Who Is Baizhu in Genshin Impact?

Baizhu is a 5-star Dendro Catalyst character in Genshin Impact, released in Version 3.6. He is the owner of Bubu Pharmacy in Liyue Harbor and one of the most respected physicians in Teyvat. Alongside his encyclopedic knowledge of medicine and herbs, he is almost never seen without the white snake coiled around his shoulders — a creature named Changsheng, with whom he shares a centuries-old contract.

Baizhu is a character who has been present in Genshin Impact’s story since the very early days of the game, making appearances in Liyue’s Archon Quest as a curious and slightly unsettling figure who seemed to know more than he let on. His true motivation was eventually revealed: he seeks immortality — not for personal gain, but so he can be the last person to ever bear his contract with Changsheng. Every holder of the contract before him has suffered for it. By living forever, he hopes to ensure no one after him ever has to take on that burden.

His gentle, reserved demeanor is genuine. He cares deeply for his patients, for Qiqi (who lives at his pharmacy and whom he serves as a guardian), and for the people around him. In battle, his healing is the physical expression of that care — his Seamless Shields protect his teammates constantly, his Elemental Skill and Burst heal the entire party, and his Dendro application enables powerful reactions that make his whole team stronger.

You can play Genshin Impact on Android, iOS, PlayStation, Epic Games, and Xbox.

    Baizhu

    Baizhu’s Role and Playstyle

Baizhu fills a uniquely complete support role that no other character in the game replicates exactly. He is a Dendro Healer, Shielder, and Off-Field Dendro Applicator — all in one character slot. Running Baizhu means you never need a second healer or shielder, freeing up two other team slots for DPS or reaction supports.

His kit works across two general modes:

    • Dendro Support Build – The most common and most impactful build. Baizhu uses his Skill and Burst quickly, applies the Deepwood Memories Dendro RES shred through Dendro hits, heals the party passively, and then swaps off-field while his Seamless Shields rotate through teammates. This build prioritizes HP, Healing Bonus, and Energy Recharge.
    • On-Field Dendro Driver Build – A less common but viable alternative where Baizhu stays on-field and uses Normal Attacks to drive Dendro reactions in Bloom, Hyperbloom, or Burgeon teams. He applies consistent Dendro through his Catalyst’s Normal Attacks while healing simultaneously.

His most notable team roles are in Aggravate, Hyperbloom, Bloom, and Spread teams where Dendro RES shred (from Deepwood Memories) and his 4th Ascension Passive’s reaction DMG bonus directly amplify the damage output of the whole team. He is especially valuable in teams with characters who stay on-field and need constant healing and protection — Cyno, Alhaitham, and Nilou are his most natural partners.

    Baizhu’s Abilities and Talents

Normal Attack – The Classics of Acupuncture

Baizhu performs up to three consecutive strikes with his catalyst, each dealing Dendro DMG. His Charged Attack deals AoE Dendro DMG. His Plunging Attack drops from mid-air for AoE Dendro impact damage. In support builds, Normal Attack is the lowest talent priority and rarely invested in. In on-field driver builds, it becomes more relevant for consistent Dendro application.

    Elemental Skill – Universal Diagnosis

Baizhu controls Changsheng to send out three Gossamer Sprites that seek out opponents, deal Dendro DMG on contact, and then return. When each Sprite returns, it heals the active party member for an amount based on Baizhu’s Max HP. If there are no opponents in range or after hitting enemies the required number of times, the Sprites return immediately and heal regardless.

This Skill generates Dendro elemental particles and provides reliable burst healing. Each use sends all three Sprites, making it an efficient single-cast heal for the active character. It is her second priority talent after the Burst.

    Elemental Burst – Illusory Heart

Baizhu summons the Shangjing Region, a field that lasts 15 seconds. While active, it continuously generates Seamless Shields that absorb damage for the currently active character, switching automatically between party members. Additionally, Changsheng strikes nearby enemies periodically, dealing Dendro DMG and healing the active character for an amount based on Baizhu’s Max HP.

