All Character Portraits — Locations in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

All Character Portrait locations in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced — all 11 portraits, exact coordinates, unlock requirements, and how to get The Memory of My Enemy trophy.

Character Portraits are a brand new collectible in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. There are 11 in total, scattered across the Caribbean, and hanging all of them in the Great Inagua manor unlocks the The Memory of My Enemy trophy and achievement — plus a bonus treasure map. This guide covers every portrait, where to find it, and what story progress you need first.

  • TL;DR
  • There are 11 Character Portraits to find in AC Black Flag Resynced
  • Portraits are not the same as Paintings — they’re a separate collectible type
  • They do not appear on the map automatically from syncing Viewpoints — you need to get close to them
  • All portraits require some story progress — safest to collect them all after finishing the main story
  • 3 portraits require specific side quests: Blackbeard’s Treasure, Captain Stede Bonnet, and A World Without Gold
  • A World Without Gold also requires recruiting Officers Lucy Baldwin and The Padre first
  • After collecting all 11, hang them in the manor frames to trigger the reward cutscene
  • Reward: The Memory of My Enemy trophy/achievement + a treasure map for Great Inagua

Character Portraits vs Paintings — What’s the Difference

These are two completely different collectible types in the game. Portraits are the 11 character paintings covered in this guide and are tracked under Codex > Database > Portraits. Paintings are a separate set of 12 art pieces obtained from Warehouses and merchants, tracked under Art Collection. Both go on the manor walls, but only the Portraits count toward The Memory of My Enemy. Don’t mix them up.

Important Tips Before You Start

  • Don’t try to collect portraits mid-story. Most portraits only spawn at their locations after you’ve reached or passed the relevant story mission. Collect them all in free roam after completing the main campaign to avoid missing any.
  • Portraits don’t appear on the map from Viewpoints. Unlike chests or shanties, syncing a Viewpoint won’t reveal portrait icons. They only appear on the map when you physically get close to them.
  • Track your progress in Codex > Database > Portraits to see which ones you’re missing by their Codex number.
  • A World Without Gold requires two Officers. You need Lucy Baldwin and The Padre recruited before the questline’s 4th mission unlocks. Complete their opening officer quests first.

Location: Great Inagua — inside the Great Inagua Manor, in the room where you display your weapons (coordinates 827, 443). This is one of the easiest portraits to collect since it’s right in your home base. If it wasn’t there during A Single Madman, return to the manor after completing This Old Cove and it will have spawned. For more on the boss this portrait depicts, see the Julien Du Casse boss guide.

Portrait #2 – Laureano de Torres (Codex #11)

Location: Havana — inside the castle in the north-east of Havana, specifically in the north-west tower (coordinates 224, 595). To reach it, climb to the wooden board slightly to the right above the open window, then use the wooden parts on the wall to drop down into the tower. The portrait is inside. This spawns after story progression.

Portrait #3 – El Tiburon (Codex #10)

Note that the in-game Codex description incorrectly states this is in Castillo — it’s actually in Havana. After you beat the boss, see our El Tiburon guide for reference on the fight.

Portrait #4 – Commodore Chamberlaine (Codex #3)

Location: Santanillas — on a shipwreck in the north-east corner of Santanillas island (coordinates 191, 223). This is the Hornigold shipwreck site from the mission where you assassinate him. The portrait sits in front of the door to the ship’s cabin. Access it after completing that mission.

Portrait #8 – Bartholomew Roberts (Codex #8)

Location: Princípe — inside one of the tents in the north-east of Princípe (local coordinates 113, 20). Princípe is a separate region off the main Caribbean map. To reach it, click the white “P” icon on the far right side of the world map (world coordinates approximately 939, 415). This portrait only appears after reaching Sequence 09, Mission 02: Trust is Earned. When you’re done, run back to your ship and use the steering wheel to return to the main Caribbean map, since fast travel may be locked in this restricted area.

Portrait #9 – Blackbeard (Codex #1)

Location: Reward from the Blackbeard’s Treasure side quest — available after Sequence 08, Mission 01: Do Not Go Gently.

The quest marker appears at Anotto Bay (coordinates 590, 245). Here’s how to complete it:

  • At the cliffside by the sea, find the damaged diving bell and dive down from there
  • Look for an underwater cave entrance near jellyfish — swim through it to reach the interior of Anotto Bay
  • In the room with pirates, grab one of the small explosive barrels and place it against the destructible wall on the east side — shoot the barrel to blow it open
  • Follow the path to the next room, place another barrel at the destructible wall behind the waterfall and blow that open too
  • Blackbeard’s Treasure is behind the second wall
  • After looting the treasure, fast travel back to Great Inagua and interact with the chest there — you get the portrait after the cutscene

Portrait #10 – Stede Bonnet (Codex #2)

Location: Reward from the Captain Stede Bonnet side quest — available after Sequence 08, Mission 03: Marooned.

