How to Get Pet Armor in Crimson Desert

TL;DR

• Pet armor is purely cosmetic — hats, helmets, outfits, and plate armor for your dogs and cats. No stat bonuses.
• There are two Pet Tailor Shops in Pywel — one in Pororin Village (Milou’s Shop) and one in southwestern Demeniss City.
• The Pororin shop has the biggest selection. To access it, complete the Unreachable Village and Authorized Access faction quests.
• The Demeniss shop only sells the Rescue Puppy Outfit and Puppy Plate Helm. It unlocks around Chapter 8.
• The shops only appear once you’ve tamed your first pet. Raise any dog or cat’s trust to 100 first.
• All pet armor items cost 2.4 silver each.
• Increasing the shop owner’s trust by gifting them their favourite items unlocks more pet armor options over time.
• To equip: open Inventory → Pets tab → select the pet → choose armor from your inventory → press Equip.
• You must keep the armor in your inventory at all times for it to stay on your pet.

One of the best-kept secrets in Crimson Desert is that your dog or cat can wear actual armor. Knight helmets, musketeer outfits, plate armor — the works. A Beagle running around a battlefield in full plate, auto-looting corpses while you fight, is exactly as good as it sounds. The problem is the game tells you none of this. There’s no tutorial, no pointer, and both shops that sell pet armor are locked behind specific quests and story progress.

Step 1 — Tame a Pet First

Before anything else: the pet armor shops don’t appear until you’ve registered your first pet. If you haven’t tamed one yet, the shops won’t show up even if you reach the right location.

Taming works through a trust mechanic. Every stray dog or cat in Pywel starts at zero trust. Get that number to 100 and you can claim the animal as your companion.

How to raise trust:

Petting — Walk up to a dog and hold the interact button. For cats, pick them up first by holding the carry prompt, then pet them while holding. Each pet gives +5 trust. You can pet an animal up to 5 times per in-game day, for a maximum of +25 trust per day from petting alone.

Feeding — Open your inventory and drop food on the ground near the animal. Give it a moment to walk over and eat.

• Dogs — Feed them meat (Fine Meat is best) for +35 trust per feeding.
• Cats — Cats accept bird meat, fish, and milk. Each food gives +10 trust.

You can feed a pet up to 3 times per day. Drop food carefully in populated areas — other animals and even NPCs can grab it before your target does.

Trust resets: The daily petting and feeding limits reset at midnight in-game time. Use the sleep/pass time option at a bed or campfire to advance time quickly without wandering around waiting. If you’re in a hurry, dogs are much faster to tame than cats — Fine Meat plus petting can max out a dog’s trust in a single in-game day.

Once trust hits 100: Interact with the animal and hold the button prompt to select “Take in” or “Register”. The animal joins your Pets tab in the inventory menu. You can hold up to 30 pets total, but only one can be active (summoned) at a time. Unsummoned pets hang out at your Greymane Camp.

Step 2 — Find the Pet Tailor Shops

There are two Pet Tailor Shops in Pywel. Both are run by Shai children and marked on your map with a paw print icon once you’re eligible to access them.

Shop 1 — Milou’s Shop, Pororin Village (Best Selection)

Location: Northeastern side of Pororin Village (also known as Florindale or Shai Village), in the Grace Estate area just north of the main village. The shop is toward the northern end of the estate. Look for the building with three Shai children inside.

Map reference: Pororin Forest in Hernand, southeast of Howling Hill near the Demeniss border.

This is the primary pet armor shop in the game with the largest selection. Milou sells outfits, helmets, and plate armor for both dogs and cats. You need to unlock the village before you can access it.

How to unlock Pororin Village — The Unreachable Village Quest:

Pororin Village is completely locked until you complete a specific questline. Attempting to enter the forest early results in a Shai child shooting you with a sleep dart and dragging you out — every single time.

Here’s how to unlock it:

Step 1 — Get knocked out three times. Approach the entrance to Pororin Forest and try to enter. A Shai will knock you unconscious and dump you outside. Go back. Get knocked out again. A third time. Yes, really. After the third attempt, a Shai named Arkin will call to you from a nearby tree — this triggers The Unreachable Village quest.

Step 2 — Meet Arkin at Trembling Gorge. After the initial meeting, Arkin moves to a new location — a lower cliff in Trembling Gorge, further east, just across the Demeniss border. Head there to find her. Stay away from Pororin on your way over to avoid being knocked out again mid-journey.

Step 3 — Complete the Authorized Access quest. Arkin tasks you with retrieving the Relic of Pororin from a “stubborn oaf” who is “really tall” — this is a giant sentient walking tree called Offin (an Ent). The quest marker can be misleading since Offin moves around. Check the area carefully. Once you have the Relic, return it to Arkin.

Step 4 — Enter the village. Completing both quests grants you permanent access to Pororin Village. Head to the Grace Estate in the northeast of the village and find Milou’s Shop. Talk to the Shai children inside to open the shop menu and browse the full selection.