This is his most important talent. The Burst provides everything Baizhu is known for simultaneously — off-field Dendro application, constant healing pulses, and rotating shield coverage for every character. Level this to at least 9 or 10 for best results.

1st Ascension Passive – Five Fortunes Forever

Baizhu gains different effects depending on the current HP of the active character when he is on the field:

    • If the active character has 50% or less HP: Baizhu gains a 20% Healing Bonus.
    • If the active character has more than 50% HP: Baizhu gains 25 Elemental Mastery.

The Healing Bonus version is more situationally powerful, but the EM bonus activates in most normal combat situations where allies are healthy. Both versions are useful depending on context.

4th Ascension Passive – All Things Are of the Earth

This is the most important passive for understanding Baizhu’s team value. Characters who are healed by Baizhu’s Seamless Shields gain the Curative Essence buff: their Dendro-related reaction DMG — including Burning, Quicken, Aggravate, Spread, Bloom, Hyperbloom, and Burgeon — is increased by an amount equal to 2% of Baizhu’s Max HP for 6 seconds. This buff can stack up to 4 times.

At 50,000 HP, each stack adds 1,000 reaction DMG. With 4 stacks, the buff contributes 4,000 additional flat damage to every Dendro reaction your team triggers. This makes investing heavily in Baizhu’s HP not just a healing choice, but a direct team damage increase.

    Utility Passive – Herbal Medicine

When Baizhu is in the party, the time required for crafting Potions is reduced by 25%. A minor quality-of-life bonus with no direct combat effect.

    Talent Priority for Baizhu

    • Elemental Burst first – Illusory Heart is the source of his off-field healing, Seamless Shields, Dendro application, and team DMG buff through his 4th Ascension Passive. Level to 9 or 10.
    • Elemental Skill second – Universal Diagnosis provides on-demand healing for the active character and generates Dendro particles to fuel his Burst. Level to 8.
    • Normal Attack last – Only invest in Normal Attack for on-field driver builds. Skip it entirely for support builds.

    Best Weapons for Baizhu

    5-Star Weapons

    • Jadefall’s Splendor – His signature weapon and best-in-slot for most builds. Provides a massive HP% secondary stat and a passive that regenerates Energy and grants increased Elemental DMG Bonus periodically. The HP stat directly boosts his healing output and his 4th Ascension Passive reaction DMG bonus. The Energy restoration passive significantly reduces his ER requirements from artifacts. A perfectly tailored weapon for every aspect of his kit.
    • Kagura’s Verity – Provides CRIT DMG and stacking Elemental Skill DMG bonuses. Less ideal since Baizhu doesn’t use his Skill frequently enough to maintain stacks. Better on dedicated DPS Catalyst characters.

    4-Star Weapons

    • Prototype Amber (Craftable) – His best free-to-play weapon. Provides HP% and, when Baizhu uses his Elemental Burst, restores 4 Energy over 6 seconds and heals all party members for 4% of their Max HP. Both the HP stat and the passive are directly useful for his healer role. Freely craftable at the Blacksmith and fully functional for all content. Highly recommended for players without his signature weapon.
    • Favonius Codex – Provides Energy Recharge and generates Elemental Particles for the whole team on CRIT hits. Requires some CRIT Rate on artifacts to proc the passive, but the team-wide energy generation is extremely valuable in teams where multiple characters have high Burst costs. Works best alongside Favonius weapon holders on other teammates.
    • Sacrificial Fragments – Provides Elemental Mastery and can reset Elemental Skill cooldown on a CRIT hit. The EM stat helps amplify Dendro reactions through his Normal Attacks in driver builds, and the Skill reset gives him more healing flexibility. A versatile option for Bloom or driver builds.
    • Hakushin Ring (Craftable) – Provides Energy Recharge and gives Electro and Dendro DMG bonuses to team members after Baizhu triggers Quicken-related reactions. Best in Aggravate teams with Fischl or Raiden Shogun where Quicken is triggered frequently.
    • Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers (3-star) – The classic budget support weapon. The 48% ATK buff to the next character you swap to is unmatched for team ATK boosting. Only worth using if Baizhu is a quick-swap support who immediately passes to a main ATK-scaling DPS. Less effective than Prototype Amber for pure healing and ER needs.

