The Queen Stoneback Crab is one of the most iconic moments in Crimson Desert — many players recognized it from the pre-release trailers. It’s a massive creature that looks like a walking mountain, and the fight against it is unlike most boss encounters in the game. The whole thing is a climbing and weak point challenge, not a straight damage race. If you’ve been wondering where it is or how to beat it, here’s everything you need to know.

How to Find the Queen Stoneback Crab
This boss is tied to a side quest, not the main story. If you’re only running main quests, there’s a good chance you’ll walk right past it without ever knowing it’s there. That’s by design — the Queen Stoneback Crab is camouflaged perfectly as a large mineral-covered rock formation. It won’t move or react until you’re on the quest and approach it.

Start the Quest: The Queen’s Lake
To trigger the fight, you need to pick up the side quest called The Queen’s Lake. This quest becomes available after you reach Chapter 3 and unlock the Greymanes’ Howling Hill camp. For help getting the camp set up, see our Howling Hill base camp upgrade guide.
The quest is given by Diederik, a lost Greymane NPC. You can find him east of Demeniss City, near the Bardtree Gorge area in the Delesyia region. He’ll explain that there’s something unusual in a nearby wetland full of mineral nodes, and he wants to go check it out.
This is also listed as one of the New Power Challenges (Primal Frenzy) in the game under the Redfox Merchants faction quest tab, called The Wolf’s Ballad. So if you’ve been doing Delesyia faction quests, you may see it unlock from that direction too. Our full New Power Challenges boss locations guide covers all seven of these legendary fights.
Finding the Boss at Stoneback Crab Wetlands
Once you’ve spoken to Diederik and started the quest, follow the marker to the Stoneback Crab Wetlands in Delesyia. The area is full of mineral nodes and looks like a natural resource spot. In the center, you’ll see a large, strangely shaped outcrop that looks out of place compared to everything around it.
Walk up to it. A cutscene begins where Diederik tries to mine the stones with a pickaxe. Suddenly the entire “hill” starts shaking, and both Kliff and Diederik are thrown back as the Queen Stoneback Crab rises from the ground. The fight starts immediately after.
Before the Fight: Preparation
This is not a fight you want to walk into under-geared or with low stamina. A few things to sort out before you engage:
Gear level: Aim for at least Tier 5 gear. You can technically start this fight from Chapter 3, but lower gear makes the final phase drag on much longer than it needs to. If your equipment needs work, our guides on how to get better equipment and how to reinforce equipment will help.
Stamina investment: This is the most important stat for this fight. You’ll spend the majority of the encounter clinging to the side of the boss while it thrashes around. If your stamina runs out, you fall off and have to start climbing again. Spend Abyss Artifacts on stamina upgrades before you come here. Our max stamina guide walks through all the ways to boost it.
Eat before you fight: A stamina-boosting meal makes a genuine difference here. See our best healing food guide for what to cook.
Force Palm ability: Make sure Force Palm is in your loadout. You’ll need it to break the mineral deposits on the boss’s shell. Our guide on how to get and use Focused Force Palm has more detail on that skill.
Phase 1: Climb the Shell and Hit the Weak Points
Standard attacks against the Queen Stoneback Crab deal almost no damage. Its thick mineral shell absorbs everything. Don’t stand in front of it trying to chip away at it — that’s a waste of time and stamina.
The only way to damage the boss is to get on its back.
Getting on the Back
Use Jump followed by a Triple Force Jump to climb up onto the shell. Once you’re on, use Cling (R3 on controller) to grip the shell and hold your position as the boss moves and shakes. This fight asks a lot of your stamina gauge, so don’t wait around on its back — move to weak points quickly.
Breaking the Mineral Deposits
Once you’re on the shell, you’ll see hardened mineral deposits — clusters of quartz and rock — scattered across its back. Use Force Palm to smash through them. You can also use charged attacks or other strong strikes to break these faster.
Each deposit you break exposes a glowing green weak point underneath. There are three weak points total, and their locations are:
The first weak point is on the lower right side of the shell. Break the deposit there and the green scar will appear.
The second weak point is in the center portion of the shell, hidden under another cluster of quartz minerals.
The third weak point is on the upper left area of the shell, near where the geysers will start erupting.

Stabbing the Weak Points
Once a green weak point is exposed, stay on the shell and use Cling (R3) combined with Pierce (R2) to stab it. After stabbing, press the stab button again to pull the dagger out. Each successful stab drains a chunk of the blue HP bar.
After you hit the first weak point, the Queen Stoneback Crab gets angrier. It starts shooting geysers of hot steam from random spots on its shell. These geysers launch you into the air and deal serious damage if you’re standing on them when they erupt. There’s no clear warning for where they’ll pop up, so keep moving and get to each weak point quickly rather than sitting still.

The boss also has ground-based attacks to watch out for between your climbing attempts:
Its Ground Slam raises both claws and then crashes them down, sending out a shockwave. Watch for the claw raise and dash backward to get clear before the shockwave hits.
Its Boulder Throw breaks the ground and launches rocks in a wide arc in front of it. This is a high-damage attack. Move to the side or jump toward the shell to avoid it.
Stay off the ground as much as possible. Fighting from below accomplishes nothing — get back up on the shell at every opportunity.
Repeat the process across all three weak points. Once all three are stabbed and the blue HP bar is completely drained, Phase 2 begins.

Phase 2: Destroy the Magical Jar
When the blue bar empties, the red HP bar appears and the fight moves to its final stage. The Queen Stoneback Crab becomes more defensive. It shakes and thrashes more aggressively, trying to knock you off.
Look toward the top of the creature’s head. A magical clay jar will now be visible, sitting exposed on top. This is the kill target.
Get to the head and attack the jar with regular strikes. Depending on your attack power, it takes a few to several hits to break apart. With Tier 5 or 6 gear, this goes quickly. With lower gear, it can take a while — which is why the gear recommendation matters.
Once the jar shatters, the Queen Stoneback Crab collapses and the fight is over.
Rewards
After defeating the Queen Stoneback Crab, you receive:
- 1x Abyss Artifact (usable for skill upgrades — see our how to get Abyss Cells guide for the broader system)
- 2x Diamond
- 3x Garnet
- 5x Azurite
Pick everything up immediately. If you fast-travel away before collecting, drops can despawn. If you need more Azurite later, our how to get Azurite guide covers other farming locations.
After the Fight: Diederik as a Vendor
Once you complete The Queen’s Lake quest, Diederik becomes available as an armor vendor at the Howling Hill Greymanes camp. He won’t show up immediately though — he requires a certain level of Merchant Tents to be built at the camp first. Check your Camp Upgrades menu and make sure the infrastructure is in place. If he’s not appearing, that’s almost always why.
For more on managing your camp, our Howling Hill upgrade guide has full details on the building requirements.
Tips for the Fight
A couple of extra things worth knowing before you go in:
Storm Veil (the Wind element) is surprisingly handy in this fight. Dropping a smoke cloud when you’ve fallen off the boss and need space to reposition can reset the crab’s attention and give you time to get back up. If you haven’t unlocked it yet, our Wind element Storm Veil guide covers the full unlock process.
Don’t try to learn the geyser pattern. There isn’t one — they’re random. The best counter is speed. Break each deposit and hit each weak point as fast as possible so you’re never sitting still long enough to get caught by one.
Also, Diederik disappears during the fight. Don’t worry about him — he reappears once it’s over.
