How to Get Aeserion Scales in Crimson Desert

Learn how to get Aeserion Scales in Crimson Desert, where to find them at Serpent Shrine, how to use them for upgrades, and how to farm more with your comrades.

Getting Aeserion Scales in Crimson Desert

TL;DR

  • Aeserion Scales are the final tier upgrade material for weapons and armor
  • Found only at Serpent Shrine in the Dewhaven Territory / southwestern Delesyia
  • You do not need to fight Aeserion — just collect the scales while the serpent roams
  • Use Axiom Force to grab them and seal them in your Kuku Pot
  • Around 50 scales can be collected per visit; you can also send comrades to farm them
  • Used for Masterwork upgrades and Kuku Pot recipes at the Kilnden Workshop

If you have been pushing your gear to its limits in Crimson Desert, there will come a point where standard materials are no longer enough. Weapons and armor can only be taken so far before you hit a wall. To break through that final upgrade tier and reach Masterwork level, you need Aeserion Scales — the rarest and most powerful upgrade material in the game.

The good news is that collecting them is much easier than most players expect. You do not need to defeat a massive world boss. You just need to know where to go and what to do when you get there. For a broader look at gearing up, see our Crimson Desert how to get better equipment guide.

What Are Aeserion Scales in Crimson Desert

Aeserion Scales are steel scales shed by Aeserion, the Great Serpent — a colossal godlike creature trapped in Pywel by the Ancients. They are the endgame upgrade material used to push weapons and armor into their highest refinement tiers.

These scales exist in only one location in the entire game, which makes them feel rare and hard to find. But once you know the spot, you can collect around 50 of them in a single visit. They also appear as pentagon-shaped icons on your minimap when you are in range, so they are not hard to spot once you arrive.

Where to Find Aeserion Scales in Crimson Desert

Aeserion Scales are found exclusively at the Serpent Shrine in the Dewhaven Territory. The shrine sits at the far southwestern tip of the Delesyia region, along the southern coast of the map. It is tucked away in a corner that the main story does not push you toward until late in the game, which is why many players miss it.

To reach the Serpent Shrine:

  • Head to the far south of the map toward the coastal region of Delesyia
  • The shrine is at the southwestern tip — look for it along the coastline
  • When you approach from the cliffside area, jump and glide down to reach the shrine below
  • You will see magi in the area firing at Aeserion from a distance — this is how you know you are in the right place

Once inside the shrine, Aeserion the Great Serpent will be roaming the area. Do not panic. You do not need to fight him. Simply run around the shrine and collect the scales he has shed. They glow and appear as pentagon-shaped icons on your minimap. Use Axiom Force (L3) to grab each scale and then seal them inside your Kuku Pot to carry them. You can collect around 50 scales in a single visit this way.

The area is affected by supernatural lightning storms, so watch your positioning and keep moving. The lightning will not one-shot you, but standing still in a strike zone will hurt. For help with how Axiom Force works, see our how to use Axiom Force in Crimson Desert guide.

How to Farm Aeserion Scales Using Comrades

If you want a passive way to keep building your supply, you can send your Greymane comrades to farm Aeserion Scales for you.

Head back to your camp and speak to Ross. Select the Delesyia: Serpent Shrine Exploration option. Make sure at least one of your Greymanes has the Explorer skill equipped before sending them out.

The expedition costs:

  • 7,800 Armaments
  • 12,000 Stones
  • 12,000 Timber
  • 17,000 Food
  • 22,000 Gold

It requires nine Greymanes and takes three in-game days to complete. Once they return, they will bring back a batch of scales to add to your stockpile. It is a solid way to keep upgrading without making repeated trips to the shrine yourself. For more on managing your team, see our Crimson Desert how to get comrades guide.

The Shackled God Quest and Aeserion

The Serpent Shrine is also tied to the Shackled God Faction Quest. When you first arrive and step on the altar, Aeserion will speak to you and reveal that three Ancients — Priscus, Praevus, and Primus — are responsible for trapping him. Defeating all three will allow you to free Aeserion and complete the questline.

You do not need to complete this quest to collect scales. The scales are available to gather regardless of your quest progress. However, if you want to fully complete the Shackled God questline and see the story through, the three Ancient bosses are marked on your map once you are tracking the quest. How to Use Aeserion Scales in Crimson Desert

Once you have a supply of Aeserion Scales, here is what you can do with them:

Weapon and Armor Upgrades

Aeserion Scales are the final material needed to push your weapons and armor into Masterwork tier upgrades. This is the highest refinement level available in the game. Standard upgrade materials will get you far, but only Aeserion Scales unlock that last stage of power. For full details on the upgrade system, see our guide on how to upgrade weapons and armor in Crimson Desert and how to reinforce equipment in Crimson Desert.

Kuku Pot Recipes

Aeserion Scales are also used in select Kuku Pot recipes. You can access these recipes through Grimnir at the Kilnden Workshop in Hernand. If you have collected blueprints from Sanctums or other sources, check which ones require Aeserion Scales and prioritize those crafts. For more on Kuku crafting, see our guide on how to craft the Kuku Pack and Kuku Rocket Pack in Crimson Desert.

Tips Before You Head to Serpent Shrine

A few things to keep in mind before making the trip:

  • You need Axiom Force and a Kuku Pot unlocked before you can collect scales. Without both, you cannot pick them up or carry them.
  • The area has constant lightning. Bring consumables and keep moving to avoid taking unnecessary damage.
  • You do not need to fight Aeserion to collect scales. Just run around the shrine and pick them up freely.
  • Around 50 scales are available per visit at the shrine.
  • Check your minimap — pentagon icons indicate scale locations.