The quest starts at Great Inagua manor (coordinates 827, 442). For the main objective, sail to Mystery Island and interact with the stranded schooner on the beach (coordinates 906, 123). Follow the crewmates that appear — all objectives are clearly marked. Complete the quest chain to receive Stede Bonnet’s Portrait as the reward.

Portrait #11 – Robert Maynard (Codex #6)

Location: Reward from the A World Without Gold questline — available after Sequence 11, Mission 03: Everything Is Permitted. This is the most involved portrait in the set.

Before you can complete the questline, you need to recruit two Officers:

  • Lucy Baldwin — complete her first two officer quests: A Proper Shipwright (Salt Key Bank: 446, 620) and The One With the Gun (Great Inagua: 818, 445)
  • The Padre — complete his first two officer quests: A Second Chance (Caracol: 446, 620) and Loyalty, Discipline, and Courage (Cumberland Bay: 648, 348)

The full A World Without Gold questline has 8 missions in order:

  • That Bastard Maynard — Great Inagua (818, 446)
  • Not Even a Real Captain — Kingston (616, 154)
  • What the Devil! — Cat Island (728, 705)
  • It’s a Start — Great Inagua (825, 444) — requires both Officers recruited
  • I Just Want to Talk — Nassau (598, 757)
  • Not Our Natural Allies — Santanillas (189, 223)
  • A Cockalorum — Tortuga (847, 338)
  • A World Without Gold — Port Royal (605, 145)

During the final quest in Port Royal, the portrait becomes available below the central Viewpoint of Port Royal (coordinates 602, 134) once the objective Reach Maynard’s Treasure is active. You can grab it during the quest or return to that spot after completing it. See our full A World Without Gold walkthrough for step-by-step help through the whole chain.

How to Hang the Portraits in Great Inagua Manor

Collecting the portraits isn’t enough on its own — you need to physically hang them on the wall frames inside the manor to trigger the trophy. There are 11 wall frames spread across the building:

  • 3 in the fleet planning room and adjacent corridor
  • 1 in the bedroom, above the bed
  • 1 downstairs in the staircase leading to the treasure room
  • 6 in the cellar leading to the treasure room

Interact with each empty wall frame and select a portrait to hang it. When you hang the last portrait, a cutscene triggers and The Memory of My Enemy unlocks immediately after. You also receive a treasure map for Great Inagua as an additional reward.

What You Get for All 11 Portraits

  • The Memory of My Enemy trophy and achievement
  • A treasure map for Great Inagua revealed after the final cutscene

Note that while the Dilettante trophy requires filling the entire manor with art — including 9 Paintings, 41 Art Pieces, 20 Ship Models, 18 Swords, and 12 Pistols — the 11 Portraits are specifically for The Memory of My Enemy. The two trophies require overlapping effort but are tracked separately. Check out the Dilettante trophy guide and Great Inagua upgrades guide if you’re working toward the full manor completion.

FAQs – Character Portraits in AC Black Flag Resynced

How many Character Portraits are in AC Black Flag Resynced?

There are 11 Character Portraits in total. Collecting and hanging all 11 in the Great Inagua manor unlocks The Memory of My Enemy trophy and achievement, plus a treasure map for Great Inagua.

Do Character Portraits appear on the map automatically?

No. Unlike chests and shanties, syncing a Viewpoint does not reveal portrait icons on the map. Portraits only appear as map markers when you physically get close to them. Use the coordinates in this guide to navigate directly to each one.

What side quests are required for Character Portraits?

Three portraits are locked behind side quests: Blackbeard’s Portrait requires completing Blackbeard’s Treasure (available after Sequence 8); Stede Bonnet’s Portrait requires completing the Captain Stede Bonnet quest (available after Sequence 8); Robert Maynard’s Portrait requires completing the entire A World Without Gold questline (available after Sequence 11), which also requires recruiting Officers Lucy Baldwin and The Padre.

When is the best time to collect all Character Portraits?

After finishing the main story. Most portraits are gated behind story progress and won’t spawn at their locations until you’ve passed the relevant mission. Trying to collect them during the campaign means repeatedly hitting invisible walls. Free roam after the credits is the cleanest approach.

There are 11 empty wall frames inside the manor: 3 in the fleet planning room and corridor, 1 in the bedroom above the bed, 1 on the staircase to the treasure room, and 6 in the cellar leading to the treasure room. What is the reward for collecting all Character Portraits?

You unlock The Memory of My Enemy trophy and achievement, and receive a treasure map for Great Inagua after the cutscene plays when hanging the final portrait.

Are Character Portraits the same as Paintings in AC Black Flag Resynced?

No. They are separate collectibles. Portraits are the 11 character paintings covered in this guide and tracked under Codex > Database > Portraits. Paintings are a different set of 12 art pieces from Warehouses and merchants, tracked under Art Collection. Both go on the manor walls but count toward different trophies.
