Brimstone is one of the most important crafting materials in Crimson Desert. You need it to craft Gold Bars, which are used to craft Platinum Bars — one of the best sources of Silver in the entire game. The problem is that the game gives you almost no guidance on where to find it or how to farm it safely.
This guide covers every method, from the simple crab kills to the advanced vent extraction technique that gives you the highest yield per run.
Before You Start: Get the Gas Mask
The Brimstone Springs area releases constant toxic gas. Without protection, the fumes deal continuous damage and you will burn through food and healing items faster than you can collect Brimstone.
Get the Gas Mask before heading out. The easiest way is to buy the Demenissian Soldiers’ Brimstone Gas Mask from Greta the Tailor at the Laughing Marionette, just outside the City of Demeniss main gate. There is also a free Gas Mask sitting on a wooden log next to a small shack near the entrance of the Deadfire Mountain farming area if you have not picked it up yet.
Where to Find Brimstone
All Brimstone farming in Crimson Desert happens at one location: Brimstone Springs, Deadfire Mountain, north of the City of Demeniss.
On your map, head far north of Demeniss — look above the second “E” in the word “Demeniss” on the map label. The area is filled with gas vents, toxic pools, and rock formations that are not what they seem. An Abyss Cresset fast travel point sits right in the center of the deposit zone, making resets fast and easy.
You can harvest around 16 to 20 Brimstone per visit here. After clearing the area, fast travel away using the Abyss Cresset, then return immediately. Everything respawns and you can loop the same route over and over.
Method 1 — Kill Hexe Brimstoneback Crabs (Easiest)
This is the simplest method and the best starting point if you are new to the area.
The Hexe Brimstoneback Crabs are disguised as rocks around the Brimstone Springs. They are easy to miss. Look for two signs: a slightly green-tinted rock, or a small water spout shooting from the top of a rock. Either one means it is a crab in disguise.
Hit the rock and it will reveal itself as an enemy. These crabs are not strong — a Force Palm strike or a couple of weapon hits will take them down quickly. Each dead crab drops 2 to 5 Brimstone.
One important warning: the crabs explode when they die. The Gas Mask protects you from the gas, but not the explosion blast. Step back before the final hit and you will avoid the burst damage. The fastest way to break through their thick shell is to throw a Force Bomb first — this shatters the armor in one hit and exposes the soft body underneath.
After clearing all the crabs, use the Abyss Cresset in the center of the area to fast travel out and return. All crabs respawn and you can run the loop again immediately.
Method 2 — Nature’s Snare on Gas Vents (Highest Yield)
This is the most efficient method and gives up to 7 Brimstone per vent cluster. It requires more setup but produces far more Brimstone per run than killing crabs alone.
What you need first:
You must have Nature’s Snare unlocked. The easiest way to get it is to visit the ancient ruins at Three Saints Falls — the skill can be learned there for free. Alternatively, you can unlock it by spending an Abyss Artifact if you meet the requirements of Keen Senses Level 3 and Focus Level 2. How to do it:
Look for rocks around the Brimstone Springs that have several jets of gas shooting from the top. These are the vent rocks.
Hold the right trigger to charge a Force Palm, then press the left stick to switch to the Healing version of Force Palm (a small palm leaf icon will appear on the vent when it is successfully sealed). Use this Healing Force Palm to block all vents on the rock except one. With all the other vents sealed, the gas pressure concentrates entirely into the remaining open vent.
Now use Nature’s Snare on the final open vent. Slowly rotate the right stick clockwise to activate the skill. The gas will start pulling into a single point and forming a bright glowing core. Watch for the orange orbs or shiny ball indicator — that is the signal to Unleash. Release the ability to trigger the extraction, which creates a Brimstone Boulder and drops 4 to 7 pieces of Brimstone.
Repeat this process on every vent rock in the area before fast travelling out and back to reset them all.
Note: Pressing Lock instead of Unleash will drop the Brimstone nearby rather than scatter it — useful if you are trying to keep drops controlled in a tight area.
Method 3 — Troll Traders at Scholar Stone
This is a passive alternative that does not require visiting Deadfire Mountain at all.
Trade Thin Hide with the troll scholars at Scholar Stone to build reputation. At 100 reputation, they reward you with a random item that can be Brimstone, Mercury, or Rubber. Since both Brimstone and Mercury are needed for crafting Gold Bars and Platinum Bars, this method can cover two ingredients in one place.
Thin Hide is easy to obtain — hunt animals or buy it from any tannery. This method is slower than direct farming but great for supplementing your stock between runs. Check out our Crimson Desert guide on how to breed animals if you want a steady supply of hides.
Best Farming Loop
Combining both the crab method and the vent method in a single run gives the best results per trip. Here is the most efficient route:
Arrive at Brimstone Springs with the Gas Mask equipped. Clear the Hexe Brimstoneback Crabs first — step back before the killing blow on each one to avoid explosion damage. Move through the area and use the Nature’s Snare vent method on every gas vent rock. Pick up all Brimstone drops. Fast travel away via the Abyss Cresset and return immediately to reset everything. Repeat as many times as needed.
A full loop of all crabs and vent rocks produces far more Brimstone than either method alone. Most players can stock up enough for 5 to 10 Gold Bars in a single optimized run.
What Is Brimstone Used For?
Craft Gold Bars
The main use of Brimstone is crafting Gold Bars at any Witch. You need 3 Brimstone, 3 Mercury, and 10 Silver Ore per bar. Craft Platinum Bars

Brimstone Farming Tips
Always equip the Gas Mask. Never farm Brimstone without it. The constant toxic damage drains your health and eats through your food supply. At 8.84 Silver, the Gas Mask from Greta at the Laughing Marionette is one of the best investments in the game. See our Gas Mask guide for details.
Use the Abyss Cresset to reset the area. The Abyss Cresset at the center of Brimstone Springs resets all enemy and vent spawns when you fast travel away and return. Do not wait around for respawns — just teleport out and back instantly.
Combine crab kills and vent extraction. Doing only one method per run leaves resources on the table. Both sources are in the same area, so clearing crabs first and then working through the vents gives you maximum yield in minimum time.
Batch your crafting. Since you need both Brimstone and Mercury for Gold Bars and Platinum Bars, plan your Brimstone runs to collect enough for multiple bars at once. The Mercury pool is at the Smoking Lands Hearth in north Demeniss — hit both spots in one session to save travel time.