    Best Artifacts for Baizhu

Dendro Support Build – 4-Piece Deepwood Memories

This is his best and most recommended artifact set for Dendro teams. The 2-piece provides 15% Dendro DMG Bonus. The 4-piece bonus activates whenever Baizhu’s Elemental Skill or Burst hits an enemy — it reduces the target’s Dendro RES by 30% for 8 seconds. This resistance shred applies to all Dendro damage and Dendro-related reactions dealt by the entire team, making it one of the strongest team buffs available for a support character to maintain.

Baizhu’s Burst hits enemies periodically throughout its 15-second duration, meaning the Deepwood RES shred has excellent uptime with minimal effort. No one else in the team needs to hold this set, freeing your Dendro DPS characters like Nahida and Alhaitham to use their own offensive sets. Deepwood Memories on Baizhu is the most resin-efficient way to maintain this team buff in most compositions.

    Alternative – 4-Piece Ocean-Hued Clam

The best artifact set for maximizing Baizhu’s personal healing output and adding off-field Physical damage. The 4-piece converts overhealing into physical damage bubbles that explode periodically near enemies. Since Baizhu heals frequently and allies are often at full HP, excess healing generates these bubbles constantly. This set is the better choice when your team does not need Dendro RES shred — such as in Physical teams where Baizhu is the dedicated healer with no Dendro reaction synergy required.

    Alternative – 4-Piece Noblesse Oblige

If your team already has another character holding Deepwood Memories, Baizhu can run 4-piece Noblesse Oblige to give all party members a 20% ATK boost for 12 seconds after he uses his Elemental Burst. With his Burst active for 15 seconds and a relatively short cooldown, the team ATK buff has good uptime. Best in teams where Dendro RES shred is already covered by another source and ATK-scaling DPS characters benefit most from the buff.

    Recommended Artifact Main Stats

    • Sands: HP% or Energy Recharge
    • Goblet: HP%
    • Circlet: Healing Bonus or HP%

    Recommended Substats

HP% > Energy Recharge (aim for 180% minimum, 200%+ without Jadefall’s Splendor) > HP flat > Healing Bonus. Aim for at least 50,000 Max HP to maximize his 4th Ascension Passive reaction DMG bonus at 4 stacks. Never invest in CRIT stats unless using Favonius Codex, where some CRIT Rate is needed to proc its passive.

    Best Team Compositions for Baizhu

    Baizhu Aggravate Team (Alhaitham)

    • Alhaitham (Dendro Main DPS) + Fischl (Electro Sub-DPS) + Baizhu (Dendro Healer / Buffer) + Kaedehara Kazuha (Anemo / EM Buffer)

One of Baizhu’s strongest teams. Alhaitham deals massive Spread and Aggravate damage. Fischl provides consistent off-field Electro for Quicken and Aggravate reactions. Baizhu applies Deepwood Memories Dendro RES shred, heals the team, and buffs Dendro reaction damage through his 4th Ascension Passive. Kazuha shreds Electro and Dendro resistance with VV and shares EM. Baizhu’s ability to sustain the team while enabling Aggravate through Dendro application makes him essential in this lineup. See our full Alhaitham build guide for more details on this team.

    Baizhu Hyperbloom Team

    • Baizhu (Dendro Driver) + Sangonomiya Kokomi (Hydro / Healer) + Raiden Shogun (Electro Hyperbloom Trigger) + Fischl (Electro Sub-DPS)

Baizhu stays on-field as the Dendro driver, applying Dendro with Normal Attacks while Kokomi provides Hydro for Bloom seed generation. Raiden and Fischl provide Electro to detonate seeds into Hyperbloom. Baizhu’s consistent Dendro application keeps Bloom seeds generating throughout the entire rotation. His healing removes the need for a dedicated healer since both Baizhu and Kokomi provide sustain together. A very strong and self-sufficient reaction team.

