The Red Needle Sword is one of the best one-handed weapons you can find in Crimson Desert. It is a red-colored katana-style blade that deals strong damage and comes with built-in Critical Rate Lv 2. No quest points you to it. No boss guards it. Most players walk right past it without ever knowing it was there.

Here is exactly how to get it.

What Is the Red Needle Sword?

The Red Needle is a unique one-handed weapon. It is forged from an unknown material and described in-game as lighter than a standard sword, though difficult to handle without proper swordsmanship skills.

What makes it worth the trip is the stat package. At max level it offers Attack 30 and Critical Rate Lv 2. It also comes with three Abyss Gear slots, which means you can push it further with the right upgrades. Players who enjoy critical rate builds will find this weapon fits perfectly into their setup.

If you have seen Rivers of Blood from Elden Ring, the Red Needle has a similar visual vibe. It even supports the Bleed Abyss Gear if you want to lean into that fantasy.

Red Needle Sword Location: Sanctum of Oblation

The Red Needle Sword is found inside the Sanctum of Oblation, located in the Delesyia region on a small island on the far eastern edge of the world map.

This is not a beginner-friendly area. Delesyia sits on the far right side of the map, and if you are in the early chapters, the guards in Demeniss will attack you on sight when you pass through. Flying enemies also patrol parts of the approach. You can ride past most of them on horseback if you move quickly and do not stop to engage. Make sure your horse is well fed before heading out — it is a long ride.

If you have already unlocked fast travel in this part of the map, head to the Blue Thicket Abyss Nexus on the northwestern edge of the small island east of Delesyia. From there, look east and you will spot the Sanctum of Oblation up on the mountain. For help getting around the map faster, check out our guide on how to fast travel in Crimson Desert.

How to Get the Red Needle Sword Step by Step

There is no boss to defeat here. The only thing standing between you and the sword is a small lantern puzzle. Follow these steps.

Step 1 — Reach the Sanctum of Oblation

Head east from the Blue Thicket Abyss Nexus toward the mountain. When you arrive, you will see the main entrance. Do not go through it. Instead, turn right and hug the outer wall of the Sanctum until you find an alternate entrance. It is marked by two blue lanterns on either side. Go through there.

Step 2 — Enter and head inside

Once inside the outer yard, turn left through the doorway. You will reach a fork in the path. You will see two options — one heading right, one going straight ahead.

Step 3 — Take the path straight ahead first

Go straight. At the end of the corridor you will see a broken wall. Through the gap, you can spot a treasure chest sitting behind a locked gate. You can see it but you cannot open it yet.

Step 4 — Light the lantern

Right next to the broken wall is an unlit stone lantern. Interact with it to light it. This is the key step. Lighting the lantern triggers the mechanism that retracts the spikes and opens the locked gate. You will notice the spikes pull back through the gap in the wall when it works.

Step 5 — Backtrack to the fork and take the other path

Head back the way you came to the fork you passed earlier. This time take the other path. Follow the corridor and turn right when it opens up. Look for a doorway surrounded by colorful flower vines and a blue lantern. That is your destination.

Step 6 — Open the chest

Go through the doorway and open the treasure chest inside. You will receive the Red Needle Sword and a Palmar Pill. The sword goes straight into your inventory and can be equipped immediately from your equipment menu.

That is it. The whole run takes just a few minutes once you know the route.

Red Needle Sword Stats

Here is a quick breakdown of what the Red Needle Sword gives you:

  • Base Attack: 19 (Attack 30 at max level)
  • Critical Rate: Lv 2
  • Abyss Gear Slots: 3
  • Weapon Type: One-handed sword

The Critical Rate stat is what makes this weapon shine. Critical hits in Crimson Desert can double your attack damage on each hit. Pair that with the right Abyss Gears and accessories and you have a sword that consistently punishes enemies in fast, aggressive combat. For more on how to push your attack power, see our guide on how to increase your attack level.

Best Abyss Gears for the Red Needle Sword

You have three slots to fill. Here are the top options depending on your build:

Insight I — The strongest pairing for most players. It stacks directly on top of the Red Needle’s existing Critical Rate and amplifies it further. If you want a consistent crit-focused build, this is your pick.

Swift I — Increases attack speed. This makes your strikes faster and smoother, which works well in crowd control situations where landing multiple hits quickly matters more than individual hit power.

Destruction I — Pushes raw base damage higher. More situational than the other two, but useful if your current build is already crit-heavy and you need more flat damage output.

For most players, Insight I is the right call. It amplifies what the Red Needle does best. Check out our Abyss Gears list for a full breakdown of all available gear options.

Tips Before You Go

A few things worth knowing before you make the trip:

Clear the enemies first if you can. The Sanctum may have Antumbra enemies inside. They can interrupt your puzzle interactions. If you have enough combat ability to handle them, clear them before touching the lantern. If you are under-leveled, move quickly and try to skip them.

Early run is possible. You can grab the Red Needle Sword before you are meant to be in Delesyia. It requires a fast ride through hostile territory and knowing exactly where to go. If you follow this guide, you can grab it as an early pickup and carry it through a large chunk of the mid-game.

The Red Needle Katana is also here. There is a second weapon — the Red Needle Katana — available in the same Sanctum. After lighting the lantern and looping back, a previously locked door near the entrance will now be open. The katana is in the chest behind that door. Worth grabbing both in the same visit.

Refine it at a Blacksmith. The Red Needle Sword can be upgraded through Refinement at any Blacksmith. Each refinement pass is shown by golden lines on the item image. For a full walkthrough of how upgrades work, see our guide on how to reinforce equipment in Crimson Desert.
