TL;DR
- Stamina starts at Level 0 and caps at Level 10 by default
- You can push it all the way to Level 14 with the Red Seaweed Research unlock
- Complete Chapter 9 first, then speak with Valtus at the Urdavah Research Institute
- Collect x10 Red Seaweed from the south coast of Dewhaven in Delesyia
- Each upgrade past Level 10 costs Abyss Artifacts — and the cost increases with each level
- Stamina upgrades apply to all playable characters, not just Kliff
How to Get Max Stamina in Crimson Desert

Stamina is the most important stat in Crimson Desert. It is used for almost everything — sprinting, climbing, swimming, gliding, dodging, blocking, and most of your heavy attacks. Many of the best skills in the game also have a minimum Stamina requirement just to activate.
The problem is that Stamina starts at Level 0 and only goes to Level 10 before it hits a wall. You will feel that cap fast, especially once enemies start punishing you for running out mid-fight.
There is a way to break through it. With the right unlock, you can push Stamina all the way to Level 14. Here is exactly how to do it.

Why Max Stamina Matters in Crimson Desert
Before getting into the steps, here is why this upgrade is worth the effort.
Stamina drains every time you:
- Sprint on foot or while mounted — yes, your horse shares the same Stamina pool
- Climb walls or vertical surfaces
- Swim across water — if Stamina runs out while swimming, you drown
- Glide or fly across gaps
- Block incoming attacks with your shield
- Use heavy attacks (R2/RT)
- Activate combat skills like Swift Stab (50 Stamina), Charge (30 per second), and Spinning Slash (30 Stamina)
Some high-level moves like Aerial Swing require a large enough Stamina pool just to use. If your Stamina is too low, the ability will not activate at all. More Stamina does not just keep you moving — it keeps your entire toolkit available in a fight.
Cold regions also increase Stamina drain per action. Heat does the opposite and caps your maximum Stamina. Both are worth managing as you explore new areas — our ice resistance and frost protection guide can help.
Crimson Desert Stamina Cap: What Is the Maximum Level?
Stamina begins at Level 0. Through standard upgrades using Abyss Artifacts, it caps at Level 10.
To unlock Stamina from Level 11 to Level 14, you must complete the Red Seaweed Research task at the Urdavah Research Institute. Without this unlock, the upgrade option simply disappears from the menu at Level 10.
Level 14 is the current maximum Stamina in Crimson Desert.
How to Unlock Max Stamina in Crimson Desert
Step 1: Complete Chapter 9
You need to finish Chapter 9 of the main story before Valtus at the Urdavah Institute will speak to you. If he is not interacting with you, this is usually the reason. Keep playing the main quest until Chapter 9 is done.

Step 2: Go to the Urdavah Research Institute
Head north to Urdavah, the large northern city in the Crimson Desert region. Inside the Research Institute, take the elevator to the second floor and head to the west wing. Valtus is the NPC standing just after the elevator exit.
Our Urdavah Research Guide has the full layout if you need help finding your way around the building.
Step 3: Start the Red Seaweed Research
Talk to Valtus and select “Research Request”, then pick “Red Seaweed Research”.
This option only appears if you have already completed two earlier tasks:
- Desert Lifestyle Research
- Bioenergy Amplification Research
If those are not done yet, complete them first before returning to Valtus.
If Valtus appears bugged or will not talk at all, look for the golden statue in the east room directly opposite his position. Interacting with it can reset the dialogue trigger.
Step 4: Wait for Research to Pause
After starting the task, research will run for roughly 9 in-game hours and then stop on its own. This is not a bug — it is how the system works. You need to manually restart it.

Step 5: Restart the Research with Red Seaweed
When research stops, do the following:
- Return to Urdavah
- From the elevator, look for the stairs on the right when facing Valtus
- Find the Urdavah Institute Research Assistant upstairs
- Travel south of Dewhaven in Delesyia
- Collect x1 Red Seaweed from the coast
- Return and hand it to the Research Assistant
This resumes the research and completes the unlock process.

How to Get Red Seaweed in Crimson Desert
Red Seaweed grows along the beaches and coastal areas of Delesyia, mainly in the southeast.

- Fast travel to Dewhaven and head south toward the beach
- Walk along the shoreline near the water’s edge
- Red Seaweed is bright red and easy to spot sitting on the sand or near the water
- You need x10 Red Seaweed to unlock the Stamina upgrades
- Grab x11 if you want to complete the Red Seaweed Research quest at the same time
That is all you need. There is no extra farming required.
How to Upgrade Stamina Past Level 10
Once the Red Seaweed Research is complete and you have x10 Red Seaweed in your inventory, the Stamina upgrade option becomes available again in the Skill Tree.
A few important things to know:
- Each upgrade past Level 10 costs Abyss Artifacts — and the cost goes up with each level you buy
- It does not stay flat at 5 Abyss Artifacts per level. The price scales
- If you respec your character, Red Seaweed will not be refunded — plan ahead
- Stamina upgrades apply to all playable characters. When Kliff gets more Stamina, Oongka and Damiane benefit too. You do not need to upgrade each one separately

Should You Prioritize Stamina Over Other Stats?
Yes — at least in the early game. Here is how the three stats rank:
Stamina comes first. It affects movement, combat, exploration, and unlocks skills that require a minimum pool to activate. Running out of Stamina mid-boss fight is a death sentence. Your horse also shares the Stamina meter, so upgrading it helps mounted travel too.
Health comes second. Bosses can chunk you with single hits, so a few Health upgrades early give you a safety margin. Our guide on how to get max health in Crimson Desert covers that process in full.
Spirit comes last. It refills naturally by attacking, and the starting pool handles most early skills fine. Get one point early, then revisit it later.
Also worth knowing: many early-game combat skills can be learned for free using the Watch and Learn mechanic on NPCs and enemies. That means spending Abyss Artifacts on Stamina and Health upgrades early is better value than buying skills you can unlock for free. Check our best skills to level up first guide for the full breakdown.
Bonus: How to Climb Without Using Stamina
There is a trick in Crimson Desert that lets you climb indefinitely without draining Stamina. It uses the Precision Jump mechanic.
Here is how it works:
- Start climbing normally until you want to stop spending Stamina
- Hold still on the wall
- Hold L1 (PlayStation) / LB (Xbox) to aim, then press Square (PlayStation) / X (Xbox) to do a Precision Jump
- After the jump, immediately push the Left Stick toward the wall to re-grab it
Because the jump starts from a stationary position, the game does not count it as a regular climbing leap. No Stamina is used. You can repeat this as many times as needed to scale any surface.
It is not a replacement for upgrading Stamina — but it is a useful trick while you are still working toward Level 14.
Stamina and Combat: What High Stamina Actually Unlocks
Once you reach Level 14, the difference in combat is noticeable. You can:
- Chain heavy attack strings without stopping to recover
- Dodge more frequently during boss fights without burning out
- Keep your shield up for longer during sustained attacks
- Activate advanced skills that require a large Stamina pool
- Sprint, glide, and explore without babysitting the yellow bar