    Baizhu Cyno Team (Aggravate)

    • Cyno (Electro Main DPS) + Baizhu (Dendro Healer / Support) + Fischl (Electro Sub-DPS) + Nahida (Dendro Sub-DPS)

Cyno is one of Baizhu’s most natural partners. He stays on-field for long Burst windows and needs consistent healing and Dendro application to maintain Quicken throughout his Burst duration. Baizhu’s Seamless Shields, constant healing pulses, and off-field Dendro from his Burst keep Cyno alive and protected without taking field time away from him. Nahida provides additional Dendro application. Fischl’s Oz generates Electro for sustained Quicken and Aggravate. See our Cyno build guide for the full team breakdown.

    Baizhu Nilou Bloom Team

    • Nilou (Hydro DPS / Bloom Enabler) + Baizhu (Dendro / Healer) + Nahida (Dendro Main) + Sangonomiya Kokomi (Hydro / Healer)

Nilou’s unique passive creates Bountiful Cores — enhanced Bloom seeds — when the team is exclusively Hydro and Dendro. Baizhu fits this requirement perfectly, providing off-field Dendro while healing the team. Nahida contributes the primary Dendro application and reaction management. Kokomi heals and applies additional Hydro. Baizhu’s role here is to sustain the team through Bountiful Core self-damage while keeping Dendro application high for maximum Bloom generation. For more on this team see our Nilou build guide.

    Baizhu with Furina (Healing Battery)

    • Neuvillette or Alhaitham (Main DPS) + Furina (Sub-DPS / Buffer) + Baizhu (Dendro / Healer) + Nahida or Kazuha (Support)

Furina drains HP to generate Fanfare stacks but needs a strong healer to keep the team alive while doing so. Baizhu’s consistent healing through both his Burst and Skill handles this perfectly. With Baizhu sustaining the team, Furina can stack Fanfare to its maximum, giving the main DPS a massive DMG Bonus buff. Prototype Amber is especially valuable in this pairing — it heals the team on Baizhu’s Burst use, immediately providing HP restoration to offset Furina’s drain. See our Furina build guide for details.

    Baizhu Constellations Guide

Baizhu is a 5-star limited character. His constellations meaningfully improve his off-field Dendro application and healing output. C0 is already strong in all content, but C2 and C6 are notably impactful. Here is what each constellation provides:

    • C1 – Attentive Observation: Universal Diagnosis (Elemental Skill) gains one additional Gossamer Sprite charge. This gives Baizhu a second charge of his Skill, allowing him to heal twice in quick succession if needed. Useful for emergency healing situations where the team is taking heavy damage.
    • C2 – Incisive Discernment: When the active character within the Shangjing Region (Burst field) triggers a Dendro-related reaction, the Seamless Shield is enhanced: it deals 300% of Baizhu’s ATK as Dendro DMG to nearby enemies when it refreshes. Additionally, the Seamless Shield’s healing is increased by 20%. This is his most impactful constellation for off-field Dendro damage output — the Dendro hits from refreshing shields add meaningful damage and trigger additional Dendro reactions, especially useful in Hyperbloom and Aggravate teams.
    • C3 – All Aspects Stabilize: Increases Illusory Heart (Elemental Burst) level by 3 (max level 15). Boosts healing from Burst pulses and the Dendro DMG dealt by Changsheng strikes.
    • C4 – Ancient Art of Perception: For 15 seconds after Baizhu uses Illusory Heart, all nearby party members gain a 10% Dendro DMG Bonus. Stacks with other DMG bonuses. A clean team-wide Dendro buff that activates automatically with every Burst rotation.
    • C5 – The Hidden Ode of Iridescence: Increases Universal Diagnosis (Elemental Skill) level by 3 (max level 15). Boosts healing from the Gossamer Sprites and their Dendro DMG on hit.
    • C6 – Elimination of Malicious Qi: Increases Baizhu’s chance to generate a Seamless Shield when it expires by 100% (making it guaranteed) and doubles the Burst DMG dealt by the Shangjing Region’s Changsheng strikes. The guaranteed shield generation dramatically improves his practical shielding consistency. The doubled Burst DMG is a notable personal damage increase. C6 significantly tightens the gap between shield uptime losses at lower constellations.

