How to Get the Gas Mask (Brimstone Immunity) in Crimson Desert

Learn how to get the Gas Mask in Crimson Desert. Buy the Demenissian Soldiers' Brimstone Gas Mask from Greta at the Laughing Marionette in Demeniss for 8.84 Silver.

TL;DR

  • The Gas Mask is called the Demenissian Soldiers’ Brimstone Gas Mask
  • Buy it from Greta the Tailor at the Laughing Marionette, located just outside the City of Demeniss main gate — costs 8.84 Silver
  • It grants full immunity to Brimstone gas fumes and sleeping mushroom spore clouds
  • It has a Defense rating of 4 and cannot be upgraded or fitted with Abyss Gears
  • A second free Gas Mask can be found inside a small shack near the entrance to the Deadfire Mountain farming area

The Gas Mask is one of those items you do not think you need until you are standing in a cloud of Brimstone fumes watching your health melt. Brimstone zones deal continuous toxic damage, and without protection, farming them is slow, painful, and expensive in healing items.

The good news is the Gas Mask is cheap, easy to find, and available well before you need it. This guide covers exactly where to get it, what it does, and the other gas masks available in the game.

What Does the Gas Mask Do?

The Demenissian Soldiers’ Brimstone Gas Mask comes with two passive effects that activate simply by equipping it as your headgear.

Brimstone Immunity — You take zero damage from the toxic Brimstone gas fumes found at Deadfire Mountain and around Brimstone farming zones in Demeniss.

Sleeping Mushroom Spore Immunity — You are also immune to sleeping mushroom spore clouds. These are found in caves and certain dungeons across Pywel, and without immunity they knock you out repeatedly.

Both effects are always active while the mask is equipped. No skills or activation needed.

The mask has a Defense rating of 4, which is low. It cannot be upgraded at a Smithy, and it cannot have Abyss Gears socketed into it. Think of it as a utility item rather than combat gear. Equip it when farming Brimstone, then switch back to your main helmet when fighting.

How to Get the Gas Mask — Laughing Marionette (Easiest Method)

The fastest and most reliable way to get the Gas Mask is to buy it from a vendor.

Vendor: Greta the Tailor

Location: The Laughing Marionette, Demeniss

Price: 8.84 Silver Coins

The Laughing Marionette sits just outside the City of Demeniss main gate, between the “M” and “E” in the Demeniss map label. Head inside and look for Greta in the western area near some tents. She sells the Demenissian Soldiers’ Brimstone Gas Mask as part of her regular stock.

8.84 Silver is extremely cheap. There is no reason not to buy this the moment you arrive in Demeniss, even if you are not planning to farm Brimstone yet.

Second Gas Mask — Free Pickup Near Deadfire Mountain

If you head to the Brimstone farming area at Deadfire Mountain in northern Demeniss, there is a free Gas Mask available near the entrance. Look for a small wooden shack in the area. The mask is sitting on a wooden log to the right of the shack. Simply pick it up — no combat required.

This is a good backup if you have not visited Demeniss yet or need a spare. However, since the Laughing Marionette version only costs 8.84 Silver, buying it first is the smarter move so you are protected before you even reach the farming area.

Other Gas Masks in Crimson Desert

There are a few other gas mask variants in the game, though they come from less convenient sources.

Scarlet Blades Gas Mask — This one is a random drop from Bleed Bandits at Fort Perwin, west of Hernand. It also grants immunity to the Crimson Fog — the red mist that drains your health during the Crimson Nightmare boss fight. The drop rate is not guaranteed so you may need to kill several enemies before it appears. If you are struggling with that fight, check our guide on how to beat Crimson Nightmare in Crimson Desert.

Black Bear Gas Mask — This drops randomly from Black Bears. It is not a guaranteed drop and requires farming enemies. For most players, the Laughing Marionette version is far more convenient.

For practical purposes, the Demenissian Soldiers’ Brimstone Gas Mask from Greta is what you want. It is cheap, reliably stocked, and available as soon as you reach Demeniss.

Why the Gas Mask Matters for Brimstone Farming

Brimstone is one of the most important crafting materials in Crimson Desert. You need it to craft Gold Bars, which are in turn used to craft Platinum Bars. A single Platinum Bar sells for 380 Silver Coins, making Brimstone farming one of the most efficient ways to make money in the game. Check our full guide on how to get Platinum Bars in Crimson Desert for the complete crafting chain.

Without the Gas Mask, every second you spend in the Deadfire Mountain Brimstone zone costs you health. You end up burning through food and healing items just to stay alive, which kills your profit margins fast. With the mask equipped, you can farm freely and stay as long as needed.

The Deadfire Mountain area yields around 16 to 20 Brimstone per visit. An Abyss Cresset fast travel point sits right in the center of the deposit area, so you can fast travel away and return immediately to reset the resource nodes. That makes it one of the most efficient farming loops in the game — but only if you are protected.

Brimstone Farming Tips With the Gas Mask

Combine combat and vent farming. Kill the Hexe Brimstoneback Crabs disguised as rocks — they each drop 2 or more Brimstone on death. In between kills, use Nature’s Snare on the gas vents to extract additional Brimstone from them. Doing both in the same run maximizes your yield per visit.

Watch out for crab explosions. The Hexe Brimstoneback Crabs explode when they die. The Gas Mask protects you from the gas, but not the explosion damage. Step back before the killing blow and you will avoid the burst.

Use the Abyss Cresset to reset the area. Fast travel away to a different region and come back. The gas vents and crab spawns reset on return, letting you loop the same route repeatedly.

Equip your regular helmet for fights outside the zone. The Gas Mask has very low defense. Keep it in your inventory and only swap it in when you are actively farming Brimstone. Most enemies in Demeniss are dangerous enough that you want your real headgear equipped for combat.

If you also need to farm Mercury in the same session, the Smoking Lands Hearth pool is located in north Demeniss — not far from the Brimstone zone. Hitting both spots in one trip saves a lot of travel time. Check our Platinum Bar crafting guide for exactly how much Mercury you need per batch.
