Tulum Mayan Stone Walkthrough – Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

The Tulum Mayan Stone in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is found on the western side of Tulum, in front of a ruin, in the Conttoyor region. It’s one of the more story-connected stelae in the game — Tulum is where the Mayan Mysteries quest first begins, and it’s also where all 16 collected stones are ultimately returned to open the locked Mayan door and claim the final rewards. The northern section of Tulum is story-gated, so you can’t access this stelae until after Sequence 04, Mission 03: The Sage’s Buried Secret. There’s also a money chest sitting directly behind the stelae, and a buried chest from the Petite Caverne Treasure Map nearby that rewards the Fire Barrel Storage Ultimate Plan.

Where Is Tulum in AC Black Flag Resynced?

Tulum is in the Conttoyor region, on the far western edge of the Caribbean map. It’s the main Assassin stronghold in the game and appears first during the Overrun and Outnumbered main mission in Sequence 04. The island is accessible by sailing west across the map and has no ship combat gate, but the northern section is story-locked until The Sage’s Buried Secret mission is completed. The southern area — including the Mayan door and both southern viewpoints — is accessible earlier in the story, but the stelae and several collectibles in the north require that mission to be done first.

Story Unlock: When Can You Get the Tulum Mayan Stone?

You cannot collect the Tulum Mayan Stone on your first visit during Overrun and Outnumbered. The stelae is in the northern part of Tulum and that section of the island is blocked until you complete Sequence 04, Mission 03: The Sage’s Buried Secret. That mission takes you into the temple for the first time properly and opens up the northern ruins for free exploration. Come back after that mission — or after the main story — and the stelae, northern chests, data file, and secret will all be accessible.

The Mayan Mysteries side quest itself begins when James Kidd shows you the locked Mayan door during Overrun and Outnumbered. You’ll see the door on your first visit but won’t be able to interact with it or solve any puzzle nearby until after The Sage’s Buried Secret.

Where Is the Tulum Mayan Stelae?

The stelae is on the western side of Tulum, in front of a ruin. Sync both Viewpoints when you arrive to pin the marker on your map. The stelae sits next to a ruin structure in the western area, and — usefully — there’s a money chest directly inside the ruin behind the stelae that you can grab immediately after digging up the stone. The Gamer Guides description from the original Black Flag describes the location as a large pyramid structure on the island that you climb to find the stelae at the top — this aligns with the western ruin placement confirmed in Resynced guides.

How to Solve the Tulum Mayan Stelae Puzzle

Climb to the top of the stelae pillar and press the interaction button (Triangle on PS / Y on Xbox). Here is the solution confirmed by PC Gamer’s Resynced guide:

• Flip the overlay almost fully — rotate it close to a near-complete 180 degrees using the right stick.
• Line up the two circles that sit on the same straight line with the top pillar and the right pillar in the ruins below.
• Scale the overlay if needed until all sections lock over the correct highlighted markers on the ground.
• The puzzle completes automatically once all shapes are aligned.

Gamer Guides describes the original solution as rotating the silhouette so the circles line up with the pillars below — the key principle is the same: use the two co-linear circles as your anchor and build the alignment from there. Once the puzzle completes, climb down and dig up the Mayan Stone from the green marker on the ground. Don’t skip the dig — solving the puzzle and collecting the stone are always two separate steps.

Grab the Chest Behind the Stelae

PowerPyx’s dedicated Tulum collectible page confirms that Chest 4 is right behind the Mayan Stelae, inside the ruin. After you dig up the stone, step into the ruin directly behind the pillar and open it. It’s a money chest and counts toward the island’s total. This is one of the most conveniently placed bonus pickups in the entire Mayan Stone collectible set — no extra navigation needed.

The Petite Caverne Treasure Map — Fire Barrel Storage Ultimate Plan

The Petite Caverne Treasure Map is found on a skeleton tied to a post behind wooden crates and barrels in the Petite Caverne smuggler’s encampment. Once you have it in your inventory, head to Tulum at coordinates 40, 372. PowerPyx places the dig site near the southern section of the island, on the southern sandbar near coconut palms. Dig there to claim the Fire Barrel Storage Ultimate Plan and 3,000 Reales. The Fire Barrel Storage Ultimate Plan is one of the six ship upgrade plans needed for full Jackdaw progression and is worth grabbing as early as possible. Tulum Is the Final Destination for All 16 Mayan Stones

Collecting the Tulum stelae is just one part of the story here. Tulum is also the place you return to once all 16 Mayan Stones are in your inventory. After collecting the last stone, a quest marker labelled Mayan Outfit appears at Tulum in the Conttoyor region. Head to the locked Mayan door near the beach in the northeast of the Tulum ruins. Interact with it and choose the Place Stone prompt to unlock the door. Complete a short climbing sequence inside the temple to reach the raised tower and claim your two rewards:

• Mayan Outfit — A Legendary cosmetic outfit with no gameplay effect in Resynced. Purely visual.
• Yax Tun Pendant — A Legendary Trinket. Its perk: all gunshots are mysteriously absorbed. This makes Edward immune to musket and pistol fire from enemies, which transforms combat and boarding sequences entirely. Unlike the original 2013 game, you do not need to wear the Mayan Outfit to get this effect — the pendant works independently with any outfit equipped.