Summary: C2 is the most impactful constellation, adding substantial off-field Dendro damage output to his Burst. C6 improves shielding reliability and personal damage. C0 Baizhu is already excellent in all team types listed above and does not require any constellations to perform his full support role.

    Baizhu Ascension Materials

To fully ascend Baizhu from Level 1 to Level 90, you need:

    • Nagadus Emerald (Sliver, Fragment, Chunk, Gemstone) – Dropped by Dendro bosses including the Jadeplume Terrorshroom (Sumeru), Dendro Hypostasis (Sumeru), and the Guardian of Apep’s Oasis (Sumeru). Can also be crafted using Dust of Azoth and other gemstones through alchemy.
    • Evergloom Ring – Dropped by the Iniquitous Baptist boss, located in the Girdle of the Sands area of Sumeru’s northern desert region. Costs 40 Original Resin per claim. You need 46 total. The Iniquitous Baptist cycles through Pyro, Cryo, and Electro phases — bring characters who can break each elemental shield efficiently for faster clears.
    • Violetgrass – A Liyue local specialty found on the cliff sides and rocky slopes throughout Liyue, particularly around Mingyun Village, Wuwang Hill, Qingce Village, and areas west of Liyue Harbor. You need 168 total. They regrow every 2–3 days. A small stock can be purchased from Herbalist Gui in Liyue Harbor in limited quantities.
    • Fungal drops (Fungal Spores, Luminescent Pollen, Crystalline Cyst Dust) – Dropped by Fungi enemies found throughout Sumeru. These mushroom-like creatures appear in both the rainforest and desert areas. Farm them while completing Sumeru exploration.

Note that while Baizhu is a Liyue character by lore, most of his ascension materials (Evergloom Rings, Fungal drops) come from Sumeru. The Violetgrass is the only Liyue material he requires. Plan farming routes accordingly.

    Baizhu Talent Materials

To fully upgrade all three of Baizhu’s talents, you need:

    • Teachings, Guide, and Philosophies of Gold – Obtained from the Taishan Mansion domain in Liyue on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This is the same domain used for Xiao, Hu Tao, Ganyu, and other Liyue characters.
    • Fungal drops (all three tiers) – Same drops as his ascension material. Farm Fungi in Sumeru.
    • Worldspan Fern – A weekly boss drop from defeating the Guardian of Apep’s Oasis at the Realm of Beginnings trounce domain in Sumeru. This boss is unlocked after completing Nahida’s second Story Quest (Act 2). You need 18 total across all three talents. The Guardian also drops Nagadus Emeralds, making it a dual-purpose farming target for Baizhu’s materials.
    • Crown of Insight – Required to max any talent to level 10. Obtained from limited-time events and special seasonal offerings.

    Should You Pull for Baizhu?

Baizhu is a limited 5-star character who appears on event banners periodically since his release in Version 3.6. He is one of the most versatile and independently capable supports in the game.

He is an excellent pull if you:

    • Run any Dendro reaction team — Aggravate, Hyperbloom, Bloom, Spread, or Burgeon.
    • Need a character who can provide healing, shields, and off-field Dendro all in one slot, freeing up your other three slots for damage dealers.
    • Play characters like Cyno, Alhaitham, or Nilou who stay on-field for extended durations and need consistent sustain alongside Dendro support.
    • Want a healer who is also a meaningful team damage amplifier through his 4th Ascension Passive.

He is less necessary if you don’t play Dendro reaction teams at all, or if you already have Kokomi handling Hydro application in a Hyperbloom team and only need Dendro from Nahida off-field. In non-Dendro teams, Kokomi or Jean are typically stronger healers for the same slot.

