TL;DR
- Steal the first Gold Bar from the Lioncrest Manor fireplace — it respawns every 3 in-game days
- Complete Bruna’s Request before stealing it — it clears NPCs blocking the fireplace
- You need a Mask to steal — buy one from Grimrak the back alley vendor for 10 Copper
- Never sell Gold Bars to merchants for 190 Silver — exchange at any bank for 500 Silver instead
- Craft more Gold Bars using the alchemy recipe from the Spire of Insight or a Witch’s hideout
- Invest at the bank using High Risk and save-scum before each refresh for guaranteed returns
- Your bank account works at all four banks across Pywel — you don’t have to return to Hernand
Gold Bars are one of the most important items in Crimson Desert’s economy. They’re rare, they’re valuable, and most players walk right past several of them without realizing it. This guide covers every way to get Gold Bars, how to craft more, and how to invest them properly so your Silver grows while you play.
For a full breakdown of all the ways to earn Silver, see our guide on how to make money fast in Crimson Desert.
What Are Gold Bars Worth in Crimson Desert
Before anything else, know this: never sell Gold Bars to a merchant. Merchants only give you 190 Silver per bar. That’s a terrible deal.
Always take Gold Bars to a bank. Each bar exchanges for 500 Silver. That’s nearly three times more. Or better yet, invest the bar and let it grow instead of cashing out immediately. More on that below.
Gold Bar Location 1 – Lioncrest Manor Fireplace (Guaranteed)

The earliest and most reliable Gold Bar in the game is inside Lioncrest Manor. It’s northwest of Hernand’s main town square. You can get it very early — you don’t need to wait for a quest to send you there.
Step 1: Complete Bruna’s Request first. If you go straight to the manor without doing this, you’ll find a group of NPCs standing directly in front of the fireplace. They block the steal prompt entirely. Complete Bruna’s Request in Crimson Desert first and those NPCs despawn, leaving only the two guards to deal with.
Step 2: Get a Mask. You cannot steal without wearing a Mask. You have three options:
- Buy one from Grimrak, the back alley vendor in Hernand. His shop is southeast of the church, near the river. It only costs 10 Copper.
- Loot one randomly from bandits across Pywel.
- Complete the Jeffrey bounty in Hernand for a free one.
Grimrak is the fastest option. See our how to steal items in Crimson Desert guide for the full details.
Step 3: Enter through a window. The front entrance is blocked by guards. Climb the outer walls and enter through one of the upstairs windows instead. You can also glide onto the roof from the nearby cliff if you prefer.
Step 4: Wait for the right moment. Head to the first floor. The fireplace is on the opposite side of the main entrance — look for the lion statue above it. A guard patrols this floor. Wait for him to enter the hallway adjacent to the fireplace. The moment he turns the corner, hold Ctrl on keyboard or L1 on PlayStation and hit the Steal prompt. The Gold Bar is yours.
If you do get caught, don’t panic. You’ll be fined and lose your Mask, but you keep the Gold Bar. Pay the fine and buy a new Mask from Grimrak.
Important: The Gold Bar in the Lioncrest Manor fireplace respawns every 3 in-game days. Come back regularly. Over time, it becomes a reliable renewable source of Gold Bars without any crafting needed.

Gold Bar Location 2 – Pickpocket Nobles (Random Chance)

There’s a large Wildlife Park in Demeniss that hosts a crowd of nobles. Each noble has a small random chance of carrying a Gold Bar in their pockets.
Equip your Mask. Then use your Lantern or Blinding Flash to highlight what nearby NPCs are carrying. If a noble has a Gold Bar, you’ll see it. Bump into them while pressing your Interact button to pickpocket it. Move away quickly afterward to avoid detection.
The drop rate is low. Some players go multiple full loops without finding one. Others find several quickly. Treat this as a bonus source, not a reliable farm. The Wildlife Park in Demeniss is the better location for this — the noble density there is higher than in Hernand.
Gold Bar Location 3 – Treasure Goblins
Treasure Goblins are rare roaming enemies scattered across Pywel. When killed, they drop a mix of random valuables — and Gold Bars are in their loot table. You won’t find these reliably, but if you spot one while exploring, always chase it down.

How to Craft Gold Bars in Crimson Desert
Once you’re past the very early game, crafting is the most scalable way to build up Gold Bars consistently.
Crafting Recipe Location 1 – Spire of Insight
The first alchemy recipe for crafting Gold Bars is inside the Spire of Insight, in the Steel Mountains southeast of Hernand. You need to reach the third floor. The recipe is pinned to one of the shelves near where you find the Celestial item during the floor puzzle.
For the full walkthrough on getting there, see our Crimson Desert Spire of Insight puzzle guide.
Crafting Recipe Location 2 – Witch’s Hideout
A second recipe is available at a Witch’s hideout. There’s one in Shadow’s Whisper Cave north of Hernand, and another in the Silver Wolf Mountains further into the game. Speak to the Witch inside. Once you unlock the ability to craft Abyss Gears, the option to craft Gold Bars will appear in her menu.
Materials needed to craft Gold Bars via alchemy:
- Brimstone x1
- Mercury x1
These can be gathered from resource nodes across Pywel. Our how to get Epidote in Crimson Desert guide covers rare material farming in detail.
Crafting Recipe Location 3 – Smithy (Gold Ore Method)
Gold Bars can also be crafted at any smithy using 100 Gold Ore per bar. This is the most resource-intensive method but becomes viable once you unlock the full list of Gold Mine locations.
How to find Gold Mines: Complete the Stolen Quarry quest and defeat Marni’s Excavatron at Karin Quarry. The reward is a Gold Vein Map, which marks 10 Gold Mine caves on your world map — all west of Hernand. Visit them to start farming Gold Ore. For tips on clearing the quarry first, see our Crimson Desert Stolen Quarry quest guide.
Once you have the mines unlocked, Anvil Hill is the most efficient farming spot. Use Force Current to collect ore quickly.
How to Invest Gold Bars at the Hernand Bank
This is where Gold Bars become genuinely powerful. Don’t just exchange them for Silver — invest them.

Step 1: Open a Strongbox. Head to the Hernand Bank and speak with the banker, Grover. Pay 100 Silver to register a Personal Strongbox. You only need to do this once. Your account works across all four banks in Pywel. You can deposit and withdraw from any major settlement — you never have to return specifically to Hernand.
Step 2: Deposit your Gold Bar. Each Gold Bar deposited counts as a 500 Silver investment. Keep that number in mind.
Step 3: Choose an investment strategy. The bank offers three risk levels. Returns are calculated every 3 in-game days:
- Low Risk — small but consistent returns. Good for hands-off passive income once you have many bars.
- Medium Risk — the best balance for most players. Consistent enough to rely on.
- High Risk — up to 50–55% returns per cycle, but with the chance of total loss.
The High Risk trick: The investment outcome is calculated fresh every time you load a save. That means you can save your game just before the refresh timer hits zero, collect your returns, and reload if you lose instead of gain. This makes High Risk essentially risk-free if you’re willing to reload. It’s the fastest way to grow your Silver early. Check the refresh timer on the bank screen — it shows how long until the next payout cycle.
You can switch strategies every 15 in-game days. Dividends and losses sit in the bank until you manually withdraw them.
