Crimson Desert: How to Get a Cauldron
Alchemy in Crimson Desert opens up a whole category of combat tools — elixirs, potions, Palmar Pills, weapon imbues, dyes — that food buffs alone cannot provide. The problem is that Cauldrons are genuinely hard to find at first. They are not marked on the map until you physically stand next to one. Most are tucked indoors. And the game never once points you toward them.
So here is every Cauldron location in Crimson Desert, plus how to get one permanently at your own base.

What Is a Cauldron Used For
Before hunting one down, it helps to know what you are actually getting out of it. A Cauldron is an alchemy crafting station. Interact with one to access your recipe list and brew using collected Reagents (herbs, insects, plants), Catalysts (ores and minerals), and Empty Bottles — which you can buy in bulk from any Provisioner NPC in town.
Things you can make at a Cauldron include combat elixirs like Haiden’s Lesser Elixir (no Spirit consumption for 4 seconds), Astrid’s Lesser Elixir (no stamina consumption for 4 seconds), Palmar Pills (revival items), and a range of dyes to recolor your armor and equipment.
Alchemy buffs and cooking food buffs stack separately in Crimson Desert. This means heading into a boss with both active gives you a meaningful combined advantage. Getting access to a Cauldron early is worth the effort.
For cooking and healing food, see our how to cook best healing food in Crimson Desert guide. And for using those Palmar Pills you’ll brew, our how to get and use Palmar Pills guide covers everything you need to know.
Free Cauldron Location 1: Shadow’s Whisper Cave
This is the easiest Cauldron to reach early in the game — and it also comes with a bonus. The Palmar Pill alchemy recipe is stored here alongside the Cauldron itself.
How to get there: Head north of Hernand City. The cave sits just west of Three Saints Falls. Look for a thin crack in the cliff face — it is easy to miss on a first pass because it genuinely looks like a wall. Squeeze through the crack and you are inside.
Interact with the Cauldron inside to mark it permanently on your map. After that, fast travel nearby and run over whenever you need to craft. The proximity to Hernand makes it a solid repeat-use spot throughout the early and mid game.
Shadow’s Whisper Cave is also where you first meet Sylvia the Witch in Chapter 3. One trip unlocks both the Cauldron and the Witch’s services simultaneously. For more on the Witch system and Abyss Gear crafting, see our Abyss Gears list.
Free Cauldron Location 2: Hernand Town East

There is a second public Cauldron sitting right inside Hernand itself, which most players walk past for hours without noticing.
How to find it: From the Hernand Abyss Nexus fast travel point in the centre of town, head east. Follow the road downward and look for a bend that curves back west. Find the building with a dangling mortar and pestle sign — it is just to the left of the Tannery. Go inside and the Cauldron is on your left.

It is unmarked and unlabeled on the map initially, which is why players miss it. Once you interact with it, it gets pinned. If you want the absolute closest Cauldron to Hernand for quick crafting runs, this one beats the cave.
Free Cauldron Location 3: Pororin Village

Once you unlock Pororin Village — the hidden Shai settlement south of Hernand — you will find multiple large Cauldrons scattered around the village, particularly near the Research Institute.
The catch is access. You cannot enter Pororin until you complete The Unreachable Village quest. This involves getting knocked out three times trying to enter, tracking down Arkin, retrieving the Pororin Relic from a giant walking tree, and trading it back for permanent entry.
If you are already working through the research system in Pororin for the Replenishing Arrows or other items, the Cauldrons here are a convenient crafting spot. Our Unreachable Village quest guide and how to get Replenishing Arrows guide cover that entire unlock process.
How to Buy Your Own Cauldron
Rather than trekking to a public station every time you want to brew something, you can own a Cauldron and install it at home. This becomes available after Chapter 3.

Where to buy it: Timberham Sawmill — find the Furniture Shop run by a merchant named Vincent. Note that the Furniture Shop inside the Howling Hill camp does NOT sell the Cauldron. You must physically travel to Timberham Sawmill.
In Vincent’s shop, select Buy and scroll all the way to the bottom of the list. The Cauldron costs 48 Silver.
How to place it at home:
- Fast travel to Howling Hill camp
- Head southeast of the main camp to the Home building
- Enter the building and open the Installable decoration menu
- Find the Cauldron in your furniture inventory and place it anywhere on the floor
- Exit the menu
Done. You now have a Cauldron accessible from your base at any time without traveling across the map.
One thing worth knowing: Vincent only stocks the Cauldron after you have reached a certain point in Chapter 3. If it does not appear in his shop yet, continue the Greymane story quests and check back.

How to Build an Alchemy Lab at Greymane Camp
There is a second way to get a permanent crafting station — the Alchemy Lab at Greymane Camp. This is built through the Restore the Greymane Camp main story quest rather than purchased.
What you need to build it: Wood from Logging in Hernand, and Ore from Mining in Hernand. Both activities become available early in your camp progression.
Build the Alchemy Lab before anything cosmetic — it feeds your combat kit. The Dye Station (a separate unlock through Naira’s quest chain) is nice to have but secondary. Potions and elixirs from the Alchemy Lab matter far more in the short term.
For help with camp upgrades and managing dispatch missions, our how to upgrade Howling Hill base camp to Level 2 guide walks through the full process. And for the camp funds needed to run it all, check our how to get camp funds guide.
Using a Cauldron: Improvise Mode
Every Cauldron in Crimson Desert has two modes — Recipe mode and Improvise mode.
Recipe mode shows your known formulas with exact ingredient requirements. Improvise mode lets you throw ingredients together freely without needing a recipe scroll. This is not a workaround — it is a deliberate mechanic. New elixirs and dye colors are regularly discovered through improvisation. If you are sitting on a pile of herbs and insects and have not unlocked many recipes yet, the Improvise option is worth experimenting with.

Cauldron Locations at a Glance
Here is a quick reference for every Cauldron location covered in this guide:
Shadow’s Whisper Cave — North of Hernand City, west of Three Saints Falls. Enter through the thin crack in the cliff. Free to use. Also contains the Palmar Pill recipe and Sylvia the Witch.
Hernand Town East — East side of Hernand, left of the Tannery. Look for the mortar and pestle sign. Free to use. Easiest Cauldron to reach from the main city.
Pororin Village — Multiple Cauldrons near the Research Institute. Requires completing The Unreachable Village quest to access.
Howling Hill Home — Your personal Cauldron bought from Vincent at Timberham Sawmill for 48 Silver, placed in the Home building southeast of camp.
Greymane Camp Alchemy Lab — Built through the Restore the Greymane Camp story quest using Wood and Ore from Hernand.
Tips Worth Knowing
Cauldrons only appear on your map after you physically interact with them for the first time. Until then, they are completely invisible on the minimap. Walk up and touch it once and it is marked permanently.
You cannot carry a Cauldron in your inventory. It is a placed or world-fixed station. The only portable option is having one in your Home or Alchemy Lab — which is why getting either of those set up early makes a real difference in how freely you can craft on demand.
Always buy Empty Bottles in bulk from any Provisioner NPC. You cannot brew a single thing without them. Running out mid-crafting session is a frustrating waste of a trip.
