TL;DR

  • Gregor is a main story boss in Chapter 8 (“Where the Wind Guides You”), fought at Fort Ironclad
  • He has one HP bar but hits hard and has wall-mounted arrow traps firing throughout the fight
  • Destroy the cannons first by baiting Gregor to hit them with his halberd
  • Use Focus (L3+R3) to slow time, then parry with L1 when his attack connects
  • Avoid blocking his blue-glow stab chain — it bypasses your guard. Dodge sideways instead.
  • Reward: Golden Vanguard two-handed spear — keep this for the Lucian Bastier fight after Gregor

Where to Find Gregor the Halberd of Carnage

Gregor is a main story boss found at Fort Ironclad in Hernand. You fight him during the “Where the Wind Guides You” quest in Chapter 8: Blood Coronation. He appears after you find Woosa inside the fortress.

He’s rated as a Hard boss. One HP bar, but his speed, reach, and arena hazards make him one of the trickier fights in the early-to-mid game.

How to Prepare for Gregor the Halberd of Carnage

Good preparation makes this fight much more manageable. Here’s what to do before entering:

Upgrade your gear. There’s a Grindstone and Anvil available before the boss arena. Use them to reinforce your weapon and armor. See our guide on how to reinforce equipment in Crimson Desert if you haven’t done this before.

Bring lots of food. Every boss in Crimson Desert assumes you’ll take damage. Aim for at least 100 Grilled Meat before entering. You can eat every 2 seconds during combat. Check our guide on how to cook and find the best healing food to stock up fast.

Bring Palmar Pills. These revive you if you die mid-fight while Gregor is still low on health. A single revive at the right moment can save the entire run. Learn how to get and use Palmar Pills in Crimson Desert if you haven’t stocked up.

Have Focus Level 3 unlocked. This lets you press L3+R3 (RS+LS on Xbox / Left Click + Right Click on PC) to slow time and regenerate Spirit. It makes parrying Gregor’s attacks much easier and gives you a window to read his moves clearly.

Have Blinding Flash Finisher ready. Hold L1+R1 (LB+RB / Ctrl+Left Click), then hold R2 (RT / Right Click) to enter the finishing state. This unleashes an unblockable flurry that deals great damage and builds Gregor’s stun meter. Once the stun meter fills, hit R1+R2 for a high-damage finisher. Check our Blinding Flash guide for more details on this skill.

Note: A patch on March 23, 2026 reduced boss health and attack damage across the game, and increased the stun gauge buildup on successful parries. This makes the Gregor fight somewhat more forgiving than at launch.

Quick Tip — The Courtyard Trick

Before you engage Gregor fully, know this: you can leave the castle interior and step outside into the courtyard during the fight.

A countdown begins when you leave, but Gregor rarely follows you outside. This gives you a safe spot to heal and recover Spirit without being attacked.

This is also the best place to wait out Gregor’s invulnerable lunge chain. If he uses it in the courtyard, he’ll ignore you while trying to return to the arena.

Attack Pattern to Use Against Gregor

Follow this loop to deal consistent damage:

1. At the start of the fight, use Jump + Axiom Force to climb onto the cannons on the wall. Stand on them. Gregor’s halberd will destroy them in a few hits when he attacks, disabling the cannon fire from that half of the arena. Do this for one side first.

2. Hold L3+R3 (RS+LS / Left Click + Right Click) to enter Focus. Time slows down.

3. Watch for Gregor’s attack. Just as his halberd is about to connect, press L1 (LB / Ctrl) to parry. A successful parry opens a window for around three hits.

4. After your hits, use L1+R1 (LB+RB) then hold R2 (RT) to activate Blinding Flash Finisher. This deals solid damage and builds Gregor’s stun meter.

5. When the stun meter is full, press R1+R2 (RB+RT) for the high-damage finisher.

6. Repeat Focus → Parry → Blinding Flash Finisher until Gregor is dead.

Alternative strategy: If you find parrying unreliable, use Force Palm to stagger Gregor instead. Chain three hits after each stagger. A well-equipped Crow’s Pursuit core on your sword makes this even more effective, as the crows continue damaging Gregor even when he dashes away from you.

Gregor the Halberd of Carnage — All Attacks and How to Counter Them

Dash and Lunge (Halberd Thrust)

Gregor’s most common attack. He charges forward and stabs with his halberd. This can be blocked or parried. Use Focus to slow time and watch for the moment of connection, then hit L1 to parry. Parrying this gives you a solid counter window.

Triple Swipe (Up, Down, Up)

Gregor swings his halberd upward, then downward, then upward again in a three-hit combo. This can also be parried. Same approach — use Focus, watch the timing, and parry on connection.

Ground Slam

Gregor smashes his halberd into the ground, damaging a small area in front of him. This can knock you down. Dodge roll backward, then dash in for a counter once the animation finishes.

Cannon Trigger (Halberd Ground Tap)

If Gregor taps his halberd into the ground, every cannon in the arena fires at once. This is why destroying at least one side of cannons early is critical. The fewer cannons alive, the less damage this volley deals.

Invulnerable Lunge Chain (Blue Glow)

When the screen goes dark, Gregor enters an invulnerable state. He will explode the floor beneath you, then chain around 9 rapid lunges in a row.

Do not block this. His lunge chain during the blue-glow state goes through your guard and drains stamina heavily. Instead, dodge sideways each time. Watch for his spear tip to glow red — that’s the signal to evade. Once the chain is finished, he pauses to recover. Use that opening to attack.

Impale and Slam

Sometimes Gregor will catch you with a grab that impales you on his halberd, slams you to the ground, and stomps on you. This deals roughly three-quarters of your health. Block or parry every incoming attack to avoid triggering this — it seems to activate when you’re caught off-guard without a defensive action queued.

What Do You Get for Beating Gregor?

Gregor drops the Golden Vanguard — a two-handed spear with fast attack speed, long reach, and strong guard-break capability.

Hold onto this weapon. It’s highly recommended for the Lucian Bastier boss fight that comes later in the story, as Damiane’s other weapons struggle to break Bastier’s guard as effectively.
