Bismuth Crab has a Min HP Percent 5 passive that prevents her health from dropping below 5% through any other damage. If she seems unkillable at low health with no visible weak point remaining, this is why — locate and smash the pot pile. She is not bugged.
Return to her back and attack the pot pile with normal weapon strikes. It takes only a few hits to break them. Once the pots shatter, the kill sequence triggers and the Queen Bismuth Oreback Crab dies instantly.
Easy Method — Infinite Arrows and Explosive Arrows Cheese
If you have the Infinite Arrow Abyss Gears set up on your bow, this fight becomes significantly easier. Spam Explosive Arrows at the Queen from the ground or her back to stagger her repeatedly and break the bismuth formations without needing to Cling and Pierce as precisely. The explosions destroy the crystal clusters quickly and the constant stagger prevents her from throwing you off effectively. This is the fastest way to get through Phase 2 and makes the fight much more forgiving overall.
Preparation Tips Before the Fight
- Bring healing food. Bismuth chip damage and her launch attacks drain health steadily throughout the fight. Cook high-quality healing food before heading to the Valley of Grief.

- Invest Stamina Abyss Artifacts. Clinging to her shell constantly drains Stamina. A higher Stamina pool means more time holding position and fewer moments where she can throw you off.
- Do not use a tower shield. A small shield works best for this fight. The mobility difference matters when repositioning on her back between stun windows.
Queen Bismuth Crab Rewards and Loot
Defeating the Queen Bismuth Oreback Crab gives:
- 30x Bismuth Ore — a large direct drop. The area around the boss also has additional Bismuth Ore deposits in the ground, making the Valley of Grief a solid Bismuth Ore farm location for return visits.
- 1x Abyss Artifact — used to unlock abilities and boost attributes on your skill tree.
- Liberation of the Well of Enlightenment — unlocks the area for exploration and opens Comrade Dispatch missions to the location. After liberation, you can send Greymane expeditions to the Well of Enlightenment to receive Bismuth Spears — one per completed dispatch. These are needed for the Bismuth Spear Special Equipment Challenge.
- Bismuth Spear — one is available to pick up directly at the Well of Enlightenment after liberation, before needing to dispatch for more. Defeating 30 enemies with the Bismuth Spear completes the Special Equipment Challenge and rewards 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Faded Abyss Artifact, and 1x Heart of Stone.
Queen Bismuth Crab vs Queen Stoneback Crab
The Queen Bismuth Crab shares the same encounter design as the Queen Stoneback Crab in Delesyia — both require climbing onto the boss’s back, breaking surface armor to expose weak points, piercing cracks, and smashing pots to finish the fight. The key differences are:
- The Queen Bismuth Crab has an extra armor layer — bismuth crystal formations that must be broken before the white cracks become accessible. The Queen Stoneback Crab’s crystals are diamond and reveal green weak points instead of white.
- The Queen Bismuth Crab is tougher and more durable overall.
- The Queen Bismuth Crab is in a desert environment — she was exiled from her species because of the cursed bismuth growths that cover her shell, forcing her into arid terrain rather than the wetlands other Oreback Crabs prefer.
