Control Resonant The Last Taxi Quest

The Last Taxi is a Side Story in Control Resonant that sends Dylan hunting down seven mysterious taxis scattered across Manhattan. Each one pulls him into a foggy pocket dimension called a Threshold, where a trapped civilian named Mila is waiting on the other end of a payphone. Solve three taxi puzzle rounds in each Threshold to move on.

This guide covers all seven taxi locations, every puzzle solution in order, traversal requirements, and how The Last Taxi connects to the Threshold Researcher achievement.

    TL;DR

    • There are seven taxis to find — one in each zone: Downtown, Central, Evacuation Zone, West Incursion Zone, The Park, Underpass, and Unknown.
    • The quest starts automatically when you enter any of the seven anomalous taxis.
    • Each taxi sends Dylan into a Threshold. Find the ringing payphone in the alley and answer it first before attempting the taxi puzzles.
    • Each Threshold has three rounds. Pick the correct taxi in each round to complete it.
    • The puzzle clue changes per zone: lights, sounds, shadows, or Mold repair.
    • You can complete all seven taxis in any order, though some zones require Shift or Reach to access.
    • The quest is not missable — unfinished taxis remain available in free roam after the main story.
    • Completing The Last Taxi counts toward the Threshold Researcher trophy/achievement.

How The Last Taxi Quest Works

Seven driverless yellow taxis are parked across Manhattan. When you get close to one, it honks and flashes its lights. It also appears on your minimap. Interact with the open door to enter.

The cab delivers Dylan into a Threshold — a foggy, distorted version of the city. Before the puzzle starts, you need to find a ringing payphone in a side alley and answer it. The caller is Mila, a civilian who is trapped in the same dimension. She explains the situation and the puzzle begins after the call ends.

Each Threshold has three rounds. In each round, a group of taxis is parked on the street. One of them is different from the rest. Find it and enter it. A green light means you chose correctly. A red light means you were wrong — the round stays active and you can try again without losing progress. Complete all three rounds and you return to Manhattan.

Important: Always answer Mila’s payphone before trying any of the taxis. Nothing will happen until the call is complete. If you enter a taxi and nothing responds, go back to the alley and find the payphone first.

    Traversal Ability Requirements

A few taxis are in areas locked behind traversal abilities:

    • Shift — needed to access the West Incursion Zone taxi. Unlock it by completing The Incursion Fault in the Parking Garage.
    • Reach — needed to properly navigate the Evacuation Zone and access the Underpass. Unlock it at the Subway Fault.

You can do the remaining taxis in any order once their zones are open.

All 7 Taxi Locations and Puzzle Solutions

    1. West Incursion Zone Taxi

Location: On the route toward the Theater, near Empire Avenue Station. The Patterning has twisted the local layout, so the cab may appear on a surface above street level. You need Shift to reach it.

    Puzzle theme: Streetlight rhythm

    • Round 1: Watch the streetlights. Enter the taxi parked under the single flashing streetlight.
    • Round 2: Enter the taxi under the only streetlight that is not flashing — the one that stays steady.
    • Round 3: Watch one full cycle. Enter the taxi under the streetlight that blinks out of sync with all the others.

    2. Central Taxi

Control Resonant The Last Taxi Quest Central Taxi

Location: In an alley west of the Patterned Factory, near the Field Office area. It is in a back alley northeast of the Field Office.

Puzzle theme: Vehicle lights — headlights, rear brake lights, and rooftop taxi sign

    • Round 1: Enter the taxi that has all lights switched on while the rest are dark.
    • Round 2: Enter the taxi with only its rooftop taxi sign lit — headlights and taillights are off.
    • Round 3: Enter the taxi with its headlights, taillights, and rooftop sign all on at the same time.

    3. Downtown Taxi

Location: In the eastern part of Downtown, near the northern end of a road in a traffic jam of parked cars.

Puzzle theme: Sound and rooftop sign proximity

    • Round 1: Listen carefully. Enter the taxi making a distinct indicator ticking sound with its rooftop sign lit.
    • Round 2: Walk up to each cab one by one. Enter the taxi whose rooftop light turns on as you approach it — others stay dark.
    • Round 3: Approach each taxi again. Only one will have its rooftop light turn on when you get close — enter that one.

    4. Evacuation Zone Taxi

Location: In the center of the Evacuation Zone, in an alley between buildings near a group of laser hazards.

Puzzle theme: Flashing light timing and rhythm

    • Round 1: Watch the taxis flash their lights. Enter the taxi that flashes out of sync with all the others.
    • Round 2: Watch again. Enter the taxi that flashes its lights twice while all others flash only once.
    • Round 3: Enter the taxi that does not flash at all and stays completely dark while the others light up.

    5. The Park Taxi

Location: Southwest of the Mold Factory fast travel point, on the top floor of a parking garage. Climb the blue Mold on the northwest street corner to reach the garage roof. The vendor truck is on that level — drop down one floor to find the taxi.

Puzzle theme: Mold destruction and taxi assembly (this one is completely different from the others)

    • Round 1: Destroy the grey Mold clumps around the taxi. Parts are hidden inside. Collect the hood and trunk and attach them to the taxi. Once you hear a click, enter it.
    • Round 2: Avoid the explosive Mold clumps this time. Find and attach the two wheels and the yellow hood to the taxi. Do not use the blue spare — it is the wrong part.
    • Round 3: Destroy the Mold tethered directly to the cab first — these threads are what allow the Mold to keep regenerating. Then assemble the remaining parts: wheel protector, rear bumper, hood, and taxi sign. Wrong parts will look obviously out of place or will not fit cleanly.