Shop 2 — Demeniss City Pet Tailor Shop (Limited Stock)

Location: Southwestern part of Demeniss City, southwest of Demeniss Castle. Look for the paw print icon on your map.

Unlocks: Around Chapter 8 of the main quest, when you gain full access to the City of Demeniss.

Important note: If you’re early in the game, the soldiers in Demeniss City will still be hostile toward you, making exploration difficult. Wait until Demeniss is properly accessible before visiting this shop.

What this shop sells:

• Rescue Puppy Outfit
• Puppy Plate Helm

That’s it — this shop has a much more limited selection compared to Milou’s in Pororin. It’s worth visiting once you’re in Demeniss, but the Pororin shop is where you’ll find the real variety.

Step 3 — How to Increase Shop Trust for More Armor

Both Pet Tailor Shops have a trust system with you as a customer. As you interact with the merchants, buy items from them, and gift them their favorite things, your trust with them increases. Higher trust unlocks additional pet armor options that aren’t available from the start.

To raise trust with shop owners: Gift them items they like. This works the same way as the general NPC trust system across Pywel — find out what the shopkeeper prefers and keep bringing it to them over multiple visits. The more you invest in the relationship, the more exclusive cosmetics open up for purchase.

Step 4 — How to Equip Pet Armor

Once you’ve bought pet armor, it sits in your regular inventory until you manually put it on your pet. Here’s exactly how:

1. Open your Inventory.
2. Navigate to the Pets tab.
3. Find and select the pet you want to dress up from the list on the left.
4. Summon that pet — the armor swap only works on your actively summoned companion.
5. Select the pet armor from your inventory on the right side.
6. Press Equip to put it on.

Each pet can wear one head piece (helmet or hat) and one body piece (outfit or armor) at the same time.

Changing or removing armor: The same steps apply for swapping. Go to the Pets tab, select the active pet, then select a different armor piece to swap it out. Select the currently equipped piece and choose Unequip to remove it.

Critical storage tip: Pet armor must stay in your inventory for it to remain on your pet at all times. The armor doesn’t transfer to a separate pet equipment slot — it’s pulled directly from your bag. If you have multiple outfits you’re not currently using, store them in the chest at your Greymane Camp to save inventory space. Only keep the currently equipped set in your bag.

What Does Pet Armor Actually Do?

Pet armor in Crimson Desert is purely cosmetic. It has zero impact on stats, combat, or gameplay. Your pets do not fight enemies — they run around the battlefield looting corpses after you’ve cleared them, and that behavior is completely unaffected by what they’re wearing.

That said, the cosmetic value is real. A dog in full plate helmet and armor running behind you through a siege battle is genuinely one of the best things in the game. The musketeer outfit on a small cat is equally ridiculous in the best way. Pearl Abyss confirmed there are no microtransactions or pay-to-win elements in Crimson Desert, so all pet cosmetics are earned purely through gameplay.

Quick Tips for Getting Pet Armor Fast

Tame a dog first, not a cat. Dogs are dramatically faster to max trust — Fine Meat gives +35 trust per feeding, and combined with daily petting you can hit 100 in a single in-game day. Cats cap at +10 per feeding and take multiple days minimum. If you just want to unlock the shops quickly, grab a dog.

Use sleep to reset daily limits. Petting and feeding caps reset at midnight in-game. Rest at a bed or camp to skip ahead without wasting real time.

Visit Pororin early. The Unreachable Village questline isn’t gated behind main story progress — it’s a faction quest you can start exploring as soon as you reach Hernand. The sooner you get knocked out three times and trigger the quest, the sooner you have access to the full pet armor shop.

Don’t drop food near crowds. If you’re trying to feed a specific animal in a village, drop the food when no other animals or NPCs are nearby. Other creatures will steal the food otherwise, wasting your feeding slot for the day.

Keep spare armor in camp storage. Since armor lives in your inventory, carrying multiple sets eats into your bag space fast. Store everything you’re not actively using in the camp chest. See our guide on how to increase inventory space if you’re running low.

Check back at Milou’s regularly. Trust-unlocked items may appear over time with repeated visits and gifting. The initial shop stock is just the starting point.

Pets as Companions — What They Actually Do

Beyond looking great in armor, pets serve a genuine gameplay function: automatic looting. Your summoned pet runs across the battlefield after fights and picks up items from enemy corpses automatically. This saves you from having to manually loot every single enemy you kill.

The catch is that pets have no loot filter — they grab everything indiscriminately, including low-value junk. This makes the inventory space point even more important. If your bag fills up with trash your pet picked up, you’ll want extra slots available.

Pets also:

• Follow you through all terrain and environments
• Rest at your Greymane Camp when unsummoned
• Can be swapped out anytime from the Pets tab
• Have their own summoning toggle so you can call them and dismiss them freely

You can have up to 30 pets registered, collecting both dogs and cats across all of Pywel’s regions. Different breeds have different looks, and some — like the Husky in Pailune — only become available once you’ve progressed further into the story.