Baizhu vs Kokomi — When to Use Each

    • Baizhu is the better pick in Dendro-centric teams — Aggravate, Hyperbloom, Bloom, Spread — where his Deepwood Memories shred, 4th Ascension Passive reaction DMG buff, and simultaneous Dendro application provide irreplaceable team value beyond just healing.
    • Kokomi is the better pick in Freeze and Hydro-centric teams where consistent Hydro application is needed instead of Dendro, and where her longer Burst uptime and stronger raw healing throughput during Burst state outperform Baizhu’s slower healing cycle.
    • They are not in direct competition for most teams because they apply different elements and serve different reaction ecosystems. Many players comfortably use both — Kokomi for one Spiral Abyss team, Baizhu for the other.

    Baizhu Quick Tips

    • Aim for at least 50,000 Max HP. This is the approximate threshold where his 4th Ascension Passive contributes 1,000 flat damage per stack (4,000 at maximum stacks) to all Dendro reactions. Both his healing and his passive team damage scaling max out with high HP investment.
    • His Seamless Shields do not block damage the way Zhongli’s shield does. They absorb a small amount of damage before breaking, but they regenerate frequently. Do not expect him to fully tank heavy hits — he provides protection through healing and frequent shield refreshes, not raw shield strength.
    • Use his Elemental Skill before his Burst in rotations. The Skill generates Dendro particles that help fill his Burst cost, and the heal from the Sprites ensures the active character is at high HP before Changsheng’s periodic hits begin.
    • In teams with Furina, equip Prototype Amber on Baizhu. The weapon’s on-Burst HP restoration directly counters Furina’s constant HP drain, making the team far more stable across multiple rotations without external healing support.
    • Baizhu’s Deepwood Memories shred only triggers when his Skill or Burst hits an enemy. Make sure enemies are in range of his Gossamer Sprites and Changsheng strikes to maintain the 30% Dendro RES reduction consistently.
    • If using Favonius Codex, build enough CRIT Rate (at least 40–50%) to proc its passive reliably. The team energy generation it provides can justify this investment, especially in teams with high Burst costs like Raiden Shogun or Cyno.

    Frequently Asked Questions About Baizhu

Is Baizhu good in Genshin Impact?

Yes. Baizhu is one of the best support characters for Dendro reaction teams. He is the only character in the game who provides healing, shields, off-field Dendro application, Dendro RES shred (through Deepwood Memories), and a reaction DMG bonus simultaneously. In Aggravate, Hyperbloom, Bloom, and Nilou Bloom teams, he is one of the strongest supports available.

    What makes Baizhu unique?

He is the only character who can fulfill the healer, shielder, and off-field Dendro applicator roles in a single slot. His 4th Ascension Passive also directly buffs all Dendro reaction damage scaling with his HP, making him a damage amplifier on top of his sustain role. No other healer in the game provides this combination of team support and Dendro synergy.

What is the best artifact for Baizhu?

4-piece Deepwood Memories is his best set for Dendro reaction teams — it reduces enemy Dendro RES by 30% through his Skill and Burst hits, benefiting the whole team. 4-piece Ocean-Hued Clam is better for pure healer builds in non-Dendro teams. 4-piece Noblesse Oblige is a good alternative if another character is already holding Deepwood Memories.

    What is Baizhu’s best weapon?

Jadefall’s Splendor is his signature and best-in-slot — it provides HP%, Energy restoration, and Elemental DMG Bonus. Prototype Amber is his best free-to-play option, providing HP% and healing on Burst use. Favonius Codex is excellent if you need team energy generation.

    What are Baizhu’s ascension materials?

He needs Nagadus Emerald (Dendro gemstones), Evergloom Rings from the Iniquitous Baptist in Sumeru’s Girdle of the Sands, Violetgrass from cliff sides across Liyue, and Fungal drops from Fungi enemies in Sumeru. For talents, he uses Gold books from Taishan Mansion domain on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, plus Worldspan Fern from the Guardian of Apep’s Oasis weekly boss.

    Who works best with Baizhu?

Alhaitham, Cyno, and Nilou are his best main DPS partners. Fischl, Raiden Shogun, and Nahida are his best reaction support teammates. Furina pairs exceptionally well with Baizhu as a healer since he fully sustains the team while she drains HP for Fanfare stacks.