    6. Underpass Taxi

Location: In the Deeper Underpass, on a ledge in the research area past the cable car. This zone opens during the Recursions and Iterations main quest. Fast travel to “Research Site… Again” and look northeast for the taxi in the corner of the large room with Mold.

Puzzle theme: Streetlight vs taxi light inversion

    • Round 1: When the streetlights go out, enter the taxi that keeps its own lights on while the others switch off too.
    • Round 2: When the streetlights go out again, enter the taxi that turns its lights off at the same time as the streetlights — its headlights and taillights both go dark.
    • Round 3: Watch for a full cycle. Enter the taxi whose lights are never on at the same time as the streetlights — it stays dark when the street is lit and lit when the street goes dark.

    7. Unknown Zone Taxi

Location: On the southern island of the Unknown zone, on the west side near the Evac Building. This is the endgame area and requires significant story progress — specifically into Pope’s Research — before it is accessible.

Puzzle theme: Shadow identification using a movable hand light

    • Round 1: Use the hand light to illuminate each taxi from behind. Enter the only taxi casting a normal taxi-shaped shadow. The others cast shadows of wrong shapes — diggers, trucks, and other vehicles.
    • Round 2: Use the lamp again on each cab. Find the taxi whose shadow shows a correct taxi silhouette with the rooftop sign visible.
    • Round 3: Look near the subway stairs. Find the cab whose shadow is the right taxi shape from that angle and enter it.

How to Finish The Last Taxi

After completing all seven Threshold puzzles, a payphone somewhere in the city rings one final time. Answer it for one last call from Mila. She says she is going to take her chance and get into a taxi herself. Her fate is left deliberately unresolved — the quest closes after this call, but there is no epilogue or additional scene.

The Last Taxi is then marked complete in your Side Stories log.

    Threshold Researcher Achievement

Completing The Last Taxi is one of three requirements for the Threshold Researcher trophy and achievement. The other two are:

    • Unsupervised Science — Find and complete all 6 Testing Facility Thresholds (one per zone, excluding the Underpass).
    • Crossing the Threshold — A separate side quest tied to Threshold incidents.

All three must be completed to pop Threshold Researcher. The Last Taxi alone is not enough. There is no separate trophy tied specifically to The Last Taxi itself.

    Common Issues and Tips

    • Nothing happens when you enter the Threshold. You skipped the payphone. Go back into the alley, find the ringing phone, and answer Mila’s call before trying the taxis.
    • You chose the wrong taxi. A red light appears and the round stays active. You do not lose progress. Just walk back and try a different cab.
    • The West Incursion Zone taxi seems unreachable. You need Shift. Complete The Incursion Fault in the Parking Garage first. See our Shift ability guide for the full walkthrough.
    • The Underpass and Unknown taxis are not showing up. These zones are gated by story progress. The Underpass opens during Recursions and Iterations. The Unknown is endgame content. See our Recursions and Iterations walkthrough and how to reach the Unknown Zone guide for help.
    • The Park taxi puzzle is confusing. It is the only one that does not use light patterns. Destroy the Mold around the taxi first, then look for loose car parts on the ground. The correct parts snap cleanly onto the vehicle — wrong ones will not fit or look obviously wrong.
    • The quest is not missable. If you finish the main story without completing all seven taxis, they stay in the world and can be finished during free roam.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How many taxis are in The Last Taxi quest in Control Resonant?

There are seven taxis in total — one per zone: Downtown, Central, Evacuation Zone, West Incursion Zone, The Park, Underpass, and Unknown.

How do I start The Last Taxi in Control Resonant?

The quest starts automatically when you interact with any of the seven anomalous taxis. They honk and flash their lights when you get close. Enter any one of them to begin.

Why is nothing happening after I enter the taxi in the Threshold?

You need to find and answer Mila’s ringing payphone in the side alley of the Threshold first. The taxi puzzles will not activate until after that call ends.

Can I do The Last Taxi taxis in any order?

Yes. All seven can be completed in any order, though some zones require specific traversal abilities (Shift and Reach) or story progress before they are accessible.

What happens if I pick the wrong taxi?

A red light signals a wrong answer, and the round stays active. You do not lose progress. Walk back and try a different cab.

Is The Last Taxi missable in Control Resonant?

No. The quest and all seven taxis remain available during free roam after the main story ends. Nothing locks you out of completing it.

What is the reward for completing The Last Taxi?

There is no item or artifact reward. The payoff is completing Mila’s story and closing the Side Story in the quest log. The quest also counts toward the Threshold Researcher trophy/achievement.

What is the Threshold Researcher achievement in Control Resonant?

Threshold Researcher requires completing all three Threshold-related Side Stories: The Last Taxi (7 taxis), Unsupervised Science (6 Testing Facilities), and Crossing the Threshold. All three must be finished for the achievement to unlock.

The Park taxi puzzle is different — how does it work?

The Park uses a Mold and assembly puzzle instead of light-watching. Destroy the grey Mold growths to reveal car parts, then attach the correct parts to the taxi in each of the three rounds. Wrong parts will not fit properly. Destroy any Mold threads tethering to the cab in Round 3 to stop the growth from coming back.

When does the Underpass taxi become available?

The Underpass taxi unlocks during the Recursions and Iterations main quest. You need to progress the story far enough to reach the Deeper Underpass and ride the cable car before the taxi appears.
