Find and Beat Primus the Ancient in Crimson Desert
TL;DR

Primus the Ancient is one of three Ancients you need to defeat for the Shackled God Faction Quest tied to Aeserion the Great Serpent. He is a flying boss who fights from the air, rains down projectiles, and punishes players who do not come prepared with the right skills and consumables. Once you understand his pattern, though, the fight becomes very manageable.

What to Bring Before Fighting Primus the Ancient
Preparation matters more than raw damage in this fight. Primus spends most of the battle in the air, so your loadout needs to reflect that.
Skills
Focused Shot is essentially required for this fight. It lets you mark Primus with multiple arrows while he is airborne and fire them all at once in slow motion, dealing significant damage and building his Stun Bar efficiently. To unlock it you need Marksmanship Level 2 (blue skill tree) and Focus Level 2 (green skill tree).

Weapons
Bring a bow with plenty of arrows. Stock up on regular arrows or Sleep Arrows from vendors before heading out. Sleep Arrows are especially useful — they can send Primus into a brief sleep state and force him to the ground, giving you an extra window for melee attacks. You do not need a fully upgraded bow for this fight. Even a basic bow works if you are consistent with Focused Shot.
Consumables

Where to Find Primus the Ancient in Crimson Desert
Primus the Ancient is located at Arrowhead Rock in Dewhaven Territory, in the southern region of the map. Look for him around the elevated rocky areas and monolith formations near the Serpent Shrine.
Important: If you arrive at Arrowhead Rock and Primus is not there, it means you have not started the required quest yet. You need to activate the Aeserion, the Great Serpent Faction Quest first. To start it, head to the Serpent Shrine in Dewhaven Territory and speak with Aeserion by stepping on the altar there. Once the quest is active and tracked, Primus’s location will be marked on your map automatically.
Primus can occasionally appear on a different cliff nearby in Dewhaven Territory. If you find him in an alternate spot, it is best to leave that area and travel to the exact Arrowhead Rock location instead. He has been known to randomly glitch out and disappear during fights when encountered off his intended spawn point, which would erase all your progress on the fight. Stick to the marked location to avoid this issue.

How to Beat Primus the Ancient in Crimson Desert
Primus cannot be beaten through straight melee aggression. He spends most of the fight in the air, so your primary goal is to force him down to the ground, deal burst damage during those windows, and then repeat the cycle.
Phase 1 — Knock Primus Out of the Air
While Primus is flying, your main tool is Focused Shot. Here is the full input:
- PlayStation: Hold L2 to aim the bow → press L3+R3 to enter Focused Shot → press R1 four times to mark Primus → release to fire four rapid arrows in slow motion
- Xbox: Hold LT → click both sticks → press RB four times → release
- PC: Hold Right Click to aim → press the Focused Shot keybind → click to mark → release
Each volley builds Primus’s Stun Bar. Once the bar is full, Primus is forced down to the ground. This is your main damage window. Keep firing Focused Shot whenever he is airborne and stay mobile between volleys to avoid his attacks.
Phase 2 — Punish Primus on the Ground
The moment Primus hits the ground — either from a full Stun Bar or after his dive bomb attack — move in immediately. Use R1+R2 Turning Slash to deal heavy burst damage while he is down. If a finisher prompt appears, use it right away as it deals significantly more damage than normal attacks.
Primus will not stay grounded for long, so make every second count before he takes to the air again.
Dealing With Primus’s Attacks
Primus has a predictable set of attacks that become easy to read once you know what to look for:
Homing Missile Barrage — This is his most dangerous move. He flies up and fires multiple tracking projectiles at you. Dodging them is near impossible due to their tracking. The safest approach is to block with a shield to absorb the damage, or use Nature’s Snare to deflect them. Have healing food ready and eat through any chip damage that gets through.
Dive Bomb — Primus briefly telegraphs this before plunging toward the ground. Get out of the landing zone, then immediately move in for melee attacks while he recovers. This is one of your best free damage opportunities in the whole fight.
Projectile Rain — He pelts you with a spread of projectiles from above. Use Nature’s Snare or dodge laterally to avoid the bulk of these.

The Full Fight Loop
- Fire Focused Shot while Primus is in the air to build his Stun Bar
- When Stun Bar fills, Primus drops to the ground
- Hit with Turning Slash and any available finisher
- Block or deflect his homing missiles with a shield or Nature’s Snare
- Watch for the dive bomb telegraph and punish his landing
- Heal through unavoidable damage with food items
- Repeat until Primus is defeated
Stay consistent with this loop and Primus should go down within a few minutes.

The Ancient Ring is a solid early accessory thanks to its attack and stamina bonuses. The Ancient Reckoning Abyss Gear is excellent for melee weapon builds. Tips for the Primus the Ancient Fight
A few extra things to keep in mind before you go in:
- Upgrade your bow skills first. Focused Shot is the backbone of this fight. Without it, the airborne phase drags on much longer than it needs to. See our how to get skill points guide to get there faster.
- Do not chase Primus in the air. Stay grounded, keep your distance, and use ranged attacks. Running after him wastes stamina and leaves you vulnerable.
- Use Sleep Arrows if you want extra grounded damage windows without relying on the full Stun cycle.
- Stock up on healing food before heading out. Meat Skewers are easy to make and carry in bulk.
- Bring Palmar Pills. If you die with Primus close to death, Palmar Pills let you revive on the spot instead of restarting the whole fight.
