Where Is Santanillas in AC Black Flag Resynced
Santanillas is a small island in the Chinchorro region, located in the southwest part of the Caribbean map. Look for coordinates 186, 222 on your map and sail there directly.
The island appears on your map once you sync a viewpoint in or near the Chinchorro region. If the stele marker is not showing yet, sync the viewpoint on Santanillas first and it will appear.

Important Note – Only One Mayan Stone at Santanillas in Resynced
In the original 2013 version of Black Flag, Santanillas had two Mayan Stelae. In Resynced, one of them has been moved. The second stele was relocated to Sacrifice Island, which is a brand new location added in the remake.
So if you are following an older guide and expecting two stones here, do not worry. There is only one to find at Santanillas now. You can find the other one at Sacrifice Island Mayan Stone.
How to Reach the Santanillas Mayan Stele
Once you land on Santanillas, head toward the center of the island. The ruins are easy to spot and the stele pillar sits right in the middle of them.
- Sail to Santanillas (coordinates 186, 222)
- Sync the viewpoint if you have not already
- Head to the center of the ruins
- Look for the tall Mayan pillar standing among the stone structures
- Climb to the top of the pillar
- Press the interact button to investigate the stele
There are enemies on the island. It is a good idea to clear them out or sneak past them before attempting the puzzle, so you are not interrupted mid-solve.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Santanillas Mayan Stone Puzzle Solution
Once you reach the top of the stele and press investigate, Edward activates Eagle Vision. A glowing white pattern appears on the ground below you. Several stone pillars in the ruins will highlight.
Your job is to rotate and align the glowing pattern until its circles line up with the stone pillars on the ground below.
Here is how to solve it:
- Flip the overlay so the two circles align with the pillars below
- The pattern needs to sit parallel over the pillar structures in the ruins
- Once aligned correctly, a section of ground will begin to glow
- Climb down from the stele and walk to the glowing spot
- Interact with the dig site – the dig site appears right in the center of the puzzle area
- Collect the Mayan Stone from the ground
Remember – solving the puzzle and collecting the stone are two separate steps. You must physically go to the dig spot and pick up the stone after completing the alignment.
Why the Santanillas Mayan Stone Matters
Each Mayan Stone you collect brings you closer to completing the Mayan Mysteries side quest. You need all 16 stones to open a locked door in Tulum.
The rewards behind that door are worth it:
- Mayan Outfit – A legendary cosmetic outfit (no gameplay effect in Resynced)
- Yax Tun Pendant – A legendary trinket that makes all gunshots absorbed. This means enemy bullets cannot damage you while wearing it.
The Yax Tun Pendant is especially powerful during late-game naval battles and boarding sequences where enemy gunfire is a constant threat. See our All Mayan Stelae Locations guide for the full list.
How Mayan Stele Puzzles Work in Black Flag Resynced
If you are new to these puzzles, here is a quick breakdown of the mechanic:
- Find the Mayan pillar at each location
- Climb to the top and press the investigation button
- Eagle Vision activates and shows a glowing pattern on the ground
- Rotate and scale the pattern to match highlighted rocks, pillars, or ruins nearby
- When the match is correct, the dig spot glows on the ground
- Go down, walk to the spot, and interact to dig up the Mayan Stone
The puzzle resets each time you approach, so there is no partial progress saved. Work section by section rather than spinning the whole pattern at once. You will solve it quickly that way.
You also need to sync viewpoints in a region before the stele markers appear on your map. If a marker is missing, check if you have visited the nearby viewpoint.
Where to Go After Getting the Santanillas Mayan Stone
Once you have picked up the Santanillas stone, keep working through the rest of the Mayan Mysteries quest. Here are the other stones you may want to collect next, grouped by region:
- Tulum Mayan Stone – Conttoyor region (also where the final door is)
- Sacrifice Island Mayan Stone – The stone relocated from original Santanillas
- Pinos Isle Mayan Stones – Two stones on the same island
- Tortuga Mayan Stone – Punta Guarico region
- Cat Island Mayan Stone – Clear enemies before solving
- Matanzas Mayan Stone
- Cape Bonavista Mayan Stone – Dry Tortuga region
- Great Inagua Mayan Stone – Your home base, south of the Manor
Note that the Long Bay stele is locked until you start Sequence 10 and begin The Observatory main quest. You cannot complete the full quest until that point.
What to Do After Collecting All 16 Mayan Stones
Once you have all 16 Mayan Stones, travel to Tulum in the Conttoyor region. Look for the Mayan Outfit quest marker on the west side of the Tulum map.
- Approach the sealed Mayan door
- Interact with it and select “Place Stone” to use all 16 stones
- The door opens, revealing a pathway inside the temple
- Complete a short platforming section inside
- Reach the altar at the top to claim your rewards
You will receive the Mayan Outfit and the Yax Tun Pendant. The pendant is the real prize – it makes you immune to all gunfire, which completely changes how you fight in the later stages of the game.
