What Are New Power Challenges (Primal Frenzy)?
New Power Challenges are a challenge category in Crimson Desert tied to legendary boss fights. The in-game name for this category is Primal Frenzy. There are 7 in total, and each one takes place in a different region.
Unlike story bosses, most of these won’t appear in the world until you’ve completed enough Faction Quests for that region. Don’t waste time traveling to the location early — if the boss isn’t there, it means you haven’t unlocked it yet.

How to Complete King of Corpses – Skevald, the Carrion King
Quest Location & Prerequisites
- Skevald is part of the Lords of Unclaimed Lands Faction Quests.
- No prerequisites needed. Find and examine the bounty notice for Skevald in Tommaso.
After picking up the bounty notice, head to Skevald’s tracking location and equip your lantern to follow the golden trail. This will lead you directly to him.
Skevald fights in two phases and keeps a pack of hyenas with him throughout. His most dangerous move is flooding the arena with red gas that drains your health continuously. To manage it, stay near the edges of the arena where the gas is thinnest, and keep Recovery Items in your quick-slot so you can heal without opening menus. Running out of heals mid-fight is the main way players die here.
How to Complete Dark Shadow – Black Fang, the Legendary Wolf
Quest Location & Prerequisites
- Black Fang is locked behind enough Hernand Faction Quest completions.
- Find the mission “Silence from Afar” under the House Celeste tab.
Once unlocked, head to the Forest of Wolves in Hernandian Territory. Equip your lantern to track Black Fang through the dense woods.
This is a two-phase hunt. Black Fang is surrounded by a pack of wolves for the entire fight. Clear the wolves first before focusing on Black Fang. If you ignore them, they’ll overwhelm you during his aggressive lunge attacks. Come with weapons ready and a full stock of Recovery Items. How to Complete Spirit Shepherd – White Horn, Shepherd of Souls

- White Horn is locked behind enough Pailune Faction Quest completions.
- Find the mission “Deep-Rotted Sorrow” under the Skoghorn Tribe tab.
Start the quest at Skoghorn Farm by speaking with the villager asking for help. This kicks off the “White Horn of Snowhaven Hearth” quest. From there, head west into the Argent Peaks.
White Horn is the hardest of the legendary animals by a distance. It’s a three-phase fight in a freezing mountain environment. Your most important tool here is Flame Strike. Setting White Horn’s fur on fire triggers a stop-drop-and-roll animation that briefly immobilizes him, giving you a clear damage window every time it triggers. Use that window well. How to Complete Ruler of the Northern Sky – Karanda
Quest Location & Prerequisites
- Karanda is locked behind enough Pailune Faction Quest completions.
- Find the mission “Queen of the Skies” under the Pailune Militia tab.
Once you’ve completed enough Pailune Faction Quests, the mission is added automatically. Head to the Harpy’s Nest in Pailune.
Karanda spends most of the fight airborne, which makes melee nearly useless. Focused Shot is essential. A high-quality bow gives you the range and damage output to knock her out of the sky consistently. How to Complete Entangled Cries – Queen Spider
Quest Location & Prerequisites
- Queen Spider is locked behind enough Hernand Faction Quest completions.
- Find the mission “Queen’s Nest” under the House Celeste tab.
Once the Faction Quest unlocks automatically, head to Arboria Castle. The Queen Spider will not be there until the quest is active — don’t go early.
The Queen Spider brings spiderlings into the fight. Most are minor nuisances, but some will attempt to self-detonate on you, dealing massive toxic damage. Don’t ignore them. Deal with the exploding ones first, then refocus on the Queen. Focused Shot and fire damage are the most efficient tools for burning through her health pool fast.
How to Complete Immense Beauty – Queen Stoneback Crab
Quest Location & Prerequisites
- Queen Stoneback Crab is locked behind enough Deleysia Faction Quest completions.
- Find the mission “The Wolf’s Ballad” under the Redfox Merchants tab.
Find Diederik at Redfox Trading Post. He’ll lead you to the Stoneback Crab Wetlands. The Queen Stoneback Crab is enormous and camouflages into the surrounding terrain, which is why many players walk right past it. Look for an unusually large, rocky mound that moves.
This boss cannot be killed through standard melee. It has a very specific method:
Phase 1: Use Jump + Triple Force Jump to climb onto its back. Destroy the crystals on its shell, then use Cling (R3) and Pierce (R2) to stab the glowing green cracks.
Phase 2: Smash the ceramic pots on its back to finish it off.
Stay on top of the boss as much as possible. Fighting it from the ground accomplishes nothing.
How to Complete Dangerous Sparkle – Queen Bismuth Oreback Crab
Quest Location & Prerequisites
- Queen Bismuth Oreback Crab is locked behind enough Crimson Desert region Faction Quest completions.
- Find the mission “The Oreback Crab in the Desert” under the Sage of the Desert tab.
You first need to complete enough Crimson Desert Faction Quests to unlock the “War Song of the Dusk” mission, which involves helping a goblin town. After completing that, head to the Valley of Grief to find the Queen Bismuth Oreback Crab.
Like the Stoneback Crab, this one requires climbing and precision — not just attacking.
Phase 1: Climb its back and use Turning Slash (R1+R2) to stun it. Break the Bismuth crystals on its back, then Cling (R3) and Pierce (R2) the glowing cracks.
Final Phase: Smash the pots to end the fight.
Tips for All Primal Frenzy Bosses
A few things apply across all 7 New Power Challenges:
Do your Faction Quests first. If a boss isn’t appearing, this is almost always why. There’s no shortcut. Go back to that region’s quest tab and keep progressing until the challenge unlocks automatically.

Why isn’t the Primal Frenzy boss appearing at the location?
You haven’t completed enough Faction Quests in that region yet. These bosses only spawn once the related Faction Quest is active in your log. Go back, progress through more regional quests, and the mission will unlock automatically.
Are New Power Challenges mandatory to finish the game?
