How to Beat Ator, Archon of Antumbra in Crimson Desert

Ator, Archon of Antumbra, is one of the toughest fights in Crimson Desert. This is a hidden endgame boss — high defense, punishing attacks, and the ability to nearly one-shot Kliff if you are not careful. Do not walk into this fight underprepared.
The good news is that Ator’s attack patterns do not change throughout the entire fight. Once you learn them, you can predict almost everything he does. The challenge is surviving long enough to whittle down that enormous health pool.
Crimson Desert is available on PC via Steam, Epic Games, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Check the official Crimson Desert website for the latest updates.
How to Access Ator — Cloister of Ruination
Ator is a hidden boss. You will not stumble across him naturally. To reach him, you first need to unlock the Cloister of Ruination. If you have not done that yet, check our full guide: Crimson Desert Cloister of Ruination Guide.
Prepare Before the Fight
Ator hits hard and takes very little damage. This fight is a long one. Go in with:
- Tons of healing food. You will need it. See our guide on how to cook the best healing food in Crimson Desert.
- Multiple Instant Revive items. Do not skip these.
- A solid build. You need enough damage output to make a dent, and enough defense to survive his hits. Check our best early build guide as a starting point, and make sure your gear is upgraded — see how to reinforce equipment and how to upgrade weapons and armor.
- Max health and stamina. Both matter a lot here. See our guides on how to get max health and how to get max stamina.
If you want a strong weapon going into this fight, the Survivor’s Solitude is a solid one-handed sword with three Abyss Gear slots that stays competitive well into the endgame.

Ator’s Attack Patterns
Standard Attacks
Ator has a small set of regular attacks that repeat throughout the fight. They are predictable once you have seen them a couple of times. Study the movement and you will know what is coming.
The Golden Hammer Jump
Ator sometimes summons a golden hammer and raises it high. This telegraphs a jump attack. He will jump and flip once in the air before landing on your position.
What to do: Wait until Ator flips midair, then dodge immediately. Do not dodge too early — time it to the flip.
After he lands the hammer on the floor, do not stand near it. The hammer keeps dealing AoE damage in the area until it disappears.
Orb Attacks
This is the most important mechanic to understand. Ator is surrounded by orbs and launches them constantly — almost every attack comes with orbs attached.
Watch the orbs carefully. When they start to glow, they are about to target you. Each orb counts as a full hit, and blocking them with your shield drains a massive amount of stamina fast.
Always dodge orbs. Never shield them. This is not optional — shielding orb hits will burn through your stamina and leave you completely open.
Hammer Follow-Up Combos
Sometimes Ator throws a strong attack and immediately follows it with a hammer strike and orb volley. This combo can overwhelm you quickly if you are not ready for it.
What to do: The moment Ator takes out his hammer, move to get behind him. Most of his forward-facing attacks and orb launches will miss you from that position.
Ator’s Ultimate Phase
This is the most dangerous part of the fight. Ator becomes immune to physical damage during his ultimate and launches an aggressive wave of orb attacks before pulling out the hammer and smashing it into the ground.
Then darkness fills the entire arena. Visibility drops sharply and tracking Ator’s movements becomes very difficult.
Here is how to survive it:
- Stop attacking completely. You cannot damage him during this phase anyway.
- Track the glowing hammer, not Ator’s body. The hammer tells you where he is standing.
- Get behind Ator using the hammer as your reference point. Most of his smashes are in front of him.
- Do not panic-roll away. The hammer’s shockwaves reach the entire arena. Rolling away randomly will not save you — getting behind him will.
- Ator will smash the ground three to four times before the phase ends.
- Do not rely on your shield for these hits. A single hammer smash can drain nearly all of Kliff’s stamina.
Once the ultimate phase ends, the darkness clears and Ator becomes vulnerable again. Get straight back in.
How to Deal Damage — Stun Meter Strategy
Ator’s defense is extremely high. You will not chunk his health with individual hits. The key is using full combos to build his stun meter.
Every full combo — whether light attacks, heavy attacks, or Force Punches — deals stun damage on the final hit. Build that stun meter up and Kliff gets to land a powerful staggering blow that actually hurts Ator.
Take every opening you get and use a full combo. Do not throw out single hits. Commit to the full sequence when Ator gives you a window, then back off when he winds up again.
For help with parrying and dodging to create those windows, see our guide on how to parry, counter, and dodge in Crimson Desert.
